About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- OntarioTraveler90 contributionsSomething to do before flying out of TokyoThis is a great temple located close to the Narita Airport. It will be a nice short trip from the airport to Narita Station, and then a 20-30 minutes walk through the old town to the temple. You should also check to see if the hotel you are staying at Narita to see if they provide shuttle buses to the Narita Station. We are fortunate that our hotel does provide that shuttle. The temple covers a decent area and its buildings are both nice and historical, particularly the pagoda which is very well maintained and colourful. Adjacent to the temple is the garden with pond, waterfalls, pavilion and bridge, and is well worth a walk through.Written September 2, 2024
- 119AngelaD0 contributionsOne Day tour of Nikko from TokyoOur tour guide was Noby Kono. He was a wonderful guide for our Nikko experience. We saw all the wonderful sights and also learned a lot of history along the way. It was nice to have someone with us to select a great lunch option and also provide recommendations on what we should do and how to treat each sight respectfully. I highly recommend this experience and guide!!!Written June 28, 2024
- camilathegreat0 contributionsBeautiful and Historic Kamakura TourMy family and I had a great time on this tour! The Kamakura bus system can be confusing to foreigners and Kono-San did a great job of navigating us through the best parts! He also had great insights into history of the area and Japan overall. We learned a lot! Arigatōgozaimasu! I will note that this is a walking/bus tour so bring comfortable shoes and enough cash for the buses and metro.Written June 16, 2024
- ilokcin0 contributionsIf you only see one temple it should be this one!Beautiful temple and not too busy. Great toilet facitilities right across the road at the Car Parking lot. Busy with school children but they are well behaved (Japanese). Allow 2 hours to walk from one of the regional train stations and to explore all of the Temple grounds.Written May 27, 2024
- evann8840 contributionsA good look at NaraThe trip was interesting and very informative. Our guide was very considerate and helpful. His English was excellent but he spoke softly. He spent time determining just what we wanted to see. He helped us with our ICOCA card and took many photos of us which he transferred to my wife's phone even though it took quite a bit of his time at the end of our tour.Written May 17, 2024
- faustinol4120 contributionsWhy is there no water bus included?Tour guide of city was good. There is no water bus included so this is extremely deceiving. Tour name says “with water bus ride” but is it is not true. We had to pay separately. The English announcements could not be heard at all. Skip TripAdvisor tour and get a private tour without water and pay less.Written April 14, 2024
- Manish G0 contributionsOk, but some nutrition advisablePretty good guide Knowledgeable All day metro ticket included Downside - I would have expected breakfast or lunch or at least even a drink to be included at this price pointWritten March 29, 2024
- wildflowerablaze0 contributionsComprehensiveGreat, comprehensive intro to Japanese history. Shrines and temples beautiful. Fringe benefit of learning how to navigate the train and bus system! Guide was very knowledgeable and patient. I felt like I was traveling with an uncle. Lunch was really good.Written March 10, 2024
- Txnbybirth0 contributionsBeautiful parks, sky tree and a building that looks like beer.Beautiful parks, temples and interesting things to see (a building that looks like a beer mug). Loved the fish market! Maximize your time and skip the water bus ride. They only do it in Japanese so not worth the time.Written March 6, 2024
- nmlhats0 contributionsSweet guide but far from fluent in EnglishI am a travel advisor and accompanied several clients on this tour, which I booked only a couple of days before our flights, so kind of last minute. While our guide was very sweet and friendly, he was in no way equipped to give an informative tour in English. He imparted almost zero information or commentary about the history of the town as we walked through Narita's main street to the temple (Q: Can you tell us about this architecture? A: Traditional house."). He did point at several items displayed in front of shops: "Mochi" "Rice crackers" etc. No real context or narrative. We spent almost two hours at the beautiful Shinshoji temple, but he gave us very little info about its history, life at the temple, only the most basic info about Buddhism, etc. "Pagoda" "Smoke for blessing" "Carp" or Q "What is this building?" A: House. Many houses." Q: "What are the drummers performing or what is the meaning of their performance?" A: "Later." We learned what we could about the temple complex by reading the signs in English. He took us to a local place for lunch and helped us order--it was good. But my clients were dismayed at the language skills of the guide--I won't say his knowledge of the temple was limited, because he is a licensed guide and I am sure he knows plenty. He was just unable to communicate much of anything to us in English. As a travel advisor, it was embarrassing to have this guide with my clients and they let me know their disappointment, but fortunately it was not as expensive as some other similar tours. The worst part is that we had just