- ElisaMendonca100Excepcional experienceThis is a must have experience, especially with the right guidance , in our case Daniel. We definitely recommend it to everyone , you should’ve this done!
- dreaded1200Enjoyable, but it is a HIKELearning the history of Vidigal was nice, the soccer pitch in the mountain was great. Views from areas were beautiful & so was the jungle. Our guide Russo grew up in Vidigal & was extremely knowledgeable. People were very friendly. It was much more of a hike than I expected BUT I had two different events mixed up. This Favela was very dirty, trash everywhere.
- 377irenejk00Overall very interesting and very safe.Very nice and very safe tour of the Rochina favela. You're always with two locals so nothing will happen to you - gangs who rule the place make sure that tourists are kept safe, as criminals are not allowed to make problems inside the favela but outside in town. So really it's not a safety issue to visit with a tour. We went with Alberto - he was nice overall, but maybe a bit modest with words - we expected some more explanation about stuff. We could also pay by card online which was great.
- laurenbh700A must do in rioA MUST DO IN RIO! I was unsure as it is looking upon those in poverty but is infact true rio culture
- Stephanie T00MUST-DOThis is a must-do. My guide was Alberto (with Bruno) and it was wonderful to hear from someone who lives in the favela. I usually explore by myself and don’t really like group activities but I would do this again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Obrigada!!!
- zeraerikaa00AmazingAmazing experience! Thank you Daniel! Best guide ever . We enjoyed every minute, and we get all the information we need about Favela.
- AprilForbes00Wonderful DayThis was a wonderful day, got to experience the highlights of the city, and to visit Christiansborg and Rosenborg Palace. We were lucky that the weather was also good, which always adds to an experience. Christiansborg Palace was beautiful and my ma and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, it is wonderful to learn about Danish history. My ma truly enjoyed the crown jewels in Rosenborg Palace and I loved the grounds, had more excitement than expected.... Alarms went off and the army shut the palace down whilst the police arrived to ensure everything was ok. That was definitely an added bonus. I would definitely recommend 🙂
- 56ronjak5600Unforgettable experienceWe had a very unique and unforgettable experience in Rocinha - and we are very grateful to had the chance to discover the other side of Rio. We had the perfect tour guide (Carlos) with us who explained the favela life & history behind. We can only recommend everyone who is visiting Rio to book this favela tour.
- Amanda D00Definitely an overwhelming but fascinating experience !My family of 4 (children ages 9 and 11) took the 5-Hour Private Favela with Tijuca Rainforest. Our guide, Alberto, is a great ambassador for Rio :) His passion for the forest and the favelas was evident. Although some areas of the forest were closed because of recent rain and mudslides, Alberto still made every attempt to give us an indepth tour of the rainforest. We then made our way to Rocinha, which was the highlight of the day. We walked the winding roads and were immersed in the daily lives of the residents. We are experienced travelers and I don't see how we could have managed the favelas on our own. It is definitely an overwhelming but fascinating experience best seen with a local guide.
- Cam B00PerfectWe just finished this tour. Alberto and the rest of the team were amazing guides. They made us feel incredibly safe and comfortable in a location that we have been taught to fear. They even accommodated our unusual requests (I asked Alberto if we could see his house, so he took the entire group inside his home so we could see how he lives). After finishing the tour, someone in our group realized they left their phone in the transport van. We contacted them and they brought it back to our hotel. I recommend that anyone with the fitness necessary to spend 3 hours walking down uneven stairs should attend this tour. It is a truly amazing cultural experience and it helps you shed many biases.
- Anna A00Favela experienceIt was not just a tour-it was an experience. Truly amazing. Our guide Carlos was sooo passionate about his community and very honest in what he does and he is awesome at it. This tour was an icing on the cake for us because it made us experience what favela is all about and how it funciones. Carlos all the best to you and your community ❤️ Regards form Poland - Anna & Leszek
- mrslaurag8600Favela walking tourWe had Carlos for this tour and he was amazing. He really engaged with the kids as well as adults and explained everything about his community. My son was really interested in how the post is delivered when they don’t live on the Main Street. The tour was very safe and everyone we met was very welcoming to us exploring their neighbourhood. We took our children age 8, 10 and 12. This was my favourite tour while in Rio and I would highly recommend
- Y9969IWdavidk00⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🇧🇷 Fantastic walking tour 🇧🇷 ⭐️⭐️⭐️This afternoon trip was superb. Our guide, Carlos, was highly educational and fun. Taking time to explain the history and day to day life within Rocinha. Highly recommended.
- Kookaburrabakery00Big part of RioOur guide Carlos was absolutely amazing! We were so lucky that he was our guide. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Depending on guides the experience can be quite different but overall every guides from this company is from Rocinha and they know about their town very well.
- serena7100Definitely recommended! We appreciated a lot the tour. It was very interesting and the Guide was very nice, friendly and, above all, knowledgeable. Very professional Organization Definitely recommended, very good value for money.

