Enjoy the highlight of Arashiyama, the bamboo forest, at an unique vantage point from the comfortable seat of the traditional rickshaw. Sit back and relax as your guide navigates carefully and safely through the traffic as you pass by other iconic sights of Arashiyama such as the Togetsukyo Bridge, the river side with Mt Arashi, charactaristic neighbourhoods and townhouses. Venture north to a quiet and traditional neighbourhood along a pilgrim path leading up the mountain. Get off the rickshaw to enjoy the preserved, traditional houses and landscape at your own pace. Visit one of those Machiya houses (Archive Hall) from the inside. Your guide will continue to explain the sights to you as you make your way to the comical and unique Otagi-Nenbutsuji Temple. On your way back to the rickshaw, stop at one of the thatched tea house for a cup of matcha or traditional sweets (optional). Back on the rickshaw head to your preferred finishing location.

      Best Rickshaw
My wife and I were very happy with the experience. We originally were planning for 15 min, but extended it to 30 min because Koji, the driver, was so good. He was nice, cheerful, informative, and overall amazing. They take you to a private area of the bamboo forest, so it doesn't have anyone there. It was a great place for pictures. We also went to a samurai's house and saw a statue of Ryoma who we had just been introduced to from the drama, Jin, a week before coming to Japan. You should definitely do this one. Koji is great.

      Amazing ride and experience
Wonderful experience! We were greeted warmly by the all the tour guides. Everyone was so helpful and attentive - we felt like royalty. Every detail of the experience was well organized and planned out. The ride itself was charming, scenic and so relaxing. Whether riding through the streets of the historic area or through the majestic bamboo forest, every moment of our time was just lovely. Our guide was amazing, very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. If I could rate this experience higher, I definitely would!

Don't be shy! Just try it
I have lived in Japan for 4 years and have already seen Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. But, my friend was visiting and it was rainy, so we decided to take a rickshaw tour instead of walking. It was very worth it! We rode with Keito and he was very knowledgable about everything around, so I learned some new information about Arashiyama and Kyoto overall. He was very friendly and the ride was smooth even though it was raining. He also took some great pictures which was even more impressive in that weather.

      Best Tour Ever
We had an amazing time with our driver Yoppy. He drove us on their private road and took beautiful pictures with our phone. He informed us about the history of the area in such a fun, delightful, and personal way. We rode with our 18month baby who also enjoyed it and fell asleep on the ride. It was great for us because it would have been difficult to walk with a baby. Thank you Yoppy!

Unique and upbeat experience to see the bamboo forest
Very helpful and good communication from prebooking through to after the tour and sending us off in the right direction to our next activity. I booked three rickshaws for my family - two 70 minute tours for my immediate family and a 120 minute tour for my parents. The drivers were safe, provided interesting information, and attended to the various needs of our group. One of our drivers took many amazing pictures and was somehow able to stop the traffic flow of people in the main forest passageway to take many pictures of my family right in the middle. My parents said this is the best tour they have done. It was unique, and having walked through the forest before on a previous visit to Kyoto, I have to say it felt luxurious to glide through the crowds, cover more ground, and be above all the people in terms of vantage point. Everyone I interacted with from questions before booking via email, to the team members on site by the bridge (with my giant name sign :), to the drivers and even people working for the company I saw on the other side of town are all so positive and upbeat.

My planning went to a mess because I missed my reserved Sagano Romantic Train. It supposed to be a tragedy but because of Ebisuya, it became one of the best memories that we had on this trip. The drivers, Mr HIGASHI and Mr Akki, they were so kind and attentive. They explained and discussed which course suited us best, rather than pushing us to pay more money. They handled the route with a lot of care and friendliness. They described not only the history, but also the building of temple which you can tell their passion toward the job. Despite it is a rather physically demanding job, their professionalism is just off the chart. The photos they took for us was so amazing which you would think they were taken by experienced camera pros!! Highly recommend to those who visit ARASHIYAMA for the first time, travelling with elderlies and in times of peak hours/season. Definitely worth it!!