finished two weeks in Vietnam and Cambodia with some of the best guides I have ever had in my 17 years in this business. So this wasn't a good ending to the trip! The other problem was that somewhere on the Viator listing it said that the tour includes private transport (I have the screen shot). It does not. I am perfectly happy to use the train but we had to scramble at the last minute to find airport lockers for our carry on bags, and the yen coins to put into them (we gave a French couple four euros for 600 yen); and then we had to withdraw 10,000 yen from the ATM to pay for 2300 yen in train tickets--the machine only took cash or a specific Japanese card. It would have been nice to know all of this in advance instead of stressing out and wasting time. The guide was extremely nice and warm, and emailed us pictures of us at the temple, helped us do some good luck things there, and chose a good lunch place, so I'm giving this tour three stars rather than two. I am sure he is a treasure if the clients he is guiding speak Japanese. But the agency who sent him should reconsider sending him out to guide clients in English. It was truly one of the least satisfying and least informative tours I have ever experienced.Written February 5, 2024
- Leisha1160 contributionsgreat tour with an experienced guideKono san did an excellent job taking me around to see all of the sites on my wish list. He was very knowledgable about the history of the places we visited and explained the customs as well. Kono san was also able to find great photo locations. I wouldn't have been able to fit as much into a single day or been able to use the subway so efficiently without his help. It is a great tour for anyone looking to fit as much into a day as possible with an expert guide to help them make the most of the dayWritten November 17, 2023
- ProudPar3nt0 contributionsTour cancelled without an update from company in a timely fashion! We were so excited to take this tour but didn’t get to experience as were informed of no guide 2 hours prior of start time. I was never contacted or emailed regarding any cancellations. I reached out to ask for time of pickup the morning of. The response was that the trip cancelled, can I switch to another day. It was too late to swap to another tour on the same day because all were booked up. I agreed to adjust to the next day and asked if the date change was automatic to the next day. The rep Maya stated no and will confirm my pickup upon booking a new reservation. Unfortunately, there were no available dates for another 48 hours. The options weren’t feasible due to our vacation ending in 48 hours. Had I been notified in a timely fashion I could have possibly found another tour the next day and fulfilled my family’s destination goals. I know things happen but I expected better communication than what I received.Written October 28, 2023
- laurielV2130NP0 contributionsGreat tour, excellent guide!I couldn't be happier with our guide, Yumiko. She was so knowledgeable as well as gracious and kind. We enjoyed our day with her. She was always considerate of our needs and handicaps; always checking if we were doing ok. She was very experienced; able to time our excursions with the train schedule. The places we saw were great; she knew the best spots to visit. She really made the day for us. I would book any tour that she was guiding.Written October 27, 2023
- geordiew8050 contributionsFantasic Tour, Got Everything On Our List DoneWe planned to stay 12 days in Japan and Tokyo was our first stop. My Wife and I took this tour. I sent a list of places I wanted to see and even time of the day we wanted to see them. We got to see everything we wanted to see when we wanted to see it. Our guide was Noby Kono. He made sure we had tickets for items in high demand prior to the tour. This ensured we got to do everything we wanted. He sent a spreadsheet of all items and timelines (arrival, stay time, departure) ahead of time so we knew exactly what to expect. We traveled all over the city by subway. This was great as Kono-san taught us the subway system and a trick about getting day passes to save time and money. I used this knowledge in other cities we visited. It was a great tour and we even got a history lesson at each stop we visited that again came in handy for other portions of our trip. I would highly recommend one of these tours especially if you want some help getting familiar with the public transportation system around Japan. Big thanks to Kono-san for making this possible.Written August 10, 2023
- 424gracey0 contributionsYumiko is the best! You are an good hands if you are lucky enough to have Yumiko as your guide! She is super professional and extremely kind. She was prompt in meeting us, and her English was excellent. She custom tailored an itinerary which was not only efficient, but nicely varied with good resting stops along the way. She was extremely knowledgeable, and took the time out to explain Japanese history, cultural relevance, and even current trends. She was highly engaging, and despite being engrossed in conversations, she was always aware of our surroundings, knowing exactly which subway stops and transfers we need to take. We saved a lot of time using her as our expert tour guide instead of trying to navigate ourselves. She was worth every penny, and we could not be more more satisfied with our experience! Highly recommend Yumiko!!Written August 5, 2023

