Budget tour with great food & guide
Lots of interesting animals. Food was great and guides were too. Accommodation was very basic and had seen better days. More activities are needed for colder days as there is nothing to do when not on a tour. We left a day early as it was so cold! In warmer weather it would be different but be aware that it’s cold showers and no fan/aircon. The windows are mesh and huts made from plywood so super basic but clean.

        Great Experience, Staff, and Value!
Great food and accommodations! Fernando was our Guide. He was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job of spotting animals and explaining the science and indigenous history. We saw capuchin and squirrel monkeys, (heard howlers) , black and white caiman, Macaws, capybaras, heron, piranhas, tarantulas, giant grasshoppers, frogs, turtles, tons of birds, a tree boa constrictor, I caught a catfish in the river—- this was worth every penny - great staff!

Scam and waste of precious time - disaster
If I could have only turn back time I would never use this agency again. Wasted precious time in a such beautiful country of Peru. Let's start step by step (but please see point 4!!) 1. We have been told to arrive by 7:30 in Puerto Maldonado and we did waited to 9:30 before we even moved from the agency 2. First day was let's say ok, nothing special, trips have been splitted with long breaks between - we saw 4 monkeys, 1 capybara family and two caymans so it was nice but In a span of 10hours all the activities took maybe 3-4 hours - rest was the waiting time 3. Tambopata entrance - they charge 20$ for the entrance while it actually cost only 30 soles!! 4. Last most important, I am a no swimmer, simply don't know how to swim. Not making any troubles, in case of water activities I always ask the company if they provide life jackets. In this case the answer was positive, I also told the guide multiple times (both in english and spanish) I would need a lifejacket. 2nd day I woke up at 4:30 for the lake sandoval activities, and by the time we reach the canoes - around 07:00, it has been clear that there are no life jackets. I declined to board, the guide told me there is nothing to worry about - I told him that as he has been notified earlier I would require a lifejacket - he said it is not possible and the tour went on the lake without me. They simply left me for few hours in the jungle as it is supposedly my fault and I am the troublemaker. They offered me 30 soles as a refund out of 530 I paid. Big no no - it is a scam

We had such a great day! Samuel, our guide was really knowledgeable and passionate about the rain forest. We saw loads of wild life. The rain forest was stunning. So was lake Sandoval. It was paradise. Lunch was delicious too! A trip well worth taking, good value for money.

        Awesome, memorable tropicalwilderness experience
It was an awesome experience. The lodge is clean and the staff is friendly. Fernando, who was our guide, was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. We got to see alligators, otters, and a lot of other cool animals, bugs, and plants up close.

        Well planned and enjoyable
We really enjoyed this tour, especially since our guide, Tito, was so good. The tours were good, though I wish we saw more on the afternoon hike in the jungle. The salt lick is not much to see since it is so far away. The meals were good. Make sure you have purified water. Accommodations were good too, though it would be good to have hooks and a flat surface in the washroom. I had to put my clean clothes on the floor before having a shower. And there were 3 of us, so no place in the washroom for personal items. A good camera is recommended!

Amazing wildlife and authentic jungle experience.
We had a great experience with lots of activities and time for relaxing. Ronald, our guide, had an almost supernatural ability to spot wildlife, day and night and had great knowledge of everything. The heat was oppressive at times, so think about going earlier in the season (Sept and Oct are likely the hottest months), or plan to spend a lot of time near the river where it is breezy (There's a weak cell signal near the river as well when Wifi doesn't work).

        Great jungle experience
This was a great experience, the lodges were with everything you need in a good price to quality ratio. The garden was beautiful and had a nice swimming pool to chill after activities. Vegetarian food options were creative and healthy. Our guide Fernando gave us a lot of intormation about the jungle and its plants and animals. Fernando was very interested to create a good experience for our group. We saw many animals and were amazed by the nature. The only downside would be the weak wifi, but maybe the jungle is a good place to disconnect:) Very much recommend. Emilija and Jonas

        Surviving the Jungle!
We did this tour in August 2023 (the dry season) and saw an incredible array of animals: caymans, otters, a capybara, tarantulas, parrots of all kinds, monkeys…the list goes on! The activities planned for this trip were great: starting with a day walk learning about the jungle and how to survive if we ever got lost, fishing & kayaking on the river, a nighttime cayman boat ride, visiting a monkey island, a night walk to see tarantulas, a canopy walk with zip line and a beautiful canoe ride around Lake Sandoval. Whilst the tour itself was brilliant, it is important to flag how intense the heat, humidity and mosquitoes were. We found it incredibly challenging given there was no relief and at times, it was too much. Having said that, Amazonica Lodge was brilliant with a lovely swimming pool, good food and small smoke pits throughout the resort to support in keeping the bugs at bay. It is worth noting that the huts have no fans due to the limited electrical supply to the resort. Our guide, Ronald, was friendly, knowledgable and great fun. Having lived in the jungle until he was 16, he also had a number of incredible stories to share. Thank you Ronald! This was definitely an experience, with many highs and challenges, that we won’t forget. One thing that will stay in our memories for a long time is how Ronald effortlessly caught a cayman with his bare hands and then brought it onto the boat to show us up close. Ronald’s respect for nature was incredible to see and we came away with some of that same appreciation.

        Jungle adventure
Wonderful wildlife and pristine jungle adventure with aras, monkeys, caimans, and big tarantulas. Beds were comfy and the kitchen created some special vegan menu, super tasty! Great garden and pool with some canopy and zip line in the back. Highly recommend Marcos as a guide!

