We spent several hours walking through Gion - eating, drinking, getting to know some of our fellow visitors to Kyoto, and having a wonderful evening! Our guide was friendly and helpful, and did a great job of leading our group to some delicious food. There was more than enough food and drinks to make the tour worth the price, and the delightful company and beauty of Kyoto at night were added bonuses. I would definitely recommend this tour to others.

We love the experience of food tour, so pretty during the Sakura season. it’s like you wouldn’t know those secret gem bars and restaurants without Hiraki’s guide, and she was very professional, introduced us the history of the Kyoto area and what’s must to have here. I will totally recommend it , 11 out of 10.

We booked this tour 3 months in advance given its potential popularity and there was correspondence with the tour operator throughout that period about meal preferences, food allergies, etc. As far as we knew, this tour was confirmed, but the day before we arrived in Kyoto, the tour was cancelled, leaving us high and dry. When we asked why it was cancelled, we were told that they couldn’t find a guide because they were too busy. Fine, but it would have been nice to get a heads up a few weeks beforehand so that we could have made alternate plans. Many restaurants in Kyoto are booked well in advance, so finding dinner that evening was a challenge. Strongly recommend a back up plan for this tour!

Thank you for your honest feedback. We understand that we have disappointed you. We should have forseen the shortage in our guides far, far ahead as April is the most popular month of the year and have prepared for it. It is so upseting to hear that you had such a challenging night to find a place to dine. We are sincerely sorry for the trouble we caused. We have been trying to hire as many new guides as possible so that this won't happen ever again. Thank you for the review. Sincerely, MagicalTrip Support Team

As someone that frequently joins food tours when visiting new places, the Magical Trip Kyoto tour one was very disappointing and I cannot recommend, especially given the absurdly high price point for what you are getting. While with most food tours the hosts entertain and order new and interesting items for you to try, on this tour we were simply handed "Magical Trip" lamented menus and asked what we each wanted... something we could have easily done ourselves. Further, there was very little engagement from the host, who clearly lacked an outgoing and social personality, which made the experience extremely awkward. I must also note the uncomfortableness and unprofessionalism of the host pressuring the group to immediately write positive reviews while we were still actively on the tour by having us scan a QR code.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry that you were not able to enjoy our tour. Most of our customers love our original menu chosen by locals. And, we carefully select a variety of authentic food and drink loved by locals. We are sorry that we couldn't offer food that fits your preference. Also, the experience with local guide is one of our core values, so we take it seriously as well. We will continue to improve training of our local guides. Again, we appriciate your honest feedback. That means a lot to us. MagicalTrip

What a fun & delicious food tour through the Gion area. Our guides Akiko & Tomoe took us to places we’d never find on our own, told great stories & gave insights into Kyoto food.
A local izakaya, a tempura pub then exquisite sweets at a hidden cafe. So much food, so amazing!

I really enjoyed having an evening to chat with Tomoe about the history of Kyoto and to hear her own stories and thoughts on Japanese culture! There is so much to learn from talking with locals. The food we had was also authentic and amazing, I had the sake pairing with the meal and it really added to the experience. I highly recommend this tour if you would like to learn more about Japanese culture and enjoy some food along the way.

What a beautiful tour thanks to our wonderful and amazing guide Tomoe! She showed and explained to us the various courses in a beautiful resteraunt with tatami flooring. Here, we learned about each course in detail as she explained the proper way to eat it, as well as giving an important history lesson behind each dish. I honestly didn't expect it to be so detailed and amazing! Next was a lovely stroll through the old but majestic roads of Kyoto at night, making our way to the next food spot we saw Geisha on the job, what a site to behold! It was truly a spectacle, we finished off the day with good sake and amazing dessert, I must say, if you pick a tour guide, pick Tomoe if you like good conversation and learning about Kyoto and japanese food etiquette, traditions, and history. Thank you again Tomoe, you were wonderful!

Great night. Tomoe (our guide) was knowledgeable of the local food and sites. It was an entertaining group that provided an entertaining night. Recommend doing a food tour early in trip as the guides have some good suggestions on places to eat and see.
