About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Roam310949194410 contributionsThank you RosaTour was excellent. Rosa (Ms Wang) is AMAZING. Rosa communicated clearly and eloquently in English and Chinese. Her English in particular I found was probably the best of all our tours in China - because she is very clear and paces her content well. It felt like how a teacher approaches content and I really enjoyed her little stories, examples and info about many elements of the TerraCotta army that I would not have found in a lot of books. We had 2 adults and 2 bi-lingual kids and we all felt included in the stories and little details about Xian and the terracotta soldiers. You seamlessly communicated in both languages and I appreciated that immensely. Thanks Rosa for your professionalism and advice in Xian. It was a great trip and our whole family loved the tour. Good luck to you all!Written October 3, 2024
- Martin Kenneth L0 contributionsUnforgettable Experience in Xi'an with MariaOur trip to Xi'an was fantastic, and Maria made it even better! She was not only patient with us but also super helpful, making sure we got the most out of every place we visited. From the major attractions to local spots off the beaten path, Maria knew exactly where to take us. Her guidance made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. If you're planning to visit Xi'an, you can't go wrong with Maria as your guide!Written October 1, 2024
- marianacR7116KW0 contributionsBeautiful tour! The tour was unbelievable! Thanks to our local guide Maria who was excellent at showing us the best there is to know in Xi’an city. She was patient and so kind, thanks to Catherine Lu Tours we are having the best time in China!Written October 1, 2024
- jeffreypk040 contributionsVery good experienceMy friends and I had an amazing time in Xi'an, all thanks to Maria! She was incredibly patient and ensured that we were comfortable throughout the trip. Maria took us to all the must-see places and even some hidden gems we wouldn't have discovered on our own. Her knowledge of the city and her friendly demeanor made the experience truly unforgettable. I highly recommend Maria if you're looking to explore Xi'an in the best possible wayWritten October 1, 2024
- Y195RQisabelr0 contributionsAmazing experience! Do not wait….enjoy life!We had an amazing experience with our tour guide Amber in Xi’an! She took us to explore the Terracotta Warriors and all the incredible sights around the area. She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and patient throughout the entire tour. We truly loved every moment of it. Thank you so much for making our visit unforgettable!Written September 27, 2024
- carmenisa20160 contributionsA must visitThe place is rammed with people jostling for photo space but is a spectacular museum. Rosa was a really informative guide sharing the history and culture from a local perspective which made the experience more interestingWritten September 23, 2024
- H6529JQlucam0 contributionsGreat experience visiting Xi’an terracotta armyRosa was a very good guide, very kind and helpful, she patiently and clearly explained a lot of information about Chinese and xi’an history. The tour is well organised and we were able to see everything and return on schedule.Written September 23, 2024
- pauloeduardod1970 contributionsIf you are lucky you will get Julia as the guideThis place deserves to be a UNESCO protected site. It is truly amazing and at the same time mysterious. One can only imagine if the farmer had not hit the exact location of one of the soldiers, we would not see this marvelous work of art. That said, to comprehend better the history here, you need a great guide and we were lucky to get Julia to teach us about this place during the full day. She knows her work and along of that, she also is so kind and patient. This was a great day because of her his work.. now, her driver is a bit crazy, but she got us there and back still alive :)Written September 16, 2024
- ca_fanatic040 contributionsExcellent tourRichard is very knowledgeable and friendly with kids and my kids love him too! We visited Teracotta museum of warriors and horses, Great wall and Muslim quarters. We learnt alot from him in terms of Chinese history and culture. He expertly navigate through crowded areas and ensure we keep up with the pace and that no one is left behind. He is fluent with English and patiently helped us with translation with the locals. Thank you Richard and his partner driver!Written September 10, 2024

If you are lucky enough to get to meet her, you will not regret your booking! Thanks Amber, can’t wait to come backWritten August 31, 2024
- 533rainera0 contributionsOutstandingJulia is a very knowledgeable guide, she speaks impeccable English. We could really enjoy the terracotta warriors, as Julia was really good at sneaking us around and through the big crowds. She had interesting information to share on all the exhibitions, their backgrounds and Chinese history in general, and put the exhibitions in context. She encouraged asking questions of any kind, which she could always answer. The fun side stories she told, contributed to a pleasant experience. She was also very friendly and up for jokes.Written August 28, 2024

- andreasmB8706AK0 contributionsMust do in Xi'anEverything went as good as it could be. We where picked up at time in our hotel lobby by Agnes. We had our private driver and Agnes told us everything we asked. They even made a stop at a pharmacy when my fiance didn't feel so well. The terracota warriors where very interesting. Despite the many many people there we got a lot of informationa from Agnes, who is a chinese-history teacher when she is not working as guide. The pagoda and the city wall wheren't as crowded as the terracota warriors site. Very interesting places with a lot of history! All in all an amazing day with an excellent tour guide!Written August 18, 2024

I had a very enjoyable time in Xi'an thanks to my guide, Cindy (aka. Sunday)! Even though it rained most of the day, we were still able to visit all places we planned and enjoy the city. Cindy is a very nice gal and an excellent guide. Everthing you read in previous reviews about Sunday is true. Easy to talk to and always ready to share her thoughts and insights. The food she recommended was also very good and she even helped me find some souvenirs to bring back home. Totally recommended!

