About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- yiyuc20230 contributionsA must-do tour!It was a really great and informative tour! Our tour guide Beatrice is very passionate and knowledgeable. I learn super a lot from the intensity of the culture mix and history of Penang heritage! It’s a tour truly wothwhile!Written August 30, 2024
- Scoots20880 contributionsExplore local cuisine and UNESCO listed George Town in one easy tourA great introduction to the huge variety of food available in Penang from different nationalities and cultures combined with a walk through parts of the UNESCO listed George Town with the opportunity to learn a bit of local history and customs. Beatrice was an excellent host and guide, ensuring that no-one left any of the stops wanting more and the 3 hours flew by. We were a couple but would be great for families with school age kids. Even fussy eaters would find something to enjoy.Written August 10, 2024
- LindyAuckland0 contributionsMoney Well SpentSpent the day with Eng our assigned Tour Guide. Was a great day, money well spent as we would not have got to all the places we visited in one day. Was great that it was flexible as we had already spent 1 whole day in Penang and had been to a few sights of interest, so we chose the places we couldn't get to by vehicle and walked to the ones ourselves that were close by. Highlight was Penang Hill. We caught the funicular which was a quick and exhilarating ride up and down. Eng suggested we pay a bit extra to get to the front of the queue which was great advice as there were queues of people waiting which I suspect would have been for quite some time. Eng was very knowledgeable on all aspects of Penang, history, political system etc etc whatever, he had answers to everything so hence we learnt a lot about Malaysia. Definitely recommend this packageWritten July 19, 2024
- Odyssey6896140 contributionsFive star foodThis is an excellent tour. With James you’ll leave with much more than a full belly - this tour a wonderful mix of local food, history and culture delivered with much humour and entertaining stories from James. Don’t eat lunch!Written July 18, 2024
- 382braml0 contributionsA welcome circuit breaker for our conference. Fantastic experience.Eng was amazing in terms of knowledge, making it fun, and being flexible. He got us in the fast line when too many people were waiting at key sites, which helped us save time for other places. His car was very comfortable, with first class and business class seating :-) A great day out for the whole group.Written July 12, 2024

- TPP010 contributionsFantastic food tour with JanesWe had an excellent food tour with Janes. He was really knowledgeable and friendly, proving samples of most of main Penang food highlights. We definitely left feeling full. Added bonus was additional history of Penang as we walked the streets. Definitely recommend and do as soon as you arrive, Janes gave us other tips / recommendations for next few days. George Town definitely lived up to its foodue reputation 😋Written June 22, 2024
- Beth E0 contributionsLovely day outOur guide, Jeffrey, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and also patient when we took a while in the batik factory! We saw old things and new things, historical and natural features of Penang. He was ready with a wealth of stories about the places we visited. Highly recommended.Written June 11, 2024
- AnnaTch0 contributionsExcellent food tour and guideThis was a fantastic food tour and James made the whole experience fun and informative. There was so much amazing food along the route that it was hard to pace myself. James was happy to adapt the course to cater to our wishes which made it feel far more personal than other food tours I have been on. He even gave me an additional street art tour at the end which was most gratefully received.Written May 22, 2024
- rosezoilr0 contributionsFun day in PenangMy first time in Penang and CE, my tour guide was very friendly and I learned a lot from her. I particularly love the Penang hill, the street arts as well as the Kek Lol Si and green mansion. It was a relaxing and fund day with CE.Written April 19, 2024
- kvoll0 contributionsGreat Penang tourThe tour was perfect. Four hours worked well with a little one and the flexibility to do the things we were most interested in with suggestions from our guide was perfect. Having someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the places we visited was great. Plus we were treated to some surprise local goodies along the way.Written March 30, 2024
- Jörg B0 contributionsA must have tourWe had a very exiting day full of decent views and places with Lester our guide. He was very nice and gave us so many informations and insights to all the places we visited. At the end of the day he sent us a link to all the pictures and movies he made of us at the stops. Great memories to watch and to show back home. We asked for a food recommendation for dinner. So he took us to a Hoka Food Market with some of the best local food, we had so far.Written March 29, 2024
- TrueNorthTravels0 contributionsWonderful food tour- overview of Penang’s food wondersMarvelous tour with James today. LOTS of food. Perfectly curated with plenty of cultural tidbits. James tailored the tour for us (I’m gluten free/light) and was able to eat almost all the food. The best part is tasting foods you maybe wouldn’t know to order or perhaps wouldn’t dare. Highly recommendedWritten March 21, 2024

