About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- madsa7390 contributionsFantastic guided tour through Tokyo with KonoFantastic experience being guided by Kono through Tokyo. Everything went seamless, with Kono knowing every corner of this big city, whilst 1) telling us all the rich history and context for the sites we were visiting, 2) teaching us Japanese culture and customs, and 3) being great company. Can highly recommend booking a tour if you are visiting for the first time (as the city is so big and can be overwhelming to map out yourself) and particularly with Kono as your guide. Practical: we were a group of 4 booked with Kono to visit Meiji Jingu, Senso-Ji temple, Tsujiki market, Imperial palace and Tokyo Skytree.Written December 28, 2024
- ExperiencedTravelers0 contributionsGreat visitWe were able to take a shuttle from the airport hotel. From the drop off point it is about a 15 minute walk. You wonder where you’re going and then all of a sudden you’ve come across a real nice little street with lots of shops. Pretty soon you find the temple on your left. The entire grounds are free and very amazing. You can just wander around and enjoy the history. Unfortunately, most everything is Japanese and the people working there do not speak too much English. We were lucky to get there early, because at 9 o’clock in the morning they have a ritual service. It was extremely interesting! This is a two or three hour excursion, maximum, and very well worth it. We are happy that we went.Written December 15, 2024
- brand0nm0 contributionsExcellent introduction to Tokyo!Yoshio was a fantastic guide. Honestly, I enjoyed talking with him more than the sites we saw. He is 80 but you wouldn’t know it! This was my first time to Tokyo and I only had 2 nights. This tour allowed me to see sights, use the subway, eat the best sushi ever, and make a friend. Strongly recommend. It’s an easy way to get introduced to Tokyo.Written October 18, 2024
- OntarioTraveler90 contributionsSomething to do before flying out of TokyoThis is a great temple located close to the Narita Airport. It will be a nice short trip from the airport to Narita Station, and then a 20-30 minutes walk through the old town to the temple. You should also check to see if the hotel you are staying at Narita to see if they provide shuttle buses to the Narita Station. We are fortunate that our hotel does provide that shuttle. The temple covers a decent area and its buildings are both nice and historical, particularly the pagoda which is very well maintained and colourful. Adjacent to the temple is the garden with pond, waterfalls, pavilion and bridge, and is well worth a walk through.Written September 2, 2024
- 119AngelaD0 contributionsOne Day tour of Nikko from TokyoOur tour guide was Noby Kono. He was a wonderful guide for our Nikko experience. We saw all the wonderful sights and also learned a lot of history along the way. It was nice to have someone with us to select a great lunch option and also provide recommendations on what we should do and how to treat each sight respectfully. I highly recommend this experience and guide!!!Written June 28, 2024
- camilathegreat0 contributionsBeautiful and Historic Kamakura TourMy family and I had a great time on this tour! The Kamakura bus system can be confusing to foreigners and Kono-San did a great job of navigating us through the best parts! He also had great insights into history of the area and Japan overall. We learned a lot! Arigatōgozaimasu! I will note that this is a walking/bus tour so bring comfortable shoes and enough cash for the buses and metro.Written June 16, 2024
- ilokcin0 contributionsIf you only see one temple it should be this one!Beautiful temple and not too busy. Great toilet facitilities right across the road at the Car Parking lot. Busy with school children but they are well behaved (Japanese). Allow 2 hours to walk from one of the regional train stations and to explore all of the Temple grounds.Written May 27, 2024
- evann8840 contributionsA good look at NaraThe trip was interesting and very informative. Our guide was very considerate and helpful. His English was excellent but he spoke softly. He spent time determining just what we wanted to see. He helped us with our ICOCA card and took many photos of us which he transferred to my wife's phone even though it took quite a bit of his time at the end of our tour.Written May 17, 2024
- faustinol4120 contributionsWhy is there no water bus included?Tour guide of city was good. There is no water bus included so this is extremely deceiving. Tour name says “with water bus ride” but is it is not true. We had to pay separately. The English announcements could not be heard at all. Skip TripAdvisor tour and get a private tour without water and pay less.Written April 14, 2024
- Manish G0 contributionsOk, but some nutrition advisablePretty good guide Knowledgeable All day metro ticket included Downside - I would have expected breakfast or lunch or at least even a drink to be included at this price pointWritten March 29, 2024
