          Absolutely fabulous
After much research I booked Tanjung Bulat Camp due to its isolation and its reviews listing wildlife sightings and its reasonable prices and I was 100% delighted with my decision. I stayed for 5 nights and will certainly be returning for 7 next year! Email communication with Afiq prior to arrival was excellent with all my questions answered rapidly and helpfully. The journey to the camp by minibus, boat, hike and boat went very smoothly and the location of the camp itself is totally idyllic on the river and jungle edge. Our room was large and the bed was comfortable. As a corner room we had a cross breeze from the windows and we appreciated the fan in the evening and made use of the power while it was on. Flushing western toilets were a real bonus and it was fun hand washing at the sinks out in the open. The bucket shower was very welcome at the end of the day. The chef managed some delicious vegetarian options for my son and myself which were really appreciated, as was the all day complimentary tea, coffee and water. Jai was our absolutely tireless and enthusiastic guide and we thoroughly enjoyed every trip that we did with him. His knowledge seemed endless and his ability to spot wildlife for us was incredible. And the wildlife……..::we were so so lucky! Or maybe it is always that good? We had a daily visit to the fruiting tree by the camp of an Orang Utan. Two visits to the camp by a gibbon. Evening visits by a group of Malay civet. Daily monitor lizards walking by. Hornbills regularly flying overhead and also roosting on the night walk. A slow loris and a colugo on the same night walk. Proboscis monkeys, silver langur with orange babies, maroon/red langur, crocodile, kingfishers, eagles, owls, heron, datter, bats, pig tail and long tail macaques, snakes, and many other birds and insects…….everything that we’d hoped for and more! And never any other boats or tourists on our side spur of the main Kinabatangan river and no other buildings either. Perfect! I would 100% recommend Tanjung Bulat Camp for wildlife enthusiasts that don’t need WiFi or 24/7 power or en suite bathrooms or hot showers, but enjoy good food and excellent service and knowledgeable guiding and the company of similar minded people!

          Beautiful location
The staff from start to finish are helpful informative and friendly. The location is magnificent with no neighbours, the cruises both morning afternoon and evening are almost guaranteed to allow you to see wildlife. The food is adequate and tasty and there is a plentiful supply of tea coffee and water all day. Pick up and drop off can be arranged to.most places around Sandakan and Sepilok. There is electricity from a generator from 6 to 10pm. There is no Internet. The rooms are very basic with a fan and small light only. Beds are comfortable enough but the rooms are warm. Toilets are in a separate block, there are no showers just a tap and bucket to rinse yourself.

          An authentic jungle trip
Fantastic experience getting back to basics. Jay & his team led excellent trips up & down the river . We saw lots of birds & animals & on the last morning an orangutan was in a tree in camp . The electrics go off at 10pm so be prepared with a torch as it’s pitch black .

          Must do!
This is a must do in Borneo. It’s 1.5 hours in a van from Sandakan (lunch stop en route at your expense in small town). Pick up was seamless at our Air Bnb. On arrival at the jungle drop off you get in a boat across the river. Then a 700m walk (so many mozzies so layer/spray). Another boat to the accommodation. It’s basic but it’s the jungle. Meals were great - meat, veg and rice. Clean drinking water. No wifi. I was eaten alive on the hammocks so wear thick clothing/socks or use your blanket. Jai the guide is so cool. Lots of knowledge and generous with his binoculars. We saw orangutan right in our accommodation. Proboscis money’s, gibbons, crocs, lots of birds, huge lizards. So awesome for my 13 year old son. Thanks Jai and team. If you can afford to take some cash for the team please do. They are paid Malaysian wage to do a huge job.

          Highly Recommend!
I highly recommend this tour. It was a wonderful experience being fully immersed in the jungle. The lodge is basic but its all about the location. Guides were also so kind and we even saw a wild orangutan.

Recommend but could be even better
Stunning setting with beautiful views on the river cruises. Great to see the proliferation of wildlife along the Oxbow lake, with the night cruise surpassing expectations! Helpful descriptions from Jai during the cruises - thank you The accommodation was great considering where it is. Chilling out in hammocks during the day was nice. Cold water washing was very refreshing! The food was good and the dining area very pleasant Disappointed with the lack of wildlife on the Kinabatangan River proper (although it was beautiful) The night walk felt very rushed and functional rather than a journey of discovery The visit could also have been even better with more content between the various cruises / walks It might cover more on the behavioural ecology of the animals. Maybe on the flora (the guides had very little to say on this). And perhaps on the sustainability angle and what’s going on with plantations in the surrounding area. It would be great to know more and discuss more with knowledgable people. It was also rather odd that on the third day we did not get to go on the morning cruise but instead had to pack up and be ready for a prompt departure an hour after the cruise returned. It did feel like missing out…

          Fantastic wildlife viewing experience
An overall excellent wildlife viewing experience. We saw orangutans, probiscus monkeys, many other monkey species, hornbills, monitor lizards, civet cats, eagles, owls and crocodiles. Accommodation was comfortable will as twin shared rooms (which suited us as a couple). There were shaded hammocks to chill in during the peak heat of the day. Food was very tasty and all staff super friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good wildlife experience in Borneo!

