About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- LawrenceL6440 contributionsVegetarian food tourI booked this tour through Viator and on that day I was the only person on the tour, so I had a delightful 3 odd hours with Michael. We walked around town and also caught a couple of tuktuks. Michael was a great host and attuned to my preferences. I also enjoyed his stories about his youth growing up in a rural area. We had many dishes, snacks and more substantial ones as well. The traditionally vegetarian dishes like the liang pi cold noodles and the traditional non-meat version of the Xian "hamburger"(rou jia mo) were a revelation. Michael shared the food with me and I found that a nice touch, more like eating with a friend. I've been on other food tours where the guide doesn't eat(for good reason, if they're running lots of food tours) and it always seems a bit awkward. We were very full by the end of the tour so come with an empty stomach. I would certainly recommend this tour for vegetarians and those like myself who prefer a plant rich diet.Written August 26, 2024
- MN88880 contributionsA fantastic private and bespoke day tour of XianWe had a fantastic private day tour with our family of 5 (3 teenagers) and Michael with the driver Mr Wong. The tour consisted of Xian City Wall, Muslim Quarter and the Terracota Warriors , with lunch at an authentic restaurant trying the famous Biang Biang noodles. Everything was bespoke to our needs as our son has severe autism, ADHD, and all 3 kids with nut allergy. Michael made sure all the scheduling was as perfect as we could imagine it . The tour was made as comfortable as it could in the heat of summer at 35 degrees ! We even cycled a.section of the Xian wall to the kids delight. We would highly recommend Lily's tour with Michael ! Thanks for a perfect day.Written August 24, 2024
- strawberry050 contributionsExcellent guide and private tourWe had an excellent private tour to see the Terracotta warriors, arranged by Lily and led by guide Michael. Michael was very knowledgeable about historical topics and enthusiastically shared information with us. He and driver Mr. Wang both worked hard to optimize our time and were very flexible to our requests. Upon their suggestion, we added a stop at the Tomb of Emperor Jingdi, which was worthwhile and also interesting. We were so pleased that we added an extra day of private city tour with Michael, which was also wonderful. He again shared lots of insights and was flexible to our interests, and took us to spots and eateries we would not have found. Highly recommend Lily’s tours and guide Michael!Written July 16, 2024
- Tan P0 contributionsMemorable two days private Heritage Tour with Lily’s Private Tours!!We book a two days Heritage Private Tour from 12-13 June 2024 with Lily’s Travel. Communications with Lily was pleasant via WeChat the moment we arrived at Xi’an the day before the tour. Our guide for the two days tour was Michael Chang. Michael is well-versed in the history of Xi’an and shared with us many interesting facts of the places we visited, as well as the history of the various dynasties that made Xi’an their capital. The temperature of our two days tour were at 40 over degrees but Michael was able to cover all the places of interests and plan the travel so that we were able to be well rested in between and not be affected too much due to the heat. Michael also went over and above by adding on the itinerary such as letting us experience the morning market of the local people along our way to view the City Walls…. and bringing us to the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City on the 2nd day of our tour. Overall, we are very delighted with Michael as our guide, as well as being thankful to the great driving skills of Mr. Ma, our driver for keeping us safe during the course of our two days tour. They made our trip to Xi’an a really memorable and happy travel. Highly recommend booking Lily’s Private Travel for their high level of service!Written June 25, 2024
- 977justinc0 contributionsOutstanding food tour experienceLily arranged a fantastic food tour for us with Michael. He was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and great with our children. The food was outstanding and there was so much! I would do this tour every day if I could. Though I’d probably need a whole tuktuk to myself after a while!!Written May 8, 2024
- Wanderer405873863280 contributionsGreat Experience in XiAnWe had Cathy as our tour guide for 2 days in Xi’An. She was really patient with telling us stories on ancient Chinese history and how Xi’an was an important capital city for many dynasties. She also recommended us some really good local cuisines over the 2 days. We had a really good time overall!Written April 11, 2024
- ArnoldV_110 contributionsDefinitely best tour in townCathy did a spectacular job at showing us around the Terracotta army and Xi'An. Very knowledgeable, engaging and helpful - her style is excellent for getting a real understanding of the area, history, people and culture.Written April 11, 2024
