    Exceeded Expectations!
The tour with Jim was more than we expected. We couldn't have asked for a better experience since we are getting to know the area. The food selections and history lessons helped us understand the community better. We couldn't have asked for a better guide and he truly exceeded our expectations! Thank you Jim!

Monuments are great, but DC has some great food!!!
Ben's Chili Bowl has such a great history and so many famous people have been there. I have never tried Etheopian food and it was amazing and I want to try again. The Cuban pastry was my favorite and so good and the local ice cream shope was a great way to end the tour. Jim was an amazing tour guied and gave us so many other recommendations at the end of our tour!

    Excellent Food Tour
Best food tour I have been on! Rasheed is awesome! He was knowledgeable, so friendly and had great energy. We went to 4 restaurants, they give you huge portions unlike any other food your I’ve been on… and everything was delicious. They also support minority and female owned businesses. Highly recommend Blue Fern and Rasheed.

Vibrant neighborhood and taste of local food!
Such an a vibrant neighborhood. Our guide was super informative and invested in making sure everyone had an amazing experience. Ben’s Chili dogs were excellent. Cuban pastry was absolutely delicious. Although the Ethiopian food was yummy, restaurant had dirty tables and staff there seemed indifferent to a good customer experience. So much history and an overall great experience!

Great way to learn a bit of history and enjoy diverse foods!
Loved our tour guide, our stops, the cuisine, and the knowledge we gained along the way. Overall, I enjoyed this, but I do have one major complaint which I hope can be improved upon after this review. I LOVE Ethiopian food and planned to make reservations during our trip at one of the many Ethiopian restaurants DC has to offer on our trip. But, after learning that this was cuisine we would get to enjoy on this tour, I decided to allow this tour to give us our "fix." Unfortunately, I had one bite and my fiancé had none. This was a massive disappointment. The restaurant choice I'm sure was fantastic and the food looked divine. But, the way it was served was extremely unappealing. The food was served on one plate for 5 strangers to share by eating with their fingers only. Now, I'm Indian so I have no issue eating with my hands. I grew up like this... BUT I ALWAYS HAD MY OWN PLATE!!! When the food was placed in the center of the table, the 5 of us all looked around at each other and the guide. The guide said "dig in!!!" I knew exactly what was going to happen so I went first and took a piece of the injera and used it scoop some lentils and put it in my mouth. Of course, it is nearly impossible not to put your fingers in you mouth or lick your fingers when eating with your hands and that's just what happened. So... out of respect, I did not put my germy fingers back into the food that everyone else was eating. My fiancé was disgusted and didn't eat any. Two of the girls took a couple of bites and one of the girls' jacket sleeves dragged into the food while she was getting a bite. Gag. And then one lucky lady was able to dominate the plate. She went buck wild with bite after bite all while licking her fingers after every single bite! This truly changed the tour for me. Like.... WHY???? Especially in this day and age, why are exchanging germs like this with complete strangers without disclosing in advance that this was going to happen. Had I known, I would NOT have paid $100 for this tour. The one food out of 4 which I was most excited about, I didn't get to enjoy. So, if they can start serving individual portions of the Ethiopian dish, I would say this tour was perfect and worth every penny. But for us, it was a very expensive chili dog, ice cream (which I also did not eat because it was 30 degrees, but no one can help that and it was my choice to avoid being MORE cold), and cuban pastry. Also, I had read that the guests could choose their pastry at the colada shop, but our tour guide did not give us that option. He ordered the most boring and basic one. That was also sad. He said he had only been with company for 2 months, so maybe that was it. Or maybe it was cold and crowded and he didn't want to deal with asking 5 people what they preferred. Either way, I did enjoy the history and the chili dog, but there is room for improvement in my opinion.

Incorporates history and culture together with food
Great tour that incorporates history and culture together with food. The food choices are all very different but all compliment each other together well. I would definitely recommend this tour! Jim was extremely knowledgeable and a great tour guide, thank you! Although not required, be sure to tip your guide :)

    Great food tour
I was given two tickets as a gift and it was awesome. We had the tour guide Jim who did a great job of exposing the food and history of U street. Highly recommend if you live in the area or are just visiting.

We have been to Alexandria before but we have never done a tour. We couldn’t believe all of the hidden gems we learned about on this tour. We were able to see Alexandria in a completely different way! We had an amazing time with our guide, Katie! Everything about this tour was well planned and timed just right. We didn’t feel rushed or hurried between stops. We loved that we were able to eat outside at carefully chosen places with historical significance. The tastings were delicious and we learned many interesting tid bits of history about Alexandria as we went from stop to stop. Can’t wait to try the U Street tour!

Thank you for joining us and for taking the time to share your experience. We really appreciate it! So glad that you enjoyed your tour with Katie. It's our mission to connect the stories of the tasting to the neighborhood so I'm glad it sounds like we accomplished that goal. We'll look forward to seeing you again on U St!

Joined family from out of town on this food tour of Old Town Alexandria. We benefited from great weather--perfect for the experience--and had enjoyable walk through old town. Stopping at five sites for food/beverage (good beer in my case!), and hearing about the history of many interesting sites such as Christchurch, Carlyle House, Torpedo Factory, etc. It's a great way to introduce yourself to a city or to enjoy time with family. Great job by the guide Zach as well; informative and engaging. I'll look into other DC Food Tour experiences.

We had a fantastic time on this food tour, not only did we have delicious food (biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles.. the rest is a surprise) but we also learned a lot about Old Town's history. Our guide/ founder Mary was personable and had a lot of interesting knowledge about the area. Our group really loved the experience and we fell in love with the town! Highly recommend the tour.

Scott was great on the U street tour with a wide range of tastes from tradition Ethiopian - first time and now one of my favs - empanadas, coloda, famous chilli and much much more. New innovative chefs with great stories about their heritage, their message, their cause and passion for food. Murials told the story of the blues and the fight for rights that was very moving.
Mary took us through Old Town Alexandria on an absolutely fun and informative gourmet adventure with unique tastes, creative dishes and incredible stories of the food and culture in DC and old town. From amazing tea cakes we all craved for the bext day, best ever chicken and waffles and then came the fabulous megarolls.
All Carpe tours left us comfortably full of delicious food, new flavour favourites and wide smiles. We have done food tours all over, NYC, Boston, Barcelona, Melbourne, etc. and Carpe is one of the best and would recommend them without question - just too much delicious fun by well informed professional guides who go out of their way to make your day.

We had a great tour with Sara as our tour guide. This is a great way to see and learn about Old Town, and to taste some of the local fare. We ended up returning to Union Street for dinner the next night and to Nice Cream (again) for dessert!
