100% recommend Ray with Kyoto Bike Tours! He expertly guided us through the area, provided us with lots of information about all the sites, and showed up some spots we would have near found on our own. Absolutely great experience!

This bike tour was amazing. We have a 7 year old who rode a bike and 4 year old in a child seat. Ray was very attentive and patient with the kids. He even exchanged out my son's bike to a smaller one so he would be more comfortable with the bike. We met Ray and the bikes at the train station so it was super easy to get to and find. We got some history and Ray kept the boys interested and involved throughout the tour. Ray speaks English and Japanese which was great for us. It was an early start, but this was good because we were ahead of the crowd. Ray took several pictures throughout the tour that we now have as keepsakes. We highly recommend this bike tour.

Arashiyama bamboo bike tour (early bird)
Kyoto bike tours were great to work with in planning tour and detailed information. This was one of our trips highlights when visiting Kyoto. Ray was extremely knowledgeable about Japanese history, relit and culture. We learned a lot more about Japan from him. He also took great pictures of our day that we would not have otherwise. He also gave great directions and concerns with our safety on trip. Was a great way to see Arashiyama area on busy autumn day, but avoided the crowds. Highly recommend to do this tour for all ages.

My wife and I went on the morning bamboo forest ride with Ray. Everything about the morning was amazing. When we arrived at the meeting location, Ray was very welcoming and made sure everything was just right with our bicycles before we headed. Throughout the day, we visited the bamboo forest, several shrines and temples, road through the country side, and visited the river! Ray was incredibly knowledgeable about the city and Japanese culture. Ray also took incredible photos of us throughout the day that we will cherish forever. Everything about the day exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

Great Family Experience
We started our Kyoto vacation early with the Arashiyma bike tour. It was amazing! We had our 3 and 1 year olds with us and they had a great time as well. The equipment was great and the kids were very safe. They loved being taken around on the bikes.

The tour was a good mix of nature, temples/shrines, history and townscapes. Our guide, Ray made everything very easy and smooth. Even when our kids got fussy at times (or tried throwing rocks into zen gardens (smh)) he was kind and positive. We loved his recommended itinerary, which took us away from the more crowded areas.

The autumn leaves on the mountains and gardens were beautiful. Having lived in Japan 2 years we’ve seen many temples, but these were some of the best because of the mix of art, nature and ambiance.

Highly recommend this tour, especially if it’s your first time in the area or Japan.

Magical Day - Must Do!
By far, one of the best things we did during our 5 day stay in Kyoto. From the start, Ray (our guide) went above and beyond to ensure we had a top notch tour. Prior to booking, he answered all questions about the tour (we traveled with another family and needed 3 kids seats added to our bikes) and sent very clear meeting instructions. On the day of the tour, he was extremely patient with our 3 little kids (1, 3, and 5 year olds), while managing to give the adults amazing insight into the sites we visited. We toured all over Arashiyama and saw all the major highlights.

At the end of our tour, he referred us to a wonderful pizza place nearby (more restaurant recommendations can be found on their website).

Another major perk was that kiddos toured free (as long as they were in the kids seat)! That was unexpected and amazing! :)

I highly recommend doing this bike tour when you're in Kyoto! It was such a fun way to explore the area and our guide Ray was wonderful. He taught us so much about everything that we saw and he took us to a few places that we never would have found on our own. He even took photos throughout the tour and was able to get so many nice family photos of us. Our kids are 1 and 4 and they enjoyed riding around on the bikes as much as we did. I was so thankful that Kyoto Bike Tour offers child seats and child helmets so that we were able to do this as a family. It was definitely one of the most memorable parts of our trip!

Bamboo forest in the snow!
Despite being the only 2 people booked for this tour and the fact it was snowing to our delight the tour went ahead! It’s was an amazing morning riding around this beautiful area of Kyoto. The bikes are good quality and the route quite easy for us oldies (late 40’s & early 50’s). Ray was a great guide, his intimate knowledge of Japan’s history and culture was impressive! Overall it was a very memorable experience that I’m so glad we did!!

So worth it!
We had such a wonderful time biking in the early morning. It was worth the early train trip. Our guide, Peter, was great. We enjoyed all the information he provided and most importantly he was fun. We recommend this trip to everyone.
