    FABULOUS ENDING TO JAPAN TOUR
We booked the Sumo package before our trip to Japan as they only happen in Tokyo 3 times a year and the trip was booked so that Sumo was on our last full day of the tour. What a great decision it turned out to be! There is nothing more iconic to Japan than Sumo and the occasion more than lived up to our expectations. We booked the tour through Viator in the UK and it was fulfilled in Japan by another company - Japan Awaits who organised the whole thing including our guide Miyako. Everthing happened according to plan including meeting the guide and subsequently exchanging our voucher for actual tickets. We were also given audio equipment to allow us to hear Miyako's explanations of what was happening at any time. It was obvious from the outset that Miyako was a real fan of Sumo and she set about explaining the origins, system of rank and showing us the displays of previous champions and grand masters of the sport. We arrived at our alloted seats with a good view of the arena to the cheers of an enthusiastic crowd for the bouts of the lower ranked wrestlers. We were then given a spead sheet for the main event (top ranked fighters) together with a listing of their current tournament record and head to head record against their day's opponent. There were 20 bouts (I think) culminating with the final bout between two highly ranked fighters one whom was in the running for the tournament champion (unfortnately he lost out) The whole thing was a spectacular end to a wonderful trip made even more memorable by the genuine enthusiasm and knowledge of Miyako our guide. Our night concluded with a very enjoyable Japanese meal at a local Sumo themed restaurant with Miyako as our hostess including a rendition by local Kimono clad artists of some traditional Sumo anthems. A fitting end to a memorable two week tour of Japan

    Beautiful Tokyo day
I was guided by Mitoko-san on my trip to Tokyo, and it's definitely worth it. She's really enthusiastic and knowledgeable showing me around. She also recommend me some nice place to try local food in Tokyo after the tour.

    Eat like a local!!
My private tour w/ Muneko was nothing short of amazing! It was just her and I wandering through the alleys of Shibuya, visiting really cool Izakayas. I was able to try so much good Japanese food at 3 different establishments I would not have even known existed. It was nice having Muneko help me experience what it feels like to be a local in Japan. She was fun, vibrant and even helped this rookie finish his sake when he had a bit too much to drink lol. If you want a genuine Japanese food experience, book this tour! You won’t be disappointed:)

Best experience so far in Tokyo, highly recommended
Shunsuke (our guide) was amazing, he really made the whole experience fun and interesting. Over a couple of hours we learned so much about Sumo, and really enjoyed being there to watch the competition. The dinner afterwards was fine and well organised, consisting of some sashimi and a small hotpot. The sumo went from 2-6pm and the dinner was afterwards (this wasn't clear from the booking but worked out well). We would highly recommend this unique experience to anyone visiting Tokyo.

    Sumo is sick!
Miyako did an amazing job! I knew nothing about Sumo wrestling going in and I walked out feeling like an expert. Miyako did a good job explaining all the rules and traditions of Sumo. You could she was very passionate about it and enjoyed it outside of this tour! Would absolutely recommend!

    Fantastic way to experience sumo!
We had so much fun! Miyako was our tour guide and it was very clear she, herself loves the sport of sumo and she was excited to share it with us. We had a great view of the ring and Miyako diligently explained the both the history of sumo and also the current events. She knew all about the competitors and their careers. I can't recommend this enough!

    Amazing fun day
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. We didnt know what to expect and we knew little about the art of sumo. Our guide collected us at the meeting point and brought us to our seats, and using earphone sets explained the proceedings throughout the four hours of sumo matches. The stadium is enormous and by the time the professional wrestlers started their sessions, the place was packed, including rows of schoolchildren, and the atmosphere was electric. Something that really needs to be experienced as no amount of photos does this justice. We booked the meal too but when we were leaving the station it was pouring with rain so we decided not to join so I can't comment about that part. Overall this was really great fun for all our family.

This is my first time visiting Japan with my family, and I chose Japan Awaits. Their amazing team always promptly responds to my questions and customizes the tour based on my interests. Miko-san is a knowledgeable guide, and I believe that we would never have known and understood the city as well without her.

    We LOVED it!
We had the BEST time with Norika Masuda-san. She was so friendly, patient and super accomodating to our questions and interests. We shared a really nice giggle over our favourite anime! She took so many photos of us and she was truly amazing, I can’t recommend her enough! The restaurant was delicious and the food sample making was super fun and efficient, my husband and I had many laughs. Thank you!!!

