This was hands down one of the best tours we’ve ever been on. The perfect mix of culture, history, and incredible food made it such a memorable experience. Our guide, Steve, was truly fantastic. His deep knowledge of Kuala Lumpur’s history, culture, and food scene made the tour so engaging and insightful. On top of that, he gave us some amazing tips for shopping, museums, and temples that have really enhanced the rest of our trip. As for the food—wow! Every stop was a culinary adventure, with generous portions and a great variety of dishes to try. My personal favorites were the chicken rice and the pancakes, but every dish was delicious. If you’re visiting KL, this tour is an absolute must. Thank you, Steve, for such an unforgettable experience!Written December 28, 2024

Kiran was absolutely amazing as our tour guide! We started by tasting exquisite local fruits like mangostene, family of litchis, even the creepy ol’ durian! Kiran was so open and motivating that I just had to, for the first time in my life, actually try durian with her and my tour gang.
We learned more about ingredients like Pandan leaves, ginger families, chilli families, poultry, meats, fish, etc.
What locals like to do and what (and even who) the locals hate.
We had Mee goreng mama at the famous restaurant where we also made our own Roti Bakers (although mine turned out to VE very crappy shaped but absolutely delicious :D)
We tried Cendol (from the most famous cendol shop in all of KL), and Puta Bambu (which was such a simple and such a good dessert).
The lady who cooks the beef burger was so amazing that we all decided to come back the next day to have her burgers again! Would recommend the tour guys to actually include this on the menu.
Then we had more food like Asam Laksa, a local Beef broth dish, an experiment fishy soupy noodles dish, then Indonesian and Malaysia satays.
My absolutely favourite was the banana leaf wrapped smoked mackerel fish with that Lemongrass sauce (ohh man, I dream about that dish even till now). My mouth is watering as I write this review!
We tried the Otak Otak - another type of leaf wrapped red chutney fish.
And finally the grand old Nasi Lemak and mango juice.
Throughout the tour, Kiran not only explained about the food but also the culture, the history of each location that we passed, her own memories of different food that she has, the politics of the country, etc. By the end of the tour, not only were we all acquainted with the food of Malaysia, but also the sentiments and culture of malaysia.
She literally told us about the cost of living, healthcare setup and also educational institutions. It was sooo great to get the tour by such a passionate and intelligent local-ite who thinks so deeply about her country!
I went solo for this trip but by the end of it, the group became one big food family. We all came from different countries, different backgrounds but became one big happy tummy filled family by the end of it.
I depart KL with sweet memories!!!

The tour started with some heavy rain, nonetheless this did not discourage our tour guide Kiran who welcomed us with rain ponchos and a very positive approach. Kiran was such an amazing tour guide and a big foodie lover. She explained history of Malaysian food, food making and other curiosities about the city with a lot of details and love for her city. Thanks to her we saw a side of Kuala Lumpur which tourists neglet. She is very supportive of local genuine street food cuisine, and it shows that locals love her very much too. After a four hours non-stop eating of delicious food, we ended the tour at a landmark spot where we could take a memorable picture with the Petronas towers in the background. We highly recommend this tour if you are a foodie lover in search of authentic local food.

Amazing Food! Our guide Steve was a former chef and restaurant owner. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the food we sampled and the preparation methods. Each place we stopped at was expecting us (I believe he made reservations in advance) and we even made (and ate) our own roti bread at one restaurant. Everything was clean and we felt safe during our tour. Steve even went out of his way to get us drinks we were not expecting (iced coffee, fresh coconut juice, mango smoothies, etc...) I highly recommend this tour and Steve as your guide!

