About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 941julesp0 contributionsBest thing that could’ve happened to meThis experience was simply amazing. Java and Aby are beautiful people - inside and out. But they’re not only kind, they are also as local as it can get. Both know a lot about the island. It was almost an educational session - historically and culturally - while at the same time I learned a lot about the food and cooking there. The food tasted delicious. Everything was made and served with love. I would 100% recommend this to anybody visiting the island. Thank you both for an amazing day :) PS: Don’t have anything planned afterwards. If you get along you might just end up spending the day together!Written October 2, 2024
- Sightseer538146677190 contributionsAbsolutely recommendAfter taking the scenic south west tour with Avi and Jaya we just had to book another tour with them! We had a great day touring Port Louis and visiting Cap Malheureux. Again, they designed the tour exactly for our taste. Jaya took us to see the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site and explained all of the history alongside. This was really interesting! Afterwards we went to the market. Jaya seems to know a lot about cooking and she was really great at showing us the different fruits and vegetables you can get at the market! We also went for a great lunch with dim sum and fried noodles in Chinatown, this was really good. I absolutely recommend this tour or any other tour with Avi and Jaya!Written September 26, 2024

- silasw6340 contributionsGreat experience provided by Unwind MauritiusAvi, our driver, gave us an exceptional service, was informative, friendly and helpful. He was very knowledgeable about all the sites we visited and about Mauritius history. He arranged a great experience of lunch at the Rhumerie de Chamarel, including a special celebration of our honeymoon, and made the whole experience very relaxing and not rushed in any way. He also went the extra mile to find some glue for my glasses, which had broken. A true gentleman.Written September 15, 2024

- Dreamer116827981180 contributionsDisappointing long day- half the sights not seen. This what not quite the trip we were promised. We only got to see half the sights we were promised. Ravi our driver was not that experienced ( he told me that this was his fourth trip). The car was not what we would call a SUV. When we got in the car the middle seat belt was missing , it took 10 minutes or so to rectify it. We also had to stop and sit in the car whilst our driver got water ( surely this should be in a cool box and in the car already). Communication was poor- Ravi drove past one of the sights we were meant to see and said we would see it on the way back. During lunch our driver ordered a Pina Colada - a driver drinking alcohol! On the way back it was far too dark to go and see the waterfall and another sight. On the way back to the hotel ( over a 2 hour drive) Ravi got lost twice and took us to the wrong hotel. We did see some of the sights and Ravi did take us to other sights as the road was shut to the lighthouse ( this should have been told to us prior to the booking I thought). We were very disappointed- not the experience we were expecting or promised.Written August 19, 2024

