The Sema ceremony represents the mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through love and his search for truth and perfection. It is believed that once man has returned from his spiritual journey, he can love and be of service to all creatures surrounding him. Tonight, you have the opportunity to experience an authentic Pamukkale ceremony and witness an ancient Turkish ritual.
You will be collected from your accommodation in Pamukkale and transported by luxury air-conditioned transport to the Dervish house. These abodes were built when trade across Turkey in medieval Seljuk times was dependent on camel trains. The buildings provided accommodation for the merchants and stabling for their animals. Today these ancient structures are the site of The Sema.
The ceremony lasts for one hour and during this time your friendly and professional English-speaking guide will talk you through the ceremony and introduce you to Serbet, a traditional religious libation

Initially our departure was scheduled in the second trip after sunrise but he managed to reschedule to the 1st early departure, and also agreed to drop us off at a different location from pick-up point so that we could meet up with our tour group. The driver was helpful - contacted my tour guide to make sure we're able to catch up with them at the correct spot. The pilot Mr Blunte has more than 20yrs experiences. He refused to let me board the bus even though I had an e-ticket, and he also refused to load my bag. From what I understand, he was mad that I did not speak Turkish and was American. I came to Turkey to visit my elderly father and had a beautiful time until this incident. The good:
The show is very interesting, they receive you with a write down about the ceremony and it’s meaning. The venue is big enough and the staff was very nice, they picked us up on time at the hotel.
What could improve:
The show is done with neon lights that soon get very tired on the eyes, would be better with warm light. The facilities (like restrooms) could also improve.
Overall is a nice insight of the culture

My wife was very keen to do this but I was less than enthusiastic...but it was a wonderful experience, seemingly enjoyed by all. I liked the fact it was not a 'show' but more of an insight.
We paid 25 euros which felt to be too much as the hotel pick up was just a three minute walk.

It is a spectacular place to see thanks to the natural beauty. The town is beautiful, it is highly recommended to go up to the panoramic point of the town even if you have to pay a very small fee, especially recommended at sunset. I wasn't crazy about the open-air museum on the outskirts of the city. Hot air ballooning is definitely an experience worth doing. However, the costs can be very high, if you want to save money look for those that fly not to Goreme but to the nearby valleys. Maybe it is a little less spectacular but I paid a third.

The process of buying the tickets were smooth and easy. The ceremony was really nice. I wonder how the dancers don't feel dizzy after whirling for so long and able to gain their composure for each salute.
