About the operator
- AETL200300Must do adventureJP was a great tour guide and very helpful with the group. We unfortunately had great swells due to bad weather and could not do the entire lenght between dunes and sea. JP did try but due to conditions we had to return, was a great experience and would recommend this to anyone.
- Trek1363243257400One of the most memorable and extraordinary trips of a lifetime - highly recommendThe highlight of our trip to Namibia. An absolute must do! JP was an excellent host and incredibly knowledgeable guide getting us to Sandwich Harbour safely to see this extraordinary landscape. Thanks JP!
- Dave W00Excellent tour!Fantastic tour along edge of ocean and into high dunes. JP was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and accommodating. He provided a wonderful lunch which we ate in a sheltered oasis. The dune driving was thrilling, we were on the edge of our seats. Lots of stops for photos. Would thoroughly recommend
- C5463IKthomasb00Amazing experienceWe highly recommend this tour. We had an amazing experience in the dunes. Our guide (Martial? Hope the spelling is correct!) was very knowledgable and friendly. Our kids (6, 4 and 1) had a blast, too!
- LeeAnnH_1300My husband's favourite activity in NamibiaSandwich bay on its own was fab, especially with a guide like JP who knew his stuff. Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, interesting stops. But the 4x4 driving over dunes was exhilarating and so much fun. He was such a calm and fun guy to take us from novices to confident on dunes, definitely an experience to look back on. We ended up driving to Pelican Point (and Soussesvlei) too, which I don't think we'd have been brave enough to do if not for this tour.
- Moni-SD100One of the two highlights of our Namibian adventure. THANK YOU JP!!JP is a "grandmaster chess player" when it comes to getting you safely to STUNNING places in the desert! I have been in extreme sports all my life and I know what JP was up against in these dunes as high as mountains. This guy is a world class guide. Professional, easy-going, never relaxing but you will never know it. If you ever skied down a couloir ... and you see this guy doing it SAFELY in a car ... then you would know what I am talking about. I saw other cars got stuck where JP just sailed by. THIS DOES NOT JUST HAPPEN! He is confident but always very calculating. Even in tense and intense moments, while you do not know how he is doing it, your seat is telling you that you are very stable and safe. Booking was easy, he was very attentive to our ideas. Without any pressure he explained what is doable and what not. When he gives you an assessment then he just tells you how the facts are going to line up. How you personally feel about it - that is your problem. When we got there i SAW why some things were not doable. We felt the entire time as if we are his only clients in the world. The views we saw were breathtaking! Tip to travelers: SLOOOOW DOOOWN. Reduce the number of points you are going to see then just soak in the moment at each one.
- LeeAnnH_1300Mesmerising dunesI’m just a hobby photographer but really wanted to come home with some dune shots- the afternoon light couldn’t have been better. JP was a fab guide, the locations were perfect and his advice very helpful. He also took shots with me in the dunes, and helped me take some shots that I couldn’t due to an injury the day before. Thoroughly recommend!
- S4111LPmaurof00half day tourA bit disappointed. It was a rainy and windy day, and this could happen, but we had the feeling that our driver wanted to finish this tour as soon as possible. In fact the tour lasted 4 hours (pick up 7.30am - return at our b&b 11.30am) instead of 5 as promised. We passed a small lake full of flamingos (never seen before so crowded) without any stop, we spotted a iena with a bloody muzzle; not even the time to observe it well that we had already left. Paying 350€ (2 adults + 1 child) we would have expected a different treatment.
- BarakK600Best Sandwich Harbour Tour Operator! We loved our tour! We thoroughly enjoyed both the wonderful sites and JP's pleasant company and knowledgeable explanations. JP's service is really personal and attentive and he is an overall great guy to spend a few hours with. When a car of a different company got stuck, he didn't hesitate to drive over and help them. If you are considering a Sandwich Harbour tour, I would definitely recommend JP's boutique experience over one of the bigger companies. You are promised to have a good time!
- Luca_Paverani00Amazing ExperienceDespite the weather was a bit bad, Hans and the other guides have been amazing. We saw a lot of animals and the dune driving was a unique experience. Excellent the food they offered to us with the vegetarian option for two of our friends. Absolutely recommended if you'll come to Namibia.
- maryvilla00Best tour in sandwich bayWe couldn't have found a better guide than JP! The tour has been amazing and the views are stunning! Higly recommended!
- alfonsod99700Great Excursion with Red Dunes and JPJust came back from Namibia Have done the self drive with JP from Red Dunes... It was a blast! JP is very knowledge and nice. He gave me advice and adapt the excursion to my level. Would recommend him with no doubt. One of the higlights of the hole trip in Namibia.
- Faly15067000Awesome experienceExcellent service provided by JP, they allways try to help you and ensure you have a lot o fun. Completely recommendable.
- Blandine9743400Magic experienceJP is just perfect. So nice. It was a wonderfull day and it was great to learn to drive our own 4x4 in the dune.
- 122matthiasp00Perfect symbiosis of nature / landscape experience and photographyAs nature and landscape photographer I love the beauty of desert scenery. Together with my friend we were looking for a serious guided tour and found the offer from Red Dune Safaris to be very promising. We booked a one day tour "Seal colony and Sandwich Harbour". Our guide JP not only promised - he delivered in every regard. He is reliable, gallant, well educated and with all the local and cultural expertise which complements the numerous impressions of the beautiful landscape to an unforgettable experience. Being a hobby photographer as well he intuitively understood what we were looking for. We enjoyed a wonderful day within this unique landscape, perfectly organised and have taken along great impressions finally nailed on our camera memory cards. Clear recommendation.

