Beginning near the famous Peace Park your guide will take you through the streets and shopping arcades of downtown Hiroshima. Experience local hospitality and try the dishes this city has become famous for across Japan. Of course, we will try classic Hiroshima-Style Okonomiyaki but with your guide, you will also try local snacks and other specialties you’re sure to love. Visit a classic “village-inside-a-building” of teppanyaki yumminess and finish up with a surprising “old-meets-new dessert stop.” Many people know the history of Hiroshima but meeting the people and visiting this city will be an eye-opener. Hiroshima’s commitment to peace around the world has made it one of the friendliest places in Japan. People genuinely want to share their stories, welcome you to their city, and share with you not just the history of this place but show you what the city has become and how it looks into the future.

    Banging food!
All the food was absolutely amazing and Nanako was knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. Managed to snag some nice spots in Dotonbori that weren't even that busy (despite the streets being crowded!). I'm a man who likes my food and I was impressed at the 4 places we went to and that's an impressive feat! If you're new to Japanese food or a seasoned foodie it'll appeal to you.

Good, but not good enough for what we were charged
As this was our first visit to Japan, our travel agent booked this food tour for us and as such, I am writing the review on the basis of not k owing how much it cost. We met our guide at the appointed time and very soon our ‘fellow foodies’ were gathered. One was a web adviser on Japan holidays and the other a travel agent from the Philippines. Our guide was Sandra, originally from Barcelona, but now residing in Japan. Although not a local, Sandra had clearly done her homework, and came across as being quite knowledgeable about Japan, so as well as some culinary knowledge she was able to impart interesting information about the Tokyo area. We stopped at an interesting variety of places, but upon counting back there were 5 stops, one of which was to see a demo of green tee being brewed and another was to see a bakery place at which we were just provided with some history followed by a dry biscuit with the company logo on it. 2 beers or ‘local’ drinks were provided. We enjoyed the overall experience and guide Sandra was good but on writing the review and looking up the price….£186 per person, I was shocked and am unable to recommend as good value.

    eye opening experience
our guide Ray brought us to interesting places around Shinguku, definitely not your typical tourist destination. it was good to immerse in the local food culture of Tokyo as well as seeing and experiencing traditional Izakaya's that have been around for decades. Ray was also quite knowledgeable on local customs as well as dining etiquette. ending the night at the local art bar was a fun ending to the tour. highly recommended

Food tour through Dotonbori taking in food amongst the new and historical area
Excellent, informative tour from guide Chiyoe who even offered to take my wife who was unable to attend, on the following day. A great introduction to the wide variety of typical Japanese foods in the vibrant Dotonbori area, favourite was the Tokoyaki - 'Oishi desu'

Highly recommend the Pontocho area food tour
We did the Pontocho area food tour with Hiro and absolutely loved it. This was one of my favorite experiences during our three-week trip to Japan full of many experiences. Hiro shared the history of the area and answered all my questions! We got to practice speaking a little Japanese and of course the food was amazing. Sometimes, while traveling, it can be challenging knowing which restaurants will have the best food and the shortest wait times. It was great having a guide to show us some great places to go back and eat again. It wasn't just good food... it was also great vibes.

Fantastic Introduction to Japanese Food with a Great Guide
This was a fantastic introduction to Japanese food. We are complete novices on Japanese food and our guide, Trevor, introduced us to lots of lovely dishes that we would never have tried. One of us has a shellfish allergy and Trevor was so careful to keep this in mind when recommending options. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with a very knowledgeable and personable guide, Trevor. We would recommend highly.

History and new foods - a complete experience!
Alejandra took my daughter and I on this walking tour our 2nd day in Tokyo, felt like we were getting to know Asakusa, plus info re other areas of Tokyo with a good friend. The walk was not too long for us, full of history, religion and knowledge of Japan, the Shrine in the evening was super special, the food was yummy comfort food, drinks overflowing (if you want), loved the new snacks we tried (and bought to take home) - just a fun, relaxing, easy night to begin our Japan adventure. The photos of the 2 of us were special too! Thanks Alejandra and Arigato Tours! (PS we paid $120usd each, not 230+ ea).

Jacob will make your evening memorable!
Jacob our guide was simply amazing. He was knowledgeable, fun and passionate. We had an amazing time tasting delicious food, learning about the neighborhood and Japanese culture but also having fun, drinking and singing karaoke. His English is impeccable and his enthusiasm for food and Japan is contagious! A must do while in Tokyo.

A great time for first timers.
Our tour was great. Sebastian was engaging and informative. We went around to enough places to get a nice sampling of the area and the local food, but not so many that we were exhausted. The food choices were wonderful. We'd definitely do another tour in the future.