This tour was filled with meandering rambling and killing time. Our guide Carlos kept repeating himself and making strange points in what almost seemed like crazy rambling. He didn't really tell us much about the Favela other than that it wasn't dangerous. He took us all to a fast food spot where we had to try the food and juice for R5, killing about 30 minutes. This was followed at the end of the tour by a stop at a bar for "the best caipiriñhas in Brazil" - R15 for a 200ml drink we were pressured into buying where we sat for 30 minutes while Carlos left us for some other important business. It was a 30 minute drive each way so in total it was more like a 1 hour tour than 3.
I have been on a much better, more informative tour of this Favela before with a different agency and after this experience I would still recommend a Favela tour, but absolutely not with this agency.

We are very sorry for your experience with us - this is definitely not the message we want to give to our customers!
As for the tour duration - it is a 2-hour tour inside the favela + transportation back and forth which ends up as 3 hours, but it is ok, you are a bit bitter about the experience, so even good things become bad things! We respect that too as probably you had a bad day even before meeting us.
About the stops, it is a way to relax a bit after walking around 5km inside the favela under a hit of 40 degrees celcius and no one under no circumstances are forced to buy anything rather than your own willing to. Having that said, we wish you a pleasant trip in Rio and be safe!

Visiting Rocinha was already highlight of our trip, but to have Alberto as a guide was out of this world. He seems to know just about everyone there and he is so knowledgeable. We got all information and more about the history and present situation in the favela. The visit is super safe and, let me be clear, not that physically demanding, even with my 150+ kg. We finished the visit with the lunch at the local restaurant and it was well worth it, as we were the only non-locals (and kind of attraction).
Highly highly recommend!

Enjoyed having a better understanding of gritty, real favela life and seeing how people live up close. Having a local guide was critical to seeing the favela, otherwise we would’ve had no idea where to go. On the downside, the guide made it very clear over and over his contempt for the government, and those who have money in the areas outside of the favela. His tour was very intense at times, as he most passionately explained favela life. Good and bad.
The one thing he was trying to demonstrate was that favelas are actually safe, although everyone else that we met including locals and our taxi driver, told us to steer clear of the favelas.
As a woman, I was a little nervous at first but that soon dissipated as the people on the streets were very friendly. These tours take place in the early afternoon when many residents are working elsewhere.
Overall, we are glad we took the tour. It was important for us to experience this with our own eyes.
One drawback was that we were returned to our starting point a full hour after the tour ended, interfering with some other plans we had. We waited in a hot bus for 30 or more minutes for the group that drove with us to finish up. The bus driver was lovely.

Thank you first of all for coming on our tour. It has been a pleasure for us to take you to our neighborhood. On the other hand, it is important to state the the safety meant by our guide is not a general safety about favelas in Rio but his own opinion about Rocinha and his every day life. Moreover, there is no 100% safety in any place in the world. Furthermore, we truly understand that your frustration has to do with the fact that you were waiting in the bus for 30 minutes as you said, but you forgot to say that you took a group tour which was split into 2 groups, bring 9 of them in Spanish with 2 elderly people whose mobility was very complex and our guide tried his best to make sure he could be in time. Anyways, we cannot make everyone happy.
Have a great day

If you're interested in visiting one of Rio's favelas in an interactive and humanising way as opposed to just driving through in a vehicle like you're on a safari then i'd highly recommend this tour. Our guide Carlos (a resident of the favela) was incredibly and genuinely passionate about sharing the stories of his neighbourhood and its people. A very educational and eye opening tour. Photos are generally permitted but there are certain areas where we were told not to at the respect and request of the people in the area. Pick up and drop off was easy and smooth and the transport vehicle was comfortable. A highlight of my trip to Rio!

Our tour guide (Albierto) and his guide-in-training (Bruno) were very informative on this tour. There are many good insights provided with Albierto's commentary . . . this is an eye-opening experience. At first it feels weird to walk through living quarters . . . it feels unnatural to be 'observing' how someone else lives as if they were in a zoo. However there doesn't seem to be a proportionately uncomfortable feeling by the residents. Indeed, they seem used to people being escorted through their territory. Albierto was born/raised in Rocinha; this certainly provided an unexpected believability factor to his guiding commentary. There were two areas where he asked that we do not take pictures for a few minutes whilst walking so we don't accidentally take pictures of someone who might not want their pictures taken. But everywhere else is acceptable and many of the residents smile (and two even 'posed' for me with broad, friendly expressions) when you take their picture.
If this tour does not give you a moment of pause and consideration into another aspect of how some people live, you aren't paying attention.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Both Bruno and Alberto are very glad for your words. It makes us all happy about it. Coming on our tour is definitely a social experience! Once you have signed up for the tour - you are also providing for families who cannot have 3 meals a day as well as the opportunity to people like Bruno to learn English and interact with foreigners. Thanks for the opportunity and again, for your comments!

