- trism520 contributionsDon't miss thisSet in a stunning valley the walk itself with the views is worth a trip. The church with the paintings from the 13th century is amazing. The walnut trees in the parking lot provided the snacks we needed.Written October 1, 2024

- Z9528Iris0 contributionsVeliko & ArbanasiWe were delivered a wonderful tour of Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi, a detailed itinerary, carefully thought and well balanced, adaptable to the tourists wishes. We were presented to the hidden places and we were made feel integrated to the lovely scenery. Drago, a very knowledgeable, smart, funny and enthusiastic guide, showed and explained us the beauty and rich history of these lands, accessorized with his great personality and engaging attitude. I was attracted to Drago’s knowledge of history, arts and religion, demonstrated throughout the entire tour, and mostly by Tsarevets’s church art presentation and Arbanasi church’s resemblance of a winery with interesting paintings. Bottom line: an interesting tour - a combination of main sightseeing, history, art and spirituality - ready to be repeated! Thanks, Drago!Written October 30, 2019
- EleCurly0 contributionsVeliko discoveryVery nice tour of Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi, with our local guide Drago. He is smart, funny and entertaining. He is a genuine storyteller and transforms the historical texts in something more memorable. I don't remember now any year or king name, but I do remember the story with the plane flying below the bridge :) and many others, which make me want to come back and explore more of the city. Well done, Drago! I loved your enthousiasm, energy and (tons of) patience with us.Written October 28, 2019

- marinos00930 contributionsAmazing tourLast week we had the tour going to Krushuna waterfalls and Devetashka cave . Our tour guide Drago was very knowledgeable and friendly. He told us so many things about the places we were going but other information about Bulgaria also. It wasn’t like we had a tour guide with us but a friend. The places we went were amazing and the scenery breath taking. The price was really good as we spend so much time. I’ll totally recommended having a tour with Drago and seeing the waterfalls and the caves is a must !!Written August 5, 2019
- cfma20000 contributionsLots of Learning Lots of FunWe spent a day touring from Veliko Tarnovo with Drago. It was a wonderful full day of sightseeing with lots of fun along the way. Drago had good knowledge of each place we visited, stopped at a great local cafe for lunch and even enabled us to visit a not often open Thracian Tomb.Written July 1, 2019

- jacynta220 contributionsJust like hanging out with a mate - One day tour of the Valley of the Thracian Kings & Rose Valley (Kazanluk & Shipka)I cannot recommend Veliko Tarnovo Day Tours highly enough. Their prices are very competitive (especially in comparison to tour companies in nearby cities, such as Plovdiv), they have a wide variety of tour options, you’re in control of the itinerary every step of the way, and my guide, Drago, was far superior to any other guide I’ve ever had! I started the day with a prompt pick up from my hotel in Veliko Tărnovo. This was a one-on-one day tour, and so it was just my guide, Drago, and I. We started by visiting a Thracian temple/tomb in Kazanluk (which was full of fascinating history). Drago told me about the history of the tomb, when it was discovered, excavated, it’s internal features, and it’s significance. At this particular tomb, you are unable to enter the original tomb (in order to ensure that it kept well preserved), however we were able to enter the replica tomb (which was still very cool!). On the way to Kazanluk, we drove through the Rose Valley, which were not yet in bloom as I visited at the beginning of May. So, we went to the Rose Museum instead (which was not part of the original plan, and so for me, an awesome added bonus!). Drago was a wealth of knowledge about rose oil production and exportation! His style is both informative and truthful - you’ll get a straight up account of history, Bulgarian customs and realities, and more, if you choose to go on a tour with Drago. We then went to a church in Kazanluk and later had lunch at a cafe of my choosing. We spoke about Bulgarian history, culture, and on occasion, politics! It felt like I was having lunch with a mate because Drago is very personable and friendly. Our next visit was the Valley of the Thracian Kings near Shipka, which were truly fascinating in my opinion! We saw three temples/tombs, each original structures that had been there since ancient times, each with differing internal features and structures. Again, Drago was so incredibly knowledgeable and spoke to me about how the tombs had been used, what was buried in them, and why there were significant. He was so knowledgeable that twice - on two separate occasions while visiting the tombs - Bulgarian people stopped to ask Drago more about the tombs! He was friendly and kind enough to answer their questions, once in English for my benefit, or otherwise, stopping to translate in order to keep me in the conversation (very considerate). Drago was patient with my desire to take a billion and one photos (such a tourist!), and would stop whenever I wanted to stop, and answer unrelated questions I had, like what mountains were in the distance, or how many stray dogs are there in Bulgaria! He made me feel really at ease and comfortable. After the Valley of the Thracian Kings, we went to Shipka where we saw a Russian church (and memorial) which was beautiful, albeit very sombre. He made sure I was able to take some photos (without having to pay an additional fee), and then spoke about the Ottoman Empire and the Russo-Turkish War. An added extra - which I was not expecting at all - was that Drago drove me up the mountain to the Monument to Freedom, Stoletov peak, where I saw the most breathtaking views of nature that I have ever seen in my life (and I’ve been to Bhutan!). Drago spoke about the significance and history behind the monument, and at the top, we took some silly videos showcasing just how windy it was up there! You won’t regret it if you book with Veliko Tarnovo Day Tours. I actually am a self-confessed anti-tour person (I’ll only do a tour if there are no feasible options for independent travel to a particular place/s). But the entire day with Drago far surpassed my expectations and turned out way better than what I could have possibly hoped for. I had control of the itinerary every step of the way, Drago made sure that I didn’t miss out on anything, and he was truly the most awesome company. I certainly would not have been able to do all I did in one day one my own, without Drago. Drago, thank you for showing me the beauty, diversity, history and sheer awesomeness that is Bulgaria. During my week in Bulgaria, this day tour with Veliko Tarnovo Day Tours has been my best day yet!Written May 5, 2019

- kathrynekuhn0 contributionsBest Day in YearsI booked through BulTrips and had an absolutely wonderful time. Daniel, guide extraordinaire, was knowledgeable, witty and so accommodating. The city is breathtaking, with stunning Mountain vistas, charming old streets and interesting architecture. We had lunch at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant where the food was delicious. On to the fortress. Spectacular is the only word to use. It was incredible. So much history. Daniel made it come alive. This is a must do for someone visiting Bulgaria. BulTrips is wonderful company. First rate in every way, from hotel pick up to informative and entertaining guides to great organization. I went on four of their excursions and was thrilled with each and every one of them.Written March 16, 2019
- Matheus B0 contributionsDay Trip from Veliko Tarnovo to Krushuna Waterfalls, Devetashka cave and the town of LovechVeliko Tarnovo Day Tours guide picked us from our hotel. In a half an hour drive, we went to Krushuna waterfalls where we were surprised to see unique picturesque scenery. Then we reached one of the biggest caves in Bulgaria. The cave is huge. During communism, it was a secret military compound. When we got hungry, we asked the guide to lead us to a local restaurant. The cozy restaurant had amazing local food and was at the center of the town of Lovech. After eating, we visited an Old Turkish bath we were explained how it operated. It had an underground water system build beneath the floor. There was even a glass case on the floor beneath which we saw the bricks that built the underground heating system. At the end of the trip we have the chance to go up to the local fortress. It was smaller than Tsarevets fortress, but it had a nice view over the town. We had a great time and the guide was polite and very knowledgeable of the area.Written September 5, 2018
