Amazing Early Bird Bike Tour in Kyoto!
We did the Early Bird bike tour in Kyoto, and it was a fantastic experience! Our guide, Peter, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole tour both informative and fun. He shared interesting insights into Kyoto's history and culture, which really enriched the journey. One of the highlights was visiting a temple where we got to experience calligraphy—such a unique and enjoyable activity. Riding through the rice fields was also a memorable moment, offering beautiful views of Kyoto. What I appreciated most was that this tour took us off the beaten path, focusing more on lesser-known, less touristy spots around the city. It gave me a deeper understanding of Kyoto beyond the usual landmarks. The bikes provided were of excellent quality, making the ride comfortable and smooth. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a different and authentic way to explore Kyoto!

      Incredible experience!!
We had an incredible experience on our Arashiyama bike tour in Kyoto with our guide, Rob. Not only did he provide fascinating insights about the bamboo forest and surrounding area, but he also gave us a deeper understanding of Japan’s rich history, the culture, and language. Rob's knowledge and passion for Japan was evident throughout the tour, making every stop along the way truly special. His detailed explanations helped us appreciate the traditions and customs that make Japan so unique. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore Kyoto in an engaging and informative way!

This was a great tour. Our guide Yuki was excellent. He had an in depth knowledge of all things Japanese and he made sure that we had an interesting and fun tour. The tour had lots of variety and cycles were a great mode of transport. It was a really worthwhile tour.

      An Authentic, Unique Kyoto Experience
I did this tour on a very hot, early September day. There ended up only being one other person, but I’m so glad I braved the weather (and my own already-tired body) to do this tour- it was so, so good. Yuki was the most personable and knowledgeable guide- it really felt like we were getting shown around the best spots by an old friend. Every location was beautiful, he gave us background and cultural insights on each temple and historical location, and biking was such a great way to enjoy the city and avoid the crowded busses. Would absolutely recommend this no matter how long you have in Kyoto, whether it’s one day or one month!

      Incredible tour thanks to Rob
This tour completely exceeded any expectations! Rob was so knowledgeable about all of the sites we visited and was so great at helping us safely navigate all of the roads. We got to see all of the top Kyoto sites in 1 day, plus additional places we would have never seen on our own! I recommend this to anyone looking to explore Kyoto!

      Awesome Day and Great Guide
An absolutely awesome tour. Rob was an incredible tour guide. Got us set up with the bikes, taught us the local rules of the road and then we were on our way. Got to the popular spots before the crowds and were also able to check out off the beaten path locations that were awe inspiring. But most of all Rob’s knowledge of Japan and Japanese culture mixed with his thoughtful engagement made for an awesome day. We cannot recommend this tour and Rob as a guide enough. A must do in Kyoto.

      Morning bike tour
Yuji is a great tour guide. We did the morning tour starting at 8am. When we arrived, he has all the bicycles, helmets and two bottles of cold water ready for everyone. He speaks fluent English, is friendly, funny and told us about the culture and stories about the temples and shrines we visited along the way. We even got to see some country side of Japan. Despite the torching heat, thanks to Yuji, who made our bike tour really fun!

Unique way to see Arashiyama area
We went on the morning bamboo, temple tour and it was really lovely. I thought it was safe, the bikes were super clean/maintained, and helmets were also provided (and clean!). The tour itself was great and a different perspective. The kids enjoyed biking and we covered a lot more ground than if we were walking in the heat. I thought the tour guide was good - but also could have added more history, stories, and facts. We have taken a few tourist bike tours and in comparison was a bit light. All that said, highly recommended. Guide took photos (great shots!) for ease of getting everyone quickly, but I wish I had insisted on using my own camera. A bit less high definition than my iphone12.

Beautiful morning bike tour. Take the Early Bird to beat the heat.
Many thanks to our guide Yuki for an entertaining and highly educational bike tour of the Kyoto countryside. Yuki’s knowledge and presentation skills were on point while we took a multi stop bike tour which included UNESCO site Tenryuji Highly recommended. Safe travels, All.

Lovely bike tour of Kyoto :)
Highly recommend this wonderful bike tour of Kyoto! Our guide, Peter, was fantastic. He took us on hidden back streets in Arashiyama to some really interesting sights that we would otherwise not have seen. It was a really hot day, but he provided water and rest stops so we didn't melt. Can't wait to come back and do a full day tour next time!

We spent a fantastic day exploring Kyoto with Peter. He planned an amazing itinerary for us showcasing the best attractions in Kyoto and keeping our kids, ages 17, 16 and 11, happy, engaged and safe. He was thoughtful about the amount of cycling that our 11-year-old could manage and customized an itinerary that worked beautifully. Peter’s commentary throughout the tour gave us a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of what we were seeing. The bikes were exceptionally clean, well maintained, and comfortable for the 32km of cycling we covered. If your family is considering a bicycle tour in Kyoto, we can’t recommend Kyoto Bike Tour highly enough. It was truly a highlight of our trip to Japan!

Let me start off by saying, I never write positive reviews, but I had such an amazing experience I wanted to share. I was lucky enough to have 1 1:1 tour with Ray. This says a lot, as Ray could have easily cancelled but he is so passionate about Kyoto and all it has to offer. Ray has that type of personality that reminds you of a old school friend. He explains the history in such a simple way it is easy to retain and his biking skills as we navigated the city were superb.

