Your tour guide will greet you in Grand Noble Hotel at 8:00 a.m! After a brief introduction to the tour, we will head to a crowded morning market filled with daily necessities. Like an open-aired grocery store, the shopping here is the central feature of the local’s daily life. It is the most active and lively part of the downtown shanty district. The crowds move through the middle of the street with vendors standing behind their booths, loudly selling their wares. It is bustling with people buying goods and at the same time bargaining vigorously. Immersed in this environment you may be forgiven for thinking you were in the centre of a bazaar in a Middle-eastern country. It’s the beating heart of a quiet and decrepit district nestled within the city wall. Walking from the market to a public bus station, we will catch a bus for a short ride to the next stop - Xi’an City Wall. It is the biggest and one of the best preserved city walls in China and cycling on this 640 year old wall is always considered one of the most enjoyable and unforgettable experiences in the city. You will see a large section of the city and also bump up your knowledge of this ancient city from our most devoted tour guide accompanying you on the cycle route. Following the one hour bike ride you will be guided to a quaint cultural street exuding an aura of calm. Buildings are in an ancient Chinese architectural style and the vendors trade a variety of writing brushes, papers and stone seals. Traditional Chinese paintings and calligraphy works can be browsed everywhere along the street. There are galleries and antique shops as well as many interesting workshops hidden down narrow alleyways. Strolling down the street will give you an authentic taste of the culture and history of the city. But more importantly our calligraphy master is waiting to impart his knowledge and guide our hands as we practice this ancient art. So, why not join us?

          Vegetarian food tour
I booked this tour through Viator and on that day I was the only person on the tour, so I had a delightful 3 odd hours with Michael. We walked around town and also caught a couple of tuktuks. Michael was a great host and attuned to my preferences. I also enjoyed his stories about his youth growing up in a rural area. We had many dishes, snacks and more substantial ones as well. The traditionally vegetarian dishes like the liang pi cold noodles and the traditional non-meat version of the Xian "hamburger"(rou jia mo) were a revelation. Michael shared the food with me and I found that a nice touch, more like eating with a friend. I've been on other food tours where the guide doesn't eat(for good reason, if they're running lots of food tours) and it always seems a bit awkward. We were very full by the end of the tour so come with an empty stomach. I would certainly recommend this tour for vegetarians and those like myself who prefer a plant rich diet.

A fantastic private and bespoke day tour of Xian
We had a fantastic private day tour with our family of 5 (3 teenagers) and Michael with the driver Mr Wong. The tour consisted of Xian City Wall, Muslim Quarter and the Terracota Warriors , with lunch at an authentic restaurant trying the famous Biang Biang noodles. Everything was bespoke to our needs as our son has severe autism, ADHD, and all 3 kids with nut allergy. Michael made sure all the scheduling was as perfect as we could imagine it . The tour was made as comfortable as it could in the heat of summer at 35 degrees ! We even cycled a.section of the Xian wall to the kids delight. We would highly recommend Lily's tour with Michael ! Thanks for a perfect day.

          Excellent guide and private tour
We had an excellent private tour to see the Terracotta warriors, arranged by Lily and led by guide Michael. Michael was very knowledgeable about historical topics and enthusiastically shared information with us. He and driver Mr. Wang both worked hard to optimize our time and were very flexible to our requests. Upon their suggestion, we added a stop at the Tomb of Emperor Jingdi, which was worthwhile and also interesting. We were so pleased that we added an extra day of private city tour with Michael, which was also wonderful. He again shared lots of insights and was flexible to our interests, and took us to spots and eateries we would not have found. Highly recommend Lily’s tours and guide Michael!

Memorable two days private Heritage Tour with Lily’s Private Tours!!
We book a two days Heritage Private Tour from 12-13 June 2024 with Lily’s Travel. Communications with Lily was pleasant via WeChat the moment we arrived at Xi’an the day before the tour. Our guide for the two days tour was Michael Chang. Michael is well-versed in the history of Xi’an and shared with us many interesting facts of the places we visited, as well as the history of the various dynasties that made Xi’an their capital. The temperature of our two days tour were at 40 over degrees but Michael was able to cover all the places of interests and plan the travel so that we were able to be well rested in between and not be affected too much due to the heat. Michael also went over and above by adding on the itinerary such as letting us experience the morning market of the local people along our way to view the City Walls…. and bringing us to the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City on the 2nd day of our tour. Overall, we are very delighted with Michael as our guide, as well as being thankful to the great driving skills of Mr. Ma, our driver for keeping us safe during the course of our two days tour. They made our trip to Xi’an a really memorable and happy travel. Highly recommend booking Lily’s Private Travel for their high level of service!

          Xi’an with Michael
I have never been so keen to write a review after my travels as I am today to say a little something about Michael, my tour guide in whom I have discovered a brother and a friend! Michael is exceptionally knowledgeable about Chinese history, and his impeccable narratives on the rich past of Xi’an will create a sense of awe and wonder in you as you navigate the ancient capital of China with him. Michael is kind, patient and sensitive to your needs and preferences as a tourist. He will bring you to the best places to eat, shop and walk around and soak into the vibrant cultural scene of the city! I highly recommend Lily Tours and Michael to you for an unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

          Outstanding food tour experience
Lily arranged a fantastic food tour for us with Michael. He was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and great with our children. The food was outstanding and there was so much! I would do this tour every day if I could. Though I’d probably need a whole tuktuk to myself after a while!!

