Kaiping and Taishan are well known as the hometown of overseas Chinese in Southern China. Diaolou structures were built from the time of the Ming Dynasty to the early 20th century, reaching a peak in the 1920s and 1930s, with the financial aid of overseas Cantonese, when there were more than three thousand of these structures. Today, approximately 1800 Diaolous remain standing in Kaiping, and approximately 500 in Taishan. Today few of these villages and Diaolous have been recently restored, and some of them became quite a famous tourist destination as Li Yuan garden, Zilicun, Majanlong in Kaiping. But we will take you to the unexplored village and visit their original diaolous.

A great Tour of Sai Kwan
This tour was amazing there is so much history in Guangzhou, a place that is changing rapidly, yet still, in the "Old Town" retains its culture & reminds you of the China that was read about in history books. The Guide was both informative, friendly & you could tell he holds a special place for his work to show the rest of the world the wonders of China. Take the Metro, it is clean, efficient & mingle with the local culture from the beautiful parks to the Toaist temple to the street filled with Herbs & Herbalists ready to make you a remedy for anything that ails you, it is to be found on this tour. Ask your guide about Yum Cha as well as a fitting end to a wonderful tour: I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is going to Guangzhou.

Best walking tour in Guangzhou! Go with Janvi
I had a 10hr layover in Guangzhou and so I looked into walking tours. I stumbled upon Janvi's tour and I am so glad I did. Janvi is happy to customize the tour to exactly what interests you. I opted to have Janvi arrange a driver to drive us around as I didn't have a lot of time. You can really tell that Janvi is proud of his town, he has a great knowledge of history and will take the time to explain the story behind each spot. Try all the food he recommends! This was a very memorable trip. Thank you!

Amazing tour with Janvi. Very customizable, private and fulfilling our needs. He realized that we loved to eat, and made everything possible for us to experience new things.

          Excellent tour
We decided to book a day tour of old and new Guangzhou with Janvi and didn’t regret a single moment Janvi was very easy to deal with - the booking process was really easy. We were met right on time by Janvi. He clearly loves his city and presents an extremely informative and personal experience. We loved everything about the tour. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Guangzhou

Superb tour of the real Guangzhou!
Janvi was a knowledgeable guide that has designed a tour that really gets you to understand Guangzhou - my day with Janvi was a very special experience. He loves and understands his city - his passion is reflected in the effort he has undertaken to produce such a superb tour, but he combines this with sound research and compelling historical information and images. His book is a great introduction to Guangzhou but you can't beat actually the experiences that Janvi took me through on this tour - awesome Janvi!!!!

          Excellent Guide
This was a great tour - informative, interesting, personal, and Janvi took care of me - delivered me safely to the airport. Plus, if you are going to go half-way around the world, why not spend some significant time with a native of the land you are visiting? Otherwise you’re just eating and looking at stuff. A conversation is priceless. I was on business to Sydney, and took advantage of China Southern Airline’s long-lay-over, free-hotel with temporary visa system. So, I had 48 hours in GuangZhou - and no experience in China. For my second day I booked an all day tour, with car, guided tour with Janvi. I strongly recommend this. First, the guide was very well prepared. By email exchanges month prior I was able to communicate precisely what I was interested in learning more about.

Best tour to learn the real life in Guangzhou
This tour was great! Janvi speaks good English, we discovered the authentic Guangzhou. Walking through local, hidden streets to see local markets and the everyday life of people. Walking into The traditional Chinese medicine market, Janvi taught us what you can find, how to prevent illness. The Memorial hall of Chinese Railway engineer, Liwan lake park, Renwei Taoist Temple to learn more about the culture and history. And Janvi takes you to the best adresses to taste the best dim sum, palm noodles, Cantonese specialties, crisps, desserts in town! If you have just arrived, take a tour with Janvi to get the real taste of Guangzhou. He can also help you find whatever you are looking for! Just ask   and follow Janvi.

          Great city tour
We did the tour with a private driver during a layover & it was a fantastic way to see Guangzhou. We covered a lot of ground & managed to see so much in one day. Markets were a highlight. Very knowledgeable guide. Thank you!

