About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Chantal B0 contributionsA great experience! This tour was fantastic! I learnt so much and really enjoyed the experience. Bruce gave us lots of interesting commentary on the way to the terracotta warriors and helped our trip go very smoothly. Just be prepared for the huge crowds all clamouring for the next photo spot in the main pit! Everywhere else is fine.Written August 20, 2023
- aanarebelo0 contributionsRecommendThe driver met us at the hotel on time. He was very nice and spoke english very well. He answered all our questions and when we got to the venue he went to collect our tickets. We didn't have to worry about anything. About the venue, there where a lot of people in pit 1, you have to fight your way through to see anything. I totally advice to book a driver or a guide. Is much easier, it can be a confusing place especially in the summer.Written July 25, 2023
- youngsoo940 contributionsMust see!! more than the tour to Terracotta warriors with Bruce! My family of 2 adults and 2 teens flew to Xi'An during the China Labor holiday weekend and had very exciting time during the most busiest season of the city thanks to excellent guide and recommendations by Bruce and Mary! Bruce speaks very good English and is also a good story teller. 1.5 hours' driving to Terracotta warriors museum would have been a boring time without his vast knowledge on China history, geography, culture and other things. Entry to the museum using passports was very straightforward thanks to Bruce’s guidance. In the Terracotta Museum, we could see actual terracotta warriors standing in the pits from a distance and could see some of terracotta warriors displayed in a glass cage. When my family were in the pit#1, we had to wait long time to get to the point where we could see the warriors from a distance because of too many people rushing into the pit area. We spent 3 hours in the museum. if you are planning to visit to see the warriors during a peak season, you need to get ready to wait long time. you may want to get some terracotta warrior ice cream from an ice-cream stand at the lobby in pit#1 or from convenient stores outside the pit. “The Legend of Camel Bells” Show was the most excellent choice that I made for my family during this trip to Xi’An. Mary, one of Bruce’s staff, strongly recommended me to watch the show and Bruce arranged VIP tickets at a way cheaper price. My family enjoyed the show so much that my teenagers wanted to come back to Xi’An to watch it again with their friends. I would say the show is a must-watch. Another tips for you. Ask Bruce for a good local restaurant and try a local food. He will introduce some good restaurants in Xi’An for you. he shared a location of a local restaurant for a mutton broth soup. When my family visited the restaurant next day, he’s kind enough to talk to owner of the restaurant over the phone so that my family could order a right food. Since we devoured the local mutton broth soup following Bruce’s recommendation, my family has become a big fan of the mutton broth soup and we miss the restaurant a lot.Written May 8, 2023
- jamlajatt0 contributionsImmerse yourself in 2000 year old historyAn amazing, mind blowing immersion into 2000 year old Chinese history. Never knew the Chinese used chrome plating for the weapons found with the terracotta army. Excellent tour guide by a lovely lady named Vivian who was very knowledgeable and with perfect English. Very charming. Highly recommended. Booked through hotel at very short notice and prompt pickup and return. You definitely should use them for peace of mind and an in depth experience.Written November 19, 2019

- billhR3817GQ0 contributionsFor an exceptional service in Xian, look no furtherWe had the pleasure of booking our private airport transfers and 2 days excursions to mount Hua Shan and the terracotta warriors with Bruce. The trip was effortlessly arranged for us by Bruce who was fantastic and very patient. On a personal level we really enjoyed Bruce's company as he is very friendly, easy to speak to and down to earth. He is simply a really nice guy and goes out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed the trip. If you are thinking of making a booking for a tour I would highly recommend Bruce.Written August 16, 2019

There was never an issue as we traversed across Xi’an to visit the main attractions. And Bruce’s local restaurant in the Muslim quarter, so glad we left in Bruce’s hands to order.Written July 9, 2019
- mandyvln0 contributionsTransport and tickets to HuashanUpon excellent recommendation from my hotel, I arranged a car transfer to and from Huashan with Bruce, who was very responsive and helpful. The arrangement included Bruce assisting with pre purchase of tickets which was a great convenience. He openly shares his knowledge of his hometown, his love for it and his enjoyment of sharing this love and connecting with people. Gave accurate tips on how to hike the mountain and information required. Thanks Bruce!Written May 15, 2019

