The highlight of my Japan trip!!!
The epitome of my experience in japan kyoto. The tour guide was really good at giving us the history of maiko and geiko and walking us through the gion area. Then the maiko and geiko welcomed us into the achya where they did a tea ceremony while they answered all of ohr questions and then performed 2 songs sang and played on a traditional insteument by the geiko and dance performace by the maiko. Honestly worth every penny and i would go back and revisit them!! Thank you taka and gorgeous ladies!!!

    Interesting and relaxed.
My guide Saki was fabulous. I had a wonderful time. The bamboo Forrest was lovely as well as lots of other special areas / photo ops. Lunch in a little restaurant ( away from the main drag) was great. I even tried other local delicacies. Very informative guide and we had some laughs.

    A day well spent
We signed up for the 8hour custom tour. Our guide was Saeko and she gave us a great tour of the highlights of Kyoto. We used all modes of public transport, JR trains, private trains, bus, taxis. It was a good insight into understanding the transportation. By ourselves we would take a lot more time figuring things out. She kept our kids involved as well was conscious of them being little and how much they could handle in the 8hours. We did connect via email before the trip and gave her some input into what we wanted to see and asked her for her opinion as well. We started off the day with seeing "must see" places as tourists within Kyoto.. The bamboo grove and area around, golden temple, local shrines. She introduced us to lunch at coco where we ended up going multiple times later. She kept us informed of Japanese culture, history and was very patient with answering all our questions. Later she showed us around central district and took us to the basement food court in the mall. Then we ended in the Gion neighborhood. We definitely got introduced to a lot of day to day living of the local which we would not have not known had we not spent the day with Saeko. It was definitely time well spent with a guide vs trying to do all this by ourselves. Oh and the Strawberry icecream we had with her was delicious :) In case you are the type who likes to have the day planned out please ensure everything is planned in email before you meet the guide. We did plan on few things but kept half of the day open to just go with the flow. It worked out for us. And although 8hrs seem like a long time do note that the places are all far apart and travelling will take up quite a lot of time, so don't expect to cover more than 4-5 spots at best. Rather soak in the places you visit in the day.

    First class Kyoto tour
Our full day tour of Kyoto was brilliant from start to finish. Our guide Kiyoto put together a great plan to see the main attractions. He suggested a great restaurant for lunch where we tried Ramen for the first time. Kiyoto was very friendly and professional. We saw so much more than we would have on our own.

    Amazing day in Kyoto
We had an amazing day in Kyoto with Noriko our tour guide, she was super prepared, patience, kind, she adapted perfectly to our schedule, and since we had limited time in the city she did a real effort to show us the most of Kyoto, she know perfectly how to move in the city and she made our experience in Kyoto wonderful and unique.

    Awesome experience
Awesome tour very insightful in to the world of a geisha. Such a privilege to be able to meet and talk to a geisha and have our photo taken with them. Highly recommend this tour. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Fantastic experience, thank you Ryuki!!!
Our guide, Ryuki, was fantastic. He tailored the perfect itinerary to suit our wishes, had tons of inside knowledge (best approach to avoid crowds, best spots for pictures) and shared fun stories and tidbits as we went. He also took us to a small local restaurant where we had an unforgettable meal. An unexpected bonus — Ryuki is a budding photographer and helped us capture delightful pictures of our family that we’ll treasure forever. I can’t recommend the experience enough!!

    Great experience.
Our guide was extremely good at her job. She was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Geico’s and Maiko’s. The tea serving ceremony and the Music and dance performances were excellent. We will definitely recommend this tour to our family and friends.

A few hours of magic in Kyoto
Our guide, Ayako, taught us all about geishas and their apprentices (maiko). The walk was very pretty among the Japanese cherry trees. The final touch was a visit to a teahouse. The show put on by the maiko named Mako chan was very pleasant and a pleasure to watch. Thank you for these magical hours in your company. Nicolas Lefebvre 07/13/2003 Belgium

Our best day in Kyoto- totally worth it
A great way to see Kyoto. Our guide, Mika, met us at our hotel and had a custom itinerary prepared. She was very polite and very friendly, and although there are lots of great restaurants in Kyoto, and staff are generally polite and do their best even if they don’t speak English, it was a relief to know we would have lunch at a good restaurant and eat with a local. 8 hours is really not enough in a city like Kyoto, but we used it well, and saved so much time not having to find our own way to and around some of the larger sites.

