- tomyupw00Amazing tour and Superb Tour GuideThe tour was excellent and our tour guide was warm, knowledgeable and attentive to details. During the tour he even offered to keep my water and sweater for me. On top of that, he drove us into town to an ATM at our request. The view of the fall was amazing and being an elderly tourist, our tour guide made it pleasant and comfortable for us to enjoy both the spectaculouss view and the leisurely walk. I would recommend this tour to anyone with no reservation!
- 598sarmav00Visit to Chitabe recommended by Savannah Safaris and ToursAfter having failed to see a Cheetah in the wild, I approached Savannah Safaris and Tours to help me fulfill my dream. Emmelyn of Savannah suggested that I visit Chitabe Camp in Okavango. I stayed in Chitabe Camp for 3 nights and I must admit that it was the best Safari experience I ever I had. I could see a pride of 19 lions, apart from 4 one month old cubs, 3 Cheetahs,4 sightings of leopards, baby hippos/giraffes and a wide variety of birds. Savannah Safaris made my trip a memorable one with absolutely no hiccups anywhere during my stay and Emmelyn was always a call away to help me when needed. Chitabe camp is a beautiful place located in the midst of the park. The staff is very friendly and the guide Tank was eager to see that I have good sightings Thank you Emmelyn, for a great experience
- JSBP201500Excellent birding outingOur guide, Martin, was so knowledgeable about the birds and took us to a few places to find as many types of birds as possible. He was fun to talk with and gave us lots of great information about the birds and Zambia.
- IngridM68400Chobe campA very interesting Tour with a lot of experiences. Many Animals and a good Guide. A good taxi Driver to the Border - very punctually!
- Barry W00Most ExcellantMy trip was just the best 1 day safari arranged through Savanah. They looked after us fantastically and we saw loads of animals and birds. I have travalled a great deal but my combination of DEvils Pool, 3 days rafting the Zambize and Botswana safari made this my best ever adventure. Lunch on our Safari was great. 4 of us went all English and we all tipped our guides, Sad others did not, the guides were 110% fantastic. Please if you go help the guides more by showing your appreciation . Barry WAldock, Bedfordshire, England.
- Bill A00Great experience with Savannah SouthernI had searched the internet for weeks looking for a morning birding safari on the Zambia side for our last morning of our 4 day Victoria Falls visit. We were also needing to get to the LVI airport that afternoon for our flight to JoBurg. When I emailed Savannah Southern our needs, they quickly responded, offering my wife and I a 6 hr birding safari and delivery to the airport at the end of the safari for a very reasonable price. We were met promptly at the Zambian border at 6:00 am by Chiinga, our birding guide and within minutes we were hunting birds. It turns out the Chiinga is the birding Guru for Victoria Falls and surrounding areas. He helped us find most of our target birds and some we weren’t even aware of in the area. We are so happy that we discovered Savannah Southern. Give them a chance to meet your safari and transportation needs in Vic. Falls!
- Michael L00Black-cheeked Lovebird SearchMy wife and I booked very experienced bird guide Chiinga for an expedition to the Machile area to search for the rare Zambian endemic Black-cheeked Lovebird. It was a long day (in our 4 wheel drive vehicle - absolutely essential even during the dry season): we met Chiinga at 04.30 and got back to Livingstone at 20.00 but it was very successful with great views of the lovebirds and enjoyable too. Chiinga was great company and clearly cares greatly about Zambia's birds and environment and is working with the villagers in the area where the lovebird lives to develop ecotourism there. So, if you are a keen birder and want to see one of Zambia's two endemic bird species, Chiinga and Savannah Southern Safaris is very highly recommended - in fact essential!
- 337paulap00Experience we will always rememberAfter seeing this walking safari advertised on TripAdvisor, I booked a a while in advance. It surpassed my expectations. It was a refreshing change to have a walking safari. We had a brilliant guide who passed on his knowledge of animals, birds, plants, dung etc. So memorable to see the rhinos up close including a couple of young ones, also our first sight of zebras, gnus and numerous other birds, animals which were also seen on the drive into the park. Savannah Southern Safaris also arranged transport from our hotel in Victoria Falls for us and this all worked out very smoothly. I would definitely recommend.
