During my visit to Atacama I contacted Patricio as he has excellent comments and also focuses his service in the photographic field. My trip focused on photographing the heritage of the Atacameños and my choice of agency was absolutely correct.

Feron only 3 days in Atacama, but due to my long stay, Patricio proposed a very complete and strong itinerary to take advantage of every hour that we would be taking photos.

We managed to visit beautiful places outside of any travel guide and probably very little visited but with immense tourist potential, in addition to finding many intact rock art manifestations.

Almost every day there were excursions of more than 12 hours in a row to visit many places. It should be noted that Patricio offered me water, breakfast, lunch, snacks and everything with a gourmet quality every day.

I plan a new visit when the pandemic ends and without thinking twice I will make my trip again with Patricio.

With my wife we chose this agency for many reasons and we cannot be more grateful for the wonderful and incredible experience that the Patricios offered us. It is a small agency, only Patricio father and "Pato" the son work, therefore we loved that too much since we love family businesses wherever we go.

We contacted Pato many months before our visit and from the beginning he was very attentive to answer all our questions and managed to create an itinerary with everything we wanted, a private activity to enjoy the wonders of San Pedro and also give it a photographic approach since my wife loves photography and the landscapes that this area offers are incredible.

On every day of excursions we were able to taste the delicious food that Patricio prepares and also every day we could taste various strains of Chilean wine and all of premium quality. We enjoyed the delicious herbal tea for altitude, the simple but surprising cooked eggs at every breakfast and delicious snacks at sunsets.

One detail that we love was the passion and dedication that both of them put into their work, I hope the pandemic will end soon so that their job source can work again, since speaking with Pato a few days ago he told me that tourism is completely dead in San Pedro since March :(

From Atlanta we wish you both the best, many greetings from Carl & Elizabeth , stay safe!

Finally made it to San Pedro de Atacama after a 2 year wait. Pato was very accommodating with the delay and rebooking. The wait was well worth it. Pato is really knowledgable about the area and knows the best spots for photography. I had a problem with my camera so he loaned one of his Sonys and was very hands-on with his instructions (I'm a Nikon shooter). I got the shots I wanted! Worth noting is he is an excellent driver which is required to get to some of the more remote places we went.

The experience with Patricio son and Patricio father was one of the best photo tours I've ever taken in my life. For years I wanted to know the Atacama desert and take beautiful photographs of the night sky, sunsets, sunrises, volcanoes, lagoons and much more and San Pedro de Atacama offered me everything. I did private photo tours with Pato and his father as they have very good reviews and above all they focus on photography, in addition to being able to choose the best spots and hours of the day. In my visit I managed to take many very valuable photographs for my career and I hope to return to see more amazing places in the Atacama desert and I will 100% do it again with the Patricio's

We booked 3 outings with Patos, and had an absolutely amazing time. He is a skilled photographer and has great composition ideas and knows all the good locations. We did everything from astrophotography to venturing to the ice geyser and the argentine border, and enjoyed it all. I'm hoping to find a time to go back for more intensive photography and camping in the altiplano.

We spent a shortened amount of time in Atacama due to Covid-19 however, our pre-booking a private photography tour with Pato created a memorable stay and we actually left with good memories and a commitment to return.

I cannot say enough good things about Pato and his company Volcan Paniri Tours. If you are a photographer - or even if you are not - Pato is one of the few actual certified guides in San Pedro and has a wealth of knowledge about every aspect of the area. He also lives in the Atacama and has a deep respect and love of the natural beauty and enthusiasm to share.

We spent 2 full days with Pato and during that time learnt about the geology, animals, some of the ecological challenges, astronomy (we did some night photography and star gazing), social, political and climate issues specific to Atacama.

This was NOT a cookie cutter tour typical of others one can sign up for in Atacama. Pato met with us the evening before our day with him to discuss the plan for the next day and discover our interests. It is obvious he is a serious photographer and has scouted out the best photo locations and also is mindful of lighting and time of day for photography.

