About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- XandoS0 contributionsGood sites, but bad experience! The museums were incredible, definitely worth a visit. However, our tour guide/driver let the experience down. Firstly, as soon as we entered Greece, he was not able to navigate and got lost several times. Secondly, he was not a "guide" and did not tell us any information about the sites. The driver was unprofessional and left us feeling uncomfortable in the car several times.Written October 17, 2024
- TravelsAndAdventures0 contributionsThe Balkans: One Of The Best Tours I've Ever Had!As a group of six, we arranged a private tour of the Balkans in June 2024 with Daniel Medaroski and had a fantastic time. We began in Albania and swung through North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro. Daniel was a marvelous, knowledgeable, adaptable, reliable, and friendly guide. The tour he assembled and the sights and stops met all our goals completely. I can't praise him enough for the wonderful job he did. And based on that, if we travel to that area again, we'll be sure to ask for him directly.Written July 9, 2024
- CdnGirlTravelsLots0 contributionsImmerse yourself in the Balkans!Six of us Canadians traveled to the Balkans in June 2024 on a 14-day trip through Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro with Experience Balkan (via Tour Local's website). We created a customized itinerary based on other itineraries we had seen online. Our trip started and ended in Tirana, Albania; we spent 6 nights in Albania, circumnavigating the country (3x Tirana, 1x Vlore, 1x Gjirokaster, 1x Pogradec); 4 nights in Macedonia (2x Ohrid, 2x Skopje); one night in Pristina, Kosovo (would not recommend staying overnight here as there is not much to do in the evening; recommend continuing on to Prizren, Kosovo for the night, after sightseeing in Pristina); and 3 nights in Montenegro (2x Budva, 1x Podgorica), before returning to Tirana for the final night. Our driver/guide, Daniel Medaroski, made our trip (which was already excellent) outstanding. He was a wonderful host, a very knowledgeable guide on many topics (both current and historical), an excellent driver and an all-around nice person to spend time with. In most tours, the quality of the guide is the "icing on the cake" and Daniel was certainly that "icing" for us! In fact, based on this trip, we are thinking about returning to the Balkans in the near future, to see more with Daniel and the Experience Balkan team. I highly recommend working with Experience Balkan. Based on our experience, you can expect an immersive adventure in the region. This is an off-the-beaten-path part of the world to visit for many of us, but it is so worth it! Thank you, Daniel and the Experience Balkan team, for helping us maximize our vacation time in the Balkans!Written July 2, 2024
- eliset0560 contributionsA very interesting excursion to Bitola and OhridOur guide was really excellent and professional, she explained us all the sights in detail and about the history and culture of the Macedonian people. She also gave us enough time in museums and churches and was available for further questions. She even guided us until 7 pm. A very interesting excursion to beautiful Ohrid which I can recommend!Written June 2, 2024
- eliset0560 contributionsExcursion to Matka Canyon and Skopje from PristinaThe whole excursion was a disaster. I have been in 84 countries and I have never seen a worse guide. He was not prepared at all, he was 20 minutes late, his GSM was not charged for the whole excursion (he had to ask us to use our wifi for the GPS), he spent about 3 hours to find the first sight Matka Canyon because he drove first to a totally different direction for one hour and then back (he kept on asking people passing by the road) and even then he had no idea where the place was. He asked us to pay for his ticket even though the excursion was super expensive etc. Only in Skopje he tried to catch up, however we were too late for entering to the fortress (one of the sights in our program) because of his delays. In summary, better to avoid Experience Balkan travel agency and their miserable guides!Written June 2, 2024
- peterdeirdreben0 contributionsHighly recommended!!!We (a group of five friends) booked a two day tour - Ohrid on one day - Matka Canyon on the other, returning to Skopje each night. The tours were excellent - Daniel was a great tour guide with an in depth knowledge of the places we saw. He was also flexible and added some things that were not on the schedule (visiting the Roman aqueduct outside Skopje) He was also very personable and quickly struck up a good rapport with our group. The schedule was busy without being overly hectic. Thanks also to our great driver, DraganWritten May 19, 2024
- JessW370 contributionsBest day! This tour was amazing. We changed our itinerary slightly as we decided to stay in Pristina the night before the tour, so our guide met us at the hotel instead. Avi was so knowledgeable about the city and we saw so much on the walking tour, it is one of the most interesting cities we've ever visited! The itinerary was perfectly planned and the ideal pace. I highly recommend this tour and a visit to Kosovo. It's an amazing place with the kindest people!Written February 16, 2024
- JessW370 contributionsAmazing Day!A fantastic experience and highly recommended. Our guide, Petrit, picked us up and made the day very comfortable and enjoyable. He is very knowledgeable about each place. It was a very long day but that's because Tirana is very far from Skopje! However, it was worth it to get to Albania. The itinerary was perfect, just enough time in each place. Well worth it!Written February 16, 2024
- Sherpa425404943830 contributionsWorth it!!We had an excellent trip to Sofia from Skopje. Our driver picked us up right on time, was friendly, and safely drove us the three and a half hours to Sofia. We picked up our guide in Sofia and had a lovely walking tour. We saw beautiful churches, government buildings, the changing of the guards and natural spring fountains. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke excellent English. A highlight for us was a stop at a mountain monastery on the way back. I would highly recommend this day trip!Written August 26, 2023
- 454heavenl0 contributionsA must do!I can't say enough good things about this experience. I went with my brother and it was something I was unsure about at first as it was a longer one than I'm used to but he's very into history so insisted we go. It was by far the best decision we made for this trip. The price seemed more then reasonable considering how long the tour was and how knowledgeable our tour guide was. He was amazing, prepared for the long distance travel, and filled us in about everything that one could want to know. He taught us about Macedonian history and current customs. I can not speak more highly of our tour guide and this experience. My sincerest thank you! Definitely a must do!Written August 17, 2023
- Lorna23210 contributionsOhrid walking tourWe did a walking tour of Ohrid with Naumka. It was the most enjoyable afternoon. Easy pace of walking, very personal tour from a local person. Highly recommended it set us up for lots of places to return to.Written June 1, 2023
- Famtrip_78490 contributionsWorth it!We did not want to return without seeing this charming town, which is on the UNESCO world cultural heritage list. Lake Ohrid is a precious lake that hosts more than 200 fish species. We are very lucky to have chosen this tour. Communicating with the agency was very fast and easy. Local guide was so knowledgable and friendly. If u do not have enough time to stay here. I highly recommend this tourWritten November 11, 2022
- Ana M0 contributionsAmazing boat tour from Ohrid to St. Naum with lunch and coffeeToday we took a boat tour from Ohrid to st. Naum with Lale tours. It lasted all day (from 9 am until 6pm). We were picked from our hotel, taken to the boat and the tour started. The guide Daniel is very nice guy who speeks good english and is very witty and funny. We were taken to see Bay of Bones, then taken to the coffee in a little village and given tour of the said village. Then we continued to st. Naum where we had 2 hours free time to see a monestary and the guide explaine to us the history related to it. I recommend to take a boat tour od the springs there. After that we were taken to the lunch at st. Znaum where the cook prepared delicious barbacue for us and we were given 2 hours to swim on the beach that has the clearest water I ever saw. After that we were taken to the place from which it is possible to jump from the cllif in the lake (if u want of course). The boat had speakers with great music and we had a lot of fun. The tour price is 36€ per person and includes beverages, lunch and coffee at the villlage. I think this is the best and incredibely affordable whole-day tour!! We loved it! I highly recommend it to everyone. As i understood, the agancy is family owned and they really do their best so their guests have great time. Plus at the agency headquaters they have amazing german shephard Max who loves cuddles and greats everyone.Written August 15, 2022