- yshargal00Spectaculat viewsI have visited Iguazu, Victoria Falls and Niagara Falls (rated in this order). Althought Iguazu is much more spectacular than Victoria, still Victoria Falls are well worth a visit. I had to travel from Israel to South Africa and made the detour by Zimbabwe just to see the falls and it was worthwhile. Then I crossed the border to Zambia and took the flight to South Africa. There are lots of contradictory opinions in the web on the requirement for yellow fever vacination when arriving from Zambia to South Africa. I took the trouble to go to a traveller's vaccination center and find out. There is no such requirement.
- adat59500Fine eco-tour operatorLocal friendly guides, may it be in the bush, in a village or - of course - to the Victoria Falls, it is worthwhile to go with one of them and be informed according to your whishes. Even in the low season - you are well served. The office is located in the National Art Gallery Livingstone, which is worth to be visited! It gives a good survey about modern Zambian Fine Arts works.
- Sheila T00Great day's birding around Livingstone with excellent guideHaving written a very long review which somehow disappeared, this is now a short version - so you will just have to get down to Livingstone and go birding with Chiinga if you want to have a really good day! Started with the rhino walk (for my non birding friend), which meant missing the more (bird) productive end of Mosi oa tunya park, but still found some few birds around the water hole. After seeing various wildlife (see my review of the rhino walk) we headed on to Munga Lodge for lunch and birding, where the second only day of rains of the new season prevented us seeing too much. Nice lunch. Then on to the sewage ponds and Chiinga persevered on the scope until he succeeded finding me an Allen's gallinule or two amongst the hundreds of purple swamp hens. A couple of confusing falcons shot passed at a distance, the only one seen well was a peregrine, but the others were not easily determined! More rain and a move on to the Nyimba hotel, where a second lifer of a half collared kingfisher was most welcome, and some stunning close views of Schalow's turaco noisily moving through the trees. Overall around a hundred species including a couple ID'd by call. Although I was familiar with many of the species Chiinga is an excellent guide and if I have the chance to go back to Livingstone or around I would not hesitate to call him again. Highly recommended, and you can't really get better than the first bird of the morning being a finfoot!
- SailGal9100Amazing Experience!Njekwa was an awesome tour coordinator! My friend and I found a tour package online and asked to add on a few things for the five days we spent in Livigstone. Njekwa was prompt and efficient at organizing the activities we did and we requested some last minute changes that he was so good about making for us! We saw Victoria Falls, Devil’s Pool, did a Chobe full day game drive, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, a walk with the lions and elephant ride, and we had a town and community tour of Livingstone! It was so fun! I highly recommend using Savannah Southern Safaris!
- misssindane00DelightfulLively place, filled with so much warmth and great hospitality. I work on radio so I cherish Peaceful moments that allow me to meditate and connect with myself. I mean I can't pour from an empty cup right? so yeaah I love places that are nature friendly
- Garth M00Rhinos!We had a very knowledgeable guide and an effective tracker. We found the rhinos in less than 15 minutes!
- Peter W00great guide, uncomfortable rideOur guide, Chiwele Mweete, was fantastic. He has incredible knowledge about all the animals, birds, plants, insects and the ecology of their interactions, as well as traditional human uses and folklore. He is enthusiastic and personable and was my favorite guide of all we encountered in two weeks of safari at different camps in three countries. The one big downside of our experience was a 45 minute pre-sunrise ride in an open vehicle in sub 10 degree (C) / sub 50 (F) air. We were chilled to the bone by the time we arrived for our walk.