          Fantastic adventure
This was an exceptional experience! We stayed for one night in the cabins and the rooms were very functional but minimalistic. The food was fantastic and jungle outings were exceptional. We were disappointed to not see any orangutans but we saw plenary of proboscis monkeys, birds, and other wildlife. Definitely not for those who don’t love the outdoors or being a little bit uncomfortable but if you’ve got the adventure bone this is for you! All of the guides were exceptional!

          ☹️☹️☹️☹️
I organized for 2 nights 3 days but I left after one night. Was not my expectations. Not valued for money. Very expensive for what we got. The team was very nice..

          Amazing Jungle Experience
We booked this stay based on TripAdvisor reviews and it was everything people had said...and more. The guide Jai was amazing and from day 1 was friendly, warm and very welcoming. The captain of the boats was extremely skilled at knowing where and how to take us for animal spotting and wow, could he ever drive that boat like a skilled professional! The food was tasty rice, chicken, pumpkin, vegetables, and tea. The accommodations were basic but comfortable and provided us more than expected while in the middle of the Borneo jungle. They had flush toilets which was not expected and a nice simple luxury, while the showers were bucket showers and a lot of fun to experience. At one point it poured rain and Jai showed us all how to take a shower under the roof runoff which was an absolute highlight of our stay - our kids loved it! We were lucky enough to spot an orangutan on day 1, which set the stage for observing some amazing wildlife throughout our stay. Jai showed us how to spot nearly all the monkey species, bugs, birds, spiders, and any other critters in the area. The animals were our primary reason for traveling to the camp, and we definitely got our fill - awesome is all we can say! On the last day, Jai took our son out for an additional night hike where they were lucky enough to spot a pangolin. My son and the others were super excited and we were so thankful that Jai was willing to take them out for a final walk. Overall, this is a special place in the world and we are so happy we experienced this opportunity. A very big thank you to the entire team at the camp for a wonderful jungle experience. We will talk about our stay for many years and we hope to see you again! Highly recommend this amazing place!

          Hammocks in the jungle!
Had a great one night stay with friends and family, where we saw various types of monkeys high in the trees, a civet and monitor lizard underneath the dining room floorboards, a crocodile, many birds and-highlight, a baby python! Jai and the team were welcoming and friendly, and dinner was delicious. We loved the hammocks in the relaxation room and we loved the tranquility of he camp. The most authentic of experiences.

          Cant recommend enough
What a great experience. Was everything me and my family hoped for. Basic and comfortable accomodation, good food and wildlife. Jai and the team made us feel comfortable all the way, was great with the kids and we learned a lot from them. The place was far away from other camps like this and just when we was sailing in the tributary river a small pack of proboscis monkeys jumped in the trees over our boats. This is an experience well never forget and made our vacation too Malaysia one of the better experiences well ever had travelling. Thank you Jai and the rest of the kind team for an memorable experience Roger and fam

Amazing experience, the best tour we did!
This experience was by far the best tour we did in Borneo, the staff were so lovely, we were picked up exactly on time and the location was beautiful and unique, we had lovely food and saw so many animals, including a pangolin! The staff showed genuine interest in the animals and giving great service. The whole experience was fantastic if you want to go on a tour this is the one to book.

          Really fun experience!!
Really enjoyed this trip. Saw so many different types of monkey and many different birds on boat trips and other animals like snakes on the night walk. It was really cool, the guides were very knowledgable and looked after us well. Accommodation was pretty good too and the meals really good.

          Perfect trip
Amazing place with amazing guides. I had the best of times even though we did not spot any orang utans or elephants. Accomodation is clean and has everything that is necessary. Food is great as well and vegetarian options was not an issue at all.

Loved all of it! It's a simple, honest, and authentic experience, and the staff and guides were great! They were very acommodating and allowed us to postpone our tour by 2 days with short notice due to some health problems beforehand. The manager Afiq even offered his room to us as there weren't any other free rooms left.