Incredible tour, staff, lodge and food
We had a fantastic time on the 4D/3N jungle Adventure 03 tour. Seriously well worth the price. Our guide Fernando was very knowledgeable about all the plants, animals, indigenous people and general questions we had about Peru. My partner and I agree that out of all the people we have met in Peru, he’ll be the one that we remember most often, a really nice man. We saw loads of monkeys and birds as well as many other animals each day, like black, white and dwarf caimans, as well as capybara and other animals too! Fernando was incredible at spotting animals and was quick to pick up tarantulas on our hikes! The lodge was also nicer than we expected and the rest of the staff were very friendly and it was such a great environnement. The resort had fruit trees like starfruit and others we hadn’t ever seen before and Fernando took us around in our spare time to pick fruit and try them! The food was also really great and different each day. I’m Pescatarian and they had great replacements for me! They would add an omelette, avocado, fried fish, extra potato and beans or other foods that were delicious. The pool was cleaned often and a great relief on the very hot/humid days. Our room was also cleaned very well by housekeeping. They did a great job. There were lots of bugs on most of our tours so definitely bring bug spray/ a bug jacket and long pants/shirts made of light material. It is hot and buggy. But the area around the lodge was much better for bugs because there were many bug repellent smokings around, I was even comfortable walking around in shorts when I needed to get to the main dining lodge or wear a bikini in the pool. Overall, I highly recommend this place. This will be one of our Peru highlights.

Must go if you ever thought about going to the jungle
First day we went for a short hike in jungle near the lodge. Be sure to have repellent, because there is a mega lot of mosquitoes. Later we went to monkey island, but couldn’t find any monkeys, they are used to humans as there was a rehabilitation project and after project they were transported to this island so they are not afraid, hypothesis is that they were already filled their bellies with food and weren’t interested in having more of it. So it was a little disappointment. So that why I am giving 4/5, everything is alright about agency, it just like weather, you can’t control it. And in rainy season there is more food so better chance to see monkey up to close, maybe even hold them in hands or something, is in dry season. In the evening when it got dark we went on a search of white caiman crocodiles, they become active at night. We found only one, but guide said that is quite hard to find them, so it is fine. But anyway, we saw only the head, because the river has more water in rainy season, in dry season you could see whole body. The second day early in the morning, at 5am we left for Sandoval Lake, Tampobata national reserve, so it was really great, we saw fire, brown and yellow capuccino monkeys, macaws, an animal similar to capybara, from the same family, it looks alike, but it’s just smaller, tarantulas, lizards, we saw caiman too and saw whole body, a lot of different species of birds, slots. And you get to paddle with kayak around the lake, having breakfast in other side of the lake, you come back to port and then to the lodge, lunch and after some free time, back to Puerto Maldonando. About food. It was really delicious, you get even a dessert. From my experience, I recommend doing short hike + monkey island + white caimans at night and Sandoval lake the second day on dry season and on rainy season I think it is better to do canopy bridges + Sandoval lake for 2 days. Or you could stay one more day to see a native family daily life. Guide was really good, told a lot about forest, animals and stuff, I even noticed that our guide told us more stuff than other guides of other agencies as I overheard them. I strongly recommend this experience, but came earlier to adapt to high temperature if you are going on rainy season. After I got back to Puerto Maldonado they let me drop my backpack at their office as I waited for the bus, had a meal and they took me for free to bus station

More than disappointed, very average lodge, no ventilation, and holes everywhere, the first evening the neighbors had a tarantula on the ceiling. It says in the sale that there are plenty of animals to see. The first evening just after our arrival, on a canoe to see the caimans, we saw 3, between 50 cm and 1 m, although they tell you in the ad that there are lots of them, that's not true. . But we saw 3 capibaras. The next morning, wake up before dawn, for Lake Sandoval... And there, the highlight of the show! Approach walk 3/4 hour, then you get on a canoe and it's you who rows (In the sun), in the ad they sell you parrots that eat the earth on a wall, it's supposedly forbidden... So no parrots! we had friends in another lodge and they went there and saw them! In the advert we also tell you about giant otters. We're still looking for them. On the other hand, lots of hoatzins (very beautiful bird), then return to the canoe on the Madre de Dios river. So another 3/4 hour walk under the sun! Afternoon, head to monkey island... An island of 10 km2 and only 18 monkeys on it, imagine the probability of seeing them. In short, a big buffoonery. If you want to see animals, this is not the right place or the right lodge. Finally, return to Puerto Maldonado, where the boss (Carlo) was very unpleasant, so don't bother! In short, false advertising, lodge to avoid.

The tour guide, John Borris, was excellent, very knowledgable and friendly. He made the experience very interactive and educational, as well as catering the experience to our needs.

The lodge had a family employed to cook, clean, etc. They speak no English but if you can speak Spanish, they are very kind and supportive people. All good and drinks were provided and excellent standard, with many local dishes served.

Unfortunately, the negative review stems from the fact that one of our guests item of clothing was stolen from our suitcase whilst we were away. It is normal to leave bags at the office whilst only taking necessary items on the excursion, we did this. The item stolen was a very expensive brown poncho, which was 100% in the suitcase at the time of leaving, and not there upon returning. The guest in question is very upset. The staff seemed not to know where it went, so I do not believe this occurs frequently, but it did with us. Be warned about leaving your special possessions with Pelota :)
