Fantastic tour! I took the full trip and absolutely loved it. Ray (my guide) was awesome and it felt like I cruised around the city with a buddy (if that buddy speaks fluent Japanese, knows all the sweet back alleys and has a delightfully deep knowledge of Japanese culture/history). The riding was chill (minimal elevation changes) and all day in the saddle felt like a breeze when being blasted with interesting facts and cultural insights. Can’t recommend this enough and will be a repeat customer when I return to Kyoto.

Had a great time on the tour despite the weather challenges. The weather forecast said no rain initially when we started out but it ended up raining for over 60% of our tour including multiple hail storms! Peter did his best to get us through it and we all survived and got some great pictures and an experience that we will never forget. He took many pictures for us and sent them all to us afterwards. It was a very unique way to see the local areas and back streets of Kyoto along with 5 major tourist attractions. He was very knowledgeable about the history and was a great guide. As for the bike riding, the bikes were high quality and easy to ride. The majority of the ride was on easy flat terrain however there are a few inclines here and there. I would recommend to dress warmly if the weather is chilly and be somewhat physically fit due to the amount of riding involved. Overall I thought it was a well planned tour and a great way to see Kyoto!

This was an awesome experience. I got an email confirming everything in advance and giving detailed directions about how to arrive, which was great since I don't know Japanese. Peter is a very knowledgeable tour guide and a very interesting person, and he was able to keep me engaged for an 8-hour tour between the wealth of knowledge he has as well as his personal life stories. He even surprised me with a short detour to the original Nintendo headquarters when I told him I was a Nintendo fan. He also made sure that we were able to eat lunch at a restaurant with options besides sushi and fish at my request. I also got photos sent to me through Dropbox at the conclusion of the tour. Thanks for a great tour and if I'm back in Kyoto I will do another one!

If you like biking, take this tour. It's a long and full day and and left me feeling a bit exhausted and very satisfied. It would be hard to see all of these sights in one day without a bike, but Kyoto is a safe and pleasant city for riding and we managed to circle around most of it; visiting two temples, a shrine, the bamboo forest, and a geisha district, among several other stops and a tasty lunch. The tour is well paced and Ray is a great guide; he was friendly, informative, and clearly happy to be doing what he's doing. We had a group of five (two couples and myself, a solo traveler) and he made sure to take photos of each of us at every attraction, which was a thoughtful touch. He also gave great recommendations for the rest of my time in Kyoto and in Japan. Kyoto Bike Tours is still a small operation and it's easy to tell they care a lot about creating a good experience. Highly recommended!

Thanks a bunch Dave! It was really special spending the day together with you and the group! I am pleased you got a good feel for the city and took home a special memory of Kyoto. Please stop by the next time you are in town :)

Ray

Let me start off by saying, I never write positive reviews, but I had such an amazing experience I wanted to share. I was lucky enough to have 1 1:1 tour with Ray. This says a lot, as Ray could have easily cancelled but he is so passionate about Kyoto and all it has to offer. Ray has that type of personality that reminds you of a old school friend. He explains the history in such a simple way it is easy to retain and his biking skills as we navigated the city were superb.
We biked a total of 25 miles and walked about 10, so my only recommendation would be to make sure you know how to bike and are in decent physical shape.
Thank you Ray for the memories and amazing pictures!!!

We are not early birds. We are not the best bikers either. In fact, I’ve never ridden more than 5 miles per trip. But this bike tour was worth every minute I could have been sleeping and even surprised myself I could complete the 42 miles without much difficulty! Peter and Keith are local to Kyoto and were very knowledgeable- a pleasure to spend the 8 hr tour with. Time went by fast and we got to see local alleys and places we wouldn’t have been able to venture to otherwise. We highly recommend this tour! Oh, and do bring padded cycling shorts...

This was a wonderful tour circling through the city of Kyoto with local information, temples, bamboo forest, Maiko and history. It was a range of ages from late 20s to early 60s. The group was fun and the day was perfect. Bike skills were needed as we cycled on roads as well as trails.

Ray took my family of 4 for a fantastic day of cycling around Kyoto. The tour is advertised as 5 top highlights, but there were many other stops along the way with lots of information about all of them. Ray was an excellent guide and photographer. We have many pictures from him to help remember the day.
The bicycles were all Canondale and in top condition. Two were the latest model with disc brakes.
It is a long day’s ride and requires a moderate level of fitness, but I can highly recommend it.

We had a great time touring Kyoto with Peter! He’s very laid back and gives you information about each of the places you visit without overwhelming you. The bikes are in great condition and very comfortable to ride. I would definitely recommend adding a day with Kyoto Bike Tour to your trip!

Hello, I need to cancel this tour, as I am also cancelling my upcoming trip to Japan in mid April due to covid-19. How do I go about cancelling my booking and getting my refund? It was fully pre-paid. I don't see an email for contact anywhere. thank you..
Hello,
Are full tours available daily?
Is lunch included?
Seems like all major stops included and a great experience.
Thanks!

We are interested in this tour - we are a family if 4 with 2 adults and 2 girls aged 13 &11 - they are both athletic - is this suitable for them - as there didn’t seem to be an option. To select children in the booking - Also are you the same as the early bird tour to the bamboo forest?
Best wishes

I would say if they are athletic they will be fine. Keep in mind that even though you stop at each location to walk around visit, it is a full day of riding. I believe it was almost 4PM or maybe 5PM by the time we made it back to the starting point.
Hi there, does the price include all entry fees into the shrines etc? Thanks!

I would love to take this tour with my husband, but we’re staying in Tokyo and will need to take a bullet train to Kyoto. Does this tour start at 8:30 am? I’m looking at October 25th.

Yes this tour starts at 8.30am. The start point is 7 stops on JR line from Kyoto station and takes approx 15 mins but you can obviously check times on Hypedia.
They may have shorter routes that start later?

Hi, I'm 68 years old & moderately fit but haven't bicycled much in some years. Are the bikes the kind you bend over for or sit up straight for (like the bike tours in major cities in Europe)?

Sit up type. My wife is 60, doesn't cycle much, moderately fit and coped okay with this tour
