Meet your guide in an easy-to-find location, then walk to one of the two most popular food districts of Xi’an. It is an ancient style building complex with a large collection of the most famous local snacks from all over the province! Here we will taste the savory Chinese hamburger - round pita bread stuffed with minced pork, and then visit the only food museum in the same area within the wall. After a short stroll through a park we will take a quick bus ride to the Muslim quarter, the other food marketplace in a community with a 1300 year history. It’s not only a place of historic interest but the most colorful and bustling area, a real kaleidoscope of local life! The rest of our tour will mainly take place in this humble but richly cultural district! These 5-6 eateries are scattered around the district, some on main streets and others tucked away in back streets, but they all cook for the locals.   While visiting these food stops, you will learn a lot about the local’s lives and the family restaurants that have been making their specialties for generations.   You’ll watch your food being made and learn about what makes it so special to Xi’an locals. Whether it’s sitting by an old man grilling meat over burning coals or watching dumplings being made right in front of you, whether you are shredding your own pita bread for “Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup”(Yangroupao) or listening to the sound of making fresh Biangbiang noodle, there are always something for you to try! The tour will be done mainly by walking and private tuk-tuk that can only be found in the area!

Wonderful experience, highly recommend a private tour
We had a fantastic private tour arranged by Lily. Michael took us on the foodie tuk tuk tour which was a wonderful way to start. Jackie showed us all the sights of Xi'an for 5 days and he was a fantastic guide who really made sure we enjoyed everything, especially our 3 year old son . Every day my son told us it was "the new best day ever". We had a day trip to the Shaolin Temple and Longmen Grotto and our guide Joe was also good. Everything went so smoothly and we appreciate the extra effort Jackie in particular made to ensure we had a wonderful trip. Would highly recommend booking a private tour with Lily as she had great suggestions for things to do with our son in Xi'an from visiting the panda sanctuary, to making DIY terracotta warriors and also climbing through the secret tunnels in the caved village near Yuanjia. Of course in addition to the normal attractions.

      See the best of Xi'an!
An excellent tour to pack in a bunch of must see sights in Xi'an! You can't not do the Terracotta Warriors, so why not throw in a couple of other interesting sights while you are at it. Michael our guide was highly knowledgable, flexible and well organised, making our tour both interesting and enjoyable at the same time. The lunch part way through the tour was delicious too! We would highly recommend this tour!

Perfect way to tackle Terracotta Warriors and Emperor Jingde’s tomb
What a spectacular day! The two main destinations are MUST see sights for any visit to Xi’an. We were blown away. Combining them into a one day tour worked fabulously and we did not feel rushed. Our guide Cathy Kong expertly navigated us through the attractions overcoming very long lines at the Terracotta Warriors museum. Her English was awesome - she majored in it at university. She was extremely helpful and had great energy. She helped us with our Chinese and recommended a show Legend of the Camel Bell and helped arrange tickets. Highly recommend her as a guide to ask for.

      Vegetarian food tour
I booked this tour through Viator and on that day I was the only person on the tour, so I had a delightful 3 odd hours with Michael. We walked around town and also caught a couple of tuktuks. Michael was a great host and attuned to my preferences. I also enjoyed his stories about his youth growing up in a rural area. We had many dishes, snacks and more substantial ones as well. The traditionally vegetarian dishes like the liang pi cold noodles and the traditional non-meat version of the Xian "hamburger"(rou jia mo) were a revelation. Michael shared the food with me and I found that a nice touch, more like eating with a friend. I've been on other food tours where the guide doesn't eat(for good reason, if they're running lots of food tours) and it always seems a bit awkward. We were very full by the end of the tour so come with an empty stomach. I would certainly recommend this tour for vegetarians and those like myself who prefer a plant rich diet.

A fantastic private and bespoke day tour of Xian
We had a fantastic private day tour with our family of 5 (3 teenagers) and Michael with the driver Mr Wong. The tour consisted of Xian City Wall, Muslim Quarter and the Terracota Warriors , with lunch at an authentic restaurant trying the famous Biang Biang noodles. Everything was bespoke to our needs as our son has severe autism, ADHD, and all 3 kids with nut allergy. Michael made sure all the scheduling was as perfect as we could imagine it . The tour was made as comfortable as it could in the heat of summer at 35 degrees ! We even cycled a.section of the Xian wall to the kids delight. We would highly recommend Lily's tour with Michael ! Thanks for a perfect day.

