After experiencing Takayama and Kyoto in previous weeks, my partner and I found ourselves wondering why we had arrived at a comparatively tiny and small town wedged between the famous Gifu and Takayama. Upon waiting for Dai to meet us at the train station for a Sake Brewery tour and tasting session, we were prepared for the worst but we found our first impressions completely unwarranted as our friendly and well-spoken Japanese tour guide (fluent in English) proceeded to turn a seemingly lifeless small village of 1000 people into one of the most memorable experiences of our entire Japan trip. Dai is a knowledgeable gentleman whose passion for both Japan and foreign visitors is infectious. Whilst we only had the pleasure of enjoying Tenryo Sake Brewery with Dai over the course of an afternoon, we are sure that he will deliver the same experience, regardless of the place and activity; you will most certainly not regret it.

We look forward to returning in the region and participating in more of Umeseko tours with Dai in our next Japan trip!

Dear Iris & Donovan, Thank you so much for the lovely comment on our experience in the peaceful country town of Hida. I was so glad to see you and show you around the sake brewery with some tasting session. As I told you during the tour, sake (Nihonshu) is one of the most precious cultures in Japan. I and the sake brewery are so proud of it, which encourages us to spread it out abroad. In addition, it is worth understanding the background. Culturally profound enough to soak yourself in the world! Thanks again for your kindness. Enjoy savoring the sake in your home! Warm Regards, Daisuke

This is one of the most fun, educational, and interesting tours our family has been on. We were with our adult children and had an absolutely terrific time. Das is an amazing tour guide -- knowledgeable and very passionate about teaching us about the culture and history of the Takayama region. Highly, highly recommend!

Dear Michelle, Thank you so much for posting a lovely review about the local sake brewery tour. The day was one of the most memorable day for me since all of your family amazed things you saw and heard in a whole time of tour. I am also happy to see you learned a lot about sake during the tour and of course loved the taste. Surely proud of the time we spent together and I also appreciate your participation. Not easy for you to come back to Japan but I hope it will become. Wish you the best of luck! Warm Regards, Dai

This Sake tour was an easy train ride from Takayama. The tour guide was there to great us at the station and took us to a local Temple and one of Japan's earliest roads on our way to the Sake tour. Even outside of the Sake production season, the factory was still open to show us the different equipment and rice's that were used. The tour concluded with a tasting or many different Sakes from traditional to flavored. Sake cups were provided with purchase. A great selection of Sake was available and I learned a lot!

Dear Ashley, Thanks for coming and sharing your memory with us during the local sake tour. I am so glad to hear that you liked the experience so much. Surely, the sake you had and bought there was one of the best in Japan. As I told you, we have plenty of clear water from mountain, which enables us to make great rice. Hope you will come back to Japan one day soon. Thank you so much again. Warm Regards, Dai

It took a full day of travel to get to Takayama, but this tour was one of the main drawcards and I had high expectations. It didn't disappoint. Dai was friendly and personable, and made us feel warmly welcomed. The tour was small and intimate. Being in a small rural town, it felt all the more special. I'm grateful I had the chance to peek into a sake brewery and to be introduced to the intricacies of sake brewing.

The sake tasting at the end was generous, and I discovered wonderful new tastes in the various types of sake we tried. Luckily there's a shop on-site for you to take home your favourite sake!

Dear Angela, Thank you so much for posting a wonderful review of local sake experience. You seemed to be keen on Japanese culture especially on sake. Honored to show you around the sake brewery. As I told you during the tour, flavor of sake depends on main ingredients such as rice and water. So each region has its own flavor. Next time you visit Japan, you should try some of other sake bottles! Hope to see you again one day. Warm Regards, Dai

The whole experience was fantastic. Dai was very informative about sake, the local region and the cultural issues in the region. The sake brewery and the local assistant gave a complete picture of the make of their style of Sake.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting this area.