I thoroughly enjoyed my day trip to Nikko!
Yoki Nakajima was my guide and he is 5++ star!! He contacted me in advance of my arrival to Japan, sent background information on all the sites we would visit and helped me through purchasing our Nikko passes and train tickets in advance. On the day of the excursion, we had a little extra time before boarding our trains, and he suggested a quick side trip to Sensoji Temple. Yoki shared a wealth of historical information as we visited each site. We skipped the ropeway ride because unfortunately it was a super foggy day. I had told Yoki that I was interested in purchasing a kimono as a souvenir. With our extra time from missing the ropeway ride, we returned to Tokyo earlier than scheduled and he took me to several shopping areas in Ginza and Shinjuku to search for some. Definitely above and beyond the call of duty!
The sites and entire area are beautiful. I regret that I did not have a couple of days to spend there to enjoy the hot springs and lake, do more hiking and explore all of the shops.

Hello Cynthia,
With your heart-warming review, I can't but feel myself becoming Shohei Ohtani
of tour guides. Joking apart, it was really fun to guide you in Nikko and Tokyo. I felt blessed for being a tour guide. I believe your Japan tour is continuing amid the cherry blossom and scenic beauty of Japan.
Best wishes
Yoki

We had excellent experience with Yoki on November 30th 2019 when we went to Nikko. First thing - Yoki is very organized. All trip was well planned and executed. He scheduled all public transport we were supposed to use and kept us on track. The selection of the lunch place he picked (Marple restaurant) was perfect. Food was delicious and the whole place was charming.
Overall Nikko worth the entire day. So many things to see - breathtaking views, mountains, waterfall, ride on the rope way, Toshogu shrine (just stunning beauty), etc. It was our last day of Japan so i really enjoyed a good mix of beautiful nature scenes and historical places.
Very recommended!

Dear guests
It is very kind of you to post such a warm and positive review of our Nikko tour.
I believe your family could enjoy the tour so deeply because you have tailor-made the tour to your satisfaction by sufficient prior email communication with the guide. This is an ideal case of the private tour.
I wish your family a merry Christmas and a happy new year and a success in your new venture.

Hi, I am interested in this day trip. However, I will be staying at Nikko Station Hotel on 18 Dec. Can both of us meet the group at Nikko Station directly?
Will there be any discount in the ticket price since we are not taking the train?
Written November 1, 2019
Hello
I am a tour guide who developed this tour.
Thank you very much for taking interest in my tour.
I read your inquiry. My answer is as follows.
In stead of giving you discount, I will expand my stay in Nikko on December 16. That is, I will be at your guiding service from 9:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.
By doing this, I will be able to add one more destination to your tour in addition to the current four destinations, which are Shinkyo Bridge,
Toshogu Shrine, Akechidaira Plateau , and Kegon Waterfall. New destination can be determined by listening to your requests.
For example, we can ride a boat cruise on Lake Chuzenjiko, or we can visit Yudaki waterfall ,or Ryuzunotaki waterfall.
Or, we can add one more World Heritage complex in Nikko area.
I hope you like my offer.
