Find out what makes the "Magic City" tick....
I loved my highlights tour with David. He was so informative and engaging. He gave me a better understanding of the city and some of its facets: food (I did not know about white barbeque so will have to try), the history of the negro league, civil rights and architecture. Will have to return to try the other tours like the ghost walk with my posse to celebrate my birthday. What a find!

      Wonderful learning experience.
Our guide was very knowledgeable, not only about the civil rights history but also the city's history in relation to the Black experience. Very lovely person, and a please to learn from her.

Thank you Wolfgang and team for a wonderful tour experience. You handled our group of 32 beautifully and your guides Wilhemena and David were knowledgeable and professional. Thank you for showing our guests Birmingham...they will never forget it!

      Our plans went awry...
2 days before the tour, David called to confirm that we were four adults and would need a larger size van than the car he usually drove for a couple or a family with kids. I greatly appreciated him verifying that. The day before the tour, weather caused the airline to reroute us, and I spent an hour at the airport trying to get us back on track - to no avail. Once it became apparent we wouldn't arrive in Birmingham on time to go on the tour the next day, I called David to let him know we had to cancel as our tight schedule didn't have any other alternative day. He said he would be happy to give us a refund if Trip Advisor would, as I hadn't booked directly with the tour company. Unfortunately, when I cancelled on TA, it was less than 24 hours before the tour start (though it was still the day before), which meant no automatic refund. After I got home from the tip, I filed a claim with TA, explaining what had happened with the airline and how I'd cancelled as soon as I could the day before. After a few days I got an email saying that yes, I would be getting a full refund, and a few days after that the refund appeared on my credit card. So the rating isn't for the tour itself but the friendly call ahead of time confirming the size car we'd need and the effort it took to get the refund.

      Wonderfully informative and entertaining.
The. tour was exceptional. Willamina was very knowledgeable, providing background information and context to the sights on the tour. She not. only explained the historical significance of stops, but also related other stories and events (both historical and current) as we walked to them.

An entertaining, personalised and informative tour of Birmingham Alabama
We took their Historic Highlights Tour which gave an overview of the history of Birmingham. Our guide (I can't remember his name, but he looked like a young Colonel Saunders) was very friendly and obviously knowledgeable about the city. The tour included a visit to Vulcan park, Arlington House and the Sloss Furnaces as well as the city’s most iconic landmarks. A really enjoyable and informative four hours. Highly recommended for an overview of Birmingham.

      Black History Matters!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour! Wilhamina offered a wealth of information and insight (above and beyond what is written on the signs) and was such a pleasant person to spend time with! The pace and coverage of the tour was great as well! Highly recommended!

      Birmingham Civil Rights Tour
Wilhamina is a jewel with deep understanding of Birmingham’s role during the Civil Right’s movement. As a local she was able to share more personal perspectives of the times.

      Great tour!
It was a very personalized tour. My guide was very knowledgeable and had all sorts of information about each area we saw. It was done leisurely with time to sit and talk as we enjoyed a soda at the peanut store. The mansion was very beautiful. We also toured the garden and even tasted a fresh fig right off the plant.

Wonderful tour guide who really knows the city and history from living it
We loved this tour. Being able to learn the history from someone who has lived her whole life here (and during the events discussed in the tour) was invaluable! Wilhelmina was great at answering our questions, and presenting the information in great ways for the adults and teens.

David was engaging and informative. His suit, top hat and pipe added to the charm. I enjoyed the history behind the buildings and hearing his personal stories about the strange things that go on inside them. People were asking about other buildings that we passed and he was able to tell them historical information about them with ease.

My husband and I have been on ghost tours across the US and Europe, many times we've been left looking at our wayches waiting for the night to be over. David's tour was over before we knew it and we could have spent another few hours with him listening to the history and stories. David made us feel like he had nowhere else to be and spent his time engaging the group with his stories. We never felt rushed and the evening went by too quickly.

The only part I didn't like was the jump scares. He was banging on metal objects that made loud and unexpected noises in an effort to make us jump. If you're a jumpy person, just be forewarned expect loud noises towards the end of the tour.

If we find ourselves back in Birmingham we would look to join another tour with David. He was an excellent tour guide.

My husband and I have been making it our "thing" to go on a ghost tour for each historic town we visit. We were pleasantly surprised at how well done, well researched, and fun this tour was! David was our guide, and he personalized the tour for our smaller group, taking us to multiple extra locations and telling us extra stories. We had a blast, and if you're in the area, this is a must-do.

We have now done two tours with Bham Ghost Walk. The first, Churches & Riots, was hosted by Dani. The second, Theatres, Infernos, and dark alleys was hosted by David.
    Amazing, knowledgeable, ENTERTAINING tour guides.
We got to learn much about the history of Bham, some folklore, see beautiful architecture, and even a few spirits.
We look forward to more tours with this company!!

Dani was fabulous, great story-teller, and adapted on the fly to make it ever more memorable as "things" happened along the way. We were a small group, and I've seen that lessen the quality, but not with Dani, she was awesome, particularly to my son ... who opted to kill me with a hatchet. Life lesson there. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone.

We had a great time on this tour and maybe even saw some ghosts! Erica is a good guide. Her love of the darker stories is evident and makes her storytelling very compelling. We saw and learned a lot but didn't actually walk very far. I will look at this company for more tours if I'm in Birmingham again.

Erica provided my wife and I a great Ghost Walk tour around various churches and hotels in downtown Birmingham. I grew up in Birmingham and still learned a lot of interesting stuff about the city and heard some creepy stories about buildings I’ve driven past hundreds of times. Erica was a great guide and we’d love to book another tour next time we’re in town.

We were the only 2 people on the tour because we went on a Monday night. Just as the tour began my friend realized that she left her purse in the uber that had just dropped us off. The guide was very accommodating and helped us get her purse back and then continued on with the tour without missing a beat. We gained a lot of info and the guide was nice and knowledgeable.

My wife and I went on the ghost tour and learned a bit about Birmingham over the course of the tour. David was a great tour guide with a good sense of humor that was interjected pretty well in between macabre stories about Birmingham. We do plan to try their other tours the next time we're in the area. I'd definitely recommended it for history buffs as well as folks who may like a scare or two!

We were on vacation in Birmingham and had paid for this tour a couple weeks prior to our trip. This company canceled our tour about an hour before departure time. We asked the guy what the availability was like for the rest of our trip to see if we could go another night, he wouldn't give us a definitive answer, so we asked for a refund instead since it was too much trouble to reschedule. He said he would refund us but never did. We contacted this company since then and they still have not refunded us!

1st of all, if you have not gotten a refund we most humbly apologize... The only reason we have canceled a tour recently is due to the extreme weather that has gone through Alabama.... So far as we know all refunds have been issued, but unfortunately your review Did not give me enough information to follow up with you and find out what has happened. Please send a direct email to tours@bhamhistory.com so we may take care of this and work with viator to find out what happened.
