There was a lot of spicy and hot street food to enjoy. My host was knowledgeable about Kunming and very proud of their city. It was a great half-day spent enjoying this vibrant and noisy city. The weather is always good in Kunming too.

I have approached 51 Adventures with my strong desire of visiting several minority tea plantation villages and learn about Yunnan tea. Sarah arranged us a perfect guide, who is knowledgeable about tea, tea production, tea farmers as well as local culture, food and history. I learned so much from this experience and big THANK YOU to Sarah and our guide.

Booked a customized tour for solo travel through Yunnan province, China to visit two World Heritage listed sites (Stone Forest and the Hongye Hani rice terraces) and explore Pu'er tea culture. Sarah was very responsive to my communication and assisted me in putting together an itinerary that met all my needs. My arrival into Kunming was delayed by several hours and yet a driver was still there (at 2:30 AM!) to take me to my hotel. My driver/guide was Sunny, who could not have been a better choice for me. He owns a tea plantation, is extremely knowledgeable about tea growing, processing, regional qualities, history and tea culture. I visited tea plantations - wild arbor and plantation style - and took a very comprehensive tour of the Ancient Road for Tea and Horse Park in Pu'er. I drank Pu'er tea until late with the farmers of small plantations, also at large scale processors and in tea houses scattered over each city. Experienced the Water Splashing Festival in Xishuanbanna. Visited tiny tofu manufacturing factories in little side streets. I ate street food or dined in minority (Hanni, Dai etc.) restaurants, rather than "safe" stylish places. Sunny knew many street vendors, back alley dives and minority dining spots. The food was stunning and I was humbled by people's generosity to me in these dining spots. Owners or fellow diners often giving me additional food to try due to my evident interest. Nothing was off limits -from bamboo grubs and duck heads to stinky tofu. All the hotel stays that 51 Adventures organized were terrific. (It's hard to beat a 700 year old Qing Dynasty villa or a hotel overlooking one of the most breathtaking rice terrace views in the world). Sunny was very accommodating, patient, informative and spoke good English. My only suggestion is that Sarah provide a more secure payment method than either a private bank account in Hong Kong or a cash transaction (which is what I selected). $2,500 in RMB is a thick wad of cash! Having said that, the estimates for petrol, tolls and attraction entries were pretty much right on the money. I would use 51 Adventures again and I would also recommend them for customized tours. Very good value

We were so impressed with 51 Adventures, from our first email contact with Sarah to saying good bye to Sunny after a memorable 4 days. We started with a pick up in Kunming, the Stone Forest, a night in Jianshu then 2 nights at the rice terraces before we returning to Kunming. Sunny firstly was an incredibly safe driver, not once did we feel he took a chance or “that was close”, he was also a great English speaking guide showing us some amazing sights and providing just the right amount of information. However the biggest plus for us was that he was a lovely young man and his company was a delight.Thank you Sarah and Sunny. PS Don’t forget to email the photos Sunny.

November is a fantastic time to visit Yunnan. Sarah was very helpful and quick with answering my questions in preparation for the trip. Our drivers were very skilled and the ride was smooth and comfortable. Recommended for sure.

We did 2 tours with 51 adventures. The first was to the Stone forest and the rice terraces. Our guide and driver, Gavin, was excellent and spoke good English. He offered us felixibility on the programme and we fitted in so many visits to places we had not expected. Our first nights stay was in Jian Shui, a lovely old town and Gavin recommended good place to eat and also told us about the early morning bird market, which was well worth seeing. The trip to the Rice Terraces was lovely, Gavin showed us good places for watching sunset and sunrise and also suggested a good walk through the terraces that we especially enjoyed. The accommodation arranged by Sarah was great. Gavin was also an excellent and safe driver, which was very important on the difficult narrow mountain roads. Our second tour was the 2 day Dongchuan Redlands tour, which was again excellent. Our guide was Joe, and again he worked hard to ensure we had a good experience, taking us to good sunrise and sunset viewing spots. The scenery was lovely and great to get out of the city into the beautiful Yunnan countryside on both trips. 51 adventures may not be the cheapest tour company, but the service provided, the standard of accommodation arranged and the quality of the guides make the cost worthwhile. Would recommend.