- eyeessess0 contributionsOkWe reserved this 3 hour tour of the Terracotta Warriors with an English speaking driver. The positives: Bruce was great, before the tour. He contacted us several times by phone, email and text in advance to confirm tour details. Pick up and drop off was timely and went relatively smoothly. And, we did see the Terracotta Warriors. The negatives: Bruce did not show up for the tour. He did not contact us on the day of the tour at all (or anytime after). He sent a non-English speaking driver and a lovely "tour guide" who was not up to the task. She said Bruce didn't show because his daughter was sick and that although we paid for an English speaking driver and our driver spoke only Manadarin, she was coming along as our guide at no additional charge. Actually, she read that from a card as her English was not at a conversational level. Her knowledge (at least what she could communicate to us) about Xian and the Warriors was limited to translating what was on the display cases or info she took from her phone. We liked the guide and felt bad for her being in a situation that was beyond her current skill set. I was expecting more like what the other reviewers experienced -- info about the Warriors and the town included in the tour and someone knowledgable on the tour who spoke English. If you want transportation to and from the Warriors...this tour will work great. If you want info about Xian and the Terracotta Warriors, unless Bruce shows up as your driver, you might be better off looking elsewhere.Written April 16, 2019

- Gail J0 contributionsTerracotta warriors tourExcellent tour from the beginning to the end. We were picked up at the hotel right on time. Vivian, our tour guide, was friendly, polite, always caring about our safety, and very informative about the whole trip. Our driver was excellent too. Not normal crazy driving found in China. The car/van was very comfortable, clean (looked brand new) and silent. All in all, we had a very good and fun day!Written April 2, 2019

Bruce (the guide) was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the area and china generally and spoke very good English. Car was great, clean, and on time.
The reason for the 3 stars is due to the activity itself which I would not recommend in August, there are just way too many people given it is also the holiday period in china. Was 2h wait to take the cable car up (even though bruce correctly sent us to the cable car with less queue). When doing the hike we were in a constant ‘roadblock’ situation with people jammed all along the trail. Ultimately a scenic mountain but not an enjoyable experience this time of the year (we went on a weekday and not a weekend)

Getting to Hua Shan from Xi'an, not to mention purchasing tickets for its various features, would have been very confusing and difficult had it not been for this package! The deal includes transportation to and from the mountain, assistance in expedited ticket purchasing, and most importantly, Bruce, who is an excellent driver with extensive knowledge about modern Xi'an. He has a strong command of English if language is a concern.
Bruce picked me up early in the morning and on time and we drove to Huashan; in the hour and a half it took to get there, he was able to give me useful information about Xi'an's development and Huashan itself. When we arrived at the base of the mountain, he helped me purchase tickets for all of the attractions (there are many moving parts here, so I was glad he could help!), clearly explained the best routes to take, and personally sent me off on the shuttle buses that take you to the cable car at the base. When I returned about five hours later, he was waiting for me exactly where he said he would be and we drove back to the city, no hassle at all.
If you are going to Huashan and you don't want to take the train (which I don't recommend as you'll be thoroughly exhausted after you're done hiking and your tolerance for more crowds, tickets, and waiting may be stretched thin), there is no better way than to book Bruce! Note that the price of this package does not include tip, mountain tickets, and any snacks or water that you may want to take with you to Huashan (a must!). Still, I felt that it was well worth the money!
*Notes about the mountain itself unrelated to Bruce's excellent service*
Overall, the mountain was an enjoyable day trip and I'm glad that I went; the views at the top are absolutely stunning and well worth the 3 hours it takes to get to each of its four main summits (North, South, East, and West). However, it's not exactly "hiking" - the terrain is vast and the vistas are gorgeous, but it's effectively the equivalent of climbing an endless set of concrete stairs. Conditions are cramped, and there is no shortage of people traversing both upwards and downwards, and in some of the narrower passes, you are ground to a standstill as you wait for traffic to pass. Finally, the main reasons I went - to scale the Sparrow Cliff and walk the Plank Bridge on the East and Southern Peaks, which require harnesses to climb, and are thereby more "adventurous" - were closed due to high winds; this was disappointing, but the trip was still without having experienced them.
The map and the mountain's multiple peaks seem confusing but once you get on top, the sign posting is excellent, and you can hit all the highlights on a pretty linear path without doubling back too frequently. You take a shuttle bus from the visitor center to the base of the cable car (you need round-trip tickets for both), which takes you up to the North Peak. This a "base camp" to which the East, South, and West Peaks all connect, so it's pretty straightforward, and you can access them in any order you want. Hitting all five is about a 5 hour experience, including waiting time for the shuttle bus and cable car both ways.
Finally, be sure to bring your own food and water, and also hand sanitizer, soap, and tissue paper as the bathrooms have none! You will often be grabbing railings, chains, and other handholds that are pretty grimy after being touched by so many guests, so you'll really want to wash your hands.