- gohkengee0 contributionsToo much too offer, too slow to absorbOverall, China has too much too offer and we just can't absorb so much with such little time. Depends on individual, Lily Private Tours is slightly cheaper and worth every cent of the tour. A bit different from the other tours, the tour guide Jack (English speaking tour guide) guided us every second and explain every inch of the place we go (normally tour guide will introductory explain and you are ask to roam around). Apart from over-crowded and over-whelming knowledge input and the city jam, it was a good healthy tour, For the agency, believes the owners very attentive and ensure all your target are fulfils. We only miss our Panda tour (due to gov sudden closure) and the day tour was a bit abrupt, apart from that, the tour was greatWritten April 10, 2024
- Theoweo0 contributionsDay in Xi'anI had an excellent day with Jackie on this amazing tour. He was very informative and able to speak to with ease as there was a driver. Jackie was very knowledgeable about the sites visited, and also about life in Xi'an . The Hangyaling museum was very interesting and very evocative and not at all busy. In contrast, the visit to the terracotta warriors was very crowded, but Jackie was extremely helpful in helping me negotiate the crowds and deal with tickets, gates etc. The lunch and cave house were also both enjoyable. Thank you Jackie for an excellent day!Written February 21, 2024
- josefhT935TR0 contributionsTerracotta Army site & museum, Ancient City Walls, Great Wild Goose Pagoda, Muslim Quarter and shopping for a cameraLily is an extraordinary guide, her deep knowledge of Xian and surroundings, their history and their landmarks, her excellent English and friendly personality made the tour very enjoyable ... in addition Lily went way beyond her duty to help me solve problems unrelated to her tour ... I had broken my main camera in Taipei and wanted find a possible replacement ... Lily found a well stocked photography store (not easy in a country where most people think cell phones are cameras) which carried the brand I wanted and also shipped a couple of museum guide books back to me in Canada (which involved packaging the books and handling the post office/customs forms) ... this was a BIG contribution to make my visit to Xian a very special trip that I will always remember ... Lily also has a very good driver with a clean and modern vehicle ... Josef Hochleitner, TorontoWritten November 29, 2023
- PimC500 contributionsRide the Tuktuk and taste Xi’an foodThis is my second food tour in Xi’an and Buren, our tour guide took me to many places and tasted many dishes. All is good. It’s one of the best way to try the Xi’n tastes on Tuktuk.Written November 18, 2023
- E5766LXmarcd0 contributionsHistorical trip and great experienceXi'an Tour with Michael was a great moment and educative time. Michael was very friendly and elaborated and clearly explain the History regarding the city of Xi'an. He gave us detailled information and interresting background stories. He was comfortably able to answer all our questions regarding the rich History of China. I would recommend this tour in order to have the background History behind the city of Xi'an !Written November 10, 2023
- 84elied0 contributionsExcellent experience, highly recommend!Michael is a walking encyclopaedia. Throughout the tour, he did not miss a beat to provide us with the most precious details behind every artefact, site or monument. The rich knowledge of history as well as the convenient transportation made this tour one that I can recommend to anyone visiting Xi’an.Written November 9, 2023
- Silvia0120 contributionsExtremely fascinating tourExtremely fascinating and well organized tour. The explanations of our guide Michael were very interesting, he speaks very good English and is familiar with thousends of years of Chinese history. He's also a very nice person. The Terracotta Army is one of the most impressive things you can ever see and experience, but without Michael's explanations the experience would not have been half as deep. The museum is also worth seeing (and one of the few sightseeing spots in China where you don't have to fight your way through crowds). And the lunch with the freshly prepared noodles tasted good, too. We can only recommend this tour.Written November 1, 2023
- Nolajuli0 contributionsExcellent, fun, efficient, food tour. Would definitely do it again.I did a wonderful evening food tour with Michel Chang. I highly recommend doing this and I would definitely do it again. We tried so many delicious dishes and Michael did an excellent job of explaining the food and the history and answered lots of questions I had about everything!! We went to places that I would not have known to go, or been able to efficiently go all around town, and had dishes I would not have known to try!!! Thank you Michael and thank you Lilys toursWritten November 1, 2023

