About
Just 15 minutes away from San Pedro de Atacama you will feel that you travel to space in one of the valleys of the driest desert on Earth. This amazing tour in the Moon Valley is unique for its nature, because its famous geological formations are well-known thanks to the wind and the constant floods during centuries that gave this place its name because of its similarity with the moon.
On the one hand, this area is a compulsory visit for the ones who want to find vastness in front of their eyes and enjoy the silence among earth, salt, and loneliness. On the other hand, the Amphitheater, the Salt Caverns and the Three Marys are attractions the valley opens for its visitors, showing the preservation of the place and its perfect rock formations which define it with precision and personality.

Itinerary
- 1A mystical place in the Atacama desert, where the history of the earth meets that of the men and women who have inhabited this land for centuries. The totally alone scenes bathed in the salty white that between depressions and elevations within this place of bizarre shapes and colors. This museum was made product of the erosion that has sculpted the earth and the rocks that inhabit this place. The great dunes, the salt caverns, the remains of the old mine and the viewpoints throughout this are natural treasures that have been preserved for centuries. These also adopt a magical tone as the day passes, with the passing of the sun over the heads of the visitors depending on each day, which shines and brings to light what the earth wants to tell us. From the Kari viewpoint you see a large part of the Valley at your feet. Those places you visited, from a different perspective, but that causes the same astonishment. A place of emotions and that will bring memories to the future, which will leave a mark on your life.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- carolynbX2593NB0 contributionsNo show two times in a rowDid not show up for our tours two days in a row. We waited for two hours both days and finally cancelled the rest of our tours with them and had to book elsewhere. We believe they gave our seats to other people after over booking 3 months in advance and didn’t tell us. Poor communication. The only redeeming quality was that our tour guide Paloma was amazing the first day. I don’t recommend risking your precious time by booking here.Written October 29, 2022
- 849donaldl0 contributions7 hour tour with a very early startThe tour starts with your pickup around 5:00AM. You drive in the dark (we had some amazing star and planet gazing along the way) and arrive at the geysers before dawn ( so you can see the sunrise, which wasn’t that impressive). It was cold, 20 degrees F and with snow and ice on the ground. We had 40+ minutes to walk around the initial section ( dress WARM). Then we had outdoor breakfast by the van which our guide Mario cooked. By now the sun was up, the views were good. Breakfast was ok, the bread was hard and dry, hot water for cocoa, tea, coffee; other foods were ok, good. Then we drove to the hot springs where you could soak, swim for 20+ minutes. The water was cool, warm, but not hot, depending on where you were in the pool. There was another geyser area here to walk around and view. If this was your first geyser area to see, it was probably pretty good, if you have been to Yellowstone or New Zealand, it was ok. The drive back had some great views, animal sightings including flamingos and was actually the most impressive part of the day, for me. Our guide, Mario spoke decent English and made sure that we got good explanations, too. 3 IMPORTANT THINGS: dress very warm, in layers, be aware that you are at 14,000+ feet altitude, people do get sick because of that and bring a good pair of binoculars along if possible.Written February 8, 2020
- O8828RHandr_s0 contributionsThey ruined one day of our 4day trip :(We had booked and payed a half day trip to Vale de la Luna on the 30th December, but because we questioned if there was other options of tours instead of Luna, they gave our places in the tour to other people and didn't let us know!!! So we were waiting for the tour at the time scheduled and they simply told us that all tours were already booked and we wouldn't be able to go. Since they let us know very late, we couldn't even find another agency to take us. They returned our money but didn't make up for the lost vacation day :(( very disappointing, don't risk your trip by booking a tour with them.Written January 5, 2020
- Fernanda A0 contributionsVery poor tour and unprofessional behaviorOur tour with Capricornio Expediciones to Lagunas Escondidas was awful. It was 30min late for no apparent reason so we barely had time to enjoy the lagoons - we literally had to RUN to be able to reach both lagoons and still get the showers open, it made the trip really stressful. Plus, our guide did not explain ANYTHING that was going on, he literally didnt speak to the group at all. At the beginning he tried but the van was old and making so much noise that we couldnt hear him not even with a microphone!! (Believe me, he was 1 chair away from me and I couldnt hear) so he simply stopped trying and left us with no information at all regarding the places we were going to. Dont make the same mistake as we did and do not pick Capricornio Expediciones.Written January 5, 2020
- jnr21350 contributionsVery Cool SiteIt was a rough start. We started about an hour late since some people were missing. The guide was alright but it seems like it was hit or miss with tour guides. They seem to all work together when putting people on vans. The drive tied to make up for the loss time so drove on the faster side. We still hit all the points of the tour and got back just after 12.Written December 28, 2019
- Kimislostagain0 contributionsFun day out with a great guideI had an awesome time with these guys. It’s nice to travel about with people who genuinely like their day job. English and Spanish speaking. Comfortable, clean and reliable transport. The lagoons were breathtaking - make sure you get in! The floating is so fun! I can’t recommend them highly enough.Written September 24, 2019