Bruce is very nice and helpful guide. Proper instructions and details in advance were provided by him. Punctual on pick up time. He welcomed with such a friendly atmosphere, I had a fantastic start! The tour was extremely good, very flexible (appreciate this!) and for that, he deserves a special thanks. I had two great days there, which obviously also added up to the experience.
Bruce is such a warm personality and highly motivated guide (recommendable!). I truly enjoyed Mt. Huashan trip with him. He provided all the information with the day trip. He also has great patience. The car was very comfortable and clean. He arranged good quality water in advance. Also helped with all the tickets and other stuff required for the hike. He is a very good driver with knowledge of all local spots. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relief to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The plank road on the end was a great way to end the tour.
The atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for Bruce who does a great job there; a true sample of an excellent tour guide!
Many thanks again and I recommend Xian Tour Expert - Day Tour to everyone!

We decided to go to climb Hua Shan Mountain for 1 day trip from Xi’an and in order to save the transportation time, we booked Bruce, English Driver Guide for the transportation between our Xi’an hotel and Hua Shan. Bruce picked us from the hotel at 8:00am and arrived at the car park of Hua Shan at 9:30am. It was a smooth ride and he purchased the shuttle bus, cable cars and mountain entrance tickets for us and made our trip to the mountain easy. He advised which way would be the best for us. We went North Peak by the shuttle bus & cable car and then climbed up to West Peak for 2 & half hours. It was a sunny day and not too cold and we enjoyed the view! On the way back, we took the cable car from West Peak to the shuttle bus parking area and then took a shuttle bus back to the car park. We met Bruce at the same place he parked the car at 4:00pm. We came back to Xi’an hotel at 5:30pm. He is very professional and knowledgeable about Xi’an and China and we recommend him to all of you if you would like to visit Hua Shan! We had an amazing experience!

I will look back on Hua Shan as one of the highlights of my trip to China(I am a mountain lover) and the service provided by Xian Tour Expert was excellent. I was picked up promptly from hotel and my guide Mary talked through the various options of getting around the mountain during the drive to Hua Shan. There are various options depending on how active you want to be - if not keen on walking cable cars are available to take you to the north or west peaks of the mountain ( Hua Shan has five peaks) ; if you have the time and feeling very active you can walk from the base and traverse all five peaks; or take the cable car to North Peak and then walk to each of the remaining four peaks and return to base through either the north or west cable car. I took the latter option as not really time to walk up from the base and there would be enough walking once you get uptonthe North Peak. The mountain was beautiful - the walk from the north Peak to the remaining peaks involves some steep sections but is all stepped so safe to complete. Very adventurous can take the plank walk in the sky (google it) but not necessary to get to the peaks. Similarly there are some fun vertical ladder sections if you’re feeling up to it but alternative easier stepped options are available so really it is a mountain for all tastes.
Having the private car to take you home at the end of day was great ( alternative involves taxis trains etc not what you need after a long day hiking) and having a guide to buy all the tickets was also a great help as the trip involved five separate tickets for shuttle buses, cable cars and the mountain itself.
In summary a trip to Hua Shan is a must in my opinion if you have any love of the outdoors and I’d strongly recommend the private car and guide option - many thanks to Mary who set up a fabulous day