We booked a private full day tour of Nagano city with Japan Awaits. Masaru was our guide. He’s not only enthusiastic and energetic, he’s a wonderful and most considerate person to see the snow monkeys, took us to a public foot bath in yudanaka, and lunch at a good ramen restaurant. Then we explored Obuse town, sampled delicious chestnut sweets, sake tasting, visited the Hokusai museum and stopped at Gansho-ji temple before heading to Zenkoji temple back in Nagano.
There was a lot to pack in a day and Masaru managed to do this with much grace and flexibility!
We highly recommend Japan Awaits with Masaru!

The tour was so much fun!!! My son and I are visiting from Hawai’i and this tour was a perfect way to see a different side of Japan far out of Tokyo. We went to the snow monkey park, did a beautiful hike through a forest, visited a beautiful temple and a museum where we learned about a famous Japanese artist, Hosukai. We visited a traditional village and had lunch there. Our tour guide, Hori, was very sweet and knowledgeable and he even took the time to research a place where we could eat a vegan lunch. We ended the day at a private Onsen, hot springs, and are relaxing at our hotel now after an unforgettable day of beauty and culture.

This was such a fantastic experience. Our guide Horiuchi "Hori" was amazing; friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and patient. We took a wonderful stroll around picturesque Obuse town, took in the Hokusai gallery, sipped sake at a 300 year old brewery, and had lunch in a beautiful old restaurant. After that we made our way to Snow Monkey Park for a wander amongst the spectacular cedar forests before we got to see the stars of the show, the macaques who were roaming free and happy. This is not a zoo and it was a great privilege to walk amongst these enigmatic creatures. All in all a simply wonderful day. In the evening we stayed in the ryokan, another unique and wonderful experience that we loved. I can highly recommend this experience if you have the time, it was magical.

Mr. Hori was a knowledgeable guide and gave an excellent explanation of the snow monkey park and took us to Obuse as well. He showed us the little gardens behind houses in Obuse as well. He is very punctual and great with children. The snow monkey park is great! Even in the middle of summer, there were a ton of Japanese macaques out and about. Think of a good question or two to have Mr. Hori ask the park ranger.

Ilhom was an amazing guide. Very sweet and knowledgeable about the area, and fluent in English, Japanese, and Russian. When we realized towards the end of the day that there wasn't enough time to visit the Onsen listed in the description, Ilhom made the extra time to make sure my wife and I could visit. Got to visit great sites including Nagano, The monkey park, Obuse, and a few markets. 100% recommend.

Booked the private tour and was greeted by Chihiro (Hiro) at the meeting point near the information center. The good thing about using the private tour was that we could adjust the timing to suit our needs and need not rush. Spent more than 2 hours at Jigokudani as it was the highlight of the tour. Hiro was quite informative and helpful in assisting with our needs.

We had a lovely day! Our guide, Weiwei Fan, was waiting for us at the station and took us on a private tour to the Monkey park, the town Obuse, Sakura trees and the Zenkoji temple. Our guide was very friendly and taught us a lot about the country and sightseeing spots. We really recommend this tour. It was one of our best days in Japan: a unique experience with a local guide. Thank you Weiwei Fan!

This tour is highly recommended! Our guide was very friendly and highly flexible to adjust for spontaneous decisions. He spoke fluent english and was able to tell us a lot about the cultural differences since he immigrated to Japan.
He took us to the famous Snow Monkeys, Zenko-Ji Temple and to Obuse village, where we had sake tasting and visited the market. Furthermore we went to the Shiga highland where we had a wonderful view over the land and made a stop by a gorgeous waterfall. In the evening we went to a Onsen town with a public foot bath in the town center.
Take this private tour if you´re coming to Nagano and want to have a guide who is willing to adjust the tour to your needs and has great cultural and historical knowledge. We will definitely come again.

Of all my trips to Japan (Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Huis Ten Bosch, Tokyo), this trip to Nagano was the best due to the great tour guide (Ilhom) we had. He is very knowledgeable about the tour’s destinations (Snow Monkeys’, Obuse, Zenko-ji), Nagano’s culture, people, town, and food. He enhanced the tour with the food samplings and shopping for Nagano’s production. Ilhom was very friendly and knowledgeable. Ilhom made our trip so enjoyable and we will return to Nagano soon. Thank you Ilhom for showing Nagano to us