      Excellent guide and private tour
We had an excellent private tour to see the Terracotta warriors, arranged by Lily and led by guide Michael. Michael was very knowledgeable about historical topics and enthusiastically shared information with us. He and driver Mr. Wang both worked hard to optimize our time and were very flexible to our requests. Upon their suggestion, we added a stop at the Tomb of Emperor Jingdi, which was worthwhile and also interesting. We were so pleased that we added an extra day of private city tour with Michael, which was also wonderful. He again shared lots of insights and was flexible to our interests, and took us to spots and eateries we would not have found. Highly recommend Lily’s tours and guide Michael!

Memorable two days private Heritage Tour with Lily’s Private Tours!!
We book a two days Heritage Private Tour from 12-13 June 2024 with Lily’s Travel. Communications with Lily was pleasant via WeChat the moment we arrived at Xi’an the day before the tour. Our guide for the two days tour was Michael Chang. Michael is well-versed in the history of Xi’an and shared with us many interesting facts of the places we visited, as well as the history of the various dynasties that made Xi’an their capital. The temperature of our two days tour were at 40 over degrees but Michael was able to cover all the places of interests and plan the travel so that we were able to be well rested in between and not be affected too much due to the heat. Michael also went over and above by adding on the itinerary such as letting us experience the morning market of the local people along our way to view the City Walls…. and bringing us to the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City on the 2nd day of our tour. Overall, we are very delighted with Michael as our guide, as well as being thankful to the great driving skills of Mr. Ma, our driver for keeping us safe during the course of our two days tour. They made our trip to Xi’an a really memorable and happy travel. Highly recommend booking Lily’s Private Travel for their high level of service!

      Xi’an with Michael
I have never been so keen to write a review after my travels as I am today to say a little something about Michael, my tour guide in whom I have discovered a brother and a friend! Michael is exceptionally knowledgeable about Chinese history, and his impeccable narratives on the rich past of Xi’an will create a sense of awe and wonder in you as you navigate the ancient capital of China with him. Michael is kind, patient and sensitive to your needs and preferences as a tourist. He will bring you to the best places to eat, shop and walk around and soak into the vibrant cultural scene of the city! I highly recommend Lily Tours and Michael to you for an unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

      Great Experience in XiAn
We had Cathy as our tour guide for 2 days in Xi’An. She was really patient with telling us stories on ancient Chinese history and how Xi’an was an important capital city for many dynasties. She also recommended us some really good local cuisines over the 2 days. We had a really good time overall!

      Definitely best tour in town
Cathy did a spectacular job at showing us around the Terracotta army and Xi'An. Very knowledgeable, engaging and helpful - her style is excellent for getting a real understanding of the area, history, people and culture.

Too much too offer, too slow to absorb
Overall, China has too much too offer and we just can't absorb so much with such little time. Depends on individual, Lily Private Tours is slightly cheaper and worth every cent of the tour. A bit different from the other tours, the tour guide Jack (English speaking tour guide) guided us every second and explain every inch of the place we go (normally tour guide will introductory explain and you are ask to roam around). Apart from over-crowded and over-whelming knowledge input and the city jam, it was a good healthy tour, For the agency, believes the owners very attentive and ensure all your target are fulfils. We only miss our Panda tour (due to gov sudden closure) and the day tour was a bit abrupt, apart from that, the tour was great

      Day in Xi'an
I had an excellent day with Jackie on this amazing tour. He was very informative and able to speak to with ease as there was a driver. Jackie was very knowledgeable about the sites visited, and also about life in Xi'an . The Hangyaling museum was very interesting and very evocative and not at all busy. In contrast, the visit to the terracotta warriors was very crowded, but Jackie was extremely helpful in helping me negotiate the crowds and deal with tickets, gates etc. The lunch and cave house were also both enjoyable. Thank you Jackie for an excellent day!

Terracotta Army site & museum, Ancient City Walls, Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Muslim Quarter and shopping for a camera
Lily is an extraordinary guide, her deep knowledge of Xian and surroundings, their history and their landmarks, her excellent English and friendly personality made the tour very enjoyable ... in addition Lily went way beyond her duty to help me solve problems unrelated to her tour ... I had broken my main camera in Taipei and wanted find a possible replacement ... Lily found a well stocked photography store (not easy in a country where most people think cell phones are cameras) which carried the brand I wanted and also shipped a couple of museum guide books back to me in Canada (which involved packaging the books and handling the post office/customs forms) ... this was a BIG contribution to make my visit to Xian a very special trip that I will always remember ... Lily also has a very good driver with a clean and modern vehicle ... Josef Hochleitner, Toronto

      Excellent experience, highly recommend!
Michael is a walking encyclopaedia. Throughout the tour, he did not miss a beat to provide us with the most precious details behind every artefact, site or monument. The rich knowledge of history as well as the convenient transportation made this tour one that I can recommend to anyone visiting Xi’an.

