Stop At: St. George Monastery, Yuryevskoye Hwy., 10, Veliky Novgorod 173007 Russia

The active monastery of the XII century at the origins of the Volkhov near Lake Ilmen - the southern outpost of Veliky Novgorod, founded by the great Kiev Prince Yaroslav. St. George Monastery is considered the first Orthodox monastery of the Novgorod land. The complex of buildings of the Yuriev Monastery still seems grandiose, although it has not yet been completely renovated. It includes a 52-meter bell tower and five buildings: East, with a gloomy prison cell; Southern - with the Church of the Burning Bush; The Archimandrite - with the Savior Cathedral, under the burial of which Vladyka Photius and AA Orlov-Chesmenskaya were buried; over the North rises the bell tower, and from the east it is adjacent to the church and Holy Cross Cathedral (1823). His blue five-headed with bright golden stars attracts attention from afar.

Stop At: Vitoslavitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture, Yurevskoe shosse, Veliky Novgorod 173007 Russia

The Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture "Vitoslavlitsy" is located on the site of the village of the same name, on the territory of the former noble estate of Semevsky - A. A. Orlova-Chesmenskaya. There is still a two-story house of a former manor and a one-story outbuilding, as well as some fragments of the manor park. The museum was founded in 1964, when the first exhibit was transported here - the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in 1595 from the village of Kuritsko. Now in "Vitoslavlitsy" there are collected the best examples of folk wooden architecture that have survived to the present, only 34 buildings. The area of the museum is 33.4 hectares. Huts, rural chapels, churches became exhibits by themselves, but inside they are peculiar museums - for example, in a double house, the Dobrovolsky house, there are expositions “The arrival of a trader-peddler” and “Sherstoshbit-felting”. Every year in “Vitoslavlitsy” they hold holidays of folklore and crafts, ethnographic programs, Christmas festivities, and the international festival of bell bells.
