A great private tour ride in mountains of Kyoto!
Noru has the planned tours, but in this case I wanted something more challenging since I am a cyclist in training.

My husband and I were in Kyoto on our honeymoon and wanted to do a bike tour that was something different than the standard sites. Ross, the owner of Noru, delivered beyond expectations. He took us to a few places that were on a typical must see list of Kyoto but also took us to wonderful places that we never would have found without him. Great experience overall and highly recommend it.

Sean was the guide for our ride and did an excellent job of showing us around Kyoto. We started in downtown Kyoto and visited Honnoji Temple, then took a scenic route along the Kamogawa (Duck) River to Gion, where we visited three geiko districts and the famous Kenninji Temple. Afterward, we traveled to Tofukuji Temple, which contains a set of famous Zen gardens-- whose artistic meanings Sean explained-- and is located next to a beautiful forest of Japanese maple trees. We visited Fushimi Inari shrine last, where we walked among the famous red Torii gates and ate some excellent shaved ice. Throughout the tour, Sean emphasized details and stories based on our expressed interests; he was attentive and conscientious. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Kyoto history and culture.

Our guide, "La La," was knowledgeable, funny, and had a fresh take on everything. She made the experience great. We did the city ride, which was both exciting and a good chunk of exercise (I'd say 25km). This was one of the best things we did during our entire week in Japan. Highly recommended.

Sean was our guide and he was absolutely wonderful in showing us around Kyoto! Originally our morning bike tour was cancelled and we had to reschedule for one in the afternoon, but there were no difficulties at all with the reschedule. We also wanted to see the Fushimi Inari shrine first, and he was more than happy to alter the route.

We biked through the streets of Kyoto, Fushimi Inari shrine, and the Gion district and along the entire way Sean gave us fascinating history and anecdotes about each historical point on the route. It started raining and it didn't adversely affect our journey much at all as we biked through with raincoats no problem. We also stopped for some lovely daifuku mochi that was absolutely delicious.

Was initially skeptical about how the experience would pan out given the relatively high price, but glad we did it as a self-guided tour would have paled in comparison. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to have a biking experience in Kyoto while learning a lot about the history of the city!

We had a great time on this tour with our guide Sean. He provided lots of information (not sure about "secrets"...) about the sites we visited (and even followed up with an email summary which is very helpful for visual learners!). It was a good workout as well (hot day!). It was "exciting" at moments navigating down narrow streets between pedestrians and cars, although we mostly stuck to wider streets and paths. Definitely recommended as a way to cover a lot of ground in a relatively short time. We also got a recommendation for a great restaurant for dinner, down a side street that we never would have found otherwise.