To be clear this isn’t a “guided tour”, but transportation and excellent guidance and conversation by Bruce. Bruce picked me up in a timely manner from my
hotel in the morning with a smile on his face. We had a lovely chat about China, it’s people, customs, history and philosophy. He was very funny and his English was spot on. One of the best English speakers I’ve run into in China! We discussed what I wanted to see and do on the Mt. and when we arrived he bought the tickets for the cable cars and busses that I needed. I decided to go to the plank wall and was grateful it was open. All map signs on the wall have Chinese and English, however when you get to the plank wall “check in” desk there is no written English and the 2 guys checking passports do not speak any English. First I was told I couldn’t do the was because I was over 50. I argued I wasn’t OVER 50, but that I WAS 50....so they allowed me on. Then, I discovered that you can only go in pairs..meaning no solo climbers. Disappointed, I started to walk away but a very lively Chinese girl in line who spoke a little English helped me out and paired me with a solo guy in her group. In reality it seems they want groups of 4...not sure why, as you climb as like a group of 12!? Anyway, the wait ended up being about 2 hours and the climb took about 45 to 1 hour (from suit up to finish). It this point it was 4pm and due to the cable car closing I didn’t have time to finish the rest of the hike (but was successful in what I came to do). I went down the mountain the same way I came up (West Peak). When I got off the bus there was Bruce waiting for me at the bottom. He went out of his way to make sure I had a great trip by helping out some friends. By this action alone, I can tell that he is a compassionate, honest man with a good soul. He deserves abundant success. On the way back to Xi’an we had a wonderful conversation and shared favorite music. By far the best tour I’ve taken in China by the most compassionate man with stellar taste in music! Thank you Bruce!

Bruce was 👍! A knowledgeable guy who made the trip down to Mt Huashan a memorable one. Suggested routes which were appropriate for us with kids aged 5 and 7. Recommended, don't leave Xi'an without seeing and enjoying this scenic attraction.

Hi I'm going to Xi'an by 11th Feb next year (after CNY)..I'm wondering whether the plank walk is available during that time?

Is it possible to get picked up at our hotel in the morning and dropped off at the airport at 1700 on the same day?
Written October 11, 2019
It’s possible but would leave you with a short time at Mount Hua, it is about two hours drive from central Xian.
If you have a short day it is better to see the Terracotta Army in the morning, where you need about two and a half hours to see all the exhibits.

Hey!
I'm really keen to go climb Mount Huashan and use your services to assist in rebooking the tickets. However, I would only wish to go if I knew I could do the plank walk. Are you able to let me know when it is forecast to be back accessible to tourists. Thanks

Hi, I have been two years in a row in June and both days we went were clear and beautiful. You need to get to the plank walk by 12pm as it took 4 hours for the waiting time and to do the walk. Depending on how long you want to spend on the mountain but you can get the bus up the north side and walk to all peaks. Or you can shorten the walk and go up the west side and go to the south peak where the plank walk is & back down the west side again. Hope this helps 😊

Hi,
We are planning to visit mt Hua. But cannot hike , though would love the cable car ride because we have two small kids (7 yr and 2 yr old )
Please let us know if I e can book this tour for only the cable car and no the hike part
Also since we are not opting for the hike, is there anything that you recommend that can be added to this tour
Thanks and Regards
Suchitra

Hello,
Yes, when you purchase the ticket it gets you a ride to the mountain from your hotel, an English speaking driver, the entrance fee to the park and a "one way" bus ticket to the bottom of the cable car. You will need to purchase the cable ticket and return bus ticket to the park entrance.
So yes, you can go to the top of the cable car and simply walk around there.

Hi, i am planning to visit huasan next year July, 3 adult, 2 child (5 and 7 y old) and 1 infant.
If we take this trip, we will pay for the entrance and cable car ticket us ur mention. But I wan to know ur buy the tickets in advance for us or we need to queue for buying the tickets.

Hi, you pay extra for the tickets but our guide had a local contact purchase them on our behalf before we arrived, so no queuing for tickets.
There is still lots of queuing to be had though, security, cable cars etc, but all moved quickly.
Be aware this is a seriously steep mountain so your young children will need a lot of supervision.
Well worth the effort, hope you enjoy the adventure.
