    Kuala Lumpur street food tour
We had a wonderful street food tour of KL Chinatown with Danny Ng. He was very knowledgeable and showed us many places and food items that were so new and fun. Danny is very friendly and kind and we appreciated everything he showed us. Highly recommended.

The tour host made this tour great.
We are going to give 5 stars for the quality of our host/guide Danny Ng. He was awesome, kind and we had him all to ourselves as a family unit. The tour itself was recommended through Dive into Malaysia which gave a voucher, but the site didn’t accept the voucher. We booked in any case and the service with Danny was a highlight. I don’t know how other like like tours compares so cannot comment. Hope to see you again Danny!

I would give 6 stars if I could
We had the most AMAZING food tour with Wei Shen this morning. We cannot recommend these guys enough. When you’re travelling with kids (aged 8 & 10) it’s often difficult to try all the food you want to because you have to accommodate their less than adventurous tastes. Doing this food tour took us into all the nooks and crannies of George Town that we would never have found on our own and meant we could really understand and appreciate why this town is so famous for its food. Having someone tell us what to order, the origin of the food and the history of the area as we walked around gave us an invaluable insight into this fabulous place and our time in George Town has been enriched by this experience. We will also eat better for the rest of our time in Malaysia thanks to being given a list of everything we tried after the tour. Thank you to Wei Shen who was supremely professional as well as wonderfully friendly. We wish you all the best and will recommend this tour to everyone we meet.

Great food and drinks in Kuala Lumpur
Fantastic tour that took us to some hidden gems in Kuala Lumpur. We discovered fantastic little speakeasy’s and great food spots. The highlight was a street food dinner in Chinatown that was incredibly good. Would highly recommend.

    Amazing food tour in Penang
We just finished an amazing food tour in Georgetown, Penang. We tried a fabulous range of food and also learned so much about the history of the area. Our guide was funny, charming and so knowledgeable. It was a great easy way to learn all about the local area. I cannot recommend it enough.

    Eat Drink Georgetown
Eat drink Georgetown is a gastronomical delight. Four hours of eating and strolling through Georgetown with our attentive and caring tour guide Ron passed quickly, as Ron entertained us with historical and highly interesting facts about Penang. You have the opportunity to sample a variety of foods that Penang has to offer - so make sure you go on a very empty stomach or you’ll be struggling to keep up.

If you do just one tour in KL, I recommend this one!
This tour was one of the highlights of my trip to KL. To combine street food, cocktails and street art if pure genius! Our guide, Danny was super friendly and informative, both on the history of KL and great places to visit. We never would have found the hidden bars without him. Danny also gave us great recommendations for places to go on the remainder of our trip. If you do just one tour in KL, I recommend this one!

Fantastic Food, Guides And Experiences In Both KL And Penang Tours
In the last week, I have taken the Eat Drink George Town tour with Lee and KL Street Food with Pauline. My three kids (6,11 and 12) also joined me on the latter tour. They were both so fantastic with so much food to taste. We ended up tasting over 30 different types of food on the KL Street Food Tour. My kids were happy and we all learned a lot. On this tour, I especially appreciated watching the local vendors make delicious food the traditional way and being able to hear their stories and ask questions. In George Town, there was a fair bit of sightseeing as well and i especially enjoyed the mosque tour. Both guides and tours were top-rate and I look forward to trying more of their tours when I'm back in Malaysia.

    Great tour with great guide
We did a tour in Georgetown called Eat Drink Georgetown. We went on a private tour with a guide called Su Li. She was terrific. Informative, attentive and very good fun. She took us to places we had not been to before and was most informative about the history of the place and the history of the food.

    A delicious experience
We had a great morning exploring Chinatown with Pauline. She took us on a mouth-watering journey, stopping at different food stalls to try local delicacies. We finished our tour with a happy stomach and tons of knowledge about the local area and cuisine.