- elaguilazarco0 contributionsDon't Miss Ohrid with Experiene BalkanOutstanding Experience and Service. Daniel and his colleagues helped plan an exciting and fun adventure in Ohrid. They were extremely patient and clearly enjoy their work. Daniel shared his love for Ohrid and impressive knowledge with a an all-day tour and found us an outstanding hotel very close to the center of town. All of his recommendations were perfect. He also recommended a colleague to drive us to Thessaloniki, which was extremely helpful due to the Covid issues. I can't wait to return and when I begin planning, I will contact Experience Balkan immediately.Written August 27, 2021

Bobi was such an incredible guide. Knowledgeable beyond our expectations, patient, friendly and knew so many people around town that we felt in very good hands. Bobi gave incredible insight into the history and current culture of Ohrid and wider Macedonia. We loved the depth of his knowledge and his allowance of our questions. I would definitely recommend this guide to everyone. Thanks Bobi

My guide Naumka grew up in the city has tremendous knowledge about the history and culture. She did an excellent job of explaining the details of the sites that I would have otherwise overlooked. Excellent english, and she clearly loves her city and sharing it with visitors.

Guide met me at my hotel at time convenient to me, which was 3 hours after planned starting time. So kudos for flexibilit6y. Did not stint on the time for the tour and we walked all over the town stopping at key sites along the way. Even walked to the new theological university under construction and to the fabulously situated St. John Kaneo. If I had been on time, we would have also stropped at Holy Mary Peribleptos and the Icon Museum which are not on the usual walking tour, but incredibly special places not to be missed.

We really enjoyed the walking tour, our guide Vlad was very knowledgeable and took us to parts of the town we would had never found on our own. The town is situated up the side of a hill and some of our party had medical issues ie Angina and COPD but we had lots of stop on the way up so the climb was not a problem for them. Walking tours are not something we would normally do but we all enjoyed it. The tour lasted approx 4hrs with coffee break half way round and ending in a wine bar.

Very informative, Martina was excellent! Also very flexible, so we could stop for a coffee and a chat about all things Macedonian rather than just Ohrid