I did this tour on my first day in Malaysia which was a seriously good decision. Not only did I learn loads about the country's culture, I was bolstered with the confidence to order the best dishes for the rest of my time here.
For starters, the food was sensational. Each dish added a little bit to the story of Malaysia's rich and varied history and culture whilst offering spectacular and varied tastes.
This would have been enough but on top of that our guide, Kiran, was fantastic. She was informative, engaging, entertaining and deftly adapted the tour to suit the vibe of the group!
I met really lovely people as well which was a bonus as a solo traveler.
Overall, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting KL who fancies a tasty morsel (i.e. everyone!!)
Thanks, Kiran. You are fabulous! 🤩

This was one of my favourite things to do in KL. We met Siddoz, a larger than life and knowledgeable guide, on a food discovery of all the cuisines that make Malaysia such an interesting blend of cultures and history. Delicious food throughout, and an interesting route in Chow Kit, the old Malay neighbourhood that feels untouched by tourists. The locals in the street food scene were gracious and kind. A Chef's Tour put together a great itinerary with lots of varied dishes. I learnt a lot, and ate a lot! Thanks for a great time, I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Many thanks to Steve for a fantastic food tour.
We met near the Hilton Garden Hotel and immediately started sampling different fruits before heading for a restaurant where we all made our own rotis with varying success.
We also sampled durian fruit, barbecued mackerel, satay, chicken and some delicious deserts and drinks in different restaurants and street vendors.
We finished up just in front of the Petronas tours with beautiful views in the night sky all feeling very replete!

This is my first ever food tour, and I had a blast. Our guide Stephen introduced us to the scrumptious foods adored by the people of Kuala Lumpur, while providing us a great lesson on the history, culture and traditions of this remarkable city. The food was amazing and our stomachs were filled to the brim at the end of it. On our second stop, we also unexpectedly got chance to make our own Roti, and that too was fun. Overall, I would recommend this tour to anyone, even if you aren’t a foodie like me, because its such a grounded and interactive experience, and of course, the food was delicious.

Stephen was a superb food guide. Giving us not only insight on every plate and drink but also letting us see the process for most of them, and we got to help make 1 of the dishes ourselves. I arrived on time, and he let me do the first place by myself since the others were past the grace period time. It was also pouring for just the first 10 minutes, but he continued with showing me the first location, asking me if I was okay with the rain. Luckily, he kept in contact with the rest of the group, and they made it in time for the second location. We went through MANY dishes and got to support locals in the process. If you have an appetite, I definitely recommend this tour. If you want a taste of little of everything in Kuala Lumpur, this tour is also for you. He made us feel comfortable leaving food if we were full or wanted to save space for the next plate. This tour is a must for first-time travelers to Kuala Lumpur.

Our guide, Kiran, was exceptional in every way. Her passion for Kuala Lumpur's history and culture was evident. Her personal anecdotes and insights brought the city to life, making the experience feel more like a visit with a friend than a guided tour.
The food itself was incredible. We sampled a variety of local delicacies, each more delicious than the last. Kiran's knowledge of the dishes and their origins was impressive, and she was always happy to answer our questions.
Beyond the food and history, what truly set this tour apart was Kiran's care for the participants. She went out of her way to ensure that everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. Her attention to detail and genuine kindness made the experience even more memorable.
If you're looking for an authentic and unforgettable experience in Kuala Lumpur, I highly recommend this food tasting tour!!!

We started with a taster of Malaysian fruit and then did a progressive meal tasting signature dishes from Malaysia. O enjoyed the curated selection of dishes. You definitely want to have an empty stomach when you start the tour, and even so, I could only eat small parts towards the end. It felt a shame to leave food when it was so delicious, but I did not want to overeat.
Our guide, Sam, was very informed about the food culture and history of Malaysia. I learned so much from him, and he was able to answer all my questions.
I highly recommend this tour as you get taken to local restaurants that you would pass by as a tourist.

Curious what time the food tour begins?

It starts at 5pm and there’s a meeting place. It might be difficult to join it later unless you know the back streets of KL.

Written January 17, 2025
It starts at 5pm. It needs to start on time as it is about 4 1/2 hours. It’s not flexible and it’s not possible to catch up with everyone once it starts.