I highly recommend the tour guide Michael and lilys tours. Michael took me to several places via tuk tuk and alleys and we ordered a lot of food. All the places were good and seemed popular with locals and covered a lot of variety. Michael is a great host offering beer when available and ordering from places along the way if I pointed to something and said it looked good. I think this is a really nice way to spend a night in xi’an. I also highly recommend lily’s tours. Communication of logistics could not have been better.

I recommend this food tour, and guide Michael, to anyone visiting Xi'an! The tour was customizable if there are specific places you want to go or things to eat. We started at the Hilton, visited a few areas and ended in the Muslim quarter at the bell tower. Michael helped us get a car back to our hotel AND he stayed in touch with us after the tour. He gave us recommendations on what to visit and where else to eat on the rest of our trip. Any tour you book with Michael will not disappoint!

Michael took us on a food tour and it was absolutely great. We tried lots of delicious food we'd never had before, and that we would have had trouble finding without Michael. We were completely stuffed after the tour and loved all the foods we tried. Michael was a great guide- super informative, fun to talk to. We wish we'd gone to the Terra Cotta warriors with him instead of the tour guide we booked through our hotel. Overall one of the highlights of our trip!

Lily arranged a fantastic food tour for us with Michael. He was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and great with our children. The food was outstanding and there was so much! I would do this tour every day if I could. Though I’d probably need a whole tuktuk to myself after a while!!

This is not my first time in Xi'an, but this food tour gave me a new world. All the food are tasty and special. The meeting point is very easy to find, and leader Michael is a great guide, very knowledgeable and welcomed everyone in the group well.
The tuk-tuk is great fun. Go through the small allies to try the local food, we are totally lost in the foodie paradise.
My personal favorite food is the Chinese Bread and The Soup Dumplings, SO SO SO good!
i will definitely do this again if i have a second chance.

We thoroughly enjoyed this food tour of Xi'An. We highly recommend this tour and our guide was Michael, and his warm personality and hospitality made us feel like visiting guests. The tuk tuk transport added excitement and enabled us to visit more areas without worrying about navigating crowds, or which places to pick. We visited multiple areas of Xi'An, culminating with the Moslem quarter. All of the food was interesting, delicious and plentiful. We loved seeing the colorful venues and Michael's commentary about the food and local life really helped us appreciate Xi'An and the local people even more. Michael speaks excellent English, and communicated in advance to verify our plans, but he was also flexible with timing and making sure our needs were met. Thanks again Michael for this fun and wonderful tour!

I don't remember the last time I wrote a review on here, but I just had to for this.

This was my first ever solo International trip. Couldn't think of a better way to learn about Xi'an than eating like the locals. So I did my research, read all the reviews and finally picked Lily's Private Tours.

Even before I left for China, Lily sent multiple confirmation emails. So I always knew who was picking me up from my hotel, what time and what to expect. That alone for a single traveler put me at such an ease.

On the day of the tour,Lily picked me up from my hotel as scheduled, even earlier than expected. Our tour wasnt strictly food based, we walked around and she told me all the history about the different sites and even took pictures for me. The best thing I enjoyed about this tour was that it didn't feel like one. It felt more like you were having dinner with one of your close friends. Lily's personality is really the selling point of the tour, she put me at ease. Oh and the food! There was so much food. I feel like I tried a little bit of everything and I must tell you come to this tour with an appetite. My favorite dish would be a toss up between the noodles and the dumplings with soup in them ( I can't seem to remember the name of the dishes now).

When Lily brought me back to my hotel, I felt like I just did a 2 day tour with all the information she gave me. I ended up staying 3 days in Xi'an. I did a tour on each day with different tour guides and let me tell you Lily was the best one! The only regret I have is not booking with Lily for all my tours. I won't make that same mistake again!

Even after I left Xi'an, Lily kept in contact with me to see if I was enjoying the rest of my stay.

Did this fantastic food tour with Michael on the night we arrived in Xian. He brought us to some many hidden gems, mostly away from the touristy Muslim Food Street. My son was allergy to nuts and could not take spicy food which was a big challenge for most food tour guide specially in Xian. But Michael did a great job. My son actually have a craving for Xian food so much that we booked a second food tour with Michael on the last day of our stay in Xian. Strongly recommend to do this food tour with Michael as he is a adventurous foodie like me.

Michael is an excellent guide. He is friendly, kind, and speaks fluent English. He went above and beyond to insure that our food tour in Xian was perfect. He is knowledgeable regarding the local cuisine and takes you to canteens and tiny out of the way restaurants that a traveler would never find on their own. We had so much fun while on our night food tour… from eating the local fare, zooming around in a Tuk Tuk and enjoying the company of Michael. We can’t thank Michael enough for taking us on a great food tour while we were in Xian.
