My family scheduled three full day tours in Bucharest and Transylvania through Nicolas on our way to a river cruise. We also included pickup at the airport and drop-off at our cruise ship. The tours themselves were amazing, and highly recommended. Nicolas speaks great English, and has a great sense of humor to go with his immense knowledge. However, what really set Nicolas apart was the clear demonstration of how much he cared about us, and the experience we were having. It started right at the airport. The airline failed to get one of our bags on our plane, and the bag was not likely to arrive until after midnight. Nicolas insisted that, rather than have us use Bolt, Uber or a taxi to get the bag late that night, he would take us to retrieve the bag at no extra charge. He was concerned that our vacation was not ideal at its start, and he wanted to do everything he could to raise the quality of the experience. He had no part in causing our tough situation, but he was determined to do what he could to make it less painful. Who does that for people you have just met?? Nicolas is an excellent guide, but he is also just a really great guy that cares about other people and making their stay in his fine country as enjoyable as possible. That care was evident in all that we did together, which inevitably made him feel, after a short time, more like a friend than a mere service provider. I give him my strongest recommendation.

I had a phenomenal trip with Nicholas. My goal with my trip was to feel like I hadn’t missed anything of note in Moldova and Romania and he was great at being flexible and creating a custom itinerary that worked with exactly what I wanted so that I left satisfied I’d done everything I wanted. From the time I was picked up at the airport to the time I was dropped off, everything was planned, well-timed and interesting. He put together an excellent itinerary, was very friendly, and very knowledgeable about history, customs and was always checking that the daily plan worked, with a flexible approach that ensured we could make the most of each day. I have travelled with many private guides in many countries and this trip was a great one. Highlights included the family beekeeping operation, the Transformigation Highway, the Merry Graveyard, the Danube Delta, the underground wine cellars in Moldova, the pelicans and shipwrecks off the coast of Sulina, the Salt Mines and the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance. I would definitely recommend Nicholas and am very pleased with how easy he made the trip, adding a very personal touch and affable approach.

His expansive knowledge of Romania history, culture and heritage sites was extraordinary. Dan was amazing - extremely knowledgeable (20+ years of experience!) explained the history of not just the major sites but of Romania, sites on the road, and fun facts along the way. I had spent time researching a private tour guide for our 3 days in Romania before joining a river cruise. Nicolas seemed to be frequently recommended so I booked him early ( 8 months) to ensure his availability during the summer season. The booking and payment process was simple to follow online. All communications with Nicolas were promptly responded to and he recommended some great accommodations which I also reserved directly with the properties. Together we planned a rough itinerary which Nicolas adjusted to include more as he gauged our speed at moving through castles etc. We really appreciated his effort to include as much as possible in our limited timeframe. We visited Peles and Bran castles, Brasov, Sighisoara and Sibiu and several other monasteries before driving the Transfargarasan Highway back to Bucharest. His historical commentary was very insightful and we really enjoyed our discussions. We highly recommend his services and look forward to reconnecting with him when we return to Romania in the future because 4 days was nowhere near enough.

We had the best day with Nicolas! We had the advantage of getting a personalized trip, Nicolas created our itinerary based on our interests and timeline. We only had a few hours available to see Peles Castle, Brasov and Bran, but managed to have an amazing last minute trip. Very knowledgeable, informative and great sense of humour- which is important when we spend the day together. Highly recommended, a unique experience, a 5 star trip all the way.

The cozy Sighisoara, the overwhelming nature along the Transfagarasan road with the bears as icing on the cake, the rich history, we couldn't get enough of it. We stayed in good hotels that were centrally located so that we could explore or take a walk in the evening. We experienced Transylvania as a beautiful and versatile country with an honest, polite, accommodating, calm and respectful population. The most important link in this adventure was of course the guide, Nicolas, a professional, punctual and passionate guide who gives more than you expect.