OK, I'm going to give you the real deal regarding your trip to Xi'an and China. If English is your primary language and you're going to Xi'an, then the only Tour Guide you want is Sunday, yes her name is Sunday, through Catherine Lu Tours Xi'an. Many people provide reviews and say their guide spoke english well, however that's not exactly true - most can speak english somewhat, it's a little hard to understand and it's not conversational english, so if you ask a question, they really don't understand, they have a script to tell and they can't deviate from the script. And the tour guides have a tendency to repeat themselves over and over again because they feel they need to say something but they don't have anymore facts or good information to tell you. However Sunday has been to the US for an extended stay and takes American Universities Professors/Students to Western China along the Silk Road, so her command of the english language is outstanding and she understands everything you ask her. Additionally, she knows many more facts than other tour guides and doesn't repeat herself. If you're interested, and me and my daughter wanted to learn as much as possible, in addition to telling you about the sites you visit, Sunday will talk to you about old China and new China the entire time you're in the van traveling from site to site. When we were done with Sunday's tour both me and my daughter felt like we had a wonderful understanding of Xi'an (which was my favorite city until we arrived in amazing Shanghai). Me and my daughter were in China touring for 12 days and went to 5 cities. I booked a total of 15 tours via Trip Advisor/Viator for our time in China and Sunday was the best tour guide we had over the entire trip. Don't get me wrong, we had some other very good tour guides like "River" in Chengdu (Lost Plate Food Tours), but that was an evening tour by Tuk Tuk and he has a day job so he only tours at night (He went to college in Singapore and lived in that english speaking nation for 9 years), and Sunday's english is just as good if not better. In addition, she goes the extra mile to take great care of you. My daughter is a vegetarian and I'm not, so on the way to lunch Sunday had the driver pull over, ran across a busy street to get my daughter a vegetarian burger (which was delicious - no not like an American burger - this is made with sautéed vegetables on delicious flat bread) and while I was watching my daughter eat her burger in the van on our way to lunch, I mentioned to my daughter I had seen the Xi'an Burger the night before at a restaurant we went to but with sliced beef. Next thing I know the van is stopping again and she's off to get me a beef burger and I didn't even know she could hear me. Next thing I know I'm eating a hot beef burger, yes.... on "the way to lunch"!!! Then at lunch she wanted us to try different foods so she ordered like 3 entrees each for my daughter (vegetarian) and myself (with pork and beef) - there was enough food on the table to feed 8+ people and it was just the 3 of us. The restaurant she selected wasn't just a side street place (nothing against them we had some great meals at local places) but this was one of the nicest restaurants we went into during our entire stay in China.... I wish I would have selected this tour for both our days in Xi'an, then I would have had Sunday take us to the Terracotta Warriors and the other places we went with a different Tour Guide. After the tour she friended my daughter on WeChat (China's Text Messaging App) and sent us pictures she took of us during our trip together. She also gave us her contact info and said that if we need an interpreter during the remainder of our trip in China to just give her a call and she'll talk to whoever via the phone on our behalf. The next morning when we left Xi'an, she was texting us information about our flight and how to navigate our way through the airport in order to get our flight to Guilin. Both my daughter and myself look forward to returning to China within the next few years to take Sunday's tour along the Silk Road..... Sunday, thank you for the wonderful insight into your city of Xi'an and we look forward to seeing you in the future. Gary

I had the opportunity to visit Xi'an for work and had an extra day on the weekend to do some site seeing. Normally I am pretty self sufficient and can figure out how to visit the different sites with guide books. In this case I decided to use a guide to navigate the city and to help with the language. It was a great investment. Not only did the guide, May, do a great job getting me and my co-workers around the city but gave us great insight into the history and culture of Xi'an and China. We went to the Wild Goose Pagoda, 8 Immortal Temples, the wall around Xi'an, and one of the local markets where we tried many different and wonderful foods from the surrounding region. May and the driver took care of everything that day so we didn't have to worry about transportation, parking, planning, etc. And it was a personal tour so all of our questions were answered to our satisfaction. I would definitely recommend this to anyone not familiar with Xi'an.

We flew into Xi’an from Hong Kong and on arrival our driver was waiting with a sign and a smile. We thought, this is perfect and then our driver took our luggage, dialed a number on his phone then handed the phone to me. It was Sunday our guide on the line, welcoming us to Xi’an, having a quick chat and confirming our following morning itinerary. That’s outstanding service and Sunday is such a beautiful person.
Our day in Xi’an was more than we could have imagined. The Terracotta Warriors, the history behind their existence, seeing the elements that have been uncovered to date is fascinating. We had a full day with Sunday which was excellent. Had a delicious lunch and lots of personalised fun. My daughter and I had spent time in the Muslim Quarter the night before our tour with Sunday so together we worked out a change in our planned activities and went to this upmarket local food area which was Sundays suggestion. It was great. We even tasted the local wines.
If I ever return to Xi’an I’d only want Sunday was my tour guide. She’s just gorgeous. A beautiful lady and so much fun too.

Almost 14km long around the city wall. Cycling on the city wall is a nostalgic experience not to be missed. You have an option to choose a 20 minutes intro or a 4 hours ride.
Bell and Drum Tower used to be a time piece for the city but now its a monument and a perfect vantage point of the entire city.
Touristic atmosphere and a foodie trail of the Muslim culture. Bustling and vibrant. Although the once majestic Great Mosque with delicate motifs is looking tired and in great need of loving care to restore its former glory.
Our guide Ms Sunny synonymous to her name is certainly energetic and warm. Her knowledge of the Silk Road is impeccable. It’s an eye opener for us.
Thank you for a wonderful trip Sunny.
