Osaka Dotonbori Daytime Food Tour

By Arigato Japan Food Tours
About
Enjoy the best of Osaka's famous street food and hidden back alleys on this 3-hour Osaka Food Tour in the famous foodie neighborhood of Dotonbori & Namba! Experience an unforgettable stroll through the historical food streets of Osaka and eat like a local in the city known as “Japan’s Kitchen.” Your local expert will take you on an unforgettable eating excursion through the busy streets and the hidden, less frequented parts of South Osaka. The tour kicks off in the busy Dōtonbori area where we will learn about Glico man, a Filipino sprinter named Fortunato Catalon who inspired a nation and a company! Similar to Shibuya (its counterpart in Tokyo) the sights and sounds of Dōtonbori often lead you astray to overly-commercialised restaurants with queues of tourists outside. We want to take our guests to places they would certainly miss without local guidance. We will take secret alleys not long after we begin the tour toward the shrine hidden from sight for the average passerby.

    Flavours of Shinjuku
I really enjoyed this gastronomic tour. Sandra, our tour guide, was amazing and explained to us the diversity of the street food in Shinjuku. She showed us many different hidden restaurants in Shinjuku, where I found my new favorite ramen in Japan. And we finished our tour in a tiny bar and played karaoke with local people.

    Most enjoyable tour of Fushimi.
The Kyoto sake/brewery tour of Fushimi lead by Sae was terrific. She is vivacious, knowledgeable and courteous. The competent efficient way in which she conducted the group was enjoyable and informative. Great job. Take this tour.

Great food tour experience to get a taste of Tokyo
We had Osmar as our guide and he was WONDERFUL. It was just me and my husband for our tour which was really nice since we really got to talk with the tour guide and ask any questions that we wanted. Osmar was very knowledgeable and we had a great time learning from him. The tour flew by. But by the end, you will be full. We started with a walking tour around some Omoide Yokocho, and Osmar gave us some history of the area. We then stopped at our first location and tried several different types of skewers, everything was delicious. Then we walked more towards the main area where the host clubs are, and learned some more about the area before making our 2nd stop for some sushi. The sushi was phenomenal. Osmar also took us into a pachinko which was really cool to see. Then we made our way to the last stop, which was ramen. The ramen was also wonderful, I was not expecting a full bowl. Lastly, we made our way to Golden Gai, where we got to walk around before having our choice of where to stop for a drink. I was glad there were multiple bathrooms available along the tour since I had been hydrating during the day. It was at our pass since it was just the 2 of us, which was nice compared to other tours we have done. It was really worth it since my husband and I do not speak enough Japanese to have felt comfortable enough to just go into these places on our own. Thank you Osmar! Highly recommend.

    Fantastic food tour in Tokyo
Very fun! And we ate food we would not have tried because we did not know what to order. The guide was very informative and nice. I would recommend this tour to anyone!!

A Sakura family food tour with Daisuke
This tour was the best experience. Daisuke was an amazing guide, with excellent English, very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area and a great sense of humour! We went to all the major scenic/tourist areas such as Kaminarimin, Sensoji temple and Namise street. Daisuke is a videographer and took photos of our family at each spot - and knew where the best photo spots were! The food was delicious for all the family, including a fussy child and a vegetarian. Cannot recommend this tour more highly, it was that good.

Asakusa food tour is definitely worth doing especially if it’s your 1st time in Tokyo
We had an excellent tour with Josh as our guide around Asakusa. We were 2 adults and 3 x 10 year olds and Josh kept everyone engaged. The food we ate was excellent and he catered to the varying tastes of the kids. He was very knowledgeable about Tokyo and all the food we tried.

    Alex is the best
We did a Golden Kai tour and we had a blast. Our fantastic tour guide Alex gave us many many cultural insights about why Japanese do what they do and showed us great food spots. Come hungry because they will feed you many dishes. If you plan a trip to Tokyo definitely book the golden Kai tour with Alex. You’ll have a fun and also informative time.

    Osaka night food tour
A 3 hour tour of Osaka's busy Dotonbori area, Our guide Russ from Arigato Japan Food Tours took us to some of his favourite food restaurants and food stalls which we would not have found ourselves. Along the way we were treated to an insight to Osaka's history and a couple of hidden shrines. We sampled Kushikatsu, Takoyaki , Taiyaki and Ramen. A great evening and would highly recommend it if you were looking for insider knowledge.

Knowledgeable guides, fun atmosphere, and great food!
Yappy and Hana were absolutely amazing! They taught us everything from the origins of traditional dishes, history of each restaurant and it’s area, Japanese food manners and phrases, and much more. They also accommodated my husband’s shellfish allergy to ensure he could indulge at every stop. We truly were showed some of Tokyo’s best hidden gems and would do this tour again any day!

    Exploring Osaka
This was my wife and I first trip to Japan since moving to Okinawa. It was an unbelievable tour. Our guide Sae was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming host and we enjoyed our time exploring and getting to know Osaka. Would definitely recommend this tour!

A great finale to a first trip to Japan
On Monday, September 18 my husband and I ended our 3 week trip to Japan by touring Osaka Nightlife on a private food tour led by Marie. What a wonderful experience. Marie was a treasure and the food was terrific. We tasted things we hadn't had during the rest of our trip and learned about Osaka's version of things like sushi, which was wonderful. We especially enjoyed our meal in an izakaya. Great food and sake and we learned about the izakaya tradition. Five stars to Arigato and Marie.

Avoid if possible. Would NOT recommend
This was an extremely disappointing food tour…we would highly recommend avoiding it! In a city where there are so many delicious restaurants and eateries I can not believe that the stops and bites experienced on this trip were so bad. We booked this tour (although double the price of competitors) because we really wanted to enjoy delicious food, along with insights and background on Tokyo/Japan cultural and history….unfortunately we got neither. This is not the first tour we have experienced while traveling abroad, but it will be the last we experience with this touring company. Instead of the tour, I would highly recommend getting restaurant recommendations from your hotel (there really are so many great spots in Tokyo) and enjoy a few tasty bites for dinner.

    Fun food walk
Went to three restaurants, a good variety of food & the guide was aware of any food restrictions & allergies. Our guide was Noboru. He was always providing information about the food, the sites along the walk and seemed to have a wealth of information. His English was really good & his sense of humor gave us many laughs. A very fun evening & good food.

Miki, our tour guide told us not to take pictures, she would take them all and send them to us after the tour. She did take plenty of pictures but she never sent them to us. I emailed Arigato Travel to inquire about the photos but they never responded. The tour itself was ok, but the missing photos spoiled it for us. We did do another Arigato food tour in Tokyo with Alex and had a great time.

We had a great time on the food tour with Miki our guide. We learned so much about Osaka and an overview of the history of the culture, food and so much more. Our 12 year old had a great time, and it was a highlight of our trip.
