Itinerary
- 1Your tour begins at Tijuca National Park where you will hike to the Pedra Bonita summit, which is a natural viewpoint at over 2200 feet (693 m) above sea level and located in the sector C of the Park. During the tour, your guide will take you for a hike on the Agulhinha Gavea trail, a natural counterfort, or buttress, with a beautiful view of the Dois Irmaos Hill then head to Pedra Bonita. Once you reach the top of Pedra Bonita, you can admire beautiful scenery. You can see Pedra da Gávea in all its magnificence, between the beaches of Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado. This, combined with the immensity of the Tijuca Forest in the background, makes the perfect view and place for peace and beauty. Due to its location, Pedra Bonita region has the only gliding ramp in the city of Rio de Janeiro from where you can hang glide or paraglide. The gliding ramp has a grandstand so you can actually watch the takeoffs and take great pictures. The hike's total duration is about 4 hours and it is the perfect adventure for those who want to hike through the forest and be dazzled by one of the most beautiful views in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Have in mind that if you choose regular option, the meeting point is at the grandstand of the gliding flights take off ramp because it is the only place in the region with mobile phone service. To reach the ramp, you'll have to go up to the second parking lot and take the stairs on your left, where you'll find the ramp area. --------------------------------- Meeting point (if regular tour option selected) : At the entrance of the sector C of the park accessed at Estrada das Canoas next to number 4000 in São Conrado neighborhood.

- Z9380IVdaniele0 contributionsFantastic guide and beautiful viewsOur guide Sergio was absolutely fantastic. He made us feel very confident and was very personable. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone that is either a beginner in rock climbing or someone that is a little more advanced that is looking for a more casual crag with beautiful views of sugarloaf mountain, Christ the redeemer and the beach right below. Sergio also mentioned that he guided on more difficult crags if you are looking for something more intense.Written March 15, 2025

- N7986GBdanielc0 contributionsA Life-Changing Rock Climbing Experience with a Truly Inspiring GuideMy rock climbing experience with Thomas was absolutely incredible! From start to finish, he was an excellent guide—knowledgeable, patient, and super encouraging. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber, he makes sure you feel safe and confident every step of the way. Thomas took the time to explain everything clearly and even shared some great climbing techniques. His passion for the sport is contagious, and he truly goes above and beyond to make the experience enjoyable. The location was stunning, and the climb itself was both challenging and rewarding. Beyond being a great instructor, Thomas is just a genuinely wonderful person. He’s kind, down-to-earth, and so easy to be around. I enjoyed every moment of the experience, not just because of the climbing but because of the great company. I loved it so much that I signed myself up for a climbing gym as soon as I got back! Thomas definitely sparked a new passion for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful. If you’re looking for an amazing rock climbing adventure with an incredible guide, I highly recommend him!Written February 11, 2025

- victoriacZ9403TM0 contributionsBeautiful experienceThe tour van was very punctual and Valber, our tour guide was very friendly. He was also bilingual so we didn't have any issues with communication (my friend and I speak Spanish as a first language and only a little Portuguese). The boat was big and had all the amenities (you do have to pay separately for drinks, food and floating vests). Our lunch was included with the tour price and was a buffet at the last stop, Bar de Luiz, there was a lot of variety and it was all delicious, we only had to pay separately for drinks and dessert. I definitely going for a swim at the last stop, it's breathtaking. We had an amazing day swimming with fishes and enjoy good food and beautiful views.Written December 10, 2024

The summary: Well worth the roughly 45 minute hike up a steep hill. The details: You'll likely get dropped off at the entrance gate of a very steep and long paved driveway however there are some private cars that park along the entrance asking if you want a drive up the steep driveway for $R5 or so. It may actually be worth it as that hike up could be pretty intense as it's quite steep. Once you arrive at the little cafe, you'll see the actual trail entrance. This is for people that can handle a fairly intense incline for a long period of time - at least 40 minutes of pretty steep and often slippery pathways. The first section you'll feel deep inside a rainforest hence the slippery traction. WEAR MOSQUITO SPRAY otherwise you will for sure get bitten a lot. Once you reach the top, you'll be blessed with perhaps the best view in Rio. The views even extend past Barra Tijuca. Absolutely gorgeous, stunning and well worth it. PRO TIP: Either plan to take the public bus that seems to frequently stop outside on the main road or call your Uber once you are at the cafe on your return. Celluar/data reception is available ironically only at the very top and at the cafe. Once you walk down the driveway, you'll be out of signal until you walk on the highway road back down the hill for at least 1.5 miles. It's a windy road and the vehicles come whipping around. In our case, we waiting until we were on the road to call Uber and then had zero luck. The cars canceled one right after the other and cellular reception would come and go. Thankfully a city bus passed by and the friendly driver allowed us on even though we had no cash on us.

Nattrip arranged for the guide/driver Eduardo La Pasta to pick us up at our hotel and drive us up 1600 ft to the start of the trail. The mile-long hiking trail led us up to 2300 ft in less than an hour; along the path, our guide even spotted a huge sloth way up on its tree! And then we were at the top of the Pedra Bonita: what a view! Stayed for an hour, Eduado naming us all the breathtaking sites. We are way past 60, and it took us some extra breath up and knee control down. On the way back we stopped at the Mirante das Canoas. A plus was that we took the trail early Monday morning, very few tourists.

Is this hike possible without a guide? (Is the trail marked? Is it safe?) Is there an admission fee to the park?
