“Travel China Guide Tours” guide Carol spent the day with us as we experienced the Terra Cotta Warriors and the City Wall around old Xi’an.
The “Travel China Guide” company had been recommended to us by several staff members at the Shekou International School in Shenzhen.
We were very glad we took their advice! Our guide Carol, who is a lifelong resident of Xi’an presented us with endless information during the ride out of Xi’an to the UNESCO site. This made the trip to the site go quickly as we sat in rapt attention to Carol’s insights.
She afforded us an in-depth understanding of the history of Xi’an and the surrounding area. In all of our travels our guide in Peru and Carol on this trip are tied as #1 in our book. The reason is both are well-versed in their knowledge of and ability to relate that information to us in an interesting and clear manner.
Once we arrived at the Terra Cotta Warriors it was soon apparent that Carol knew how to move efficiently through the many groups of tourists. We slipped between buildings avoiding much of the ‘tourist trap’ shops, making a beeline to the important parts of the site. This allowed us to maximize the time we had to see the Warriors and educational displays and minimize the commercial distractions.
Carol took us to the preferred traditional noodle restaurant for lunch and even helped translate my special dietary needs.
If you are going to Xi’an you should definitely consider a tour with Travel China Guide Tours. And if you are lucky you can request Carol (WeChat: Carolchen08) as your guide!!!
AAA+ experience!!

This day tour was part of a private 15 day tour booked through Travel China Guide.
Our whole experience with this company was excellent, and our day with Tracy in Xi'an was no exception.
All aspects of the listed tour were enjoyable, the driver was great and the car very comfortable for our group of 4.
Tracy was a wonderful guide to spend the day with - she was very enthusiastic, spoke excellent English and was thoroughly organised at each location - we never felt rushed, and were able to spend as much time as we wanted exploring at our own pace.
The Terracotta Warriors exhibit was over the top crowded, but quite breathtaking and beautifully laid out. Tracy somehow negotiated quick entry and exit away from the crowds - another big positive for taking an experienced guide rather than going solo.
Our favourite part of the day was probably Muslim Street - I wasn't sure what to expect there, but Tracey gave us some bargaining tips and we thoroughly enjoyed pottering about the markets, and strolling along the streets experiencing the sights and smells of some rather unusual food vendors (and trying to pick exactly what some of those foods were !)
Had some great ice-cream there too (yum) and met a couple of young Chinese girls who wanted to practice their English - lots of giggles and photos were had on both sides.
Thanks Tracy for giving us a brilliant day in Xi'an xxx

We had a lot of domestic travel within China, so when we finally got to Xi'an we were beat. But Tracy was super UPbeat which was refreshing since we were kind of dragging from lack of sleep on an overnight train. She was easy to spot when we got to the exit, despite the crowds (Chinese holiday). We had about a 45 minute drive to our hotel and she engaged in conversation the whole way! She told us about different historical moments and facts in Xi'an, let us know what the agenda was for the next day, bought tickets for a live show for us, and gave us some information about the hot springs at our hotel. The next day, we saw the Terracotta Warriors and Tracy was great about going at our pace (which was a bit quicker than some of the other tourists). She ensured we got plenty of photos and checked in with us before we would move on to the next place or activity. She showed us the City Wall and the Wild Goose Pagoda and then took us shopping in the Muslim Quarter. She didn't go with us but told us a few basic rules of bargaining and then let us go do our own thing. We enjoyed her company but appreciated that she wanted us to have some time to ourselves. We only got that one day with her (plus the transport to and from the train station) but it was a great experience. Tracy was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with. And both the bullet train and overnight train were great! I've never taken a train before but I prefer it over flying :) It was a short yet memorable stop in Xi'an.

We arrived into Xi'an by train and our first challenge was in finding the tour guide and driver who were supposed to be there to meet us. Eventually we called them and, after carrying our luggage down 50 stairs or so were able to get into the car and underway.
It was a very wet day in Xi'an and we were quickly thoroughly soaked. We had not arrived expecting this weather and the tour guide offered no assistance in helping us find umbrellas or ponchos - apart from lending us an umbrella (one for 3 of us!).
The guide also gave us no advance warning of the amount of time we would spend outside in the rain. We ended up with waterlogged shoes and it was only the first day of our trip. Not a great start.
The tour lasted 4 hours only and we were not able to see much of Xi'an as the guide and driver both seemed keen to drop us off at our hotel as quickly as possible.
The car was poorly ventilated and either the driver didn't know how to work the A/C system or it wasn't working as the windows were all fogged up and it was impossible to see anything outside (the driver wiped the windscreen with a wet cloth to see).
If we were wet and had a great experience seeing the Terracotta Warriors that would have been fine - but they failed here too. The guide seemed to only offer up minimal amounts of information and we left not really understanding the story of what went on around the time these Warriors were crafted.
Given how wet it was and as we still had time in the afternoon, it would have been really helpful if we had been given some suggestions on indoor attractions such as the Big Wild Goose Pagoda or the Shaanxi History Museum.
Sadly, with all this said, this turned out to be the best of the three tours - it only got worse from here.

