Ray is a great guide who is patient, knowledgeable, and loves the city. Highlights are the view of the city and the surrounding mountains from the monkey park (which involves a bit of an uphill hike to get to, but is enjoyable it its own right) and the feeling you get within the bamboo forest. We spent four days in Kyoto, mainly walking in the downtown area, and this was a very nice counterpoint to that. Thank you very much, Ray!

What an amazing tour!! Absolutely loved the bamboo grove and the monkey park was definitely a highlight, with great views of the city and so many cute monkeys! Our guide Ray was super friendly and knew so much about the area and Japanese history and culture, I feel liked I learned a lot as well as seeing some amazing views. Ray took us all over western Kyoto and showed us some cool city spots that I never would have found on my own. Would definitely recommend this tour, thanks so much Ray for such an awesome, fun day!

This was a great tour and bike ride. Our guide, Ray, was knowledgeable, fun and had so many interesting stories. We rode very nice Cannondale bicycles. We had a great tour of the bamboo forest, rode through the local streets of Kyoto and into the farms surrounding the city. We hiked up to the monkey park and were able to feed and observe the monkeys. This was a great afternoon to see all these sights and get the history behind them. Ray took lots of pictures and added them to the dropbox. I highly recommend this tour.

Had a really wonderful time exploring Arashiyama town, temples, shrines monkey park and forest!!! Ray is a very knowledgeable and attentive guide and he told us many interesting facts about the places we visited and about Japanese culture. This tour exceeded my expectations by FAR and I HIGHLY recommend it if you are in Kyoto!! A unique and fun afternoon you will never forget!

We booked this tour after arriving in Kyoto—and we are leaving Kyoto with the best memories from this very tour! Peter was welcoming, fun, knowledgeable, and down right fun! We had a wonderful time with the other tour participants as well! What we enjoyed was the ability to see Kyoto via bike with having someone else do the navigating for us! In a simple 4 hour block of the day, we saw so many incredible places that Peter explained thoroughly. We had plenty of time at each stop to take pictures, hike, and chat with the others in the group. If you are wanting a fun adventure with an exceptional guide, hands-down book this one! (Also, the tour website has bonus restaurant recommendations - Fire Ramen was great!)

A fantastic way to see Kyoto, you cycle through parks full of locals playing baseball, along the Katsura River, and to unique destinations like the bamboo forest, monkey reserve, Shinto shrines, and kimono forest. The bikes are new and comfortable, the route is comfortable and easy, and Ray is a very knowledgeable and patient local, with a good eye for photography, and an adorable daughter who dropped by to say hello. Book this trip before it fills up!

I booked this tour through Trip Advisor over 30 days ago and was confirmed. One week before I leave for Japan, the tour operator informed me that they do not actually have any space on this tour on the date I booked it. They were not able to accomodate the only other time I have available in Kyoto. I am very disappointed since so many thinks have booked since I made this reservatiopn

This tour was perfect. We got to see so much- bamboo forest, shrines, monkeys with babies. And our tour guide Peter was absolutely wonderful. The pace was very doable and it was mostly flat the entire way. We had another bike tour earlier in the week and our guide barely spoke English, and did not give us any background or history. But Peter (formerly from the US and fluent in Japanese as well as his native English) told us lots of cute anecdotes, as well as giving us a lot of background of the area we were seeing to make us feel like we had a much more full experience in Kyoto. In addition, the equipment for the bike tour was wonderful as were the offered helmets. It was the highlight of our trip. If we had been there longer, we would’ve definitely tried to take another tour with Peter.

This tour was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Japan! Our tour guide, Ray, was fantastic and provided an amazingly fun and informative tour of Arashiyama, the Bamboo Forest, and Monkey Park. We truly had a blast and would highly recommend this tour to everyone! A must-do when in Kyoto!

Wonderful tour, very knowledgeable and kind tour guide (Ray), all in all definitely worth it. The highlight of our trip.
Ray was a fabulous host, extremely knowledgeable, and very personable. While walking through the Bamboo Forest I caught myself thinking a few times how little I would have gotten out of the trip without Ray; what would have been a simple walk through a beautiful forest became a lesson in botany and Japanese history.
The bike ride went through the country and gave us a whole new appreciation for Kyoto. It was refreshing and Ray did a great job communicating where we were going and what we needed to do. He even bought us some fresh persimmons to try.
Ray took us the the Monkey Park at the perfect time, a few minutes before feeding. He took a lot of great photos and taught us a lot about the monkeys.
Finally, he also took lots of fantastic photos (probably the best photos we have of our trip).
P.S. Direct booking is very easy

Greetings!
Came across the fantastic review here, I'm planning a trip to Kyoto and looking for interesting tour to Bamboo Forest.
My concern is I'm able to ride but just not very good and pro with it and kind of on a slow pace.
Will it be ok to join the bike trip or should I just go for walking trip?
