About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jbq220 contributionsMust do!This is a must do in Borneo. It’s 1.5 hours in a van from Sandakan (lunch stop en route at your expense in small town). Pick up was seamless at our Air Bnb. On arrival at the jungle drop off you get in a boat across the river. Then a 700m walk (so many mozzies so layer/spray). Another boat to the accommodation. It’s basic but it’s the jungle. Meals were great - meat, veg and rice. Clean drinking water. No wifi. I was eaten alive on the hammocks so wear thick clothing/socks or use your blanket. Jai the guide is so cool. Lots of knowledge and generous with his binoculars. We saw orangutan right in our accommodation. Proboscis money’s, gibbons, crocs, lots of birds, huge lizards. So awesome for my 13 year old son. Thanks Jai and team. If you can afford to take some cash for the team please do. They are paid Malaysian wage to do a huge job.Written October 11, 2024
- Explore080906589410 contributionsRecommend but could be even betterStunning setting with beautiful views on the river cruises. Great to see the proliferation of wildlife along the Oxbow lake, with the night cruise surpassing expectations! Helpful descriptions from Jai during the cruises - thank you The accommodation was great considering where it is. Chilling out in hammocks during the day was nice. Cold water washing was very refreshing! The food was good and the dining area very pleasant Disappointed with the lack of wildlife on the Kinabatangan River proper (although it was beautiful) The night walk felt very rushed and functional rather than a journey of discovery The visit could also have been even better with more content between the various cruises / walks It might cover more on the behavioural ecology of the animals. Maybe on the flora (the guides had very little to say on this). And perhaps on the sustainability angle and what’s going on with plantations in the surrounding area. It would be great to know more and discuss more with knowledgable people. It was also rather odd that on the third day we did not get to go on the morning cruise but instead had to pack up and be ready for a prompt departure an hour after the cruise returned. It did feel like missing out…Written September 9, 2024
- markcomerford0 contributionsFantastic wildlife viewing experienceAn overall excellent wildlife viewing experience. We saw orangutans, probiscus monkeys, many other monkey species, hornbills, monitor lizards, civet cats, eagles, owls and crocodiles. Accommodation was comfortable will as twin shared rooms (which suited us as a couple). There were shaded hammocks to chill in during the peak heat of the day. Food was very tasty and all staff super friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good wildlife experience in Borneo!Written August 18, 2024
- Meander571544293900 contributionsFantastic adventureThis was an exceptional experience! We stayed for one night in the cabins and the rooms were very functional but minimalistic. The food was fantastic and jungle outings were exceptional. We were disappointed to not see any orangutans but we saw plenary of proboscis monkeys, birds, and other wildlife. Definitely not for those who don’t love the outdoors or being a little bit uncomfortable but if you’ve got the adventure bone this is for you! All of the guides were exceptional!Written August 11, 2024
- R1267PVsandrab0 contributions☹️☹️☹️☹️I organized for 2 nights 3 days but I left after one night. Was not my expectations. Not valued for money. Very expensive for what we got. The team was very nice..Written July 29, 2024
- bryanandrebeccaj0 contributionsAmazing Jungle ExperienceWe booked this stay based on TripAdvisor reviews and it was everything people had said...and more. The guide Jai was amazing and from day 1 was friendly, warm and very welcoming. The captain of the boats was extremely skilled at knowing where and how to take us for animal spotting and wow, could he ever drive that boat like a skilled professional! The food was tasty rice, chicken, pumpkin, vegetables, and tea. The accommodations were basic but comfortable and provided us more than expected while in the middle of the Borneo jungle. They had flush toilets which was not expected and a nice simple luxury, while the showers were bucket showers and a lot of fun to experience. At one point it poured rain and Jai showed us all how to take a shower under the roof runoff which was an absolute highlight of our stay - our kids loved it! We were lucky enough to spot an orangutan on day 1, which set the stage for observing some amazing wildlife throughout our stay. Jai showed us how to spot nearly all the monkey species, bugs, birds, spiders, and any other critters in the area. The animals were our primary reason for traveling to the camp, and we definitely got our fill - awesome is all we can say! On the last day, Jai took our son out for an additional night hike where they were lucky enough to spot a pangolin. My son and the others were super excited and we were so thankful that Jai was willing to take them out for a final walk. Overall, this is a special place in the world and we are so happy we experienced this opportunity. A very big thank you to the entire team at the camp for a wonderful jungle experience. We will talk about our stay for many years and we hope to see you again! Highly recommend this amazing place!Written July 19, 2024
- gwynnethz0 contributionsHammocks in the jungle!Had a great one night stay with friends and family, where we saw various types of monkeys high in the trees, a civet and monitor lizard underneath the dining room floorboards, a crocodile, many birds and-highlight, a baby python! Jai and the team were welcoming and friendly, and dinner was delicious. We loved the hammocks in the relaxation room and we loved the tranquility of he camp. The most authentic of experiences.Written July 15, 2024
- Hoppybudgie0 contributionsCant recommend enoughWhat a great experience. Was everything me and my family hoped for. Basic and comfortable accomodation, good food and wildlife. Jai and the team made us feel comfortable all the way, was great with the kids and we learned a lot from them. The place was far away from other camps like this and just when we was sailing in the tributary river a small pack of proboscis monkeys jumped in the trees over our boats. This is an experience well never forget and made our vacation too Malaysia one of the better experiences well ever had travelling. Thank you Jai and the rest of the kind team for an memorable experience Roger and famWritten July 11, 2024