We were a group of 5 that got a great guided walk in the national park. Our guide showed us plants, trees, animal tracks, birds along the way. We saw zebras, giraffes, warthog etc and the grand finale was the white rhinos. Friendly and safe. All in all highly recommended!

Have done this place twice in July 2018 and May 2019 and i total loved the experience.. But off course the Safari Ride in July was better than May 2019 one. Should do this one. Saw some White Rhino too.

This was a unique way to see the wildlife......walking in the bush with our informative guide Chiwele and a park ranger. I was thinking going into it, that the chances were slim that we would see much on a short walk, but I was wrong. We saw 3 giraffes, a herd of wildebeests, several wart hogs, and got to see the rhinos as well. On the drive out we came across the same giraffes we had seen on the walk, and got some great video of them running across at full speed.

This company provided a very knowledgeable guide-Zinga? We walked slowly through the Victoria Falls Park and he pointed out flora and fauna as well as taking us all along the edges of the Falls. We got great photos. Warning- even though we were given heavy ponchos we got thoroughly soaked- so wear waterproof clothing and put valuables and cell phones in plastic bags.

I am a frequent traveler to Africa and have spent months of time in the bush and exploring southern Africa's cities. Livingstone was new to me and my friends, so we figured we would do some guided tours to get the feel of the place. I searched and searched to find a reasonably priced provider with decent reviews and fell upon Savannah Southern Safaris. I'm sure glad I did. Here's how it all went down...
I sent them an e-mail detailing the interests and abilities of our small group (6 of us). Nina Siavwapa responded within 24-hours with a list of proposed activities, their prices, and a timeline which met all of our requested accommodations (no super long hikes/walks, a balance of scenery, arts, and wildlife, provision of a knowledgeable local guide, and a pace befitting a relaxing vacation). We e-mailed back and forth about some minor adjustments and then I was sent an electronic invoice by which I paid a 50% deposit. She also provided advice about requesting an electronic Kaza visa (recommended for anyone visiting the Zambia/Zimbabwe/Namibia/Botswana 4-corners region via day trips from Zambia - it's $50 and a painless application process once you figure out Zambia immigration's web site). Nina contacted me again a few days prior to departure and advised me that my final payment was about to be charged and then we were all set. All major credit cards were accepted and a receipt was provided.
Our guides, Chinga and Evans, met us at the airport with genuine warmth and provided transport to our hotel (Protea Livingstone). They were happy to stop at an ATM along the way, help us figure out the local currency, and make arrangements for super. We dropped our bags, relaxed for an hour or two and then began our exploration of Livingstone with the Arts and Artisans tour. Two art professor friends were traveling with us and while we all had a blast, they were simply over the moon. We visited Pure Skills Zambia where a local couple is training local metalworkers and artists such that they can create and market their wares, the National Gallery of Art, and a private artists studio. Everyone was extremely nice, happy to answer questions, show off techniques, talk about their experiences as artists, and so much more. Of course there was splendid artwork to be bought and we found some lovely pieces to bring home.
We set off for Chobe National Park in Botswana the next morning where we would spend the first half of the day on the Chobe River and the second half doing a vehicle safari. Our captain, self-named "Captain", had a splendidly dry sense of humor and a vast knowledge of local flora and fauna that he we proud to share with us. He was someone who truly enjoyed his work and did so with admirable professionalism. Safety was paramount and adequate instructions were provided at the start of the tour. As for the sights, they were awesome: cape buffalo, puku, more elephants than could be counted, Nile crocodiles, and a plethora of birds were on tap. The land portion of the trip was expertly guided as well and generally followed the path of the river cruise, but along the shoreline. This provided an entirely different experience, but was every bit as wonderful. If you want to see elephants, the Chobe River is the place to go - we saw well over a thousand in their natural habitat doing everything an elephant does: bulls fighting it out, adults and babies rolling in mud, families communicating with trumpets and grumbles, drinking, feeding, and more. A great time indeed.
We started our third day with a walking safari of Mosi-au-Tunya National Park in Zambia. I was worried that this would be a slog through tick infested hinterlands in infernal heat, but was pleasantly surprised otherwise. We picked up a game warden who directed us to a place where he had last seen rhinos and began a leisurely amble through scrubland with intermittent tree cover and medium grasses. The walk was over primarily flat terrain and it was easy going, even for my out of shape self. Chinga, our guide from Savannah Southern, knew every plant, bird, animal, and bug to be seen. I hold advanced degrees in biology and there wasn't a thing he didn't know - he spoke to me just as easily and technically as a professional colleague but using language and way that everyone in our party understood. Precious few have this gift and he uses it well. Safety instructions were given and then we were off for our stroll. After about 45 minutes of exploring, we found a mother rhino and her 2-year old calf.
My expectation at seeing rhino on a walking safari is that they would be somewhat distant. I about feinted when the warden motioned for us to be silent and directed us around a bush - out lumbered a rhino less than 25 feet away. He pointed at us and showed us where to move as the the rhinos grazed away and Chinga provided a narrative master class about the white rhino. Simply the most remarkable experience I've had in Africa. See the photos and judge for yourself.
We moved on after staying with the rhinos for about 30 minutes and glimpsed Cape buffalo - gave them a wide berth, more birds than I can count, and spotted a giraffe and a zebra. We ended the walk with muffins and juice by the Zambezi River before heading back to the hotel for a break.
Our last activity was a tour of Victoria Falls. They were near peak capacity and thundered away as advertised. Chinga once again lead the charge and a fantastic time was had by all - their majesty is simply too great to describe. Be prepared to get wet and do some walking as they are almost a mile wide and it can get quite hot - at least during out March visit.
I must also remark upon Evans, our driver. There isn't a nicer guy on the planet. He trained and worked as an air traffic controller for a while before coming home to care for his family. He's simply unflappable and went the extra mile to provide us transport to/from dinner, wait patiently with the vehicle and watch over our belongings while we were out with Chinga, and drive us carefully and safely to our destinations. He was prompt, professional, and as courteous as they come.
Simply an A+ job and our hats off to Chinga and Evan.