We would highly recommend 51 Adventures to anyone wanting a safe and hassle free experience in Kunming and Lijiang. From the time we initiated the conversation, Sarah responded promptly with suggestions and quotations. We used their services from the time we arrived in China till we departed. In Kunming, our driver cum guide Timmy showed us around the Stone Forest and even recommended a famous 'Duck' local restaurant for lunch, which was interesting. However, it was our driver cum guide Andy in Lijiang who left the best impression of China. He was patient, knowledgeable and considerate. He managed to get us very good seats for the Impressions Show, organised a tea appreciation session and even advised against making a potentially wrong porcelain purchase! From the onset, English was the main language of communication and we hardly encountered any miscommunication. Cars used were clean and driving, safe.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Shangri-La and Yubeng regions of Yunnan for 8 days during September with the one and only Sarah. Sarah was amazing with helping me pre-plan my itinerary and then was a great tour guide giving a nice blend of guidance and free time. We would highly recommend 51 Adventures for anyone visiting Kunming and Yunnan Province! Our 17-year old son travelled to Kunming by himself to attend a Chinese language school for two weeks. Since there were no classes or activities on the weekend, we reached out to Sarah at 51 Adventures for help with only a few days advance notice. She responded quickly and designed two customized day trips for our son (Stone Forest, Cave, and other Kunming attractions) that perfectly matched his schedule, budget and needs. The day trips were a big success, and he had a great time! Sarah and her team were very friendly, professional, and responsive, and we would not hesitate to use them again.

I’m working in a photography project all around China, traveling to remote places by myself, so sometimes can be hard to find the perfect spot, light, speak in Chinese... luckily I had Sarah from 51 Adventures to help with all of this. Very flexible with the schedule, she drove me from the airport to different amazing places (and she even knew good photography spots for each kind of light!). We both had some fun taking pictures, and she even took nice pics of myself! Astonishing experience thanks to the kind and friendly guide. Only good vibes and good memories of this trip, I wish I could have in my life always a guide like Sarah :)

This year we wanted to return on holiday to Yunnan and booked of course again with Sarah. Our guide was Sunny. Both get the best grades without restrictions! Uncomplicated booking, competent selection of sights, safe driver, well-founded background knowledge! And the best: Sunny runs a tea farm in the mountains near Xishuangbanna. There we were even allowed to pick tea ourselves and observe the tea processing. A great experience, rounded off by tea tastings. Environmental friendly, countryside, hiking. My wife and I just got back from a great trip to Yunnan province that 51 Adventures helped to arrange and guide. We had one guide in Kunming, Andrew, who took us around the region. Sarah also met us in Kunming to make sure all was well. Then we took the overnight train from Kunming to Dali. A driver met us there, took us to our hotel, and Andy (our second guide) met us later that morning. for about a week, he took us from Dali to various villages, cities and sites until we ended up in Shangri La. Both guides/drivers were great at both. Careful drivers, great English, knowledgeable about the region and the people. Took us to places not in the tour books and they understood our interests so directed the tour towards those. A wonderful trip. Thank you Sarah, Andrew and Andy.

Visited Kunming, Lijiang and Dali with my mother and girlfriend from January 14-19. Communication with Sarah was extremely easy and everything went smooth. Our guide Andy truly made our experience great as he was extremely professional, timely and had profound knowledge of the Yunnan history and the various ethnic groups - could not have asked for a better guide. Would 100% recommend and hope to be back one day.

We picked 51 adventures based on TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. Sarah was very responsive even though she was away on holidays and organized our itinerary for Dongchuan red land, providing us with a driver and accommodation. Our driver Louis was a young man who spoke excellent English, even Sarah herself conversed very well in English. Everything was conveniently arranged and Sarah came across knowledgeable and dependable. Won’t hesitate to recommend 51 Adventures.

We traveled with 51 Adventures in Yunnan. Sarah helped us with many advices before our tours, we contacted many times by e-mail and WhatsApp. She was very communicative and helpful. Thanks for all helps for her. Then we met with Chen, our driver in Kunming. He had a beautiful, clean comfortable car. Chen is an excellent and funny man, good driver, and all trip care us as a guide, however we asked only a transfer from point-to-point. He always helped us to buy the tickets (it is not easy in China, 'cause they don't speak English) and help us with advices. On the first day we visited Shilin Stone Forest and Jiuxiang Scenic Area (it is a must-to-see place, however it is not so famous like Stone Forest, it is the most beautiful cave that I've ever seen). When we had to wait so long time for the cableway, Chen came up for us to the end of route and find us, because he was nervous about that we could not find the way to ticket office and cableway (it was not easy). He's an excellent man. Then we said good bye for two days, we went to Dali and Lijiang by our own, by flight. We met in Lijiang again, he traveled there by train and rented a car. It was a Skoda Yeti, it was very good for two of us and I love SKODA (I have two Skodas at home). We spent two beautiful days together, visited Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Blue Moon Valley and Baishu RIver are beautiful), we had a trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge (it was full of adventure, the road is in terrible condition), and Shangri-La. These days were excellent, full of fun and laughing, during we visited beautiful places. Chen was always partner in some fun, he was very helpful. We will never forget these days together with him. If you want more than a simple driver in Yunnan, if you want good advices, choose 51 Adventures and if you are lucky, you will meet Chen. Thanks for all Sarah and Chen