Lovely educational tour with beautiful sites
Absolutely lovely walking tour of the Gion area. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of Kyoto and the culture surrounding the Gion district. I was very honored to be allowed to take part in a traditional tea ceremony and to meet a Geiko and her apprentice Maiko. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see a beautiful historic side of the city!

Excellent Gion experience with the best tour guide - Saki
Our guide Saki was the best. She was enthusiastic about sharing the cultural aspect of the tour and patient with the participants. Really enjoyed our guided walk around Gion. The tea house we went to for the tea ceremony and meiko performance was brand new and beautiful. The owner of the tea house was graceful and welcoming, wanting us to try different types of teas. Our meiko was the best. She was not only beautiful and talented but she also answered all the questions asked of her with poise and patience

We had Kaori lead us on a food tour of Nishiki Market and the gion area. She was a wonderful tour guide that quickly gauged our interests and levels of food comfort (we like to eat) and made on the fly changes. Kaori was very patient as we deviated from her initial tour as we improved with all the wonderful food options. Having done an okay tour in Tokyo Kaori was a blessing to have as a guide. Highly recommend her.

We had a great time on this tour of the Nishiki Market and Gion. Timing seemed very flexible and our guide, Kiyomi, answered our many questions and tailored the tour according to our interests (we ended up being the only people on the tour!). Her English was great and she made the tour fantastic! She even sent emails afterwards with follow-up recommendations. We had no issue finding her at the meeting spot and tried lots of different foods in the Nishiki market. All around great experience!

Nao took me to the market, showing me not only local delicacies that I would have passed by unknowingly, but she also added details on history and culture to this tour. She also managed to cater to my needs and showed me where to buy some items that were on my list for presents and gifts 🙏🏻 thank you! It was great fun and delicious food 😊

The tour was just OK. Disappointing if I’m honest.

The tour was a confusing mixture of activities. While it was framed as a food tour, I honestly learned very little about the food from the guide. While we did stop at 5 locations for food and he did describe what we were eating or drinking, the tour was unengaging and our guide seemed a bit uncertain. There were long stretches of time that we just aimlessly wandered around the market with the guide saying very little. I felt like we could’ve just wandered on our own and achieved a similar outcome.

Comparing to a food tour taken in Tokyo, it was night and day. While our guide for the market was very nice and thoughtful, he didn’t add any stories, personal examples or experiences and if it wasn’t in a flowchart in the guidebook, it wasn’t really talked about.

Looking back, $100 per person was an expensive 3 hr, aimless walk about the market. I would not recommend.

First of all my mom and I are very grateful to have had Naomi as our guide. She was very sweet and considerate of our walking pace and our interests. She was very open and enthusiastic when talking about her own life in Japan and gave us a unique opportunity to understand what it can be like to live in Japan. This tour had great timing. It covered a ton of very interesting landmarks all while eating the best food. It also left a lot of time after to explore the area further.

Aki was wonderful. She took the time to answer many questions on the Japanese culture which was an added bonus. Highly recommend this tour as the market was busy, so this was a great way to get oriented with the market and Kyoto. I also appreciated the small group size. Thank you Travel Japan!

An awesome tour with Chihiro and Nao! They took time to answer questions along the Nishiki route and were polite, fun, and informative! Got to try some awesome food at Nishiki, which we would have never tried had we not been on this tour. Stopped often to allow us to browse the markets. And they went above and beyond after tour ended to help us book a foot massage (after 5 days of constant walking our feet were very tired) nearby (since we don’t speak fluent Japanese). Amazing time- thank you!

Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, she took us to her favorite booths and we ate to our hearts content, including yuba donuts, dashi maki tamago, yuzu daikon tsukemono (pickles), wagyu katsu, grilled eel, fu dengaku and more. Highly recommend for a culinary immersion into Japanese culture with a local guide. You'll learn and experience so much more than you would if you were just walking around the market on your own.

I had an amazing time walking around the Nishiki market, tasting food, and listening to fun facts about the temples we visited. Nao was an amazing guide who was knowledgeable about Japanese cuisine and traditions. My favorite thing about the tour was that many shops we visited offered free tastings. 3 hours just passed in the blink of an eye. Thank you for the experience.

What a great way to explore the Nishiki Market and the unique foods of Kyoto. My guide, ‘Chika’ is from Kyoto and her love of the area and knowledge of its history really came through during the tour. I got to try so many wonderful dishes and explore all the sights and smells of this vibrant market. We also visited a few small shrines/temples and I learned interesting facts about the history of Kyoto. Chika was very inviting and answered all of my many questions. Highly recommend scheduling your tour with Chika of this unique Kyoto market.