- richardrR5099VH0 contributionsPerfect way to see Penang IslandThis was a tour for myself and my wife. Our guide Josh contacted us 24 hours before the tour. He arrived 15 minutes early at 9.45am but told us to take our time in joining him. He had a lovely spacious new air conditioned car for the two of us. We had a great day visiting many sites and Josh was very helpful in agreeing the itinerary. He took us to one of the local restaurants he goes to for lunch - we were the only westerners there. Good food and drinks were less than £4 a person. He dropped us back at our hotel at 6.15pm after a memorable day and he WhatsApp’d us the photos he’d taken of the two of us at various locations during the day. Can’t really fault the tour or his service. We’ll done Josh!Written February 23, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed our Penang tour with our guide Vincent and would highly recommend this trip to others. Communication from him and his company was great prior to the tour and everything worked like clockwork. We were on a cruise and it is always a bit worrying when you book independent trips, but we were so impressed from booking to the end of the tour. Compared to what we could have booked via the ship this tour was excellent value for money and far more enjoyable, as we could go at our own pace and saw everything we wanted to and more. Vincent was so knowledgeable and accommodating, we had an idea of what we wanted to see and he took our list and turned it into the perfect day in Penang. His commentary was pitched just right for us and his friendly, intelligent conversation made the day we spent with him our favourite of our whole trip. An interesting, colourful, memorable day with a lovely man, thank you so much Vincent.

We booked this tour at the very last minute and was lucky enough to have Lester assigned as our guide. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel, he is all smiles and very informative about our plans for the day. From trip to Penang Hill on the funicular where he showed us where to get the best view , countless pictures that he took at the Habitat and then the fun stop at a cafe where we enjoyed some delicious coffee ,sandwiches and Ondeh cakes, Lester was full of energy and eager to provide us with as much information as possible. His passion and love for Penang is just infectious.
We did spend more time than originally planned at the Penang Hill but Lester was so considerate that he still took us to enjoy some local dishes and showed us some fabulous local street arts even though it was past the time for our end of the tour, and still delivered us safely back to our hotel.
All in all, we had a fantastic and fun day with Lester on this 6 hour flexible tour. And by flexible, they will cater the tour to your interests. So if you plan to visit Penang anytime soon, make sure you book this tour and ask for Lester !

Thanks for your review. Yes indeed you need to spend some 2 to 3 days to thoroughly enjoy what Penang has to offer. Penang is also the top destination for local tourists, and many Malaysian take advantage of the school holiday to visiting Penang. We as tour guide, Lester included, wanted our guest to enjoy like a friend would. We will try our best to give the best service. Thanks and may you have a nice day. Cheers.

KS Lee our guide was great. We chose to visit Penang Hill which, whilst very interesting, used up a significant chunk of our 6 hours because we had to wait for 4WD transport to get up and down. On reflection, we would have kept Penang Hill as a separate visit. We visited the Botanical Gardens which was well worth it. KS had in depth knowledge of the rich history of the gardens and its flora, in particular the many spice trees growing there. It was fascinating! He showed us as much as we could fit in in the remaining time and had relevant stories to tell at each stop. Georgetown and its amazing history was the definite highlight for us and K.S demonstrated his depth of knowledge explaining everything along the way. In particular we loved Little India and its character. We could have spent a whole day just exploring that. Definitely worth another visit. Thank you KS

Hi Richard and Evelyn. Thanks in taking the time to write the review. Glad that you enjoy the tour despite Penang Hill congestion on 4WD. Hope you go back to Little India and did some further exploration by yourself. Cheers

Mr Eng was a brilliant tour guide. Knew exactly what we wanted, very knowledgeable and went the extra mile to make sure we had the very best experiences including front seats on the train down Penang Hill. The 6 hours flew by as we visited various temples, beautiful old houses, Georgetown street art and Chew Jetty. Mr Eng told us stories about traditions, cultures and pointed out notable buildings enroute. Thank you so much for a brilliant day. Do not hesitate to book this trip.

The tour we had was great. The guide was very informative and had a plethora of knowledge of the area and history. Unfortunately, there was a lack of communication regarding cost. We wanted the Penang Hill funicular but it was closed which he knew and didn’t tell us so instead took us to the Jeep trail where it cost RM160 to get to the top which we wouldn’t have done had we known. He also took us to a mansion which was great but wasn’t on our list which was another RM50 we hadn’t accounted for. Overall, the tour showed us what we wanted to see but clearly stating those hidden costs would’ve been appreciated.