A colleague and I took a quick weekend away from work to visit Beijing and Xian. Both of our guides were super - Kitty and Celine. Every aspect of the trip was taken care of from picking us up and getting us to airport and all the train transfers. Every detail was like clockwork. Both ladies were so knowledgeable of the history of China and the attractions we saw - Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, Summer palace, Great Wall, Hutong tour , Chinese acrobats in Beijing and the Terrracottoa solider and Muslim section in Xian. We had plenty of time, never rushed through any of the things we saw. It was a trip of a life time and so appreciative of China Travel and how they planned the trip to our needs and how it was all executed. It could not have gone any better. Thanks Linda, Celine and Kitty!!

Terrific tour to the Terracota Warriors. Our guide Roger was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, excellent English speaking skills. He knew exactly where to go to get the best views, vantage points and for photographs (it’s very important) because it is VERY crowded. Amazing lunch recommendation as well! 💯

When we arrived at Xian Airport we met by our new guide Carol who took us to our new hotel; The Sheraton, Xian and that was an even better hotel than The Great Wall Hotel in Beijing.
On our first full day in Xian Carol took us to a pottery factory before visiting The Terracotta Warriors and Horse Museum where there were 3 pits to explore. It was very crowded because it was Chinese National Holidays; lots of families! Despite the crowds everything seemed to flow and we got some amazing photos.
After leaving the museum Carol took us to the apartment of a local family for lunch and it was mind boggling that 2 ladies cooked so many dishes for 18 of us. Our TravelChinaGuide consultant Emily arrived with a surprise for us; a framed group photo that our Beijing guide Candy had taken in Beijing.
After lunch we visited the Small Goose Pagoda and the Xian Museum; it wasn't too crowded here and the grounds were amazing with trees over 1,300 years old.
In the evening we were taken to The Shaanxi Grand Opera House where we watched a Tang Dynasty music and dance show. Before the show started we enjoyed a Dumpling Dinner and sampled 16 different types of dumplings and they were all yummy! I think we may have looked like dumplings by the time we left.
On our second full day in Xian we climbed the city wall and some of our group cycled around it. Looking over the western side of the wall we could see a beautiful canal with willow trees and Chinese people dancing to music.
After descending the city wall we visited the Provincial History Museum and that was very crowded. We also visited the Great Mosque and their beautiful gardens followed by a Muslim market.
During our 3 days in Xian Carol proved to be another amazing guide. Travel China Guide certainly go the extra mile with their tours and guides.

I had to extend my business trip to Beijing and had a spare day. Decided to go bit out of Beijing.
Thanks to TravelChinaGuide and especially Ms Phoebe, a daring adventure turned out to be a great tour.
Very friendly customer service, excellent tour guide (Phoebe), fluent english speaking, great knowledge of history, very accommodating, helpful and understanding (had to made last minute changes in schedule).
Although an overnight sleeper train from Beijing, an 11 hours ride and 1,100 km in a foreign country might sound bit daring, it was very smooth and easy, and definitely worth the effort. Can recommend to anybody.

From the moment we met our guide Tracy in Xian our minds were put at ease. Her friendly enthusiasm and excellent english told us we would have an enjoyable time in this ancient and important city. Our first day of two was truly action packed and the ease by which Tracy managed our day including squeezing-in an extra three activities was humbling. At the same time she made us feel like celebrities as we were efficiently whisked from place to place by our driver Mr Shi in our luxuriously spacious vehicle. All this was done whilst Tracy filled us in on the historical context of Xian as both the original capital and terminus for the silk road and introduced us to each location as we arrived, leaving us a good amount of time to explore the site. Tracy's descriptions were concise and astounding with the historical significance and she made good use of humour to awaken us from our stunned sense of awe of the places we visited.
In this day we were picked up from the Airport, walked on the City Walls, climbed the Small Wild Goose Pagoda (a great view of the city), had a home cooked lunch in a middle class apartment (this meal was arguably our best in China definitely cooked with love), met with a friendly Travel China Guide consultant, Visited the Shaanxi Ancient Civilisation History Museum, Received a foot massage and pedicure, checked into our spacious hotel room, dined on the special dumpling banquet before enjoying an evening’s entertainment at the Tang Palace Dance Show. It was an epic day’s touring, and Tracy was there after the show to guide us home, the extra effort we didn’t expect.
Our second day was more sedate but no less amazing, we visited a terracotta souvenir factory outlet and then the discoverer of the Terracotta Warriors before witnessing the marvel of the Pits themselves. This location is indeed a world treasure. Afterwards we had a quick lunch at a nearby noodle house recommended by Tracy that was great value and delicious. We then traveled to the Great Mosque for a more tranquil exploration past many diverse market stalls of souvenirs run by the local muslim minorities, the were very polite. We returned in early afternoon to our hotel to recover our energy and arrange our meeting time for the next day’s drop off at the train station. We explored the various street stalls in the area of our hotel but opted for the buffet service of the hotel for a reasonable rate and retired in time for some important HBO viewing.
A big thank you also goes to Selina for her dedication emailing me back and forth whenever I had a question. I thoroughly recommend Travel China Guide for anyone travelling to China for the first time or indeed returning for a further look. I know I’ll be using them again. Their website is a well useful source of important information and they as a travel group represent value for money in my opinion.
