    Great experience
Really cool experience - got to throw ninja stars and blow darts at targets and learn a lot about the history as well. Well worth it!

    Not authentic
This experience cannot be called « authentic ». It was conducted in a shopping mall and not a historic site and consisted of an explanation by a tour guide with some props and some photo taking opportunity while trying out prop weapons

    Samurai suit
Kind people who were very helpful and informative. Funny “teacher”/guide who told us about samurai history.

    Fun, but short
Loved the experience! However, the waiting was longer than the actual experience. You can't really walk around. They have you just wait in one area. The tea ceremony was short and my group I was traveling with agreed that it seemed expensive for this experience.

    Avoid it
Tourist trap. Very disorganized. Avoid it, not worth the money or the time. They put the kimono on and left me seated on the street for 45 min, no one available to ask what’s next. Terrible experience

    Overrated!
So awful. Incredibly late to start, no apology and the staff’s English was very hard to understand. Avoid!

    A bit busy, but good.
It was good fun, but I didn't expect to be part of a huge group. We all got different color bracelet and it was confusing. We didn't dress up with the rest of the group, which was a bit odd as we stood out then, but we did later in a private room.

    Great meeting with a MAIKO!
We did the meet & greet with a MAIKO (Geiko apprentice) with a translator. It was a very unique experience worth paying for. She did a welcome dance, answered questions for us, played games with some of the guests and the translator explained all about the differences between Geiko and MAIKO. My 12 year old son enjoyed it a lot too! We had booked a walking tour of gion and the meet and greet packaged together, but the walking tour was cancelled due to rain. They refunded us for the walking tour and our experience was amazing.

Lovely informative tour with photo opps!
This activity was a highlight of our time in Kyoto. My group had some stressful travel mishaps and the company was kind enough to allow us to come 1/2 hour late at closing time. We went from hectic and rushed to relaxed and pampered as soon as we arrived. We fully enjoyed getting our hair done and dressed for the tea ceremony as well as the informative cultural learning during the tour. I appreciate the time alllowed for taking pictures too. I would recommend coming before sun down for better photo oops. The Japanese garden outiside the venue is beautiful.

    Terrific and educational time
Our small group had a fabulous time. The tea ceremony was the perfect kick-off and introduction to our time in Kyoto. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in doing something like this.

    Best experience in Kyoto
This was my favorite experience in Kyoto ! Dodo dressed me in a beautiful kimono, took the best photos of me (feel free to use any as promotion for your company), and taught me tea ceremony. Due to no tourist I was so lucky and got a private experience. I felt so elegant and pretty ! I would highly recommend. Thank you so much Dodo~

    Truly an remarkable experience!
Amazing! We started with the Kimono tea ceremony and the care and passion by the staff was incredible! I cannot speak highly enough about the fantastic time we had learning and being apart of such a beautiful culture. They truly gave us a wonderful look into the famous tea ceremony tradition and made us feel so special the entire time. Immediately after, we wanted to continue learning about the history of Japan and had a great time with the staff at the ninja museum. They made it so fun to learn and both locations were extremely accommodating for English speakers. We absolutely loved these experiences and are recommending them to all of our friends visiting the area!

    Amazing
Super friendly staff! The host was amazing and was willing to take all the photos I wanted. The tour was worth it to experience getting to wear samurai armour and learn the about the armour itself.

Apr 2023 • Couples
We were booked by Japan Private Tours which is an upscale outfit and so expected something more. There was what seemed to be a larger group than they are used to handling and it was more about the touristy dressing up in kimonos than it was about interacting with an actual geisha. The "assistants" actually run the show while the geisha (maiko) appears, does a 1 to 2 minute performance, answers max of one question from each guest, then does "tea ceremony" which is basically her sitting in the corner making the tea. The guests have a sweet and matcha put in front of them, the maiko says "enjoy your sweet" finishes prepping her tea and then leaves. The guests are left with the friendly assistant to make their own tea and drink it. And that's it. Most overrated experience we had in Japan.

We had a wonderful, enriching experience at the Tea Ceremony. Firstly, the kind ladies help you pick out your kimono and hair pieces. It took longer than expected to get dressed for the part, about 20 minutes but I really enjoyed the experience of getting ready. My partner also enjoyed, we were separated for this part to allow privacy for men and women to get dressed. We were given the opportunity to take photos in the garden and the hosts helped us take some beautiful shots too. Then onto the tea ceremony. Our host was fantastic. So knowledgeable and clear in her delivery. Her English was excellent. She explained very well about the traditions of the tea ceremony as well as how to actually make the tea. Unfortunately, there was very loud drilling happening from construction site next door which significantly took away from the sense of tranquility and peace. This was quite disappointing and we feel that this should have been highlighted to us prior to booking. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend.

This was one of the best parts of our trip. My boyfriend and I booked an evening slot and were the only ones there at the time. Our host spoke English very well, and it was just really nice to be able to ask her a lot of the cultural questions we’d had after being in Japan for a few days. The kimonos were absolutely beautiful, and we loved learning the significance of the tea ceremony to Japanese culture. 10/10 recommend participating in a tea ceremony if you’re in Kyoto, and absolutely recommend this place.

Absolutely loved the experience - many thanks to Dodo who performed the ceremony and was really kind and patient!
The variety of kimonos was brilliant including hair styling and accessories. Lots of opportunities to take pictures. Great introduction to Japanese traditions in the right setting!

I loved the experience. The host spoke English really well and shared a lot of detail about the local customs. The kimono was wonderful quality with many colour choices. I felt like I could ask any questions and the experience made me appreciate Japanese culture even more. Can't wait to be back

I booked this as a birthday gift for my girlfriend and it was such an amazing experience. Akane was our host and made us feel welcomed as soon as we got there, she helped us in choosing Kimono from the great selection there. She showed us around the beautiful house and let us take lots of photo's in the garden with the hydrangeas and even gave us props like fans and umbrellas. The tea ceremony was really special, with traditional sweets. She answered all of our questions and gave us the history of tea ceremony in great detail. 10/10, would highly recommend this experience to anyone.

This was absolutely perfect. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable. I felt completely at ease the whole time, and if you alone a member of staff will take your picture. I would thoroughly recommend this to everyone who wants to try a kimono experience.

Our teacher, Akane, was amazing! This tea ceremony and kimono wearing was a great opportunity for me and my 8 year old daughter to experience Japanese culture in a private setting. Akane was very detailed, from socks to clothing, to even the intricate hair up-do’s. She explained everything in a fun interesting way about the kimono dresses and the history of the tea ceremony. My daughter was never bored! Akane also took multiple videos and pictures for us. Nothing was rushed. We got to take unlimited pictures and videos, many Mommy and Daughter poses. This will definitely be one of the most memorable Japanese experiences I got to have with me and my daughter.

I really enjoyed wearing a kimono, the host was very friendly throughout the experience of the tea ceremony. It was wonderful to experience and learn about the rich Japanese culture of tea making. Making my own tea was a cool experience. I would highly recommend this experience for those wanting to experience what Japan culture has to offer!
