A great half day tour, thanks so much Mayco!
Mayco was a delight. Very informative and knowledgible. The e-bikes were great too and made the cycling quite easy. Would do the full day tour next time we come to Osaka. Well worth the money.

Highly recommended - see some sights and enjoy some local foods
Good food and a great way to see sights in Osaka. Also our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommended. I appreciate that our guide took us to places that he enjoyed, and explained the history of the food and culture.

Cycling tour of Osaka seeing some great art with a super fun and knowledgeable host
Had such a great time on this tour! My husband and I have been to Japan four times now and this was a highlight of every trip! Eric was super friendly and took us to places we would never have found on our own and had such great knowledge of all the pieces of art he showed us. Only suggestion is to offer fixed gear bikes! Haha 😉

Highlight of our trip. MUST DO!!!
Fantastic day out touring the back streets of Osaka and learning about the history of the area and owners at the different venues we went to. Sam and Matt were great hosts, accomodating, down to earth and very knowledgeable, My 2 1/2 yr old daughter absolutely loved it too. Definite highlight for our 2 week holiday in Japan. Highly recommend!!!!

Cycle the streets and immerse yourself in the culture and food
We had a fantastic time riding through the streets of Osaka and sampling from restaurants, markets and tea houses with our guide Matt . He was so knowledgeable and really immersed us in the cuisine and cultural history of the city . Would highly recommend to friends and family.

We absolutely loved this tour! Friendly and informative guide, interesting cycle route past Osaka Castle, through park, visited Korean market. And, most importantly, tried a great variety of fantastic food. Highly recommend

      Perfect Day
What an awesome tour! I had a fantastic time. It was a good balance of outdoors, side streets, great food/drink, cycling and of course street art. A real experience of Osaka. The guide is an experienced local, deeply knowledgable in the scene, with even some works of his own in the area. The bike I had was well maintained, and shifted effortlessly. I have spent a cumulative of 30mins on a bike in the last 7 years, but despite this I had no difficulty keeping up and out of trouble. Thank you for the great time

      Amazing Street Art Bike Tour!!!
What an amzing experience! Erik, the guide for this tour, is actually an artist & painted the first mural on our tour. We had a blast riding throug the streets of Osaka & couldn't believe how much Street Art is out there. We had stops for gourmet drip coffee, snacks at a nearly century old standing bar & awesome NYC style pizza at a super cool pizza parlour thanks to Alex at Hughes Pizza. The terrain was virtually flat so really easy to navigate & Erik knows so much about the art scene and artists is was truly a joy to spend the day with him & learn what he had to share. One of the best bike tours we've ever taken & we've been on quite a few. I highly recommend this tour!!!

      Osaka Street Art Bike Tour
The Street Art Bike tour took us by surprise and over exceeded our expectation. Great way to pedal around streets of Osaka and witness some excellent art work from both local and international artist. To top it off, the guys running it such as Eric speak fluent Japanese( Eric has been living in Japan for years) and well versed with Japanese culture/etiquette which makes the whole tour delightful experience. Bikes are almost new and in excellent condition with couple of stops for refueling the body with drinks along the way. Eric was friendly, funny and is an artist himself. Highly recommend.

Great ride through Osaka’s urban art side
Don’t want to give too much away with this post about Eric’s urban art mural bike tour, but for people who love biking, street art, strong coffee, tachinomis, and @hughespizza you have something incredible planned for a three-hour tour in Osaka.

Amazing bike adventure filled with street art.
I usually take a bike tour when visiting new cities and this was one of my all time favorites. Eric showed us a side of Osaka I wouldn't have found otherwise and expertly weaved together stops to view street art and food/coffee. The day was well paced and covered a lot of ground, but never felt tiring or overly strenuous. Eric is very connected to the street art scene in the city and showed us a wide variety of artist's work, including one piece that was actively in progress.

I did both the 6 hour city tour and the food tour. They are both great and would highly recommend it to other travellers. It’s a great way to explore the city and learn more about the culture and history.

My guide for both tours was Matt and his enthusiasm, knowledge and story telling are top notch, you will be in good hands if you get him as a guide!

