Definitely sign up for a tour - it's the only way to get a sense of the scale
We did a tour through Viator. Our guide was Jim & he is simply amazing. He gave us soooo much background information & he brought many of the people "back to life" for us. He has insightful stories about lots of the headstones, the people & the changing of the guard ceremony. Don't even think about a visit without scheduling a guide. We highly recommend a walking tour.

Don't do it. Take a walk instead.
We took the tram because we had a few seniors in our group, but I wish I had allocated more time to walk instead of riding. The tram gives you a couple of notes between its three stops. You can get a lot more than that by using the free brochure from the visitor's center and walking your own path. In addition to the sites pointed out in the brochure you will recognize many others of note that would fill volumes more than the brochure. And the changing of the guard and Kennedy sites, which two of the three stops for the tram, are free (as are all burial sites) anyway so you can see those at your pleasure in your walk.

Best way to see Arlington Cemetery in about 1/2 day
The tram took us to the 4 stops available at the time including JFK, tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Arlington House. The drivers, guide, and staff were all friendly and helpful. The narration during the tour was very informative. We qualified for the no-charge handicapped tickets for two by showing our vehicle parking placard. ANC is a very large area, and this is the best option for seeing it all without having to walk several miles through the maze of roads. It is probably best to get there by Noon to see everything without having to rush as there can be a 10-30 minute wait for the next tram. Definitely recommended.

    Makes you think
This tour was more for my benefit, having served. But my family really quite enjoyed the tour as well. Remember it’s not an attraction it’s a cemetery. Was very respectfully done paying due homage to the over 400 000 souls there. Great tour guide but a shame the weather was soo bad!!!

    Tour bus!
Take the blue line metro to the Arlington Cemetery stop. Cemetery bus tour runs about $15 per person and is well worth it (sit on Jeff’s bus - for an informative tour). Visit JFK’s gravesite/eternal flame, tomb of the unknown soldier, and the Iwo Jima memorial. The visit provides one with an appreciation of the sacrifices and services of individuals who made this country a shiny beacon of freedom and civil liberties for people from across the world. After taking in the visitors’ center - walk across the Arlington Memorial bridge over the Potomac River to visit the Korean Veterans/Vietnam/Lincoln Memorial. Stroll along the Reflecting Pool and end the afternoon at the WW2 Memorial.

    Amazing Arlington
The sheer size of this cemetery is daunting. Solemn and beautiful. The changing of the guards ceremony well worth attending at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. Very moving tribute to our fallen heroes. Area easily accessible by subway system. We walked over but advise using the subway. The bridge over is currently under refurbishing and is a bit tricky to get to and noisy to cross. Signs indicate two additional years for the project.

    Patriotic and Reverent
It’s not difficult to be silent at the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. It commands respect. Watching the changing of the guard infuses patriotism and appreciation into the experience as you watch the precision and great care taken by the guards. The tour offered by ANC is really nice if you don’t want to walk a lot. It shuttles you around to various spots where you can get on and off and look around the area as long as you’d like.

I don't know how to review this but if ever in Washington area it's a must see. The changing of the guard is breath taking. To see this in front of your eyes is beyond words. To see the alignment of headstones spread out before you. To see the sacrifices of men and women it's just chilling. Everyone should see this one time in their life

    Must do in Washington Dc
If you are visiting Washington Dc you must Visit here. An amazing and emotional place. The changing of the gaurd at the tomb of the unknown soldier is a an incredible precise and solemn moment. The grounds are immaculate and the memorials are beautiful. We rode the subway there which has a station right outside the cemetery.

Went on road train around cemetery. Saw important graves. It’s a get off get on train it stops 4 places of interest around the cemetery. Be aware cemetery closes at 4. We went in about 2 and didn’t have time for last two stops. So allow plenty of time. Changing of the guard at the unknown soldier memorial extremely moving.

    Wonderful Tour
Taking the shuttle is well work the money. To be able to hop on and hop off makes touring so much easier. The people are extremely friendly and informative. The shuttles run like clockwork. We were lucky enough to get there for the changing of the guards. Definitely put this on your list to see.

    So impressive!
I don’t know how I should describe this place, it is so pretty, but sad at the same time. However if you go, respect the cemetery, enjoy the view, learn the story. Better to go in the morning. Also wait to see for a little ceremony at the unknown solider monument.

