They were both so knowledgeable, entertaining and safety conscious as they guided us every step of the way! We were greeted 15‘ before the agreed departure time by Dennis - and spent more than 7 hours with him.
A perfect day filled with jokes, very good humor, excitement, entertainment, useful and interesting information and superb vistas!
Even if you are racing for the first time on desert sand with 80 km/h, drive down a 100 mtr dune in an 55 degree angle - you feel safe and secure at any moment. The ride, the views, the different corners we drove too - all excellent.
A very nice lunch was included - for my wife with a vegetarian version.
Dennis was answering all and any of our questions, he was knowledgeable about flora and fauna, attentive and respectful towards us - all with a very positive aura and lots of smiles.
We saw flamingos, a jackal hidden in the bush, springbok, seals and a whale (the latter under sad circumstances).
Our ride was worth every penny spent.
With a total trip of 7 hrs Dennis did drive overtime. The reason was that during our ride back to town news came in about a whale who had beached and help might be required. Dennis asked for our agreement and turned around to check whether we could be of assistance in trying to get the whale back into the water. Unfortunately the oceanologist who was present had to turn us and other willing helpers around as the whale was so deeply in the shore‘s sand that it could not be towed back into deeper waters.

Beautiful experience , our Guide and Driver Johannes proved to be very good in explaining the various locations, very prepared and extremely available to all our requests and questions.
Last but not least, he showed some crazy Guide skills while always keeping the vehicle safe.
We really enjoyed that it proved to be a great Guide (local person) as well as a great driver.
We had a great time and it took us to see breathtaking views just right timing to drive close to the ocean along the dunes.

What an awesome day spent with Uwe. I went on a prior tour with a different operator a few days earlier and while the weather didn't agree with us that day (hence booking a second tour), i quickly realized that Uwe's tour was far superior - both from the sites, storytelling (feeling like you weren't being just whisked around to quickly stop and see a few places), through to the personality of Uwe himself. It was a great day that started with fog (made me concerned we wouldn't see much of the dunes/harbour) but as Uwe said "Fortune favors the bold" and when the weather broke we got an almost exclusive view all around us for a few hours as most operators had turned in at that time. Was a great day and am thankful for the trip we went on.

There are a number of 4x4 tours that you can choose from to visit the dunes in the Walvis Bay area, but not all of them give you the full on experience that you get with Desert Dunes & Dust Tours, who also take you to the see (and smell!) the seals at Pelican Point.
Our driver, Jurgen, met us at the harbour entrance and took us to our vehicle. We were part on a convoy of three 4x4s and all of the other passengers were German, so understandably, most of the conversation was in German, but Jurgen made sure that enough English was spoken for us to fully appreciate what we were seeing.
After a brief stop to look at some pretty unspectacular, white, flamingos and reduce the tyre pressures we set off through the lagoons of the salt plant and on to the beach towards Sandwich Harbour. Once we got there it was up into the dunes and, at this point, there were quite a number of other tour vehicles. After a bit of dune climbing and sliding down we stopped for lunch next to the sea, again, with the other tours. Once lunch was over , we parted company with most of the other tours and set off much further into the dunes where Jurgen and the other two drivers really demonstrated their abilities to climb and descend some very steep dunes. At this point we were treated to close up views of springbok, jackals and ostrich.
After some more driving up and down some impossibly steep slopes we set off for Pelican Point and the Seal Colony where we experienced the sight, smell and noise of thousands of Cape Seals. Then it was back to the ship, passing some much more impressive flamingos than the ones we had seen at the start of the day.
For me, this was the highlight of the holiday and we can thoroughly recommend Desert Dunes and Dust Tours unless you are of a nervous disposition, in which case one of the less adventurous tour operators might suit you better.

I just visited Sandwich Harbor, and it was hands down the highlight of my trip to Namibia! The landscape is breathtaking—where towering sand dunes meet the ocean, creating a surreal and unforgettable view.
Our guide, Stephan, made the experience even better. He was funny, knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, and even gave us great recommendations for other things to see and do around Namibia. Plus, his driving skills through the dunes were impressive.
The food provided was delicious, and there was plenty of water to stay hydrated. While the price is a bit higher than other activities, I can say it’s 100% worth it. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Namibia.

We have already booked the tour from home, due to the good reviews and the German speaking tour guide. Communication in advance was problem-free and the arrangement for pickup reliable. We were picked up on time at our accommodation in Swakopmund and were the only two guests at Volker in the vehicle. The tour was entertaining from the first moment, very informative and great fun. Volker is a very prudent driver, with extensive knowledge of the history of the country, flora, fauna and the nature of the dunes, so we felt completely safe, both when driving on the narrow strip of beach and in the wild ups and downs in the dunes. What was great was that we were only traveling with 3 vehicles, so the tour was very individual and belongs to the unforgettable experiences of our Namibia trip. You can't do better!

The drive was fantastic. Touring the dunes in such a free way was phenomenal. Our driver was clearly a seasoned professional educating the guests while keeping us comfortable and safe.
I was a late booking and that got me the very rear seat in the Toyota Landcruiser. I don't think the company likes to do this, but I took what I could last minute on this very busy holiday week. That being said I would support the company's reluctance to place guests in that rear seat. Maybe ok for kids, but the legroom and more importantly the view for photos is limited so ask in advance to get any of the other typical good seats in the vehicle.

We did the Kayak trip with Yasmine (another big thank you to her!) one morning at 8am among the sea lions. There were 6 of us... and we spent 2 unforgettable hours among these playful mammals... who, for the youngest ones, did not hesitate to pull up the kayaks and play with the oars. Very good equipment, we came out almost dry and the coffee/baggel on the beach was much appreciated.. with a view of a whale leaving the bay.. in short one of our best memories of Namibia (with the 4*4 in the dunes)

I had the best time today with Gerhard exploring Namibnaukluft Park and Sandwich Harbour, seeing the seals, and salt beds (where you see the red water). He was a great, safe driver, and even on the steep slopes of the dunes, I never felt uncomfortable. Because of him, I managed to capture so many amazing photos that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to!
One tip, wear flip flops that you can remove and walk on the sand barefoot! It was really relaxing and the sand wasn't hot at all. Plus, much easier than trying to not get sand in your shoes. Speaking of sand, you also get a souvenir bottle that you then fill with your own sand, which I thought was a great touch.
I absolutely would recommend this company and Gerhard to anyone wanting to come and see where the desert meets the ocean. This is much more than a "just ok" tour, and you WILL be disappointed if you skip out on this. This is why you come to Walvis Bay!

Our experience with Desert Dunes and Dust Tours on the Seals and Sandwich Harbour Dune Drive was nothing short of spectacular! From start to finish, it was an incredible journey blending stunning landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and heart-pumping adventure.
We where lucky to go with Uwe. Throughout the tour, Uwe was friendly, professional, and deeply passionate about the region. He shared stories about the history, geology, and wildlife of this unique area, making the tour educational as well as adventurous.
The transition from the coast to the towering dunes of Sandwich Harbour was breathtaking. The sheer size and beauty of the dunes meeting the Atlantic Ocean felt surreal. Driving through the dunes was exhilarating. Uwe navigated with impressive skill, and the thrilling ascents and descents had us cheering with excitement.
The photo opportunities were endless, from vast, untouched sandscapes to panoramic views of the lagoon and coastline. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the refreshments and meal provided, which gave us a moment to soak in the scenery and reflect on the beauty of Namibia.
If you're in Swakopmund, this tour is an absolute must! It’s an unforgettable way to experience the wild and stunning contrasts of Namibia’s coastal desert. We couldn’t recommend it more highly!