I have never been so keen to write a review after my travels as I am today to say a little something about Michael, my tour guide in whom I have discovered a brother and a friend! Michael is exceptionally knowledgeable about Chinese history, and his impeccable narratives on the rich past of Xi’an will create a sense of awe and wonder in you as you navigate the ancient capital of China with him. Michael is kind, patient and sensitive to your needs and preferences as a tourist. He will bring you to the best places to eat, shop and walk around and soak into the vibrant cultural scene of the city! I highly recommend Lily Tours and Michael to you for an unforgettable experience in Xi’an!

My husband & I booked LilySun's Tours for our 4 days in Xian. Our guide, Jackie, was excellent. He spoke very good English, kind, punctual and took us to try the local cuisine, which we thoroughly enjoyed. He ensures that our tour runs very smoothly. He looked after us well on our day trip to Huashan. The driver of the tour is also very good and careful. Our tour also include a day in Louyang which was well planned with a guide, Frank. We highly recommend Lily Sun's Xian Tours and specially, Jackie as a guide. We had a very enjoyable & memorable trip in Xian.

My husband and I booked Lily's Tours for our stay in Xi'an. Our guide, Cathy was very kind and accommodating. She was more than willing to help us in any way possible, even after the tour was over. For example, she went to a market with us to help us with finding a place to eat. We spent three days seeing the city and climbing Mt. Huashan.
We also booked a tour to Luogang with Lily's Tour. Our guide Cecelia was absolutely amazing. My husband forgot his phone on a bench and when we returned it was gone. Cecelia knew many people in the area and her quick action made it possible to recover the phone. She told us many wonderful stories about her childhood and how things have changed in China throughout her life. She also was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and spoke English very well. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with her and would highly recommend going to Longmen Grottoes, which was the highlight of our trip.
Lily also took time to meet us at our hotel to make sure things were going well. She was helpful from the booking process and throughout the trip. I even paid the entire booking fee online before the trip so we would not have to worry about payment when we arrived. Lily arranged car transfers to and from the airport and we had the same driver for the whole week.

Planning a holiday with parents from both sides are always a challenge. However, engaging Lily's Private Tours was the best decision. It freed up so much of my time just to plan for activities. Lily did all the custom itinerary planning for us and we managed to book a private mini bus to ferry 6 people around. Michael was our guide in Xi'An and he was amazing! Very personable, friendly and most importantly knowledgeable. Went out of his way to organise for meeting points when one side of the party wanted to rest while the other wanted to explore. Running up and down to ensure both sides are well taken care of. Brought us around places of interest and even bought us snacks! We greatly enjoyed our trip in Xi'an all thanks to Lily and Michael. *Ps: Michael takes good photographs as well. He pretty much took all our group photos for us.

Having read reviews of other customers, then finally experienced it, I agree that Lily’s tour is the ONE YOU MUST GO With; with Cathy (Xian-Terracota warrior) and Frank (LuoYang - Shao Lin temple) as the guides.
Schedules were finely planned, revealing how experienced they have been.
As per priorities, The terracota is the money shot, the world’s eighth wonder. Rest assured that Cathy will explain to you every single detail of the treasure. On top, She knows in details of history of China: the dinasties, emperors and empresses, even dramas behind love stories with emperors’ concubines. Such a lovely storyteller she is.
Foods! Ask Cathy to guide you to find local foods. Better taste and less expensive! Amazing! I and my friend were satisfied with the savory local delish.
And Frak gave a 5 star recommendation to eat at the Shao Lin temple “restaurant.” Wonderful to eat foods that the monks similarly eat. Being Vegatarian for one time in the mids of oily Chinese foods.
Cathy and Frank, the guides, are exceptionally good English speakers. They are provenly fluent, making our journey even more smooth as none of our group members speak Mandarin.
I have no doubt to recommend highly this 3-day tour (teracota - shao lin temple - Xi’an city historical exploration and foods) to anyone planning to visit Xian.

My friend and I opted for the 3 Days Xian plus Shaolin temple tour. On the first day
the highlight was Terracota Warriors, our guide Cathy was very knowledgeable and ran us through the historical stories on the Qin dynasty, including the details such as palace conspiracy & politics on that time. Don’t forget to buy terracota models with certificate at the museum. For lunch we had the longest noodle (“belt noodle”) in our lives at a nice local restaurant she recommended, very memorable. In the evening we got a special price from Lily for the Tang Dynasty Dinner for 16 dumplings banquet plus an exquisite dance and musical show (must-see). Next day Shaolin temple’s kungfu show blew our minds! Martial artists use their qi gong to strengthen their body parts and gracefully wield their weapons. Frank, our guide in Luoyang, showed us to the temple’s vegetarian restaurant, and we ordered a 2 person package for a reasonable price. The soup especially, was marvelous. Last day we did the city tour to Muslim Street where the Huy tribe flurorished and Wild Goose Pagoda that was the inspiration for the tale “Journey to The West”. Worth every time and every penny. Highly recommended👍🏻

Michael was a wonderful guide, and he really helped us to get to know the culture, history and food of Xian.
My wife and 21 year old son really enjoyed our time here. From the Terra Cotta Warriors to Mount Huashan, it was an incredible experience.
