Amazing tour with a super knowledgeable tour guide,Francesco. He took us from the very top of Rocinha Favela and walked us down the whole hill with safety while he was providing us with many important and valuable information about how people live their lives there and how this small city within the city of Rio actually works and breaths. All and all, it was a fantastic,amazing experience which I totally suggest to everyone! Thank you Francesco!!

Highly recommend, we had great guides (Marcello and Barbara), very interesting talking about problems in Brazil, social differences. Barbara was very willing to help me (I had stomach problems due to food poisoning during the tour), she did not leave us alone and ordered a taxi from favella when we had to leave the tour earlier due to these health problems. We booked the tour which was supposed to include transport on an air conditioned bus. Marcelo arrived in a small car and made an excuse about having to borrow the car because his was damaged. He then picked up another couple and we were all squashed in the car and taken to a meeting point where we had to get out and walk with our guide, Leo. Throughout the whole journey to the meeting point, we had to endure Marcelo’s political views, which whilst may be valid to mention during the tour to some extent, he came across like an extreme radical, and was totally off putting. Leo (our guide) was amazing and he gave us a brilliant tour of the favelas, with a balance of facts and insights into life in the favelas. The tour really is an eye opener and reminder of some of the contrasting lifestyles between rich and poor in the world, with leaderships and their priorities in question. Unfortunately, we discovered there was never any intention to use an air conditioned bus to transport us to or from the favelas. To get there we were squashed into a small car, and to return, we were taken on the underground metro system and left to get off at our own stops alone. Be warned: there is a fair bit of walking on the tour, mostly up and down lots of narrow steps. I have 3 chronic diseases and found much of it quite tricky to manage. The guide moves quickly and thankfully, other people in the group kept looking out for me and my husband.

Our guide , Barbara, was very knowledgeable and interesting. She showed us the other side of the favelas, away from the headlines. It was nice to think that some money from our tour goes to help the community- particularly the children.

I took this tour today and I must say what a great experience this was. Barbara our guide was phenomenal!! She knows so much about the favelas particularly this one. Like most people I had preconceived ideas about those districts which she changed. She made sure we felt safe the whole time by explaining the evolving safety within this community. You get a bigger picture of how criminality was developed back in the 80s and 90s which gives you a bigger picture of media’s portrayal. We got to walk through and see how they built it and the way they live. It was quite interesting. I highly recommend it. Jérémy

Thiago is a great guide! I was some few minutes late and they waited for me. Polite and very safe atmosphere, you won't feel any perils because they know what they're doing.

This was an amazing eye opening experience. As Carlos the tour guide put it "seeing 2 countries in 1". I absolutely recommend it, its safe! I could relate to this as its pretty much how my country is, its a bittersweet unforgettable tour. Always good to see the diversity of countries. No holiday should be complete without doing this. Carlos you truly inspired me!

We had a great favela tour with Edson as guide. He was very communicative and friendly and showed us all the quirky spots and neighbourhoods of the favela. It felt very safe and it was interesting to see the busy every-day life of the people living there. Can abselutely recommend this tour.

Barbara is awesome and really makes it come alive. She has a genuine love and care for the people of the favelas. Don’t miss it! But don’t stand in the open doors of people’s homes and take photos inside as some in our group did. Treat the people with dignity and respect.

We did the Rocinha favela walking tour with Carlos. It was fantastic despite the pouring rain. Carlos is a passionate advocate for the favela people and the importance of education to lift the residents out of their impoverished situation.

be warned don't go on this tour its political and dangerous wouldn't do it again ever Flavelas are not safe no matter what you tour guide says, rat runs, rats, guns, cockroaches and poverty booked stay clear

The tour was superb. Our guide Barbara was simply the best. She gave detailed information about the history of the favelas, took us to walk around. At no time, did I sense any fear. Actually I felt that we were in good hands. We can take pictures everywhere. People were quite friendly. I was quite apprehensive before I joined the tour. Everybody warned me against going into the crime ridden slums. But it turned out fine as long as you picked the right company to take you there.

This was an incredible experience and was very interesting. Some of the homes were guarded by heavy security and no pictures were allowed making you wonder who was inside. It was crazy to see some of the poorest people on earth living in the slums with flat screen tvs and everything you would find in a typical home in america.