- alexandrapN47NI0 contributionsSouth West visit to Mauritius IslandWe enjoyed a whole day all inclusive outing to South West of Mauritius Island. We were met by our most amicable guide for the day a real knowledgeable polyglot and the taxi driver equally talented linguist and safe driver! We enjoyed the day fully packed sight seeing. First we visited a shop that sold many varieties of different flavoured Rums even a bottle with a dodo within! It was a pleasant rum tasting experience. This shop was very elegant well stocked with local merchandise most tempting unusual cushion covers with dodos long since sadly extinct! Scarves, t shirts, dresses, shorts, shirts, swimwear, nik naks and more. We then visited the Hindu Temple Ganga Talau with Nandi Bull and other impressive Deity Statues as well as the sacred lake with waters from the Ganges River. We received the blessing on the forehead as well as the red cotton thread blessing from the Sanyasi . Within the Temple we received another blessing on the forehead Tilak. The hoot of this visit for me was seeing the several cats watching fish swimming tantalisingly close to them so cute! The next visit was to the amazing model boat making factory in which local artisans displayed their craft of so many varieties of vessels all accurately created in varying model sizes. Our guide and some workers were amazed and delighted as we were too on seeing the Amerigo Vespucci model and our photos of us having actually been invited to visit this very same life size training Clipper. This was followed by a tea tasting we felt so honoured as the Late Queen Elizabeth II had done amongst other famous world leaders. Suitably refreshed after delicious leaf tea tasting we headed for the lunch at the Avalon Golf Course. This was a real treat a served lunch Nouvelle Cuisine Style but with generous portions and artistically very beautifully presented. Earlier we had visited the Trou aux Cerfs extinct Volcano 2 million year old crater which we viewed in safety from a viewing platform .We then visited the Three Gorges National Park with the double waterfall, the 7 coloured earth, the pond with the congregation of giant turtles some seemingly burying their heads in the earth ready for hibernation maybe. The day ended with a welcome visit to a rum factory and more rum tasting most deliciously flavoured Rums also a new departure of various rum flavoured jams. Then a long drive back to our Hotel feeling tired, happy and relaxed as we drove through beautiful scenery mountainous planes, fields of cane sugar, tea plantations, and more.Written May 28, 2024
- mrigakshimaini0 contributionsExceptional all day tourJaya and Avi made my day! It’s a must do when you are in Mauritius! They were attentive and kind to take care of the needs and really made it a cherished experience!Written April 25, 2024
- Mark B0 contributionsA great day out to see the islandWe had a superb day out with our very knowledgeable and friendly guide, Sandeep. He was flexible and planned the day to arrive at specific places at the best times. A proud Mauritian, he was keen to show us his country and conveyed extensive knowledge on everything from culture to food and wildlife. Some of the roads in Mauritius are very tight with sharp turns. This can be uncomfortable for people who may suffer from travel sickness. Overall, we thoroughly recommend this trip, especially if you want to get out of the resort and see Mauritius. Also, the inclusive lunch at the Chamerel rhumerie is superb. The chicken and prawn curry is very nice.Written March 19, 2024
- Öykü A0 contributionsGreat TourGreat day tour for Mauritius especially if you have limited time. We extended our tour to be able to see both North and South part of the island. It was quick but definitely worth it.Written January 21, 2024
- paulhelen20170 contributionsExceeded Expectations!!We booked this trip mainly on the reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed, but it actually exceeded our expectations. Avi picked us up at our hotel, he explained the itinerary for the day and checked what we would like to see. We set off, stopping at various stops and photo viewpoints along the way. His knowledge and passion of Mauritius comes across throughout the day, it’s like spending a day with a new friend. We stopped at Rhumerie De Chamarel for some rum tasting and a 3 course lunch. So, if finally I can give you some advice, it is to just book a tour with Unwind Mauritius, you will have a fabulous day out taking home many memories of beautiful Mauritius 🇲🇺Written December 6, 2023
- Cso19980 contributionsHidden Mauritius in abundanceThis was a fantastic tour of the south of the island. We wanted authentic Mauritius and we got it in abundance. Avi picked us up and took us to Curepipe for breakfast. We sat inside this family run snack bar and enjoyed mouth watering roti and Dholl puri washed down with homemade alouda everything was made by the family and we were shown how they did it. We then went to see the dormant volcano and onto the ship factory via a duty free shopping mall selling absolutely everything. We then drove off road through sugar canes to see an old sugar cane chimney and Avi explained how it would have worked when it was functioning. We stopped at a natural bridge at Ponte Naturel. On to a Tamil Temple nestling amongst the sugar cane field. We walk over an old railway bridge with the highest drop in Mauritius and then on to the beautiful beach of Gris Gris and it’s wild coast. Stopping for lunch at a family run curry and noodle bar we then went off road winding through farmland to the magnificent Rocester Falls. We climbed down a small path and swam in the bottom of the falls with many locals. Avi then drove us along one of the most scenic roads in Mauritius following the south coast to arrive at the stunningly beautiful La Prairie beach. On our way back home we stopped at two view points showing all of the south coast. Avi is a wonderful host and his knowledge of old and new Mauritius is exceptional.Written November 2, 2023
- Cso19980 contributionsFabulous market tour and cooking classThis was a fabulous day, we met Jaya, Avi and Jaya's parents at their house and talked a little about Mauritius and Mauritian food then Avi drove us to the market with Jaya for a brilliant tour. First we were given gateaux piments and taken to a local fishmonger to choose a fish. At the market we had fresh roti and dal puri with a local milk shake then a extensive tour around the vegetable market where Jaya explained all the different vegetables, herbs and spices, it was a very hands on experience smelling the herbs and spices and understanding what to do with all the different vegetables. When everything was bought for lunch we were given a large coconut so we could taste fresh coconut water. Avi was very knowledgeable about all things Mauritian and very passionate about his country and taking people to see the real Mauritius. When we arrived back at their house a feast was prepared by Jaya and and her mum which we participated in whenever we wanted to. The end result was the best masala fish curry we have ever tasted. A genuine Mauritian experience which I would encourage everyone to do at least once!Written November 1, 2023
- Gary B0 contributionsFamily visit to MauritiusAvi was the best host, he was friendly, knowledgeable and went beyond our expectations. The name of the tour is perfect, we experienced fantastic places off the beaten track were it only seemed locals went too. Avi being local was able to introduce us too locals everywhere we went which made the experience more authentic and special. Our girls are 13 and 14 and he involved them throughoutWritten October 23, 2023