Dear Bruce, Thank you so much for a great review about the local sake tour. I was also happy to show you the details of sake in the real factory. As you thought during the tour, sake is very unique to make. Water, rice and Koji, those ingredients dramatically change the taste of sake, and there is no bottle of sake that has same flavor with another one. It might not be easy to get sake bottle in Australia (costs too much I guess) so now you are really missing the taste. Hope you will come back to Japan to find another favorite bottle and buy tons of sake here. Warm Regards, Dai

My partner & I went on this tour and loved every moment of it.
Didn't expect to get to sample so many different types of sake at the end and I must admit I was quite toasted by the end of it.

Picked up both the mid tier bottle & premium bottle for the trip home and once everything is sorted again I plan to return to get more.

Dear Kieran, Thank you so much for writing a great review about the local sake experience with us! It reminds me of the day we spent together, and you were really drunk in the real sake brewery. Definitely I am happy to hear that you still want to drink them again. When you have a chance, you come back to Japan to grab tons of sake bottle which cannot be packed in your suitcase. Very nice meeting you. Hope we will see again. Warm Regards, Dai

My daughter and I met Daisuke and a customer by chance at the train station as it was a last minute trip and we joined them. We began by a visit of a shrine, then the brewery. I have already visited a brewery but the highlight here was the detailed explanation of the different versions of sake. I can now drink knowledgeably ! And Daisuke is a passionate and friendly ambassador for this art. Patrick (Tahiti).

Dear Patrick, Thank you so much for such a great comment about our sake experience. Literally, it was a lucky coincidence to meet you, and a wonderful day as well. Nice talking with you. There are hundreds or thousands sake breweries in Japan but the one we visited is extraordinary with no exaggeration. They are always welcoming and open for any visitors to show their factory. Besides, they offered you a lot of different kinds of sake for tasting. Hope you like Japanese sake much more and taste it in your home too. See you again, we will always welcome you coming back here. Warm Regards, Daisuke

I've been to the Hida region a couple of times but always wanted to explore the surrounding towns. Been on the lookout for things to do and came across this site. So glad I ended up booking this tour. Dai-san was an amazing host who did his research and was able to explain and guide us through the town. You could tell he had a good relationship with the people and places that were part of this tour. The food was amazing but more importantly the explanation behind it. The miso was the highlight for me as the taste was not your typical miso you get at a grocery store. It had a lot more depth and was even paired with toast during our visit. It was also educational to see how it was made, something we weren't aware of despite eating it on a regular basis. All in all an excellent trip and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to venture off the tourist track. We will be back for more!

Dear Chris, Thank you so much for joining us and writing a fantastic review on the local town walking tour. I also had a really good time with you and your mom. To my surprise, your knowledge about Japan was outstanding. You said you had been here for couple times but you know better than ordinary Japanese people. It was my pleasure to take you to the small town of Hida and share some local stories you have never heard, especially about food. The miso brewery always does a good job. As I said during the tour, I make miso soup with that miso brewed there since it is extraordinary, much better than any other miso available in Japan. Though it was just 3 hours walking tour, the moment spent with you was so memorable. Hope you will be back to Takayama area in the near future and visit us again. Thanks a lot! Warm Regards, Daisuke

This was a great tour. It was well worth the train trip from Takayama, in fact the train trip was really lovely as well. Dai our guide made it not just a sake tour but a very interesting quick trip of the beautiful town and it’s history. We learnt a great deal from him and would highly recommend the tour

Dear Moira, Thank you so much for writing the fantastic review. Really glad to see your comment especially, you say it is worth a train trip from Takayama. We make this product mixed with the local history deeply connected to Takayama. It must be good to know more about the Hida region. Sake itself is superlative because the brewery use the best rice and water given from the plenty of nature in this mountainous country. Next time coming back to Japan, visit us again to join the bike tour. Nice meeting you! Warm Regards, Daisuke

We loved this tour. It was very informative and the host was lovely and knowledgeable. It was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about sake, and anyone who wants to taste a lot of it on a brewery tour!

Dear Joanna, Thanks for your time to write the great review. Just a short time to spend with you, but it was really nice meeting you. We can taste sake in Takayama old town but only 2 or 3 flavors at each spot, and in a rush because of too many tourists there. This sake brewery kindly offered 9 kinds of sake for you and it was enough time to savor each to understand the difference. Hope you have a good time to drink the sake you bought as a souvenir. See you again one day! Warm Regards, Daisuke
