This food and culture walking tour of Takayama will open your eyes to a more intimate, local side of Japan. Don’t stress about language barriers: You’ll have a guide with you the whole time to act as translator, order food, and give fascinating insights. You’ll visit a sake brewery, a miso maker, a market, restaurant, local shops, and see hard-to-find countryside views. Included tastings make for a hassle-free experience.
What to Expect
After meeting your guide at a central location, start your action-packed culinary and cultural tour of Takayama. You’ll learn all about the history of the city and why its isolated location led to such an interesting culture.
Visit a sake brewery to find out how Japan’s signature drink is made. There’s no need to pack lunch, as you’ll visit a variety of eateries to taste samples, including a miso maker and a local restaurant.
Other highlights include a colorful morning market and a visit to the old town, which has been recognized by the Japanese government as an area with important traditional buildings. You’ll learn about local life, food, and culture in Takayama, and also chat with locals with the help of your guide.
