About
The My Son sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dedicated to the worship of the god Shiva and built between the 4th and the 14th century AD by the kings of Champa. The site features many beautiful stone sculptures, temples and towers, surrounded by exotic tropical jungle. My Son was damaged during Vietnam’s tumultuous past and lay neglected for a long time. It was ‘rediscovered’ and renovated by the French in 1898, then used as a hiding place by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, when they mistakenly thought their American enemy would not bomb a holy site. Despite the destruction that ensued, the majority of the central complex managed to survive and parts have now been rebuilt.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- yvonnesL7908LW0 contributionsA MUST SEE locationThe older section of the city is a moated, walled citadel surrounded by eleven stone gates. This palace is somewhat like the Forbidden City in Beijing China but in no way as crowded with tourists (especially those pushing and yelling CHINESE tourists). This wall enclosed Royal Compound is Massive at 3 X 3 Miles (NOT exaggerating), thus much bigger than the Forbidden City in Beijing China. Hue became the capital city of a reunified Vietnam from 1802 until 1945 under the reign of the Nguyễn dynasty, where the last emperor turned over all political control to Ho Chie Min at the end of the American war. We observed the damage and rebuilding of the citadel’s grounds following the Viet Cong Tet Offensive. THIS IS A MUST SEE location for anyone visiting Vietnam, but make sure you come here with a guide, as just roaming around the grounds on your own, you will NOT relate well to all the history here. There is a massive water Moat around the 3X3 mile complex, and within its design was to be able to fend off invaders, and especially invaders at the time that had the ultimate weapon = Elephants!!!!Written July 1, 2024
- merryheartsg0 contributionsPicturesque old townBeautiful old town with a lot of restaurants, bars & shops along the river bank. It is so delightful & picturesque at night when all the lanterns are lit up all over the old town. It is a must do for anyone staying over at Hoi An. There is a night market here selling all kinds of food, souvenirs, bags & clothes. One thing to note is that bargaining is necessary & one should not feel compelled to buy. One should only buy when you think the final price is what you are willing to pay for the item.Written December 14, 2023

- alexng170 contributionsExcellent tour guide Mr LinhWe joined this tour group thru Jacky travel. The tour guide, Mr Linh , from Ninh bing excursion was humorous. We were seated in a 34 seater bus. We left for Ha Long Bay (HLB) at 9am as he has to fetch the tourists from diff hotels b4 we depart. Throughout the journey, he was telling us the history of HLB. As the journey is long, As and when he would crack some jokes. Quite a knowledgeable guy, as he shared his insight on the nearby property at HLB. A gem for his company!Written November 28, 2022
