About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- janehP9695DJ0 contributionsBudget tour with great food & guideLots of interesting animals. Food was great and guides were too. Accommodation was very basic and had seen better days. More activities are needed for colder days as there is nothing to do when not on a tour. We left a day early as it was so cold! In warmer weather it would be different but be aware that it’s cold showers and no fan/aircon. The windows are mesh and huts made from plywood so super basic but clean.Written July 12, 2024
- 894yanaa0 contributionsVery nice tour if you are short of time and do not plan going deep in jungle.Very nice tour if you are short of time and do not plan going deep in jungle. We enjoyed the lake and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us different birds species and monkeys 🐒Written July 4, 2024
- 40frenchis0 contributionsawesome sceney and well worth the time and effortthe lake is absolutely stunning and the trip to get there is interesting and a decent workout (1.5 miles thru jungle but on nice boardwalk the whole way). my guide miguel was very fun and fill of info, he really worked hard ro make the trip so good. we actuall did see plenty of monkeys, otters, birds and turrles. only gripe i had was i waited quite a while for trip to get started and the organizers came to pick me up twice my hotel after i had been waiting at their officesWritten June 21, 2024
- NorthStar557156667380 contributionsGreat Experience, Staff, and Value!Great food and accommodations! Fernando was our Guide. He was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job of spotting animals and explaining the science and indigenous history. We saw capuchin and squirrel monkeys, (heard howlers) , black and white caiman, Macaws, capybaras, heron, piranhas, tarantulas, giant grasshoppers, frogs, turtles, tons of birds, a tree boa constrictor, I caught a catfish in the river—- this was worth every penny - great staff!Written June 10, 2024
- Łukasz P0 contributionsScam and waste of precious time - disasterIf I could have only turn back time I would never use this agency again. Wasted precious time in a such beautiful country of Peru. Let's start step by step (but please see point 4!!) 1. We have been told to arrive by 7:30 in Puerto Maldonado and we did waited to 9:30 before we even moved from the agency 2. First day was let's say ok, nothing special, trips have been splitted with long breaks between - we saw 4 monkeys, 1 capybara family and two caymans so it was nice but In a span of 10hours all the activities took maybe 3-4 hours - rest was the waiting time 3. Tambopata entrance - they charge 20$ for the entrance while it actually cost only 30 soles!! 4. Last most important, I am a no swimmer, simply don't know how to swim. Not making any troubles, in case of water activities I always ask the company if they provide life jackets. In this case the answer was positive, I also told the guide multiple times (both in english and spanish) I would need a lifejacket. 2nd day I woke up at 4:30 for the lake sandoval activities, and by the time we reach the canoes - around 07:00, it has been clear that there are no life jackets. I declined to board, the guide told me there is nothing to worry about - I told him that as he has been notified earlier I would require a lifejacket - he said it is not possible and the tour went on the lake without me. They simply left me for few hours in the jungle as it is supposedly my fault and I am the troublemaker. They offered me 30 soles as a refund out of 530 I paid. Big no no - it is a scamWritten May 9, 2024
- Emma B0 contributionsWould recommend!!We had such a great day! Samuel, our guide was really knowledgeable and passionate about the rain forest. We saw loads of wild life. The rain forest was stunning. So was lake Sandoval. It was paradise. Lunch was delicious too! A trip well worth taking, good value for money.Written May 1, 2024
- Miranda W0 contributionsstaffs are soooo rudethe guy at reception desk and the tour guide are sooooo rude. Drivers and guide are never on time. - Zeeshan R0 contributionsAwesome, memorable tropicalwilderness experienceIt was an awesome experience. The lodge is clean and the staff is friendly. Fernando, who was our guide, was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. We got to see alligators, otters, and a lot of other cool animals, bugs, and plants up close.Written March 5, 2024
- Pacificseahorse0 contributionsReasonable cost for three days/two nightss to learn about the Amazon jungleWe started off with a jungle walk, learning about the local fruits and trees which was very good. All together we saw four species of monkeys, capybara, brown agouti, caiman, and quite a few bird species, including toucans, but no jaguar or sloths. Many hairy tarantulars! The food was OK and they catered to vegetarians. The accommodation was basic but we had electricity due to solar panels, and cold showers which was a big relief due to the hot and humid temps. Day 2 the trip to Sandoval lake was very good. We could have had an activity between lunch on the second day and the evening walk at 6.20pm. Day 3 the canopy walk was very good. Our guide, Ronald, was very knowledgeable about the biology of the different animals, plants, and trees, and passionate about the conservation issues of the area.Written February 9, 2024