    Food, fun ..and information!
If you are lucky enough to have Teoh as your guide you are in for a fantastic tour...his knowledge of the history and locations around Georgetown is incredible and we had the most amazing late afternoon and early evening in his company with some terrific local foods too. There were just the 2 of us on this trip which was great..for us and possibly for Teoh also as he was able to interact with us both very well. Come with comfortable shoes, an open mind prepared to try different foods...and an empty stomach...thank you Teoh from Helen and Stan

    Simply Excellent
This was our third Simply Enak tour! Danny our guide, was friendly and helpful! It’s the little things that make an outing an adventure! Danny’s strength was definitely his food knowledge of the ingredients from market to culinary applications! Danny described how each ingredient was used in a dish and why! We looked, we touched and we tasted! The tour was more than food - he gave running commentary on the heritage and history of the area! Once again Simply Excellent!

    Successful culinary discovery
We are an elderly French-German couple whose 80 year old man has difficulty walking and wanted to go on a culinary tour of the historic centre of Penang in Georgetown yesterday 23 February. We hired Simply Enak because of the good reviews we read on Tripadvisor about this organisation and they proved to be quite justified as the tour was a success. A lot thanks to our guide Suraiya who proved to be a perfect person for us because of her very good level of English which we could understand, her kindness, her calmness, her patience and because she knew how to adopt the right walking speed. Moreover, we were able to take advantage of the historical explanations she gave about the areas we visited and some of the monuments and buildings we passed. Not to mention the restaurants she showed us, where we really enjoyed the food and where we will probably return next time. Thank you very much then to Simply Enak and to Suraiya as well.

Jasmin is a perfect tour leader for our day in Chinatown! The selected food was traditional and explained clearly! The standard was high! Jasmin gave the history of the tasty offerings, could explain each plate and ordered to our spice preferences!

We enjoyed laughs and smiles, while heading to secret behind the streets food adventures! We could taste and enjoy the aromas of freshly cooked wonders!

A perfect day with a perfect guide!

Thank you!

Our Food Trail guide was Jasmin. We love the way she made us feel welcome. She listens carefully and then communicates if she thinks food choices need to be adjusted. The stories she tells during our walks from A to B were both interesting as entertaining.

The driver that was supposed to pick us up had to run another errand and had asked his colleague to pick us up. Jasmin checked a few times with the driver to make sure we were in good hands. So thoughtful of her to do that.

We will certainly talk about all the interesting details she shared with us for a very long time.

Dec 2019
We enjoyed our “Flavors of Malaysia (Off the Beaten Track)” tour with Ezy in December 2019. We had wanted to visit the Chow Kit Market and so doing a guided tour in this area seemed like a great way to go. We’ve done other food tours in Asia (including the “Eat Drink George Town” tour also with Simply Enak), and they’ve been a great way to try lots of delicious local food and spend less time figuring out where to go, what to order, and/or dealing with language challenges.

Ezy is a wonderful guide. She knows a phenomenal amount about all the food, as well as Malaysian history past and present. I loved how she took us to so many little stalls and stands. Some food highlights: chili pork noodles, chicken rendang, fried banana, fresh iced coconut juice with slices of coconut in it, and a crepe-like taco-like thing with a sweet peanut sauce inside (more about that in a minute).

Although this is a walking tour, you cover a couple really cool neighborhoods: the Chow Kit Market area, as well as Kampung Baru. Both neighborhoods have tons of character and haven’t been reduced to endless skyscrapers and shopping malls. (We hope that they can somehow remain that way). In between the 2 neighborhoods, you walk through an area with some traditional Malay houses on stilts. I love markets, so it was so fun to walk through the expanse of Chow Kit and see everything under the sun for sale: herb tonics for a number of ailments, all kinds of street food carts and stalls, fruit and vegetables, chickens, seafood, etc. Kampung Baru has a few large streets with all kinds of food for sale. We stopped at a place that had so many kinds of chicken with delicious sauces: sambal chicken, fried chicken (coated with tons of herbs and spices), chicken rendang, etc. When we were walking after that, I saw a vendor with a cart making something that looked like a crepe that had a dollop of peanut sauce on the inside and was folded like a taco. I was curious about it, so Ezy got a couple for us. It was delicious! It’s too bad I have no idea what this dessert is called. If you see it, you must try it.