First full day in Osaka and an excellent way to see the city. Matt the tour guide was very informative throughout the tour providing information not just on Osaka but Japan in general. Cycle provided was fine, streets were not as busy as expected, so a nice pleasant ride.

Enjoyed my tour in Kyoto so much we booked a tour in Osaka!

Cycle Osaka accommodated the six of us and even had a bicycle with baby seat for a young child.

Great experience and great way to cover a lot of the city in a condensed timeframe. We had a wide range of biking experience and even those who had not ridden in a long time felt comfortable with the pace and route.

I don't usually write a poor review like this. But after waking 4am and getting a very early bullet train, shuffling stations at Osaka, and then waiting excitedly with my go-pro on my wrist for 3/4 hour to be told at 9.50am tour is cancelled due to rain forecast.
At that stage it was overcast. Later in the day there was periodic few drops and light drizzle to be fair from time to time. Overall good enough to cycle in my books. My day was ruined then.

I did another bike tour in Kyoto. The tour guide told me they run the tour regardless of how heavy it rains.

I strongly suspect the real reason for cancellation is because I was the only one booked.
You see I called weeks before to confirm my booking from Australia. The English gentleman who knew who I was, before I even introduced myself (only one booked?) that it might rain on that day??
To be fair, I'm quite sure the tour would be a lot of fun, and a good experience.
But this episode has left a sour taste in my mouth.
I hope this company runs the tour regardless of numbers, but please don't use pretext of light rain as a handy excuse to cancel.

Tip: have a second activity in mind for the day of your cycle tour, because if you're the only one booked you may be disappointed.

I wish I could make a nicer review.

Firstly, I understand that this was very disappointing for you and I am sorry it happened. However, as explained in your confirmation email and on our website, we do not ride in the rain as it is less safe and less fun. Now, there was an 80% heavy rain forecast from lunchtime on the day of your ride. Because of this, we emailed you to cancel the evening before, we also tried to call multiple times on the day of the tour and with no reply, had no choice but to come and deliver the bad news in person and offer to take you out the following day. I promise you were not the only booking that day, just the only one who didn't get the cancellation message. We absolutely have never, and would never used rain as a handy excuse to not take people out because of low numbers, and I think its an unfair accusation to make. Overall, your disappointment is absolutely noted and while we are all really sad to get an undeserved scathing review, life goes on and we wish you nothing but blue skies and sweet tasting happiness in all your future rides and travels. Best wishes, Sam, Mayco and all at Cycle Osaka X

Very professionally organised and state of the art brand new bikes. Mayco was a great guide full of helpful and interesting information. A fun afternoon seeing the sights and sounds of Osaka. I did the half day tour and would recommended to everyone. I also recommend Eat Osaka for an equally enjoyable, professional and fun evening of cooking class.

My husband and I booked Cycle Osaka's half day tour in order to get a good overview of Osaka on the only day we were in town and we were seriously disappointed! To begin, our guide was not at the meeting spot on time. A few minutes after our meeting time, we had to call him on a public phone (thank goodness Japan still has those) and remind him of our tour. Supposedly he had us down for 4 pm instead of 2 pm but our confirmation email was very clear that the meeting time was 2 pm. When we went to pick up the bikes (at the owner's apartment building), our guide asked us to hold the bike cable in our backpack because he forgot his bag (strike two for professionalism.) What's more, I had to wear the backpack for the 3 hour tour because the bikes didn't even have baskets!

We did see a lot of the city on comfortable, brand new bikes but I would hardly call it a tour! Our guide's primary qualifications seemed to be 1) fluent English speaker 2) lives in Osaka. We would pass buildings and he'd be like "Here's the Public Hall" to which we'd reply "What's a Public Hall?" His reply was "I don't really know." When we arrived at Osaka Castle, we biked up to a really lovely scenic view but got ZERO information about the castle, its history, the grounds, etc. That was the general theme of the tour, actually: no information.

Our final complaint is that we didn't feel the guide was a very safe bike rider nor bike tour leader. We've been on bike tours in various cities around the world and the leader usually communicates very clearly which direction you're going to turn, when you will cross the street, which side of the sidewalk to be on to avoid oncoming traffic, etc. but this guide did none of this. We felt unsafe on a few occasions; we were often surprised by quick turns and rushes to cross the street before the cars got to the crosswalk.