I’m glad we opted for the favela walking tour. It was really easy to book online in advance and I received lots of email communication in the run up to our day which was helpful. A minivan picks you up from your agreed pick up locations in Rio. Our guide, Carlos, lives in Rocinha favela, and he’s a nice guy who speaks good English and is very passionate about his community and breaking down the stereotypical views about favelas. We felt completely safe at all times in this neighbourhood. The walk itself starts from the top and you work your way down through the alleys and a few main streets. There are some big steps and uneven ground involved. Carlos pauses to talk and inform the group about various things. There’s a 15 minute stop at a bar where you can purchase refreshments. The minivan is waiting at the end of the tour to take you back to the drop off locations. The tour is interesting and I’m glad I’ve done it.

Walking tour with a lot of background with a local guide. Group tour where a minibus takes you to the top of Rocinhas and you walk down with a pickup at the bottom. Caipi at the end was a bit pricey. Altogether highly recommended.
Not sure about the statement of the guide that you can safely walk through any of the favelas in Rio with your SLR camera and without a guide ;)

Thanks a lot for your review. We really appreciate your time in writing to us and sharing your experience with everyone. However, it is really essential to state that we do not encourage anyone to visit a Favela on their own, simply because there are more than 1000 Favelas in Rio and we do not know the safety situation in each one of them. Nevertheless, Rocinha Favela has been the only Favela which we work closely since 2002 and with local tour guides. Last but not least, we would like to wish you a great day from all of us :)

We did this tour a few days ago on our last full day in Rio, there was no issues getting picked up and I liked that we had a small group of 5 of us plus our tour guide Alberto.
It really was a fascinating walk through the twists, turns and maze of the favela, it is a surprise just what exists in the favela as the community have built a good variety of shops etc to meet their needs just like any community.
Alberto was a good guy, very genuine and down to earth and taught us all sorts about the politics of the favela.
This tour is really worth doing to really understand what a favela is like rather than just the fearful reputations they have. It was bustling and felt more safe than you would imagine.
As others have said it does involve some tight and narrow steps and walkways but it really does add to the experience if you are able to do it.
The small group size we had was a bonus as we got to know each other in the group for the couple of hours we spent together. I can't recommend this highly enough.

I really didn’t know what to expect at all. I guess we have all read stories about Favelas hence the hesitation. And I guess there are still some areas that are less desirable but with a local with us we definitely felt safe.
Our tour guide was Carlos de Souza and what an inspiration this guy is. So passionate, informative and an great ambassador to show the world the true Favela.
He was there on time and the groups were split into different languages.
The bus was clean and tidy.
I enjoyed listening to his stories as he enlightened us about his home.
We started walking around the Favela and I found it totally fascinating.
The one thing that stood out to me was the electricity cables all hanging from house to house and to the next house across roads and numerous other object.
We were given the opportunity to buy a local pastry and a drink, which were delicious. Then later on the tour a beer or two.
I found the tour very informative and interesting.
All this after a 16 hour flight but I’m glad I did it.
Personally I wouldn’t like to live there but the locals seemed happy and content. I guess for me it is too built up. Houses on top of each other, absolutely amazing architecture. Although I wouldn’t want to get out quickly if there was a fire.
So please give it a go and make up your own mind.

Our guide took us near the top of the Favela, and we walked though alleys and down steep stairs and paved roads past house and shops till we reached the bottom and back at the main road, all the while telling us about living there and more. The whole experience was more than expected. Our legs were a bit sore the next day. Highly recommended.

Hi, we are 2 adults and 1 child. The child will be 9 when we come in Feb. But your booking info says a child is 1-8 and a youth is from 10 up. Where does a 9 year old sit - can I book him as a child or not?

Hi, when you click on check availability, you get multiple choices ( Spanish, Portuguese, English). Check the available hours for the English one and you will get an English speaking tour guide . I hope this helps.
Hello, i did not receive the ticket, i only have the booking number? I can show this at the meeting point?

Hi
Is it possible to start the tour from Ipanema beach instead of the start point?
Does the part of the tour before Ipenema includes important / historical information or is it just transport?

You can be picked up from your hotel if you choose that option. The guide was very good but all the historical information was about the favela not the rest of Rio. I can recommend it though, we found it a very interesting ‘other’ face of Rio.

From getting dropped off at the top of the favela to walking to the end its about 2.5 hours of so. Obviously extra time is for pick ups and drop off son the way to and from Copacabana / Ipanema.
Hi, we (two people) would love to book a tour for tomorrow, 25.02, but in payment you ask for cpf number, which I do not have as I am from abroad. Is there an alternative way to contact you and book? Thanks