    Must visit in Washington
Great place to visit. We used trolly tour to cut down on walking. The tour guides provided lot of information going from one stop to the next. I our trolley driver went down road that was closed off and we were stuck. The tour was quick to respond and got us on our way. We were held up maybe 15 minutes but tour guide provide more information about cemetery. Now we have great story to tell about our trip. Changing of Guard for Unknown Soldier graves was very impressive.

Takes your breath away - best way to visit this solemn ground
My hats off to the men and women who perform these tours, and their dedication. I took the tour last week while I was visiting the DC area for business, and I am so glad I took this tour. It made my experience tailored to what I wanted to see, pointed out the things I did not know and saved time! Best tour in DC

The only good thing about the tour is the ride to the top of the hill for the changing of the guard. After the changing of the guard, which had at least 3 tour bus loads of guests, the line to get back on was ridiculous and a bus only shows up every 15-20 minutes. Our older friends waited in line and got on the 4th bus after an hour. The rest of us walked down the hill and boarded the subway for the Museum of Natural History. An hour and 45 minutes later our older friends showed up exhausted and exasperated. If it is worth $15 per person for a ride to the top of the hill, then do it, if not, don't bother.

We paid $37 for what amounted to a ride to the JFK gravesite. They said they were going to come back in 30 minutes and it was over an hour and they still hadn’t come back. By the time we walked back down the hill they were gone and already had our money. Save your money and walk to the top yourself. It was a waste of money and left a bad taste in our mouth.

For one you did not have a staff member at the house, people just kept passing line so we sat in the heat FOREVER!!! I thought someone was supposed to be there regulating!! For 2 one of the tour guides was incredibly rude, demeaning & scolded us in front of a whole stopped tram for absolutely no reason!!! The front seat was open we were literally the only people at the stop when we tried to board she started yelling "excuse me I'm speaking to you over & over only to say that was a handicap seat (which it wasn't) and that if we didn't get off at the next stop & it was needed we would have to move. She could have told us that without all the unnecessary humiliation and it was not a handicap seat anyway. She needs hospitality training, and you should have someone directing who gets one in what order at all stops

The Arlington Hop off Hop on tour was amazing. They have many trams circling the cemetery. While on route to a stop, you get a detailed explanation of what you are looking at. When you get to a stop, you get off and have time to roam around and then get back onto the tram and go to the next stop. To tour the Cemetery, you might need roughly about 3 hours
We will definitely be going back and using the Hop on Hop off tour.
The only different thing we would do would be get to the Cemetery earlier. Like that, we can go back to DC and have enough time to visit another venue.

This is a very nice way to see the grounds of the cemetary at a very reasonable price. If it's information and facts you want to learn about the cemetary, however, I would choose another tour. Although they gave you information, they talk so fast, before you turn to see one point of interest they've already gone onto two more. You can hop on and off as you please which is a plus....

Hello, The Arlington National Cemetery is an active cemetery that conducts 30-40 funerals per day. Portions of our tour route may be closed at certain times of the day in order for the funeral services to be conducted with the respect they are due. There are usually printed schedules that include route changes, due to services, located around the box office area. We apologize for any inconvenience. We offer a satisfaction guarantee located on our website.

What an amazing place to tour. The cemetery is huge, I couldn't imagine doing the walking tour especially on the hot and humid day we had our tour. Very informative and lots of great history. Glad we booked this tour. BUT we had a horrible experience waiting for the trolly to pick us up at the Arlington house. We waited over 45 minutes and there were alot of people waiting for the trolly. There was no employee there to assist with managing the line and informing people where the line starts so there was chaos and anger when once the trolly arrives. Two trollys arrives and the employees were giving conflicting instructions to us which made people even more upset. Mind you, it was HOT and HUMID so that made it even worse. One of the employees was very unprofessional, was raising her voice at us and had a bad attitude. Did I say it was hot and humid? So they need to improve upon that and ensure that their trolleys come in a timely manner.

This is the perfect way to tour Arlington. The busses come by every fifteen minutes which allows you as much time as you want at each stop, while saving you extended walking. It was especially appreciated on the day we toured as it rained the entire time. The guides were very helpful and informative. We’ll definitely do this again.

Very very expensive. $20 per person adds up a lot for a family of 4. Unfortunately there is no other option to visit the cemetery during the summer because it’s huge and it’s hot. The trolley would take you up the hill which is great. But too pricey. I understand it’s not only a Lyft but it’s also guided and they provide us with information/history of the place but I could pay my daughter to read me the info on Wikipedia.