In early March, we scheduled 3 activities with Savannah Southern Safaris: two half-day bird watching walks, and a half-day nature walk into Mosi-oa-Tunya with the possibility of seeing white rhinos (which we did - take the afternoon walk, since they know where the rhinos are from the morning!). Our guide, Chiinga, was perhaps the best guide we had during our 3 weeks in Africa. What made him so special was a deep passion for nature that went beyond his job - this guy is for real. He loves birds with his heart, and loves sharing and showing. He was funny, fun, and possesses an unusual balance of being relaxed yet intensely engaged with the wildlife. As a birdwatcher, I felt it was more like being out in the field with an expert friend than being on a guided activity. If you go birding with Chiinga, DO NOT MISS the Livingstone sewage treatment ponds. Doesn't sound like much, but it's a twitcher's paradise with species I never saw anywhere else. The only reason Savannah Southern doesn't get 5 ***** is the difficulty paying for the trip - their credit card reader doesn't work well, and we left Africa owing them $$ which we are still trying to figure out how to pay. You may need to pay cash for your trip. In our experience, it is well worth the effort.

We really enjoyed this nature walk. The guide was knowledgeable and we loved the feeling of being the only ones in the park as it was early. We saw birds, antelope and Giraffe with the highlight being the rhinos.

We booked this nature walk to see the rhinos, as there are sadly none in most of the other Zambian National Parks. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgable as well as being incredibly eagle-eyed. We saw wildebeest, zebra, impala, warthogs, plenty of birds and (most importantly) the rhinos. We saw six rhinos in total, including a calf that was only 2 months old. Being on foot was definitely more exciting than a game drive and allowed us to feel very up close and personal with the animals. The only downside is that the walking portion was less than 2hrs when we were told it would be 2-3hrs. Even after seeing the rhinos, it would have been nice to continue walking for a bit longer. All-in-all a good afternoon trip and would recommend to any nature lover.

We booked 2 days of tours with this company, and we were completely satisfied. Here are some things that we would have liked to know ahead of time to help future travelers:
We received a pick-up from the airport - very convenient! - and went straight to the Arts/Artisans tour. I expected this would be more traditional crafts, but it was focused on up-and-coming artists. That was great too! We visited a metal and glass artists studio using found materials, as well as a leather workshop (where leather is sewn into bags) and the National Art Gallery (which is in a fascinatingly remote setting). Everything is for sale at both locations.
After, we did the Livingstone Town Tour. Our guide for this day, Chinga (sp?), was extremely knowledgeable. Zambia has a relatively short history as does what you will see on the town tour. If you tell the guide what you are specifically interested in, he can customize his comments for you. We did not visit any businesses on this tour. These 2 tours took about 4 hours.
The next day, we did the walking safari. You should know that additional people may join your tour, and that will not change the price to you. We had asked to join an already-booked safari in order to moderate the price. In the end, additional people were added to our safari, and we still paid quite a bit ($130 for the day each). So this is certainly not cheap. You will ride to pick up the armed guard and then head to the park, where you will park off of a dirt road and go for a walk through the scrub. You can choose a nature walk (which includes comments on the plants, animal signs like tracks and droppings, and birds) and then hopefully find the rhinos. Other groups signed up just to try and see the rhinos, so you could clarify this if that was ideal for you.
After this, we had signed up for the falls tour but given our misunderstanding about what we would see on the artisan tour, we opted to switch to a Village Tour where many of the crafts sold in curios are made. The timing of this day was a bit confusing - I had understood it went from 6:30 to 14:30 but then we were told we would be picked back up at 14:30. However, the guides discussed with us, and we agreed to go straight to the village. There, a local resident took us on a tour. The only thing I liked but didn't was going into the schoolhouse. You could ask to skip this - I felt bad interrupting the childrens' class. Then we stopped at the curio marked to shop. The thing that disappointed me is that we didn't actually see anyone making any of the crafts. I would ask the local guide about that. I trust that the crafts are made there but hard not to question a bit when you see the same curios in all shops, airport, etc.
Our guide on the second day was Chwela, and he was also wonderful, as was our armed guard who knew a lot about the wildlife and area.
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this company! Add a boat safari from another company, and you have a perfect trip to the VF area! Also note - for us, it was easier to see the falls on our own - there was no need for a guide for that - but other (older adults) may prefer a guide, to ensure they are comfortable.
Having gone on a week-long safari before this we were grateful to have a chance to step outside of a vehicle, under the protection of a ranger. The walking tour lasted less than two hours, but it was still worth it to walk among the vegetation with our knowledgeable guide to see not only the beloved rhinos and other animals, but also the subtler bits of nature such as footprints, plants (including those with medicinal properties), and dung!

I am a solo traveler and I see that you require two bookings. Is it possible to inquire the day before to see if other travelers have signed up as well?

Hello, I will be staying in Livingstone and I would love to join one of your tours. Unfortunately, I am travelling alone. Would it be possible to book it anyway (and maybe join some departure/group within Livingstone?
Thank you very much for your answer,