Amazing way to see the bamboo forest!
We had a small group and this was a fabulous way to see the bamboo forest. Our guide Taiga was so friendly, shared so much information along the way and took the most amazing photos of us on our mobile phones. Highly recommend.

A great way to visit the bamboo forest and town
The rickshaw tour was fun, with personable, energetic drivers who will take lots of pictures for you. There is a (short) private pathway in the bamboo forest, so you can escape the crowds and the longer tours take you through the town. Ideal for those with mobility issues...and for everyone else, a nice break from all the walking involved with any visit to Japan!

Thank you Yuya and Yuta, you were both fantastic guides!
We enjoyed our 45 minutes rickshaw ride with our guides Yuya and Yuta. Yuya looked after myself and my husband and Yuya stayed closely behind with our two children. Both guides were absolutely fantastic! They were knowledgeable of the local area and took the most amazing photos during our tour. In the bamboo forest we were taken down a private rickshaw lane that meant we were away from all the crowds. It felt so special. Throughout the tour, both guides chatted away to us about the local areas and showed us both the older and newer parts of the area. We felt perfectly safe with our guides. I would definitely recommend this tour! It was a highlight of our trip to Kyoto!

      A great ride!
This was such a fun thing to do in Japan. We had the best guide, Yuta and he kept us moving! He took great photos and showed us many temples and the bamboo forest. We all had such fun seeing this part of Kyoto on a glorious day. It was a Sunday so it was crowded but the rickshaws always had the right of way. Don’t miss this fun experience!!!

Dear Marg, Thank you very much for taking a rickshaw tour with our guides in Kyoto, exploring the Higashiyama area from the comfortable seats of the rickshaw. A 2 hour tour is a good choice if you are interested in not only experiencing riding on a rickshaw, but also to discover the various neighbourhoods of the Higashiyama area. We hope the pictures taken by your guide will help you remember your rickshaw tour and time in Kyoto for a long time to come! Best Regards, Larissa C EBISUYA Rickshaw

During the past month of march, we were lucky to hire a guided tour with rickshaw in the Arashiyama area of Kyoto, specifically we visited the bamboo forest. The experience was incredible, absolutely recommended. Our drivers Keita, Kyota and Itikaru treated us with sympathy and cordiality. They were very professionals. Their “must” was the quality of the pictures that they took us during the trip. Today these pictures are an unforgettable memory. A highly recommended tour.

Dear caputxi2004, Thank you very much for taking a rickshaw tour with us back in March. We are very happy to hear that you had a wonderful time visiting Arashiyama and the bamboo forest with our three guides. Thank you very much for recommending them! Seeing that you took the tour in the spring and writing a review about it in October, it shows how much of an impact and memory you have from then. That is actually quite moving. Here are comments two of your guides wrote in response to your review: Hikaru: "Thank you for the ride the other day. Thank you for the review. I am very happy that you enjoyed your trip to Kyoto with a rickshaw. Please come and visit Japan again." Kyota: "Hi,thank you for taking our rickshaws! We are still running through the bamboo forest. Autumn inKyoto is very good, too‼︎If there are any chances, please visit Japan again." Best Regards, Guide: Hikaru YOSHIDA, Kyota YOSHIDA, Keita IIDA Staff: Larissa C EBISUYA Rickshaw

Dear chelseasU3334QT, Thank you very much choosing to have Ebisuya Rickshaw take you around the area. We are happy to know that you enjoyed the guidance, explanations and the photos by your assigned guide Shota. The rickshaws are used all year round and can be adapted according to the season. When it rains or get colder we adjust the type and thickness of the blankets, including water- and windproof covers to keep you warm and comfortable during this colder season. Hopefully the explanations provided during the tour offered a deeper insight on the local culture and enabled you to enjoy the rest of visit even more. Kind Regards, EBISUYA Rickshaw