What an amazing experience! Our guide, JP was knowledgeable and ensured we had a great experience. He showed us more than we expected, and the landscape took our breath away. He made us fall in love with Namibia!
His lunch pack was excellent and we had more than enough to drink.

I was the only one booked and they took me anyway. A fantastic tour that covered history, culture, geography and more. Spitzkoppe is absolutely gorgeous and a must see. The wonderful tour was topped off with a champagne lunch in view of the peaks. Highly recommended.

This full day tour was really worth while because of the excellent organization and the beautiful landscape. Our driver and guide André is a wonderful person and in his friendly manner he told us a lot about his country and this great area we were visiting. On a rock site we had lunch and with surprise we noted that even champagne was served. We can only recommend this tour and are looking forward to return to Namibia soon.

We booked a full day tour of Spitzkoppe and it was a total bummer. The guide was a cool talkative lad, but the tools and the programme for the full day were really terrible.
Leon picked us from the hotel and we had a nice start of the morning, driving to the north via the coast and then heading east. A first weird moment was when front left door where I was sitting did not work so every time I had to get out of the car, someone had to open my door from the outside. Second weird thing was why did we have to drive East from the northern side of Spitzkoppe and then loose 4 hours of driving in the middle of nowhere in order to reach the destination which was 1.5 hours via the normal B2 road. We lost 2 hours of unnecessary driving which we could have used to spent at Spitzkoppe and enjoy it.
When we arrived to Spitzkoppe we had lunch, which was pretty decent. Yet, no bubbles were offered. Spitzkoppe is beautiful and we wanted to learn so much more about it. Unfortunately the guide just hired a local guide to explain to us about ancient rock paintings and that was it. No history, geographical, cultural, or whatever explanation was provided to make you feel and to understand the place. Just getting to the rock drawings and the places for taking nice pictures. This is not what one would expect from a Guide! I could have learned more by browsing Wikipedia!
This is not where the disaster ended, but where it started. Just before heading back, we asked for more water. The guide was out of water! We were in the middle of nowhere with no water in the basket. Totally not acceptable when you go for a full day trip! Apparently they had only 4 x 0.5l of water in the catering basket, which we had drank on the way to Spitzkoppe. Completely unacceptable! We were furious, but this was not all. When we entered the SUV and headed to the hotel, the air-conditioning of the car broke down so we had to drive two hours on a dusty road without water and without airco.
A nightmare. My partner and I just wanted to reach the hotel and finish this “adventure”
In conclusion, I would never go back to this provider. Paying 200 GBP + for this felt as a robbery at the end of the day. I was ready to get in an argument to have a refund, but in the end we were so exhausted that I decided just to let it go. Terrible experience!