This is my second time of going with Nicolas. The first time was in 2018 with my daughter and it was great, so the next time I visited Romania, this time with my wife, I decided to ask him for a private tour. We started in Bucharest and continued to Transylvania, Maramures, Bucovina, then again Transylvania. This is a gorgeous country with a lot to see, from landscapes to people, to art and a rich history as well... And Nicolas was the perfect guide. He drove us in a very comfortable car. He was very flexible in terms of stops and time... We had a lot of conversations about the history, the geography and a lot of anecdotes as well.... He is extremely pleasant, very knowledgeable and understands very well what a foreign tourist would want to see... We visited small private museums, true gems... We stopped in scenic places, for photos or for tasting some local specialty... The hotels that he booked were vey good, boutique hotels with a beautiful interesting look and with all the needed amenities... I strongly recommend this tour.

The tour to Cozia Monastery, Turnu Monastery and Sibiu was a very nice experience. Monasteries are surrounded with greenery and roses and my guide Nicolas showed me the caves near the Turnu Monastery, where hermits once lived. The interior of the monasteries is very beautiful and Nicolas talked to me about the biblical scenes in the frescoes. In Sibiu, we saw the Orthodox Cathedral and climbed the tower of the Lutheran Cathedral, which enabled us to see the panorama of the city. It was a pleasant sunny day, full of greenery and a nice walk in the Old Town of Sibiu. On our way back, we also visited the Cornet Monastery, which was the most beautiful among the monasteries we visited. I recommend Nicolas as a very kind and knowledgeable guide, always ready to add something interesting to the agreed tour.

I originally booked my Bulgaria tour with another provider on TripAdvisor but they cancelled without warning less than 48 hours before the tour (which was scheduled for our last day in Romania). I reached out to Nicolas and he was willing to squeeze us in on short notice! It was an absolute delight having him as a tour guide. We enjoyed how real he is about the history of a place - adding his own knowledge and lived experience to the official history of the place. We grew up Catholic and he took the time to explain the differences between Catholicism and Orthodox Christianity, while highlighting these key features in the monasteries we toured. For lunch, he took us to a restaurant with food so good we were still full 8 hours later! And, to add to all of this, Nicolas was quick to lend my mother euros to purchase a souvenir when she did not have enough cash on her. This tour was the absolute highlight of our trip and I'd recommend Nicolas Adventure Tours to anyone!

We were very fortunate to have Nicolas as our Driver/Guide for a full day trip from Bucharest to Bulgaria to visit the Rock Monastery and Veliko Tarnovo. From pick up to drop off Nicolas shared his wealth of knowledge and interesting facts of our trip. . Heading South out of Bucharest he pointed out landmarks, architecture, Soviet era building and factories, along with the Romani/Gyspy homes and the fascinating history of these people. As we crossed the Danube River into Bulgaria we learned the differences and similarities of Bulgarian and Romanian cultures and history. The Rock Monastery was of simplistic beauty whereas Veliko Tarnovo and its reconstructed massive fortress dominates the area and takes you back to medieval times. All in all it was a wonderful trip for us and Nicolas played a great part in making sure it exceeded our expectations.

Nicolas was a most excellent guide! His knowledge of the city, the history and the stories, especially from communist times was impressive. We enjoyed his candor and his explanations and attention to detail. 2 day tour around Bucharest and Targoviste. We took the Bucharest City Tour with Dan and Targoviste tour with Nicholas. Both Dan and Nicholas were very informative and we learned many things about the social, political and religious aspects of the Romania's history. They were also very helpful and went out of their way to help us with some small errands. We visited Targoviste, the former capital of Romania. had a chance to step into the beautiful, Ottoman design inspired Curtea de Arges Monastary in Arges. We went to Poenari fortress but could not go up as it was closed for restoration works. However, we did manage to see some wild bears that made the trip worthwhile. I would highly recommend them. You will be in good hands when you are touring with them.

Nicolas guided me on a superb 2 day tour of Transylvania. I loved everywhere we visited, particularly Sighisoara & Peles Castle & I want to come back & do a more extensive tour of Romania. I can thoroughly recommend Nicolas, he is knowledgeable, friendly & was great company for 2 days. I’m definitely coming back & I will be travelling with Nicolas.