All in, I would definitely NOT recommend this tour. For the same money, you can rent bikes all day, buy a guidebook in your preferred language, and probably get yourself a nice lunch. You'd certainly learn a lot more about the city that way

Dear Laura, Firstly let me apologise, I am absolutely gutted that you had a bad experience with Cycle Osaka. Though this is the first complaint we have ever had, the problems you mentioned are inexcusable; please be assured that the guide you had that day is no longer working with us. As the owner of this company, I realise the buck stops with me and therefore if you could get in touch with me at cycleosaka@gmail.com, I would like to try and arrange a full refund for your tour, I know this doesn't make up for the problems you experienced, but I feel its the least I can do. Best Wishes, Sam

I had originally booked a full day bike tour a month and a half in advance for a Monday but a couple days before the date I got an email from the owner of the company, Sam, saying that there's a good chance of rain on the tour date. He offered to reschedule us for Sunday, which would be the next day. The only caveat was that it was a half day afternoon tour. Thankfully our schedule was flexible enough to go for it and I'm glad we did. It was perfect weather for cycling Osaka at 25 degrees and sunny. The day we were originally scheduled for was pouring rain throughout the afternoon and evening. Although disappointed we couldn't do the full day tour, the half day tour was great. What better way to tour the city than how the locals do it? Cycling in Osaka is easy. Pedestrians and motorists are used to it and give you lots of space. Not like back home in North America where cyclists, motorists and pedestrians all fight with each other. We visited a few landmarks and in some places stopped for a short while for Sam to give us tidbits of information about the history and culture of Osaka. After being in Japan and having so many long days on foot, it was fun to cruise around on a bicycle. As Sam has been a local for a while in Osaka, he gave excellent recommendations on where to eat. We took his recommendations before the tour for lunch and after the tour for dinner. Both places didn't speak any English or have English menus and they were some of the best places we ate at in all of Japan. Thanks for the stellar food recommendations. If I ever find myself back in Osaka, I'll be checking out the food tour for sure.

Bikes are everywhere in Osaka. What better way to experience the city than on two wheels? We really lucked out because the weather was gorgeous and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The course and pace were gentle and leisurely. Our guide, Ben, was very knowledgeable and accommodating even though we booked last minute. Our tour included a delicious sushi lunch. With this tour you will get a great overview of the city and decent history lesson. It covers many sites off the beaten path that had few if any tourists. Perhaps the only place you may want to revisit are Osaka Castle and Shinsekai.

Great way to experience much of Osaka at street level. When we first arrived in Osaka, we were a bit taken back at the numerous bicycles everywhere, and the aggressiveness of many of the riders - then we became them! Great fun. My wife and I went on a mid-week all-day tour (6 hours). We are in our 50's and in decent shape, but not really cyclists at all. The bikes were in good condition and after initial adjustments and readjustment at our first stop about 20 minutes into the tour, we were very comfortable. At the predetermined meeting place in a train station our guide was a couple minutes late, perhaps having something to do with 2 people who did not show up for the tour. A young couple from UK and 2 young men from UAE were also there at the station waiting for the tour. One of the great collateral outcomes of the day was getting to know our fellow riders and hear about their homes and travels. Our guide Mayco took charge after giving the no-shows a grace period, taking us on a short walk to pick up the bikes and getting to know us all. Her English was very good, having lived in MT, PA, and NY. She provided water and we made a snack stop towards the end, plus we all signed up for the food option so there were stops for takoyaki, Korean food, and sushi. We followed Mayco across and around the city as she guided us through main streets, back streets, and on sidewalks. We always felt safe, perhaps the most anxiety came twisting through narrow alleys. She explained bikes are allowed on sidewalks in Osaka and we were often on sidewalks. There are bike lanes painted on Osaka's bigger streets, but nobody seems to use them much. We saw several significant city buildings, shrines and temples, and Osaka Castle. Mayco provided narration at each stop about these places. Being only a recreational cyclist at home, I had been reluctant to sign up for an all day tour, but it was truly a great way to be introduced to the city, and our guide and fellow riders were a pleasure to get to know. Our back sides were a little sore by the end of the day, but we would do this tour again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.