You meet the tour guide at the Chow Kit monorail station, which makes it easy.

We met Eez and immediately connected with her fun and informative narrative on the history of KL. We walked around the locality trying everyday food eaten by locals in everyday places. We certainly wouldn’t have found these on our own, and we were made welcome at each one, clearly Eez was well liked. Visiting the markets was a highlight with the added bonus of seeing & trying new fruits and veg, and then touring the meat and fish markets. These markets showed us how the Malaysians, Indians and Chinese all live, eat and work in harmony. If discovering new foods eaten by locals is your thing then don’t miss this lively, energetic and delicious tour!

This was the perfect start to our Malaysian holiday! Danny was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and was a great communicator. We learnt all sorts of history and stories we’d never have known had we just been walking around. Danny’s passion for KL and Malaysian food was palpable. Highly recommend!

'Simply Enak' really lived up to its name: Enak means delicious in Malay. I went on the tour to Chow Kit, and was really surprised how many fantastic things there were to see and eat all in the one district, and so close to central KL!

Unfortunately the other participants in the tour turned up around an hour late (this was more frustrating to the guide than it was to me!) that was one of those unfortunate things no-one can do much about. When they arrived we headed promptly to Chow Kit market, working our way through the labyrinth of stalls and stopping to eat along the way. We tried absolutely delicious chicken and beef kebabs/skewers, and a corn-and-peanut pancake that tasted far better than I've ever had corn or peanuts before.

Some of the fresh food (produce, meat) stalls had closed by the time we got there, but we did get to see a man blowtorching a buffalo hide. Unexpected but interesting. After the market, there was lots of wandering through the backstreets to various restaurants. Yummy pork noodles (Chinese) was followed by roti and curry at a Mamak (Indian), and then a stroll through more markets (tasting a few fruits along the way I'd never seen before), and finishing with one of my favourite dishes of all: Rendang! (Malaysian Curry). Wish nasi lemak, of course.

At the end of the evening I was feeling rather full, but it didn't feel like I'd eaten myself sick. It was a good amount of food, and the walking between places helped with the digestion was well as making it an enjoyable sight-seeing journey as well as food tour.

The guide was fantastic too!

We have a fascination with food touring, and have done many around the world. When we found Simply Enak on TA we were thrilled at the chance to see the culture of Malaysian food in KL. This was our first visit to Malaysia and it was a most pleasant introduction into the culture and the food.

Our guide Alex met us at Chow Kit (which is super easy to get to by monorail) and we started off through the stalls of the market. We were the only Westerners in site for the duration of the tour, we were certainly eating off the beaten track! We enjoyed all things local and interesting, and Alex rose to the challenge of finding options for me, a strict vegetarian. And trust me, I certainly didn't go hungry, quite the opposite!

We love tours that don't necessarily have set stops and set schedules to follow. Alex knew some of the places that he wanted to take us but he also stopped along the way if there was something that looked different or if we had questions about something we'd never seen before. We tasted all kinds of treats, fruits, food on sticks that we might not otherwise have tried if someone hadn't been telling us about what they all were.

We also appreciated the history and culture that Alex shared with us. We ended up having comfortable conversations about life in KL vs. feeling like we were getting a rehearsed speech from a tour guide.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience, and one that we were quick to tell others about as we met people in various points of interest in KL!

Great experience touring the wet market of Chow Kit, sampling the delights of Malaysia cuisine and generally getting a truly local Malaysian experience. Thanks Pauline!
P.s. Make sure you leave enough room for Kin Kin Pan Mee. It's worth it!