Janvi the Cantonese guide! and I love the book. Relaxed adventure.
Janvi is an unassuming fellow who knows his city very well. He is a guide in the old sense of the word. In the days when you pick up a guide at the Victoria Hotel, the most comfortable hotel in the East. I would have liked more time as Janvi wets your appetite for adventuring around old Canton. Well Janvi I will leave it for next time. But I figure I will spend a day. I have read Janvi's book Discover GUANGZHOU. Maybe a bike next time? Have a great year Janvi, see you next year 2019.

a great day with a great host
Janvi was a great host and very helpful , he explained detailed everything what to do when you arrive with China Southern and have a layover of more than 8 hours, without his help we wouldn't be able to know about the free hotel, etc... his tour and knowledge of the city was fabulous, he shows you the real and true soul of the city, not only the commercial side of Guangzhou, I would definitely recommend his tour and his company , very reliable, specially if you go to a city and a country where you have never been before.

          Fabulous Local Experience!!
Excellent Authentic Tour! Janvi was exactly the guide we were looking for: a local showing us the real Guangzhou. The choice of eateries where we could try the local cuisine was fantastic. During the whole tour he explained many aspects of Guangzhou’s history, culture and food. A very genuine person, Janvi shared his knowledge with passion. We highly recommend this “Off the Beaten Path” experience! Just check out his website and you’ll understand why his tours are so unique.

If you want to get a great peek into the city, both contemporary life and the history of the area, Janvi delivers. I’m really pleased that I decided to take a punt with my one day off in a week of visiting Guangzhou for work.

          BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!
I brought my elderly parents for an off-the-beaten-path experience with Janvi. Our first day had us started the day at noon. We went on the Sai Kwan district tour. It was extremely eye opening to see parts of the town less known for tourists. We get to see the authentic local living as we go back in time to learn about Guanzhou's development. Indeed a trip that brings back old memories for my parents. We get to try local snacks too, which are all amazing! Would never found or try these without Janvi. After a great 9 hours walking trail, we call it a day and continued on Whampoa Anchorage Tour the next day. This is amazing because Hoo Ah Kee was a famous person in Singapore where we are from, and a visit to his hometown is so iconic and mandatory to complete the impression. We then hop on Janvi's car to a rural Hakka village. We were Hakka descendants but knew so little of our own culture. Its a pity that this last Canton-Hakka styled Rounded Dragon Architect may not stand against the test of time in the near future. We had great local home cooked light meal and eating Litchi because of the prime season. An amazing experience thats very much unexpected! Janvi is full of knowledge and very patient with my parents. Highly recommended to go for a 2 days tour with Janvi after the usual Tourist Attractions. Janvi tours will supplement whatever you have seen at the Tourist Attractions and amaze you with more "wow factor" Thanks!

Sai Kwang Food tasting and Hakka Village Tour
We combined 2 tours into one and spent the whole day with Janvri. He met us 2 days before the tour. He understood the Guangzhou old city well and directed us to try out the local delicacies instead of the posh Chinese restaurants. He was also very knowledgeable regarding the past history of Guangzhou and even shown us some historical document to support his explanation. He was patient and attentive to our needs. During the visit to the Hakka Village, we were brought to the lychee Farm and picked fresh lychee. We ate them on the spot! It was sweet and juicy! We will sure be back to him if we need his service in the future.

          What a great experience!!!!
We can't thank Janvi enough for his excellent walking tour of Guangzhou! We communicated a lot via email prior to the tour and he was very patient and professional in explaining various options based on the timing of our layover. Janvi was even willing to personalize our tour to include a stop in a local shop to purchase a tea set for a wonderful price! We loved seeing historic Guangzhou and were so impressed with Janvi's knowledge of the history there. We also LOVED seeing the tucked away markets in the back streets and alleys. We really did feel we were seeing the city like a local resident! What a treat!!! We never could've felt so comfortable seeing all of this without a local guide and Janvi made the tour worth every penny! We can't recommend this tour highly enough. It made our long layover suddenly become a highlight of our whole trip!
