About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 581yask0 contributionsNeed a good guide driver to visit Labuk BayIt's very nice place to visit. You can see many Proboscis Monkeys in the half wild place. Problem is there's no public transportation to get here now. I've got a Grab driver to get here but there's no way to go back to the city. I was so lucky because my friends was there with a nice guide driver, named Mr. Azrien. He took me to Sepilok with my friends. I recommend him to hire as a guide and driver. Very reliable, very flexible person. If he's not there, I have to walk back to main street about 12km!Written February 14, 2025
- W5280QTmaxw0 contributionsIdeal one-day trio to see the wildlifeAmazing trip seeing the orangutans, proboscis monkeys and sun bears in one day. Our guide was knowledgable and funny. Would recommendWritten January 9, 2025
- I3031QCandrewm0 contributionsAmazing Borneo (And our Guide Brendan)! We had Brendan as our tour guide for a week as we travelled from west to east across Borneo. The tour was jam packed so prepare to stay busy - there is a lot to do and see! At every step of our itinerary from the cultural village, rainforest walks, botanical gardens, river wildlife sightseeing, Orang tan rehab centre, Proboscis monkey sanctuary and overall history of the island Brendan is a Guru! His breadth and depth of knowledge about his country, history, botany and wildlife was just incredible. Brendan also has a great sense of humour which kept us entertained on our bus tours between sights and accommodation.Written July 24, 2024
- B4165FSlaurieb0 contributionsA glimpse into wildlifeOur tour was part of Tripadeal from Australia for 10 days. Brendan the tour leader was fantastic, so informative and funny, and passionate about his country. We really missed him when we did the 2 days add-on to Kuala Lumpur. It was great to see the different varieties of monkeys and orangutangs learning skills to allow them to go back and fend for themselves in the wild. The visit to see the Sun Bears was a highlight for me, and to hear about the wonderful work being done thereWritten March 18, 2024

- grahamwT2165BM0 contributionsReally good tour cross North Borneo with lots of information and great sights.A really good tour with Brendan as the guide and Roslyn as the driver. Brendan was a font of information not jus about the specific sights but also about life in North Borneo. Sepilok Orang-Utan reserve is a must and the Proboscis Monkeys as well. The war history is confronting and worth reading about before you get there.Written October 14, 2023
- 657lest0 contributionsGREAT two week tour with this companyWe did a fully inclusive ( guide, all accommodation, meals, tours and adventures) two week tour from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu organised by this company - it was FANTASTIC. No dramas or issues, everything was seamless and high quality. Our guide Andrea Q was AMAZING - great fun, very attentive and ensured our experiences at each destination were maximised. We came home with so many tremendous memories and no regrets! Thank you Borneo TT&T!!!Written August 13, 2023
- fionabT5508SB0 contributionsFabulous 10 days in Sabah, Malaysia - Borneo10 days from Kinabalu to Sandakan. Started tour with a visit to the beautiful, tropical Manukan Island, part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. Spent time at both the Kundasang and Sandakan War Memorials. War Memorials aren't normally my thing - but finding out about the Sandakan death marches was a sobering experience - a piece of history many Australians may be unaware of. The local markets we managed to fit in along the way were interesting and varied. Sabah Tea, Mount Kinabalu and the Botanic Gardens were all a delight. Our 3 days in the rainforest watching for wildlife from our boats on the Kinabatangan River were wonderful. We saw a mum Orangutan with her 1 year old baby - but it was the Rhinoceros Hornbills who were a real highlight for me. Our tour guide, Brendan, was fabulous - a wonderful host and fantastic at spotting wildlife. Felt very cared for and safe for the entire trip.Written August 5, 2023
- S2759IVclairen0 contributionsDay trip from kota KinabaluWe had an amazing day . Really pleased with pick up and drop of at our hotel the Shangrila rasa ria as had read earlier reviews cars were always waiting for us excellent service. Our guide was knowledgeable and ensured we got to viewing early to get best view before it got busy . We went to see the orangutan but have to say the probiscous monkeys were a real highlight for us as so many and came so close. Would recommend trip to other travellers especially if worried about pick ups to airport etc.Written June 17, 2023

- rodd2500 contributionsOverall very good. Guide was exceptionalI recently returned from the Trip a Deal Borneo tour which was conducted by Borneo Trails. Our guide Dominic was fantastic and everything you could ask for in a guide. He was friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The only complaint I had was that a lot of the meals were bland and repetitious Chinese style.Written April 12, 2023

Sarah and Adam collected us from our hotel in KK promptly and I must say Adam was a first class driver throughout the day . Sarah gave us so much information as we drove along, pointing out interesting sights and giving us the history of the area too.
We visited a local market along the way and tasted the delicious red pineapple. Sarah’s botanical knowledge really enhanced the trip to the botanical gardens too. The trek to the suspension bridges in Poring Hot Springs was definitely worthwhile and lunch was super tasty. Well done Adam and Sarah and thanks for a great day 🥰

We enjoyed the trip. The guide was friendly, we have seen the Mt Kinabalu, the hot springs, had tree top walk and visited botanical garden. Really nice, despite being stuck in a traffic jam on the way back. Recommended.

We wanted to see Kinabalu National Park and Mount Kinabalu, which is why we booked this expensive tour.
The service beforehand was excellent, but the tour itself was the worst we have ever done...
The guide, Mr. Farid, only spoke 2 sentences to us. At lunch he left us with the words "lunch" and there was no other explanation of the stops. We then read a lot on Wikipedia - you don't need a guide for that ;-).
The really worrying thing and why I am writing this bad review was the DRIVER. I have never experienced such bad and questionable driving. He drove the bus like a car, did not keep a safe distance from the vehicles in front of him and started very daring overtaking maneuvers in the corner area where he could not see. The passengers in the back of the minibus were literally thrown around and the driver did not adjust his driving style. He also did not seem to be familiar with appropriate driving in the mountains or with a manual transmission.
The minibus was an older model and not well motorized. We even had to get out once when the bus was going uphill because we wouldn't have been able to move otherwise. On the way downhill, the driver drove too fast again and we were afraid that the minibus would skid on the bends.
We have never felt so unsafe with a driver. I informed the agency afterwards and really hope that they can find a new, more responsible driver.
Conclusion:
Kinabalu is worth it and we recommend that everyone visit it up close. This tour, however, was a nightmare. We recommend booking a Grab instead. You definitely have a better chance of getting a motivated and knowledgeable guide in a safe vehicle and there won't be much difference in price either.

Ryan was our tour guide for this day out into the jungles of Borneo. There were some utter delights in the day: the Kinabalu Botanical Garden was fascinating. The Poring Hot Springs were a little odd to western eyes, but not without appeal, but the real treat was going on beyond the canopy walkway to the natural waterfall and going to swim in it!
My tour was with 25 male sailors, mainly in their 20s, from a naval vessel, but Ryan found absolutely the right level with the group and was infectious with his enthusiasm for his subject.
Lunch was very good and substantial enough to sustain my group for the day.