          Great Experience in XiAn
We had Cathy as our tour guide for 2 days in Xi’An. She was really patient with telling us stories on ancient Chinese history and how Xi’an was an important capital city for many dynasties. She also recommended us some really good local cuisines over the 2 days. We had a really good time overall!

          Definitely best tour in town
Cathy did a spectacular job at showing us around the Terracotta army and Xi'An. Very knowledgeable, engaging and helpful - her style is excellent for getting a real understanding of the area, history, people and culture.

Too much too offer, too slow to absorb
Overall, China has too much too offer and we just can't absorb so much with such little time. Depends on individual, Lily Private Tours is slightly cheaper and worth every cent of the tour. A bit different from the other tours, the tour guide Jack (English speaking tour guide) guided us every second and explain every inch of the place we go (normally tour guide will introductory explain and you are ask to roam around). Apart from over-crowded and over-whelming knowledge input and the city jam, it was a good healthy tour, For the agency, believes the owners very attentive and ensure all your target are fulfils. We only miss our Panda tour (due to gov sudden closure) and the day tour was a bit abrupt, apart from that, the tour was great

          Day in Xi'an
I had an excellent day with Jackie on this amazing tour. He was very informative and able to speak to with ease as there was a driver. Jackie was very knowledgeable about the sites visited, and also about life in Xi'an . The Hangyaling museum was very interesting and very evocative and not at all busy. In contrast, the visit to the terracotta warriors was very crowded, but Jackie was extremely helpful in helping me negotiate the crowds and deal with tickets, gates etc. The lunch and cave house were also both enjoyable. Thank you Jackie for an excellent day!

Terracotta Army site & museum, Ancient City Walls, Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Muslim Quarter and shopping for a camera
Lily is an extraordinary guide, her deep knowledge of Xian and surroundings, their history and their landmarks, her excellent English and friendly personality made the tour very enjoyable ... in addition Lily went way beyond her duty to help me solve problems unrelated to her tour ... I had broken my main camera in Taipei and wanted find a possible replacement ... Lily found a well stocked photography store (not easy in a country where most people think cell phones are cameras) which carried the brand I wanted and also shipped a couple of museum guide books back to me in Canada (which involved packaging the books and handling the post office/customs forms) ... this was a BIG contribution to make my visit to Xian a very special trip that I will always remember ... Lily also has a very good driver with a clean and modern vehicle ... Josef Hochleitner, Toronto

Ride the Tuktuk and taste Xi’an food
This is my second food tour in Xi’an and Buren, our tour guide took me to many places and tasted many dishes. All is good. It’s one of the best way to try the Xi’n tastes on Tuktuk.

          Excellent experience, highly recommend!
Michael is a walking encyclopaedia. Throughout the tour, he did not miss a beat to provide us with the most precious details behind every artefact, site or monument. The rich knowledge of history as well as the convenient transportation made this tour one that I can recommend to anyone visiting Xi’an.

          Extremely fascinating tour
Extremely fascinating and well organized tour. The explanations of our guide Michael were very interesting, he speaks very good English and is familiar with thousends of years of Chinese history. He's also a very nice person. The Terracotta Army is one of the most impressive things you can ever see and experience, but without Michael's explanations the experience would not have been half as deep. The museum is also worth seeing (and one of the few sightseeing spots in China where you don't have to fight your way through crowds). And the lunch with the freshly prepared noodles tasted good, too. We can only recommend this tour.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time with Michael for our Bike tour and Calligraphy lesson! It started with a lot of great info about the wall and the history behind it, and also getting to know our guide and friend! We won’t spoil too much of the fun but it was a long 14km ride around the wall! It was a lot of fun and by the end of the biking we were beat. Perfect for sitting down for an hour to learn some of the basics of calligraphy! The calligraphy master was very kind and we made some pretty decent pieces at first, but it wasn’t until after that that our trip was topped of by having a bowl of biangbiang noddles that Michael showed us, it was really special and Michael made the trip very enjoyable. We were sad to have to leave his company but he had many restaurant suggestions handy for us afterwards! And Michael knows all the great spots. Thanks again to Michael for an amazing day, best of luck! And to you reading looking for a trip, this is one you will not want to pass up on!

I was apparently the first person to take this tour, but I really should not be the last. We started with a trip to a morning market and my guide (Harvey - excellent) explained many of the local foods; where the food was from; and so on. A nice way to start the day, including a quick look at a nearby mosque, which looked just like a Buddhist temple. Then we made our way to the city wall, where Harvey gave me a quick history, and then we got on our bikes, literally. We did three-quarters of the wall, with stops to look at the views. Then we took a bus to a small shopping complex, where we met Mr Chong, who is apparently a noted calligrapher, and Harvey's colleague, Andy. The three gamely tried to show me the basics of calligraphy; I confess I was just terrible, which we all found pretty funny. But Mr Chong did my name in Chinese (I paid 100 yuan to have it done on special paper) and we enjoyed some local tea. The whole thing lasted about 5 hours, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Many thanks to Harvey and Andy, who were both lovely. Highly recommended.