- wildflowerablaze0 contributionsComprehensiveGreat, comprehensive intro to Japanese history. Shrines and temples beautiful. Fringe benefit of learning how to navigate the train and bus system! Guide was very knowledgeable and patient. I felt like I was traveling with an uncle. Lunch was really good.Written March 10, 2024
- Txnbybirth0 contributionsBeautiful parks, sky tree and a building that looks like beer.Beautiful parks, temples and interesting things to see (a building that looks like a beer mug). Loved the fish market! Maximize your time and skip the water bus ride. They only do it in Japanese so not worth the time.Written March 6, 2024
- nmlhats0 contributionsSweet guide but far from fluent in EnglishI am a travel advisor and accompanied several clients on this tour, which I booked only a couple of days before our flights, so kind of last minute. While our guide was very sweet and friendly, he was in no way equipped to give an informative tour in English. He imparted almost zero information or commentary about the history of the town as we walked through Narita's main street to the temple (Q: Can you tell us about this architecture? A: Traditional house."). He did point at several items displayed in front of shops: "Mochi" "Rice crackers" etc. No real context or narrative. We spent almost two hours at the beautiful Shinshoji temple, but he gave us very little info about its history, life at the temple, only the most basic info about Buddhism, etc. "Pagoda" "Smoke for blessing" "Carp" or Q "What is this building?" A: House. Many houses." Q: "What are the drummers performing or what is the meaning of their performance?" A: "Later." We learned what we could about the temple complex by reading the signs in English. He took us to a local place for lunch and helped us order--it was good. But my clients were dismayed at the language skills of the guide--I won't say his knowledge of the temple was limited, because he is a licensed guide and I am sure he knows plenty. He was just unable to communicate much of anything to us in English. As a travel advisor, it was embarrassing to have this guide with my clients and they let me know their disappointment, but fortunately it was not as expensive as some other similar tours. The worst part is that we had just finished two weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia with some of the best guides I have ever had in my 17 years in this business. So this wasn't a good ending to the trip! The other problem was that somewhere on the Viator listing it said that the tour includes private transport (I have the screen shot). It does not. I am perfectly happy to use the train but we had to scramble at the last minute to find airport lockers for our carry on bags, and the yen coins to put into them (we gave a French couple four euros for 600 yen); and then we had to withdraw 10,000 yen from the ATM to pay for 2300 yen in train tickets--the machine only took cash or a specific Japanese card. It would have been nice to know all of this in advance instead of stressing out and wasting time. The guide was extremely nice and warm, and emailed us pictures of us at the temple, helped us do some good luck things there, and chose a good lunch place, so I'm giving this tour three stars rather than two. I am sure he is a treasure if the clients he is guiding speak Japanese. But the agency who sent him should reconsider sending him out to guide clients in English. It was truly one of the least satisfying and least informative tours I have ever experienced.Written February 5, 2024
- Leisha1160 contributionsgreat tour with an experienced guideKono san did an excellent job taking me around to see all of the sites on my wish list. He was very knowledgable about the history of the places we visited and explained the customs as well. Kono san was also able to find great photo locations. I wouldn't have been able to fit as much into a single day or been able to use the subway so efficiently without his help. It is a great tour for anyone looking to fit as much into a day as possible with an expert guide to help them make the most of the dayWritten November 17, 2023
- ProudPar3nt0 contributionsTour cancelled without an update from company in a timely fashion! We were so excited to take this tour but didn’t get to experience as were informed of no guide 2 hours prior of start time. I was never contacted or emailed regarding any cancellations. I reached out to ask for time of pickup the morning of. The response was that the trip cancelled, can I switch to another day. It was too late to swap to another tour on the same day because all were booked up. I agreed to adjust to the next day and asked if the date change was automatic to the next day. The rep Maya stated no and will confirm my pickup upon booking a new reservation. Unfortunately, there were no available dates for another 48 hours. The options weren’t feasible due to our vacation ending in 48 hours. Had I been notified in a timely fashion I could have possibly found another tour the next day and fulfilled my family’s destination goals. I know things happen but I expected better communication than what I received.Written October 28, 2023