He picked us up before sunrise to take us to the first location......he was generous in his knowledge and assisted us if we had technical or composition questions. There was NEVER any rush to move to the next location and there was also never any issue of stopping along the way should we wish to take photos. In fact, he often would point out a potential photo op.

There was always water available for drinking and Pato put on an amazing breakfast and lunch spread - complete with portable picnic table. Personally, I think he was having as much fun as we were and he also brought along an extra tripod (good he did as mine malfunctioned) and his own camera. I also had an opportunity to take some videos with my drone!

Our two days with Pato were in sharp contrast to our half day tour with another company in San Pedro.....where our guide seemed more focused on keeping company with the driver than engaging with us in any meaningful way. Very little water on board (thankgoodness we brought our own) and more of a drop off and collect when you are finished attitude. The driver even parked the van right in the most scenic spot and we had to request he move.

We will no doubt be back to Atacama for a hopefully longer stay and will be seeking out Volcan Paniri Tours and Pato.

My wife and I recently spent a week in the Atacama Desert. It was truly a life changing experience and Pato, our expert guide, curated the absolute perfect adventure. It was through Pato's photography (instagram: @patoosesphotography) that we first discovered the Atacama. Having gone through his photos we knew we wanted to visit and messaged Pato to see if he might be available as a guide. Turned out, along with photography, he and his father ran a small tour guide business for individuals and small groups. Having traveled halfway around the world, we opted to pay a little bit more and booked three days with Pato. Best decision we made with our only regret being, not having booked for five days.
Having grown up in the Atacama and with a lifelong passion for photography and nature, Pato expertly guided us through the martian landscape, from valleys full of llamas (you're going to see lots and lots of llamas) to volcanic peaks letting off their daily steam. We started each morning just before six am (would have been 5am if up to Pato) with him picking us up from our hotel in his 4Runner. We'd spend the first hour or so driving to our first spot. The drive itself was beautiful with Pato spending the car time to educate us on the history, topography, as well as pointing out the abundant wildlife.
With the paved roads long behind us and sunrise waking up the landscape with its golden glow, he'd pull over, set up a breakfast table and we'd feast on local bread, fresh fruit, cheese, nuts, hot coffee and a special tea to assist with potential elevation discomfort. The first morning we ate overlooking a lake at the base of a volcano. Our only company being the many pink flamingos fishing for breakfast. The second and third morning were the same, only different heavenly views. We spent our days going from one valley, one peak, to the next, trekking through ancient rock formations, salt flats with hot springs where we floated while admiring the foreign landscape, to attempting to decipher the hieroglyphs carved in the cliffs by long lost generations.
When the day was ready to close, Pato would drop us back at the hotel to recharge for a few hours before he'd be back to pick us up again for our night tour. Nights were equally entertaining, spent far out in the desert with only the stars and Milky Way to light our path. Local history lessons would morph into a photography class and we'd attempt to capture the beauty of the universe on top of us.
Pato, is the Atacama. He takes pride in his heritage, deeply appreciates the lessons of the generations before him, the ancient history of their magical home. He's a well of knowledge and after three days, I assure you, you'll be left with a desire to return, see more. Along with being a great guide, Pato is a nice guy, easy to talk to, happy to answer all questions, and does a phenomenal job preparing for each day. Our tours included breakfast and lunch. I would recommend bringing along some snacks in your backpack and definitely don't forget the sunscreen and clothes for hot and cold. Days are baking hot and nights equally cold.
Pato gets our absolute highest recommendation. Our three days far exceeded my highest expectations and his local knowledge was exactly what we'd hoped for in booking with an individual as opposed to a tour company running cookie cutter tours, often led by inexperienced guides.

My mum and i visited San Pedro de Atacama in mid-August with a private tour organized by Pato. We were really impressed by his guiding, with his knowledge in the local area, and his knowledge in photography not only helps us taking better photos, but also taking some excellent photos that has sent us back via Google Drive.

Pato is also an individual that cares about the development of the Atacama area, as he feared the natural beauty will be washed away by the uranium production. He is going to produce a short movie on it. One of the best ways to support the environment of Atacama and his project would be to sign for his tours.