Hi Helen, thank you for your review. We listed out those attractions that were free and those that needed entrance fees on pdf ticket when you booked this tour. Upon receiving your review, I had a discussion with the tour guide and was told that you listed 2 places to go i.e. Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill and teh rest of time you leave it to him to plan out. Unfortunately Penang Hill funicular train (charges: RM80 for fast lane X 2pax foreigner = RM160, same price as jeep) was down for yearly maintenance (9Jan - 14Jan23). So, the tour guide took you guys to ride on the jeep since it was the same pricing. However I agreed that the tour guide should had let you know of the charges beforehand and you then decide. Also on the remaining of time time, he brought you to Pinang Peranakan Mansion where charges were RM25X2 = RM50. This was one of the best museum around town and it was well worth the visit albeit you over run your budget. Overall we want positive experience for our guests and we take the review as constructive feedback to further improve our service, in your case, on communication whether guests are OK with paid attractions or otherwise go to free attractions. Wishing you best days ahead. Cheers.

Excellent private tour. Our guide James was extremely knowledgeable about Penang and all of the places we wished to visit. Despite having known Penang for many years, James still managed to show us many new places and experiences that I hadn't known about. We finished the tour feeling like we knew the island so much better than we did at the start of the day and would not hesitate to recommend James's services for a great private tour experience.

Our guide was friendly and had a good balance of giving us free time and staying with us and sharing information. Unfortunately we didn’t follow the plan we came up with ahead of time and we missed some key things we wanted to see. Since we had a plan we didn’t come as prepared and when the tour went off schedule we were scrambling to reschedule on the fly.

Hi Anika, The itinerary in the website listed some 18 attractions in Penang which will takes some three-full-8 hours time to complete due to the distributed manner of these attractions on Penang Island. Your tour was a 6 hour tour and definitely there will be some attractions that you may not able to cover in that time frame. All in you visited some 5 top attractions in Penang within a full 6 hours tour time frame before going back to the port. Maybe if the tour guide know of the places you like to cover at the beginning of the tour, it may turn out to be better. We apologise that your tour in Penang did not meet your 5* expectation and will learn from it. Thanks for the review and have a nice day. Cheers.

My extended family (parents, brothers, relatives) all had a good time on our tour hosted by Active Dynamics. Mr. Eng was extremely engaging, knowledgeable, humorous, and personable. He looked out for our group's needs and requests. He was professional and on time. This was our first time visiting Penang Island, and we really appreciated having him guide us around the island just shortly after New Years.

We had a great with Josh. We started with Kek loh si Temple followed by Penang hill then oriental spices Garden and buttlerfly Garden. Though our 6 Hours were over Josh took time for the butterfly garden as our Kids really wanted to Go there . Josh is extremely nice and knowledgable , could answer all questions and always took time and explained everything. Even After the butterfly Garden Josh tool the time to introduce us to the white coffee and some Malaysian food. It was great and highly recommended .

Must do tour! We were lucky to get Lester as our guide and he was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and very friendly. He talked all the time about different things and we learnt so much. We spent time at Penang Hill. He walked with us the whole time and told us about the history. He also took lots of photos for us. He is a great photographer.
We then went to Kek Lok Si temple and spent just a small amount of time there. It was good to see - but you don’t need long there. Lester then took us down to Chew Jetty area and drove us around showing us different sights. He also took us to a very good hawker market where we had lunch.
At the end, he gave us a map and drew out areas that we should see.
Highly recommend this tour. It saved us time and we learnt more than we would have doing it on our own.
We have two older teenagers and they enjoyed it too. Sometimes it’s hard keeping them entertained with tours - but they did it enjoy this one as we kept moving around.

You only get what you pay for, this trip is the best I’ve taken in Malaysia. You sort your own itinerary out and are not time restricted. The guides are friendly, accommodating and very professional.I would not hesitate recommending them as they are used to dealing with cruise ship patrons.

My husband & I are interested in the tour, but, we won't need to visit all 18 stops because we will have visited some with our tour company whom we will travel from Singapore.
We will have a free day which we want to visit half of the itinerary.
Can we still do that but spend longer time in some places such as Penang Hill & Kek Lok Si?
How many people would be in the tour please? We don't mind sharing but we don't know how you can plan if we only want to stop at half of the stops.
Or may be best if we have 2 half day tours?
Written December 14, 2019
yes - it was just the two of us - and we went, and stayed, as long as we wanted in each stop -