- ABGood110 contributionsWell planned and enjoyableWe really enjoyed this tour, especially since our guide, Tito, was so good. The tours were good, though I wish we saw more on the afternoon hike in the jungle. The salt lick is not much to see since it is so far away. The meals were good. Make sure you have purified water. Accommodations were good too, though it would be good to have hooks and a flat surface in the washroom. I had to put my clean clothes on the floor before having a shower. And there were 3 of us, so no place in the washroom for personal items. A good camera is recommended!Written December 7, 2023
- N5332QIjessicac0 contributionsCan highly recommendEverything was great, it exceeded our expectations, the accommodation was great, the food was great, the activities were great we got to see so many different animals and the guides were amazing!Written October 23, 2023
- adamfP9986WY0 contributionsAmazing wildlife and authentic jungle experience. We had a great experience with lots of activities and time for relaxing. Ronald, our guide, had an almost supernatural ability to spot wildlife, day and night and had great knowledge of everything. The heat was oppressive at times, so think about going earlier in the season (Sept and Oct are likely the hottest months), or plan to spend a lot of time near the river where it is breezy (There's a weak cell signal near the river as well when Wifi doesn't work).Written September 30, 2023
- emilijaj1790 contributionsGreat jungle experienceThis was a great experience, the lodges were with everything you need in a good price to quality ratio. The garden was beautiful and had a nice swimming pool to chill after activities. Vegetarian food options were creative and healthy. Our guide Fernando gave us a lot of intormation about the jungle and its plants and animals. Fernando was very interested to create a good experience for our group. We saw many animals and were amazed by the nature. The only downside would be the weak wifi, but maybe the jungle is a good place to disconnect:) Very much recommend. - 438geoffp0 contributionsTheft ruined an otherwise great experienceThe tour guide, John Borris, was excellent, very knowledgable and friendly. He made the experience very interactive and educational, as well as catering the experience to our needs. The lodge had a family employed to cook, clean, etc. They speak no English but if you can speak Spanish, they are very kind and supportive people. All good and drinks were provided and excellent standard, with many local dishes served. Unfortunately, the negative review stems from the fact that one of our guests item of clothing was stolen from our suitcase whilst we were away. It is normal to leave bags at the office whilst only taking necessary items on the excursion, we did this. The item stolen was a very expensive brown poncho, which was 100% in the suitcase at the time of leaving, and not there upon returning. The guest in question is very upset. The staff seemed not to know where it went, so I do not believe this occurs frequently, but it did with us. Be warned about leaving your special possessions with Pelota :)Written September 5, 2023
- susiekar30 contributionsSurviving the Jungle! We did this tour in August 2023 (the dry season) and saw an incredible array of animals: caymans, otters, a capybara, tarantulas, parrots of all kinds, monkeys…the list goes on! The activities planned for this trip were great: starting with a day walk learning about the jungle and how to survive if we ever got lost, fishing & kayaking on the river, a nighttime cayman boat ride, visiting a monkey island, a night walk to see tarantulas, a canopy walk with zip line and a beautiful canoe ride around Lake Sandoval. Whilst the tour itself was brilliant, it is important to flag how intense the heat, humidity and mosquitoes were. We found it incredibly challenging given there was no relief and at times, it was too much. Having said that, Amazonica Lodge was brilliant with a lovely swimming pool, good food and small smoke pits throughout the resort to support in keeping the bugs at bay. It is worth noting that the huts have no fans due to the limited electrical supply to the resort. Our guide, Ronald, was friendly, knowledgable and great fun. Having lived in the jungle until he was 16, he also had a number of incredible stories to share. Thank you Ronald! This was definitely an experience, with many highs and challenges, that we won’t forget. One thing that will stay in our memories for a long time is how Ronald effortlessly caught a cayman with his bare hands and then brought it onto the boat to show us up close. Ronald’s respect for nature was incredible to see and we came away with some of that same appreciation.Written August 24, 2023