- E2444GTrobertw0 contributionsPerfect tripAmazing place with amazing guides. I had the best of times even though we did not spot any orang utans or elephants. Accomodation is clean and has everything that is necessary. Food is great as well and vegetarian options was not an issue at all.Written June 28, 2024
- Dream001383941980 contributionsJungle adventure at its best!Jay and the whole team welcomed us very friendly into our jungle adventure. We spent 3 nights at their jungle base camp and were overwhelmed by the nature, the simple life and the variety of species, which Jay spotted for us & gave information about them. The camp itself is clean & simple, exactly what you want to experience, when you look for a jungle adventure. You see the nature from their neirest and untouchest site with the best guides, which have a look that you don't take the wrong steps. We loved our time - Big thanks to the team!Written June 24, 2024
- 24stua0 contributionsMemorable jungle experience with fantastic teamThis is an experience I’ll remember forever. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the team could not have been more helpful. Very comfortable rooms (you’re in the jungle!), tasty and plentiful food, knowledgeable and passionate guides, a good balance of activities and downtime, all set in an incredible location. The wildlife has to be seen to be believed. We saw crocodiles and gibbons (but they were too quick for me!) plus an abundance of birds and primates. I went with some trepidation and was hooked from the moment we stepped on the boat to get to camp. It was well worth carrying my big lens all the way but a tip for future, take your camera for the night cruise, the close-up with the birds was amazing (but I didn’t take my camera!) Thanks to Afiq and Jay and the whole team!Written June 22, 2024
- calliebrownn0 contributionsGreat Place to See AnimalsMy boyfriend and I did a 4D3N trip at Tanjung Bulat Jungle camp over a year ago and still talk frequently about it to this day. We are very passionate about wildlife, especially in their natural habitat, and this is the absolute perfect place to do so. We felt the guides, especially our main guide Jai, shared our same passion for the animals and environmentalism. We were lucky enough to spot two orangutan mothers with their babies within 50 yards of each other, as well as a pregnant orangutan building her nest on another night. Jai and the other guides were jumping around the boat with excitement with us, which made the trip feel even more special. Jai was extremely valuable as a guide, and was able to spot, identify, and share facts about many animals throughout our stay. We were lucky enough to see langurs, hornbills, Proboscis monkeys, kingfishers, orangutans, crocodiles, civets, macaques, flying foxes, frogs, and more. We found ourselves staying up late and chatting with him on several occasions, and had many conversations about animals, his time working at the camp, and life in general. There was truly no one else there but this group, it feels very secluded and real. We did not see any other boats full of tourists or anything similar. The accommodations are exactly as they appear in the photos- basic but comfortable and exactly what was needed. There is several hours of electricity provided to charge phones, cameras, etc. The food was delicious, and a great look into Malay cuisine and culture. The only thing I would advise it to bring nets and mosquito spray for hikes/walks- you will need it!Written June 14, 2024
- michaeloL6332LV0 contributionsFantastic tripWe had a great time, well organized, pick up from Sepilok and brought back to Sandakan. We spend 2 nights and saw the wildlife also in and very close to the camp. Great tour guide, great staff, great trip! Michael & MariekeWritten May 13, 2024
- 658noreenm0 contributionsExcellent stayExcellent stay in a very basic camp. Do not expect any luxuries. The wildlife spotting was amazing to see in their natural habitat. River cruises were excellent and orangutans came right into the camp twice during our stay. Guide Jai was excellent very enthusiastic about all the sightings and knowledgeable about all the wildlife. Take some mosquito spray there are lots.Written May 7, 2024
- isabellekH1375MY0 contributionsUnique jungle experienceAmazing wildlife experience in the middle of the jungle. We got to see lots of crocodiles, monkeys and some orang utans! The main tour guide was very nice and knew a lot about the environment. We staff wasn’t very interactive which surprised us a little. We missed nets in the room as protection during, if you have, bring your own. And don’t forget repellent. There’s no mobile service, so book anything else beforehand.Written May 1, 2024

On the positive side, the location was unique and the main ranger was very knowledgeable about the wildlife. We also really enjoyed the river cruises at dawn and dusk. On the more negative side , the facilities were very basic, which to be fair, we knew about beforehand. However, I strongly believe that there are a lot of very simple things that could be done to improve the experience. I would summarize as unique but rough.

An amazing tour. Jai our tour guide and the team was great and very knowledgeable. You get picked up and dropped off at your hotel/airport which was great. The food was lovely as well. The activites which included boat trips and walking tours were great and seen lots of wildlife. Would highly recommend.

I highly recommend this tour. It was a wonderful experience being fully immersed in the jungle. The lodge is basic but its all about the location. Guides were also so kind and we even saw a wild orangutan.

Really enjoyed this trip. Saw so many different types of monkey and many different birds on boat trips and other animals like snakes on the night walk. It was really cool, the guides were very knowledgable and looked after us well. Accommodation was pretty good too and the meals really good.