Dear Maksim,
We are terribly sorry that you feel that this experience deserves only a 1-star or even better a refund!
In our past reviews of this experience, we have had only great feedback from guests on Spitzkoppe tours.
Clearly everything that could go wrong with the vehicle did- that is life and is not something that we could predict or had planned specially for your "adventure".
Also understand that the roads used to get to locations like Spitzkoppe is gravel and in parts very corrigated or filled with pot holes, so during a tour anything can break on those roads. Consider yourselves lucky that your vehicle did not break down completely an that you were not stuck wihtout a ride in the middle of the desert!
Perhaps you did not read or understand the itinerary , as it clearly mentions that some of the highlight are the lichen fields and the Zeila Shipwreck that is along the coast, if you did not want to see that then you should have mentioned it to us, and we would gladly have offerred you an alternative route option (we do have another option listed on our website if you take a close look, you will see i there :))
Here is a link to the itinerary that you booked : https://www.reddunesafarisnamibia.com/spitzkoppe-tour
Just to make another point very clear to you, Spitzkoppe is managed by the local comunity, we call this style of management a "conservancy".
NO "outside" guides are allowed to show or educate you about the rock art, ONLY a spitzkoppe guide, this is the rule at Spitzkoppe, so even if you booked a different company, they would also have had to hire a local Spitzkoppe guide to show you around the place. This provides a job for the local guide as well as protection to the ancient drawings.
Perhaps you should have asked the Spitzkoppe guide a few questions? They are very good at their job and usually answer any question about culture, geology and history with a smile on their dail!
I do not understand why you were not offered sparkling wine, this is standard on all our guided tours, I apologise for this and also the water shortage, I belive there was also soda and beers on offer which you could have drank, but this was an error from the catering department- I will deal with them myself.
I feel that if you were so terribly unsatisfied, you could have contacted us after the tour and we could have discussed a refund option for you, rather than have this bad review on the internet.
All the best to you and a happy 2022!
Kind regards
JP & Jacques

I didn’t have a lot of time but really wanted to see Spitzkoppe. This day trip was an excellent personalised tour. Picked up right on time, taken up the coast to see a shipwreck, to the lichen fields, over to Spitzkoppe for a tour and picnic and even an extra stop in the moon landscape. Wasn’t rushed but for everything in really nicely.
Couldn’t give it high enough marks and would definitely use Red Dune Safaris if I’m ever back in Namibia.

We had a wonderful day exploring the desert beauty of Namibia with JP. He is very knowledgeable and was still excited to find a gecko he had never seen, and a new plant he had not encountered. We were picked up promptly in Walvis Bay, and the entire day was spent experiencing the rugged landscapes. We especially enjoyed the Bushman's Paradise, and my husband hiked to the top of the mountain with our bushman guide!

Dear Mr and Mrs Grant,
Thanks so much for taking the time to review our service, I really appreciate it.
I had a great day with you two as well, I confirmed that the gecho we saw is the Carp's Barking gecho, not a new species, but definately not seen often.
Thank you for booking with us, and do call again when you are in Namibia.
Kind Regards

I was picked up from my accommodation and taken on the day tour to Spitzkoppe. My Tour Guide was very organized, accommodating, friendly, and knowledgable. I found them to be extremely wonderful tour company that only added to the experience and the breath-taking landscape to Spitzkoppe. I highly recommend the tour if you have the day to do it, as it is a view you will not regret seeing and will not tire of looking at. I would also recommend that you go with this company as it has been one of the best tours I have taken in all my travel experience.