In Kytoto do the Pontocho tour, skip the Gion kaiseke
We did two "foodie" tours in Kyoto with Arigato. The Gion tour with Kaiseke was a complete bust and not value for money - give it a miss, but the Pontocho Alley tour was a winner. Our guide was Thomas and he was terrific. We experienced a wonderful variety of food and enjoyed some cultural history as well.

    Highly recommend!
My parents and I really enjoyed the Tsukiji market tour with Sandra and Makki! This was one of the things I was looking forward to in my first visit to Japan, and I am glad to have done it -- not only do we get to try the sumptuous seafood (which of course was expected), we also get a primer on both the history and culture surrounding this humble little market. I guess we were also lucky to have both Sandra and Makki along as they're able to provide both a foreign and native perspective to the experience. As a result, we enjoyed Tsukiji so much that we visited the place 2 more times on our own just to make the most out of our brief stay!

    An amazing experience
Kay is a gifted tour leader. She struck up a strong rapport with us and quickly worked out our interests. She guided us around the market picking out delicious local delicacies for us to experience. The oysters were amazing. She added thoughtful touches to the tour and we learned about the Japanese language and customs as well as the cuisine culture. At the end she provided a wonderful picnic of some of the food she had picked with us and it made a lovely ending to a memorable morning. Initially we had not been sure about the tour but Kay made it one of the best things we have done on our holiday so far.

    Incredible Time Experience Local Cuisine
Had the most incredible time on a retro food tour of Osaka with Akiko! Not only did we have some incredible bites, like okonomiyaki, udon and kushikatsu, we were able to experience local games and shops (we loved the demonstration at Tower Knives so much, we went back the following day to purchase a set)! Akiko was really informative and really showed us a part of Osaka that we would've otherwise missed. Eternally grateful for such a fun experience!

Fun family food tour in Ginza neighborhood!
We had an amazing food tour with Arigato Travel last night in the Ginza neighborhood. Our guide, Kaz, was fantastic, highly recommend him! We got so many cultural insights and tips, as well as eating some delicious snacks and meals! A highlight for us was the stop at a small Okinawan restaurant, where we were treated to incredible tasty food and a cool atmosphere (and an unexpected live musical performance) that we never would have found on our own. We also really enjoyed the dessert stop for seasonal daifuku mochi that was so yummy! We really appreciated Kaz's relaxed but informative style; my kids (16 and 13) enjoyed learning from him. Would definitely recommend this tour and Kaz in particular to English speakers who want to get a sense of the food scene in Tokyo.

The Best of Hiroshima Food Tour was a fun and filling experience! Tetsuo's pride and excitement for his town's food and drinks were clear from the onset. This tour ended up being a private tour - at no extra cost to us - which made it even more personalized. That said, this being our second experience with Arigato, it would not have made a huge difference because Arigato's guides are always attuned to the current group they are leading. Thank you, Tetsuo, for a terrific experience.

Wonderful! So glad you enjoyed it. We wish we had 10 Tetsuo's in Hiroshima as he is a superstar! Glad you had a nice evening. AND thank you for the kind comment about our other guides as well on your previous tours!

We had a wonderful, delicious tour of Hiroshima food stops with guides Miyako and Masako from this company. We learned about many aspects of what we were eating and drinking, and their choices of stops were well-planned and creative. We did not know you could buy both momiji manjyu cakes and real oysters from vending machines, for example! The choice of the Okonomiyaki restaurant could not have been better - so very delicious and an incredibly friendly and warm family cooking for us - it was absolutely delightful. Our whole evening was wonderful and lots of fun. We highly recommend this company.

There were no group tours available so I emailed Arigato and they very quickly responded and organised a private tour for me.
I Had a brilliant tour with Tetsuo-san, visiting some funky places (soy sauce popcorn and retro games anyone?!) as well as trying some more traditional snacks and drinks. Tetsuo-san was super knowledgeable, as well as very friendly and easy to talk to. The three hours flew by. I highly recommend this tour, everything about it was great, and I really appreciated the small tweaks for my pescatarian preference.

All of us had a great time chatting and visiting several interesting places. I liked the Iyokan(citrus)tonic(a soft drink) very much. The taste was good and the story how it was grown and made was fascinating. Thank you Arigatou Japan and the tour guides for the day!!

Great experience even with small kids! Lots of food. Guide was helpful and organized. Husband also did one in Osaka that was really good without kids given later at night. Great communication across the board on where to meet. Highly recommend!

The food tour was wonderful!
Olivia was great and we throughly enjoyed the food. She was very thoughtful about taking us to a variety of restaurants, giving us an opportunity to try much of what Hiroshima has to offer.
We were paired with a couple from Australia and they were a lot of fun.