We biked a total of 25 miles and walked about 10, so my only recommendation would be to make sure you know how to bike and are in decent physical shape.

Thank you Ray for the memories and amazing pictures!!!

Ray was a very knowledgeable, fun and laid back tour guide who made our day on the bike very enjoyable. We did the full day tour which gave us the opportunity to see everything we wanted to see in Kyoto in one long (but fun!) day. Ray has lived in Japan for many years, so he has a deep interest, love and understanding of the Japanese culture. He was able to provide us with lots of background and history for each site that we visited. We were lucky to have a beautiful day to bike around Kyoto and the biking was mostly flat and easy going. The bikes are in excellent condition. There are plenty of stops so that you can stretch your legs and get off the bike. The sakura were in bloom and Ray makes sure to take many pictures of the group and individuals as well as the sights. He sends a link at the end to all of the pictures and they are great! You don't need to worry about taking any yourself! Just soak in the atmosphere. We had a wonderful lunch and great company with our fellow bikers. Entrance fees and lunch are included in the tour. At the end, Ray made sure that we knew how to find our way back to our hotel and he offered dinner recommendations. This tour is a full day tour but I believe that they offer a 1/2 day morning and 1/2 day afternoon tour as well so don't hesitate to book one of their tours for a lovely day cruising around Kyoto. Tip: Go on one of your first days in Kyoto so that you have time to go back and explore those areas that interest you most. Highly recommend!

If you don‘t want to spend a lot of time on public transport and still see some of Kyotos most famous highlights plus a lot of beautiful places on the way I highly recommend Kyoto Bike Tour!

Ray was the perfect guide for my day tour. He is very knowledgeable, helpful and great company and made sure I had a fantastic day in Kyoto.
My Cannondale bike was in great condition and a perfect match for my height (which can be a bit of a struggle in Japan sometimes).
Throughout the 8hrs tour we visited the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, the Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Kiyomizu-dera, the Geisha District and the Kinkaku-ji cycling along rivers, rice fields, passing kimono factories, the former Imperial Palace grounds and many backstreets of Kyoto and had lunch at a lovely local restaurant. Ray explained the history of the various places and made sure to share some fun facts too and he also took lots of photos at the sites and on the bikes so don‘t worry if you‘re travelling solo like me - you‘ll still have some great shots of you in the end as a memory.

When you come to Kyoto make sure you make time for a tour with Kyoto Bike Tour!

We are not early birds. We are not the best bikers either. In fact, I’ve never ridden more than 5 miles per trip. But this bike tour was worth every minute I could have been sleeping and even surprised myself I could complete the 42 miles without much difficulty! Peter and Keith are local to Kyoto and were very knowledgeable- a pleasure to spend the 8 hr tour with. Time went by fast and we got to see local alleys and places we wouldn’t have been able to venture to otherwise. We highly recommend this tour! Oh, and do bring padded cycling shorts...

Amazing experiencie, Ray and Pete are the best guides in Kyoto. The tour is extense but very precise on the landmarks of the city, from temples to shrines and amazing photo spots. It is a tour that requires a good level of stamina, since you cycle around 45 km troughout the city.

This was a wonderful tour circling through the city of Kyoto with local information, temples, bamboo forest, Maiko and history. It was a range of ages from late 20s to early 60s. The group was fun and the day was perfect. Bike skills were needed as we cycled on roads as well as trails.

We had a wonderfull day with our guide Robert, getting to know some of the most significant and beautiful parts of Kyoto. This was a really well organised tour and Robert was able to give us a great understanding of the history and culture of each of the places we visited. Robert is highly knowledgeable and very informative in a relaxed and friendly way. This is a really great tour enabling us to get to so many sites in one day but not at all rushed as Robert was very good at steering us through any of the crowded points very efficiently. We had elected e-bikes for the tour and they were the best and most up to date Specialized bikes I’ve seen. It was a cold morning at the start so we were impressed with the addition of some woollen gloves in our bike baskets in case we needed them and a bottle of water on the bike. Lunch was a real treat at a small but very popular udon restaurant (queue down the street unless you get there at the right time). Thank you Robert for a great experience and we enjoyed the way you shared your knowledge and passion for Japanese culture..
    Would highly recommend

We took the ‘Best of Kyoto’ tour with Peter and have only great things to say about it! It was fun, very informative and gave us a really great overview of Kyoto while we were here for a short time.
Peter was responsive both through email and phone and answered all of our questions well during the tour.
We were treated to a fabulous lunch and saw a lot of the main sights in Kyoto.
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys seeing a lot of a city, especially by bike.

Probably the best tour I ever took. Amazing views, unforgettable temples and shrines and first of all: a fun and knowledgeable guide, Ray! Great Cannondale bike, safe and fast. Beautiful side roads and rides along the river. I had the most wonderful day. Ray even had a power bank, when my phone was out of juice, Ray had a recommendation for a Jazz bar, Ray coached me how to deal with Japanese co-workers. After all, it was a cultural infusion, a historical vaccination, a Japanese language seminar, a start of a friendship and … a good portion of relaxing exercise, which was long overdue…;) Recommend to everyone who comes to Kyoto and want a to see the city, it’s beautiful surrounding and rivers and, certainly, the most beautiful bamboo forest, temples and shrines.
